It really is the year of nostalgia; Between the Spice Girls, Westlife and Carrie Bradshaw, it's clearly comeback o'clock.

News recently broke that one of the biggest legends of the early 2000s is making a musical return, with her sophomore album expecting to be released before the end of 2019.

That's right gals, it's only SAMANTHA MUMBA.

We've all got more than fond memories of tunes such as Gotta Tell You and Always Come Back To Your Love, and soon we'll be hearing brand new music from the versatile singer.

We sat down for a chat with the woman herself, and once our starstruck fever calmed down, we managed to ask her a few questions.

There have been whispers of musical comebacks for many years now, considering her first album Gotta Tell You was released back in 2000 when she was only sixteen-years-old.

While the rest of us were figuring out creative ways to abandon school for a few hours and day-dreaming of Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell, Samantha was making CHUNES.

So why choose now to release her long-awaited album number two? Samantha is a woman of many talents, trying her hand at Masterchef in 2017, as well as appearances in Dancing On Ice and on ITV's Loose Women.

“It’s been in the works for a couple of months, so for me I did Manchester Pride last summer, and I was so blown away by the response. As I was onstage I was literally like, why don’t I have any new music to perform? This is stupid, like it’s ridiculous. I’m one of those people who gets in their own way all the time. Even if I think of doing something, I’ll think of 20 reasons not to do it. I thought, ‘No, enough it enough’. I was afraid to do it again. The timing just feels good, and now I’m seeing that everyone is coming back, I thought, ‘What is going on?’ Hang on a second, I was coming back first!”

Needless to say, her fans are EXCITED.

Damn right she was. Samantha's popularity with a range of audiences and people of all ages has to be noted, but why do so many listeners seem to relate to her?

“That’s a great question, and I don’t really know the answer. It’s just one of those things, a nostalgia thing. I also think because I was so young when I started, a lot of people literally feel, and they have, like they’ve grown up with me. People have even stopped me in the street to say, ‘Oh hey, how are you?’ as if they know me. I’ve been around for a while, I think there’s that kind of connection where people have really gotten behind me, it’s like I’m a cousin of theirs. It’s that kind of thing, it’s brilliant.”

Samantha still returns home to Dublin fairly regularly, and her little daughter Sage calls it her home too. We wondered if she had stayed up to date on Ireland's current homelessness crisis?

“It’s scandalous, it’s absolutely shocking. That’s why I thought this Just Eat campaign was just such a no-brainer. I’d love if they could double what they did last year, which in itself was incredible. Even especially being home at the minute, and it’s so cold, you just think, ‘Oh my God’, it’s not right. There’s a lot of young kids that are homeless, and it’s heartbreaking. Being a mother now myself, it’s just awful. You never know what goes on in someone’s life, it can happen to anybody, you just never know what kind of bad things could come somebody’s way. It can happen to everybody, and everybody should chip in," she says.

She's partnered up with Just Eat this year for their annual National Takeaway Tuesday to raise funds for the Peter McVerry Trust, who do vital work for the homeless. To date, Just Eat customers have generated over €50,000 for the Peter McVerry Trust, enough to move five people out of homelessness and into better futures.

Samantha comments; "This takeaway campaign is perfect, because you can order food on a Tuesday, get a 10 percent discount and chip in 10 percent to 2019’s Just Eat charity of choice, the Peter McVerry Trust. So you’re doing something good."

Does she notice the homelessness which is also prevalent in Los Angeles too, while she's spending her down-time there?

“Again, who am I to talk about anything, but there are definite areas. Santa Monica area and Downtown area, what I find is that a lot of the problems there are mental health. These people should be in facilities, in LA for me I notice, it’s a lot more of that. Whereas here, it’s more people who are getting a bad run of things. It just seems to be different circumstances, I suppose," she emphasises.

Her daughter Sage was born in 2015, with her husband Torray Scales. We're immediately jealous of Sage, because she's already heard some of her mum's new material;

‘Nightmare before Christmas is her thing. We listen to that soundtrack, and I love it as well, so it’s great. Sometimes she said, ‘I wanna hear mummy’s songs’, she approves of the new songs, thankfully. She’s very sweet, but other times she’s like, ‘Ok, back to Disney’, she laughs.

