People can be divided by being cat lovers or dog lovers.

And while we love our pets with all our hearts, can the same be said for them?

A new study has found which species loves their owners more, and the findings are pretty interesting.

The study was conducted as part of the BBC Two show Cats V. Dogs, and saw researchers measure the amount of oxytocin – a.k.a. the love hormone – in the two animals when they interacted with their owners.

Dr Paul Zak, who led the research measured the oxytocin levels ten minutes before a play session, and then again immediately afterwards.

"We have pretty good evidence that dogs actually love their humans. A couple of small-scale studies have shown that when owners interact with their dogs, the human and their dog appear to release oxytocin," Dr Paul said.

"It’s one of the chemical measures of love in mammals. Humans produce the hormone in our brains when we care about someone.

"For example, when we see our spouse or child the levels in our bloodstream typically rise by 40-60 per cent.”

And while it has been proven that dogs have immense affection for us, can the same be said for cats?

Well, the research found that oxytocin levels in dogs increased by an average of 57.2 per cent after playing with their owners, and the average increase in cats rose by… erm,12 per cent.

“It shows these dogs really care about their owners. It was also a nice surprise to discover that cats produce any at all. At least some of the time, cats seem to bond with their owners."

Well, at least cat levels rose a little bit…

Fancy increasing your fitness levels while fighting against plastic waste pollution?

Then do we have good news for you.

For those conscious about getting their steps in and saving the environment, plogging is the upcoming exercise trend taking Europe by storm.

Originating in Sweden, the concept involves going jogging and pickup up and plastic-based litter you see along the way, and then disposing of them resposibly.

Bonus points if you find a plastic shopping bag on your run and fill that up on your route.

Plogging is a combination of two words – jogging and the Swedish 'plocka upp', meaning 'pick up.'

A post shared by Plogging Germany (@plogginggermany) on

'Essentially plogging encourages people to pick up rubbish whilst out walking/jogging/running or walking their dogs,' creator of the Plogging Ireland Facebook page Steven Moody penned in one of the pages' first posts.

The page has garnered over 300 followers since it was started.

'As a runner this really appeals to me as I am lucky to have some stunning scenery on my doorstep but it saddens me to see it strewn with litter – so rather than be disheartened – I choose to be part of the solution.'

A post shared by Plogging Poland (@ploggingpoland) on

'On your next walk/jog/run … join me and pick up a couple of pieces of rubbish and bin them on the way … every little counts and you get the benefit of exercise and knowing you are doing something good for the environment – who is with me?'

According to the page, if 200 people 'plogged' every day, the action would take 62,000 pieces of plastic off Irish roads in a year.

Excuse us, we have a litter picker to source…

During her time in the Love Island villa, Megan Barton-Hanson was judged for many things – her attitude to romance, her choice to have plastic surgery and her on-point style were just a few.

However, nothing drew more judgement than the revelation that she had once worked as a stripper and the fact that she had sex in the Love Island house on camera – two things which speak to the discrimination women who enjoy their sexuality still face.

Since exiting the villa, Megan has become a vocal spokesperson for gender equality and personal sexual empowerment – championing women to embrace their power and be unashamedly themselves.

'We are no different than men. Why should women get penalised for saying they like to have sex?' she told SHEmazing, who chatted to Megan about her new role as an ambassador for PrettyLittleThing – a role that is exceptionally fitting, with Megan and the brand's attitudes to self-empowerment and individualism harmonising perfectly.

'Why if you dress in a certain way you get penalised? Why if you're in a certain industry you get put down for that? I don't see why for men, it's applauded and they're praised for going out and getting a load of girls and have sex on TV, but if you're a girl, it's like everyone is in shock.'

'Especially the fact that I slept with not one but two guys on Love Island, people can't get over it, it was groundbreaking. But I don't see why its like that Adam (Collard) did exactly the same and he didn't get half the stick I did for it. '

When discussing her female role models in this space, the model cited vocal women like Amy Schumer and Amber Rose – who faced serious slut shaming at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Kanye West when he said ' I had to take 30 showers before I got with Kim,' following his relationship with Amber – literally implying that she was dirty.

'I think its time to move on and I think the more people like me who are in the public eye to say that there is nothing wrong with it, people like Amber Rose and Amy Schumer, the more girls will be open about it and honest, I think the more accepted it will be,' Megan said.

