The Kardashians are always on top of the latest beauty trends, but this one is next level eccentric. From the 'vampire' facial that Kim made famous to micro-needling; the famous reality star family try some pretty out there beauty routines.

Kourtney shared an image of herself and Kim using an unusual face mark regime which absolutely TRANSFORMED their faces, and fans were alarmed to say the least. Their eyes and lips are completely contorted, and it's not a filter.

The gals were trying out the new Korean facial mask named Hanacure, which is meant to be some type of anti-ageing miracle of some sort.

"Kim convinced me to use this face mask and I feel stunning," Kourtney wrote to her Instagram followers.

38-year-old Kim and 39-year-old Kourtney manage to defy ageing, with skin products or money, and now they're giving their social media followers a good laugh at least with the latest one. The gel mask creates a zombified effect on the skin, hence the alarming response from fans.

The lifting serum works its magic presumably; their skin was soaking up the supposed renewing and rejuvenating effects.

The Hanacure Multi-Action Treatment Mask "promises to ‘dramatically transform the appearance of your skin" by removing impurities and dead skin cells from your pores.

You peel back the top of the square ‘gelling solution’ pot, pour in the vial of ‘purifying compound’ and shake until mixed, and then spread the mask over your skin with the brush provided.

Ironically, the face contorts and as the mask dries and tightens, it gives you wrinkles. You get older…trying to look younger. Picture Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman. We're glad Kourtney has a sense of humour about it at least…

From gallivanting across the globe with her modelling work to stunning us all with the perfect Insta outfit picture, former Miss Universe Ireland Joanna Cooper is definitely one of our favourite people to follow.

Showcasing behind the scenes details of her majorly successful modelling career, as well as nights on the town and travel excursions, the 25-year-old has almost 100,000 people following her career.

We chatted to the model ahead of her appearance at last week's Nasty Gals Do Dublin event, to get the suss on her attitudes to social media, her modelling motivators and what the hell she uses to get her skin that stunning:

Working in modelling, Joanna is exposed to the full force of fashion influence, but maintains her classic, comfortable but chic look.

Describing her personal style as 'comfortable but cool,'  she often looks to social media for inspiration.

'I spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking at trends on there, and I get a lot of style inspiration off Instagram, the likes of Olivia Culpo (@oliviaculpo) – just people that show their everyday style, so then when you're travelling you can look to them for ideas. They always know how to make comfortable clothing look really chic.'

'I wear a lot of black and a lot of leather so anything that looks effortless but cool,' she finished, described her own look – and one glance at her Instagram is evidence enough.

The model is loving boiler suits as a trend this season, rocking a particularly edgy leather one-piece from Nasty Gal to the brand's Dublin event last week.

When it comes to fashion, the Derry native definitely has a look that screams off-duty model. From statement jackets to  perfectly fitting jeans, teamed with crop tops and simple separates, it's clearly a recipe that works. However, there is a trend that Coops isn't particularly fond of:

'I see everyone is wearing cycling shorts at the minute and I just cannot do it' she laughed. 'Not for me – they look fab on other people but I'm not feeling it.'

While fashion is clearly a strong suit for the gal, when we discovered we would be chatting to Joanna, one question immediately sprung to mind – her skincare routine.

Joanna is definitely renowned for having one of the most striking faces in the modelling industry, and a flawless complexion to match.

'I'm lucky that I don't have bad skin but its not amazing. What you see on instagram is a lot of products, and I think if you're going to invest in anything, invest in skincare because if you don't, then your makeup doesn't go on half as well and you're not addressing the problem underneath. I would invest in skincare and a good glowy highlight because then you can fake the glow.'

Stressing that she has never been sponsored by the brand, she revealed that her ultimate skincare hero product is the Alpha-H Liquid Gold – a glycolic resurfacing treatment toner. Joanna explains how using the toner every second night helps her to maintain her fresh faced glow.

A post shared by JO COOPS (@joannacoops) on

Despite her whopping 96k following on Instagram, Joanna does not consider herself a social media influencer. The key to striking the right balance between running her day to day, hectic modelling work alongside having an online presence is not forcing it.

'I just like to keep it natural. If im on set or doing a job ill post about it and that seems to gain the most interest for me,' she detailed.

'I wouldn't really consider myself as an influencer. but people seem to be interested in my work so I just try and share as much if that as possible.'