“She says she lives in LA and lives in Dublin, she loves being home. She gets totally spoilt rotten at home. The back and forth is her norm, she doesn’t know any different.”

We couldn't let Samantha go without trying to get the dates for her new music to be released, it had to be done. For the good of mankind. Luckily, she was ready for the question;

“I was hoping to have a date already. I have to have it within the next two weeks, because I want my first release to be latest end of March, early April. So we’re working on it. I’d love to have two singles out by the summer, and the album definitely will be later on in the year, but I’m on it.”

One core difference between now and when Samantha started is, of course, the power of social media. She's aware of it as a tool, and this time it's going to connect her even more to her fans;

“That’s what I’m enjoying the most, there’s no random people telling me what I have to do, I’m fully in control of everything. That’s kind of the most exciting part for me. The people I’ve been working with in the States are so creative, they’re really pushing me out of my comfort zone.”

In terms of teasing some collaborations in the pipeline, she's revealed a song with MNEK has been created, and we are SO HERE for it. The artist is known for working with some of pop's biggest names, among them are Dua Lipa and Zara Larsson.

“MNEK I have done work with, yes, I adore him. He’s incredible, he’s so talented. I have done one song with him, and I have my core group of people to work with. I think he’ll actually be in LA again in another couple of weeks, so we’ll do another session there as well. I’d love to bring him in with my people, because I think they’d all mesh really well. I’m excited for what that will bring. He’s such a talent and a joy to work with.”

Is there anyone she's especially got her eye on, in terms of new female talent?

“I just discovered her and I’m obsessed, it’s Donna Missal from the US. She’s incredible, I love her."

Samantha is 36-years-old, and time has only given her even more glamour, wisdom and thick-skin for the tough music industry.

Her new album is set to encompass that sense of maturity;

My new music is pop R’N’B, it’s current to where I am, I’m a grown woman who’s lived a life. I have a lot of things to say. I’m just expressing them, and hopefully other women will relate to it."

Samantha is the newest 2019 mood; let her reign begin anew.

Serena Williams is well used to winning. After 23 Grand Slam trophies, you'd think she'd eventually take her eye off the ball, but you'd be wrong.

We're all familiar with her INCREDIBLE fashion sense, and cutting edge tennis court style. Her partnership with Nike has seen her expand the borders of fashion in women's sport.

If we cast our minds back, we can remember her controversially banned the Black Panther catsuit (the NECK):

She really ace'd that one, and it even helped her circulation after suffering from blood clots during the delivery of her ADORABLE baby daughter, Alexis Olympia.

After being ridiculously barred from wearing the "disrespectful" suit, an absurdly sexist rule, she traded it for a tutu and played the hell on.

Oh, and the tutu was designed by none other than Virgil Abloh, the newest talent making waves at Louis Vuitton.

Everyone was wondering what fashion gold Serena would bring to the Australian Open, where she's currently competing. Not to mention winning, as per. All she does is WIN.

She stunned crowds by wearing a turquoise romper that cleared our skin and filled our bank balance. It's iconique. She's doing God's work by spilling such tea all over the sexist tennis rules.

Officials to Serena: We're banning the catsuit.

Serena taking zero of their sh*t: I'm gonna alter it slightly and play on, mmkay? Cut the legs off:

Slay, Kween.

People are rightfully shook, there's even fishnet tights to go alongside it. The details, we can't even.

The tweets are clearly off the hook, with Serena once again being compared to a superhero. You know, because she is one.

Naturally, her supportive husband Alexis Ohanian Sr. tweeted his love of the romper:

In conclusion, Serena is straight up FIRE in the fashion world, and we don't deserve her.

I'm sure we've all told our parents how embarrassing we think they are, how they mortify us beyond the valley of shame for merely existing.

Normally most of the things they do genuinely aren't embarrassing, we're just being dramatic.

In this case, however: one Twitter user explained a genuinely unfortunate mishap which happened when her mother was selling a wardrobe… and it's HILARIOUS.