'I think it's really old fashioned to look at it as women need to be virginal.'

A post shared by Megan Barton-Hanson (@meganbartonhanson_) on

Megan revealed that she receives countless messages from women and girls who are facing bullying based on sexuality and slut shaming in their personal lives.

'Loads of girls DM me about similar things. Obviously it hurts when someone is negative towards you – it's taken me years to just own it and say 'do you know what, there's nothing I can do, this is just me and why should I feel bad that I have a high sex drive.'

'Im not ashamed of it, I'm not ashamed that I was a stripper. The first thing is, you have to accept yourself amd not care what anyone else says.'

Megan has always been open about her journey to self acceptance – despite being an exceptionally confident and empowering woman, she faced hardships like anyone else.

'It was difficult. My whole school life I was put down, bullied, for having different boyfriends and stuff like that, and then in my area I started dancing and everyone was like 'oh my God, I can't believe Megan's done that.'

'It was a journey and it wasn't easy but I think with age you just grow in confidence and learn to accept yourself.'

When it comes to personal style, Megan is known for her on-trend medley of high glam and street wear – with feminist slogan t-shirts being mixed and matched with curve-skimming dresses and edgy jumpsuits.

Her advice to anyone who wants to be more experimental with their personal style? 'I think you shouldn't take fashion so seriously, dress how YOU want to dress, don't worry about what other people are saying as long as you're happy.'

'I think people just take it too seriously, especially with social media, there are always pictures of what you have worn to this event and that (event), but it doesn't need to be so serious,'

'If one day you want to war a short body-con dress, do that if the next day you want to dress in street style like baggy combat trousers, do that,' she continued.

'Just embrace your body, everyone has got different shapes and sizes so just do you.'

A post shared by Megan Barton-Hanson (@meganbartonhanson_) on

The Love Island stars get a bit of slack for being fairly prolific with the sponsored Instagram posts – but Megan's social media is noticeably devoid of sponsorships.

Megan revealed that this was a choice of hers, as she didn't want to champion every brand which came her way as a gesture of authenticity to her audience.

'I felt like I had a responsibility, because a lot of people who watch Love Island are younger girls and they don't have loads of money, so I didn't want to put my name to everything just for the sake of me getting paid and advertising things I didn't believe in.'

'PrettyLittleThing really is a brand that I really do believe in, and I love the fact that they cater for all different shapes and sizes, it's affordable, it's on trend, and it's always been a brand I've loved.'

Clarins are launching a new brand within their current esteemed skincare label – My Clarins.

The new brand is geared towards young skin, focusing on the issues teens and millennials face with targeted skincare – however, as well as aiming to create innovative skincare that works, the new brand is also environmentally friendly in every way.

First up, the 9-item line wont be sold in China, a market which unfortunately still requires animal testing on all beauty products that are sold there, so My Clarins can be considered totally cruelty free. With China being such a huge and lucrative market, it's a big gesture for a brand to eschew Chinese consumers entirely to be able to ensure there is no harm done to the other species we share our planet with.

A post shared by MyClarins (@myclarins) on

It's also 100% vegan – so literally no animals were harmed in the making of this product and those who avoid all animal by-products can use it safely, in the knowledge that their skin wont be absorbing any derivatives from the animal kingdom.

All nine of the products are presented in packaging made from recycled materials, and all pots, boxes and tubes are 100% recyclable, so once you're finished with them they can be made into something new.

We went along to the launch of the range this week, hosted in The Alex hotel, to have a proper look and play around with the collection. The recycled packaging looks gorge, in simplified, minimal white bottles and boxes with a botanical theme (very Instagram).

My Clarins aims to encourage good skin habits. Likening it to our diets, we as a generation like to know exactly what we are eating, with an emphasis on whole foods and healthy ingredients – so why should skincare be any different?

Your skin runs similarly to you, in that it needs a balanced diet, of sorts.

The line, which includes cleansing milks, moisturisers, a targeted spot treatment and a beauty mist, has 88% natural ingredients, ranging from coconut water to fig and goji berries.

It runs on an 'In & Out' complex, which encourages the cells to absorb good elements and expel toxins and contestants. The vegetal complex provides the skin with everything ‘good’ (vitamins, minerals and trace elements) and removes the ‘bad’ (pollutants and impurities).