Sophie Eke captioned the image: "Nice one mum", with texts from a buyer who reportedly could see her poor mums' boobs in the mirror of the item up for sale.

The buyer texted Julie saying: "Hi Julie, I don't mean to sound rude but just thought I'd let you know as I noticed straight away… the photo you uploaded of the wardrobes, I'm unsure if its what I think but it seems that there are some boobs in the mirror!"

"Sorry just wanted to let you know xxx"

Thank God, her daughter didn't upload the full X-rated image, but the tweet has since gone viral. It has been retweeted over 28k times and has over 100k likes, our mums would MURDER us for this.

We wonder what Julie thinks of the whole thing?

We hope she finds it funny, otherwise she might be pretty damn mad (understandably) with her daughter for putting the tweet up about her in the first place.

It just goes to show, be careful what you put on the internet gals, and maybe check your photos for any nudity BEFORE you upload them?

Jamie Dornan has opened up about losing his mum Lorna to pancreatic cancer. The actor was a mere 16-years-old when his mum passed away.

He got honest about the impact it had on him in an interview with Press Association.

The Fall star was only 14-years-old when his mum was diagnosed with cancer. “I look back on that time and see it in a very blurry way. I was very young. Every kid at that age is naive. I felt like I was particularly young and naive at that time.”

His mum’s untimely death caused Jamie to grow up very quickly.

The actor admitted that the pain of losing a parent never leaves you. “It has an ever evolving effect on me, that loss, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”

The 36-year-old continued: “I feel like every single day it has an effect on me in ways which I am aware of and some ways I think I am not aware of.”

Jamie isn’t alone in his grief. He is aware of the millions of families who lose loved ones to cancer across the globe.

“Lots of people have lost people that are very dear to them at a young age. That’s the sad thing about this illness particularly, it seems to get people young, who often have very young families,” he said.

Jamie gushed about his mum and said she would have been thrilled with his success. The actor believes she would have loved the glamour of his career.

He added: “Hopefully there is some world where she has an awareness of it.”

The Leaving Cert holiday is a rite of passage for most Irish teenagers.

To celebrate school finishing forever, you head off with your mates to Santa Ponsa or Aya Napa for a week with no parents and no rules.

Or so Mick Molloy thought.

Mick's mum was one step ahead of the other parents who simply give you a lecture before you get on the plane.

She decided to set down a few rules of her own that her son could take abroad with him.

Mick, from Gorey, shared the list on Twitter and it is pure gold.

The orders include to ''stay away from dodgy tattoo parlours with dirty needles'', to ''avoid balconies completely'' and also to ''walk away from fights.''

Also notice that the ''use condoms'' rule had double stars next to it – Mammy Molloy isn't taking any chances!

Best of luck on your trip lads, but better luck with sticking to those rules.

Naming a baby is incredibly tough, something this mum-of-two knows about all too well.

In fact, Sophie Cachia’s daughter has been given three names since her birth… and Sophia is still not happy with her decision.

The Young Mummy blogger recently took to Instagram to share her baby naming woes, describing her experience as “one gigantic clusterf*ck of f*ckups.”

A post shared by Sophie Cachia (@sophiecachia_) on

Talking about her love of Audrey Hepburn, Sophie explains how growing up she was convinced she was going to name her future daughter after her idol.

“I even begged Jaryd (husband) in labour with Bobby to change our Valentina/Florence to Audrey at the last minute if a girl came out,” she wrote.

“Funnily enough, I had a girl and Audrey was never in the equation this time.”

But Betty was.

FACT: my entire life I loved Audrey. I had artwork & posters of her on my walls at home. I was ALWAYS convinced I was going to call my future daughter Audrey. I even begged Jaryd in labour with Bobby to change our Valentina/Florence to Audrey at the last minute if a girl came out. Funnily enough, I had a girl and Audrey was never in the equation this time. Betty was, then that was wrong. Missy lasted 48 hours, and then she ended Florence Margaret but Margaret was only supposed to be the middle name if she was called Betty, and Florence was always supposed to be Florence Gigi after Jaryd's sister. But I totally fucked the whole thing up and now my experience with naming a girl is one gigantic clusterfuck of fuckups. So now LEGALLY she's Florence Margaret but we call her Florence Gigi (ESPECIALLY now since she's her Aunty Gigi's mini-twin!!!) So yeah… basically I suck at naming girls.

A post shared by Sophie Cachia (@sophiecachia_) on

However, this name didn’t last very long, and soon Betty became Missy… but just for 48 hours.

“Betty was, then that was wrong. Missy lasted 48 hours, and then she ended Florence Margaret but Margaret was only supposed to be the middle name if she was called Betty, and Florence was always supposed to be Florence Gigi after Jaryd's sister.”

Confused? Us too.

Continuing, the mum wrote: “But I totally f*cked the whole thing up and now my experience with naming a girl is one gigantic clusterf*ck of f*ckups.

“So now LEGALLY she's Florence Margaret but we call her Florence Gigi (ESPECIALLY now since she's her Aunty Gigi's mini-twin!!!) So yeah… basically I suck at naming girls.”

OK, all we're hoping is that we can make our minds up when the time comes!

Presents, decorations, tins of biscuits and turkey… all the turkey. There's a lot to worry about when planning a typical Irish Christmas.

While we always swear we'll help out with the cooking, cleaning, table-setting and veggie-roasting on Christmas Day, in reality we're generally shooed out of the kitchen by our very flustered mam.

In fact, a huge 45% of Irish mammies say they do the Christmas Day baking alone – that's according to a new survey by Stork.

And 1 in 5 Irish mothers say the hard work they do at Christmas goes unappreciated – even though we do try to lend a hand. Well, just once, before falling asleep in front of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

It's tough being a mammy at this time of year – and here are nine things you're bound to hear in your house over the festive season:

1. 'Two weeks to Christmas? That flew in'
Calendars, eh? Mad yokes.

2. 'Where in God's name did I put the Christmas lights?'
Every year they're left in a 'safe place.' Usually under a box of old duvets somewhere only she knows of.

3. 'While you're getting the decorations out of the attic, we might as well do a big clear out'
NOOOOOOO.

4. 'Who opened the good biscuits? Who was it?'
They're for the neighbours, doncha know.

5. 'I'm only doing a turkey crown this year, we were eating leftovers for a week last time.'
In the end though, she'll buy a full one, because how else would you make sambos after dinner?

6. 'I've a lovely Nigella recipe for Fruity Turkey Curry for Stephen's Day.'
Cue groans.

7. 'NO phones at the dinner table this year.'
But how else will we take selfies in our Christmas cracker hats?

8. 'Will you come into town with me, I've one or two things left to get'
'One or two things' = approx 18 tins of biscuits, presents for ALL the cousins and an outfit for Christmas Day.

9. 'Do you think we'll have enough?'
Usually said while looking anxiously at a trolley bursting with selection boxes and bottles of fizzy orange.

One Direction star Zayn Malik has bought his fiancée’s mum a new house!

Zayn is engaged to Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, 20, and reportedly decided to foot the bill for his future mum-in-law Debbie’s new home in Dorset, south west England when he heard she was planning the move.

Perrie was said to have been planning to pay the mortgage for her mum before Zayn offered to buy it outright!

The house apparently costs more than £200,000 and is a new build.

Zayn has been dating his fellow pop star for two years and popped the question last summer.

Perrie’s family are said to be thrilled with this lovely gesture ahead of the wedding.

The 21-year-old singer and his bandmates have become the richest boyband in British music history with a combined fortune of £70 million.

So he does have a few quid to spare in fairness!

It had been rumoured that Selena Gomez and her parents were not on speaking terms following her firing them as her managers.

However, now it would seem that is all behind them as Selena posted this heartfelt photo of her and her mum.

The photo features a very tiny Selena being held by her mother who looks exactly like her, apart from the 90s hair, of course!

Selena captioned the sweet image: “I’m not sure I can express what kind of woman she is, all I can say is she changed my life completely. Happy Mother’s Day. I love you momma.”

We guess that means that any issues between the two have been sorted, which is good to see.