There are no parabens, phthalates or sulfates, so those with sensitive skin should be good to go.

Our top picks from the range? First up we have to mention the Re-Move Micellar Milk. Micellar has lost it's good reputation in recent years, with Micellar oils leaving residue on the skin that leads to break outs, and plain Micellar water being seen to just move dirt and oils around the skin rather than lifting them off.

The Re-Move Micellar cleansing milk absorbs dirt and grime and makeup, allowing them to be totally removed with a hot cloth or cleansing pad.

The range has two moisturisers, each targeted to a specific skin type, and one night mask – The My Clarins Re-Charge Relaxing Night Mask.

Ideal for when you want to look like you got your 8 hours when you certainly didn't, the mask contains acerola seed, fig and huang qi extracts to detox and hydrate (and it smells gorge).

Lastly, the Re-Fresh Hydrating Beauty Mist. Beauty mists are all the rage, and a cornerstone of a millennial skincare routine. Rather than opting for just rosewater or just cucumber, this all encompassing beauty mist brings together a medley of natural ingredients to replenish skin.

The combo of coconut, fig, alpenrose and acerola allow the skin to become completely oxegenated and hydrated.

The line retails at €17 to €27 and is available in pharmacies and stores nationwide, as well as online.

NOW TV has revealed the Irish public's faves for this Sunday's Academy Awards, and some of them just might surprise you.

While many are speculating that Green Book or Bohemian Rhapsody will take the gong, Ireland's top choice for the Best Picture Award is A Star Is Born, featuring Lady Gaga and directed by and starring Bradley Cooper.

Black Panther is also a dark horse in the category, being the first superhero movie to ever be nominated for the coveted prize.

In terms of Irish talent, 44 percent of the nation's participants believe that Saoirse Ronan was robbed of a Best Actress Oscar nod (which would be her FOURTH nomination) for Mary, Queen of Scots.

The starred in the film alongside Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth, and many believe her amazing performance deserved the nomination. Her previous category nods include roles in Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Atonement.

20 percent of survery participants said that they will be following the results and outcome on social media, and we suspect many of us will be gaggin' to see the gorgeous couture being donned.

Timothée Chalamet is another reason to watch…Just saying…

Unsurprisingly, Ireland's choice for Oscar host is the white wine-sipping legend that is Graham Norton. The acerbic wit would be pure gas at the Hollywood event, if his hilarious Eurovision content is anything to go by.

The public voted 64 percent in his favour as host. NOW TV also found that 47 percent of Irish people will be watching the 91st Academy Awards on social media, a highlights reel or the news.

25 percent of Irish people will wait until the next morning to get the Oscars gossip, rather than the 20 percent who plan to keep updated as the ceremony happens.

For any Oscars enthusiasts, watching the Academy Awards is easier than ever. NOW TV also calculated Ireland's favourite or most memorable Oscar moments, and they're still scandalous as ever.

The La La Land Best Picture error in 2017 topped the poll as the most memorable Oscar moment, with more than one-third of respondents recalling the horrendous moment that the film was called out as Best Film by MISTAKE, stealing Moonlight's thunder.

Ellen DeGeneres' star-studded selfie was next in line, taking 22 percent of the Irish public's vote.

In terms of red carpet fashion highlights, 26 percent of participants chose Cher's 1986 bare stomach look with a feathered headpiece as the biggest fashion fail. Bjork's 2001 swan dress with egg laying motion was also a high contender in the faux pas category.

Sacha Baron Cohen appearing as Admiral General Aladeen took 21 percent of the fashion fail vote, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s braless goth look from 2002 had 19 percent of the vote.

Kevin Hart stepped down as Academy Awards host in January after homophobic tweets were revealed and he failed to apologise this year for them, leaving the 2019 Oscars hostless. It's a shame Graham Norton wasn't asked…

Ellen DeGeneres topped the polls as the most favourable Oscar's host, taking 29 percent of the participants' favourite vote, and Whoopi Goldberg came second with 20 percent. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin had 14 percent of the vote as a comedic duo.

31 percent of Irish people want A Star Is Born to sweep the ceremony, and hope for Gaga to win Best Actress (39 percent) and Bradley Cooper as Best Actor (32 percent). They do have outrageously great chemistry… and he should have gotten the Best Director nod too. I stand by that,

NOW TV have given us the goss, and you can watch the ceremony through their website here.

Someone pick us up off the cold, hard ground, because we are CONFUSED as hell after hearing the latest conspiracy theory regarding the Kardashians.

The famous family are absolutely embroiled in the drama (where else would they be?) after Tristan Thompson allegedly cheated on Khloe with Jordyn Woods, AKA Kylie Jenner's bestie.

Tristan is the father of Khloe's daughter, True Thompson, and has been caught up in his fair share of infidelity scandals himself, having cheated on Khloe while she was pregnant multiple times. Classy.

Brace yourselves for this next part, because the Konspiracy of Khloe Kardashian is about to let a Kat out of the bag. It's major.

Fans are now speculating that Khloe created Jordyn Woods as a "honey trap" for Tristan, knowing he would cheat and create yet another scandal. All for the next season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Yup, people genuinely think the family are orchestrating this chaos. Kris Jenner specifically, which we TOTALLY believe. The momager is iconic, and can spin drama from legit nothing at all.

One Twitter user wrote; "This Khloe Kardashian/Tristan/Jordyn drama screams honey trap and a season 17 story line." We have to agree, the timing is perfect.

The family are positively gifted at staying relevant. Many presume that the only reason Khloe took Tristan back after he cheated was for this precise reason; more drama.

Imagine planting your younger sister's 21-year-old BFF (who lives in her mansion for free) as a honey trap for your love rat boyfriend…Imagine…

Another user wrote; "The man has form, until now she's been a good friend to Kylie. I sense a set up. Tristan failed & he's out." It was all a major Tristan Test, and predictably the lad failed.

He cheated on his ex-girlfriend, who was also pregnant, with Khloe. It's not that surprising he can't change his cheater ways, is it?

Others think that Jordyn herself was in on the entire plan with the Kardashians, which is craziness at it's finest.

"Khloe Kardashian and Jordyn Woods planned this together so Khloe would have a good reason to dump Tristan – A Conspiracy," one eagle-eyed fan tweeted. We're SO here for these thoughts.

Another, even wilder, theory ponders the thought that Khloe and TRISTAN HIMSELF were in on the gag together;

"Conspiracy: Tristan Thompson didn’t really cheat on Khloe Kardashian, they made the whole thing up to make more money like Beyoncé and Jay-Z did in 2018."

This gal is referencing Beyoncé's iconic Lemonade album, which was a direct response to Jay-Z's cheating scandal with "Becky with the good hair." The general public were enthralled.

A post shared by HEIR JORDYN (@jordynwoods) on

Jordyn Woods has reportedly moved out of Kylie Jenner's home, which is probably for the best.

Khloe has also responded by posting a series of cryptic tweets about pain and betrayal, but hasn't commented herself. Kim also slammed trolls who criticised Khloe for making a public appearance at the PrettyLittleThing event.

The scandal also came out days before Jordyn launched a new false eyelash range in Los Angeles, with the model saying the most underwhelming statement the world has ever heard.

Jordyn told the crowd; "Through everything that's been going on, you know it’s been real, and Eylure has been super real." Wow, this gal's an eloquent scholar.

What conspiracy theories about the scenario do you believe? We personally are fans of the Kris Jenner "the devil works hard…" one, but maybe the entire thing was truly just a disorganised mess.

One of Ireland's biggest taxi app, MyTaxi, is set to rebrand it's name to FREE NOW later this year.

The company, formerly known as Hailo, emailed it's customers today and informed them about the name change. The app changed it's name to MyTaxi back in 2017, spending €5 million on the large ad campaign.

In a statement sent to consumers, MyTaxi wrote;

“The most important thing to remember is that there will be no change to the mytaxi service and app. We’ll still have the same app, the same local team and the same 5-star drivers – just with a new name later this year.”

The company tweeted about the change; "We’ve exciting news  We’re joining a new mobility brand family. This means we’re getting a new name and look, and will be changing our name to FREE NOW later this year."

The change is apparently due to a merger between Daimler, it's majority shareholder, and BMW

SHARE NOW, REACH NOW, PARK NOW and CHARGE NOW are also a part of the “new brand family”, however these groups don't operate in Ireland as of yet.

Knowing what ingredients we are putting into our bodies is vital.

Salt and sugar might add delicious flavour to our foods, but often processed foods in particular are laden with them, leading us to go above our recommended daily intake regularly.

Lidl Ireland has today announced that over 850 of their own-brand products are currently being assessed for ways to reduce their salt and sugar intake.

The affordable supermarket brand have pledged to create a 20% reduction in added sugar as well as reducing salt levels by the year 2020.

In their sugar reductions, the brand will be focusing on reducing levels in items targeted to or enjoyed by children.

For salt, Lidl will focus on everyday meal items, including ready meals, soups, pizzas, crisps, cakes and meat products.

'The food and retail industry can make a positive contribution to the prevention of obesity, so it s important we work in partnership to achieve a reduction in the amount fat, salt and sugar in foods eaten regularly by consumers, said  Minister for Health Simon Harris, commending the move.

'I want to commend Lidl for this initiative to reduce the sugar and salt content of many of their own brand products to help create a healthier food environment.'

'This is something I hope others will replicate.'

The positive contribution to the nations' health will aim to fall in with the UK's Food Standards Agency targets for salt reductions.

The World Heath Organisation has found previously that the consumption of excess sugars can contribute to weight gain and obesity.

It's no secret – the Love Island couples are dropping like flies.

So much so that the only couple still going strong are the 2018 champions, Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham.

There has been three break ups this month – Megan and Wes, Josh and Kaz and Zara and Adam.

So WTF is going on?

Well, who would know better than Caroline Flack aka host of the ITV show?

On the red carpet at the BRIT awards she told Cosmopolitan UK why she thinks these couples aren't feeling the love anymore.

She said, ''It's break-up season. You have the three month itch, then the seven month itch. There we go!"

So it has nothing to do with Love Island itself and more just a case regular relationship stuff.

She was shocked by one split though, more so then the others.

She said, ''I was surprised about Zara and Adam, I'm secretly hoping they're going to get back together.''

Montana Brown, contestant on the 2017 series, also gave her opinion a sto why the couples are calling it a day.

She said, ''They’re all really young and at the start of their career. It’s really hard to grow with somebody when you’re in the limelight dealing with all this extra attention.''

She continued, ''You develop trust issues as soon as you leave Love Island and get this automatic anxiety, almost, because you’re not used to it. You’re in such a bubble when you’re there, you don’t realise how big the show is then suddenly it’s all photos, you’ve got to be media trained and watch what you say all the time, who you’re with and watch where you’re going.''

Sounds like a nightmare to us – fair play to those that stand the test of time – wonder will Dani and Jack stick it out?

Fans absolutely lost their damn minds while watching Netflix' horror-drama The Haunting of Hill House, so it's no surprise that it was renewed for season two.

The first season was based on the 1959 Shirley Jackson novel, but the next series will feature an all-new cast and story.

Titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy will base the next chapter on Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw, a classic horror novella centring on a governess and two sibling children.

The first season of the show boasted a massively talented cast of Henry Thomas, Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, as well as an emotionally-charged story.

Set in a dilapidated mansion saturated with ghosts, the supernatural soon takes hold of the young family who live there and haunts them into adulthood, showing flashbacks and terrifying scenes.

The show achieve its whopping 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience gripped entirely by the family drama paired with horror, a relatively new idea.

Stephen King, the most famous horror author on the planet, even sang the work's praise on Twitter;

The Haunting of Hill House, revised and remodelled by Mike Flanagan… I don’t usually care for this kind of revisionism, but this is great. Close to a work of genius, really."

“I think Shirley Jackson would approve, but who knows for sure," he wrote, giving the compliment of a lifetime to Mike Flanagan.

Vice president of original content at Netflix, Cindy Holland, commented on season two's announcement:

“Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are masterful at creating authentically frightening stories that leave audiences on the edge of their seats, but unable to look away.”

“We’re excited to continue our partnership with them on The Haunting series and future projects to come.”

Netflix has embarked on a multi-year deal with Flanagan and Macy,Variety reports, which will see both men produce new TV projects for the streaming giant exclusively .

No release date for The Haunting of Bly Manor has been announced yet, but we already know we won't be able to sleep at night…

It's expected to land in our Netflix accounts sometime in 2020. The whispering voice in the teaser mentions the garden beyond… and the “great emptiness”. We're sh*tting ourselves.