While for many, the positives of putting yourself out there online are freebies, endorsements and encouraging comments, for Joanna, what she gets out of the online community she has crafted is the opportunity to chat with people she would not otherwise meet.

'I like to get to interact with people that you wouldn't get to interact with in real life, and if anyone has any questions I try to answer them as much as I can,' she said.

And while being an influencer, or in Joanna's case, a model with a huge following, can bring many opportunities to the table, the pressures and negative aspects of social media can be vast. Luckily, Joanna has not had to deal with too much online animosity.

'If I want to post something, I will, but I wont be like "oh I have to post something on Insta" so maybe it's because I'm not on it all the time that I don't really see any negative stuff.'

'I feel like because it's not my main job, I have my main job and I just post about it, that I don't worry too much. But I completely understand (the pressure) when it's your bread and butter to keep up with posts but because its not for me, that's why I can be a bit more laid back about it.'

A post shared by JO COOPS (@joannacoops) on

As a model, Joanna has worked worked with huge brands, and her social media documents the hectic work schedule she keeps up – to remain motivated, she recalls always having wanted to work as a model, and her gratitude to be able to do the job she loves pushes her on.

'I like being busy. I've always wanted to do the job im doing, so now that i have it i just really appreciate it all the time and if something comes up id rather go and get it than sit back and later think 'oh I should have done that.' Its the fear of regretting not doing something.'

When it comes to the highly competitive modelling industry, Joanna remarks that there are two women in particular who she thinks are really changing the game.

'I love all of the plus size models like Ashley Graham.'

Louise O'Reilly – I love her. She has changed the game and changed how women look at themselves and has given women so much confidence.'

A post shared by JO COOPS (@joannacoops) on

'Speaking of modelling she remarks: 'I'll never get bored of it,'  but highlights how comparison syndrome can get her down like it would any other woman.

'The comparison aspect – when your job is based on your image sometimes its hard. You feel like shit one day and you have to go and stand in front of the camera. Every girl has insecurities if they are comparing themselves against other people and it becomes more prevalent when you are a model – you just have to understand that everyone is their own person and embrace yourself.'

'And with social media it has gotten so much worse, particularly in younger girls comparing themselves.'

Finishing up our chat, she left us with a major mic drop moment: 'You need to realise that social media is curated and what's online is probably 10% of that person's real life.

'Remember that everyone had their own struggles.  You're just seeing curated images online – that's not real life.'

As women who regularly take trips to Brown Thomas, Boots and Superdrug to satiate our unquenchable thirst for the latest innovations in makeup and beauty, we're all too aware of the cost of keeping up with our favourite beauty trends.

So if you could get your hands on a couple of Urban Decay Naked palettes, some Anastasia Beverly Hills highlighting kits and anything from 10 to 30 designer lipsticks for absolutely free, what would you say?

Well the obvious answer is sign me up, but what if you knew that these items came from rummaging around in dumpsters in the dead of night?

Wtf I can't believe I found like $400 worth of products from dumpster diving #ultadumpsterdiving #dumpsterdivinghaul

A photo posted by bai (◕‿◕✿) (@_baichan) on

There are few things we wouldn't do to get the latest designer beauty bits into our already over crowded makeup bags, but dumpster diving might be where we draw the line.

However, not everyone shares the same snobby sentiments, as dumpster diving, or "skip raiding" as it is also known, is a thriving community.

YouTube is awash with videos showcasing mega hauls pulled out of bins behind major department stores, with some hauls being worth up to €5000.

A photo posted by dumpster diving (@dumpsterhaulics) on

The items are then either kept by the owners to use, or in most cases, cleaned up and sold in online buy and sell groups on Facebook.

With the increased visibility through Facebook groups and with more people posting their own dives to YouTube, the beauty bin bonanzas are taking over the internet.

Some YouTube videos have millions of views, showing off hundreds of free, unopened products.

Products that are used as testers in store and products which have been returned due to fault or damage are often thrown away.

Some stores choose not to use the testers provided from makeup companies, and these are thrown out, still sealed and unopened.

Damaged items can have minor faults, from a crack in an eye shadow pan to the cap of a perfume bottle falling off.

High end electrical items like hairdryers, GHDs and Clarisonics are usually returned to the manufacturer if they have been returned on the basis of fault or damage.

American stores like Ulta, Bath and Bodyworks and major department stores like Bloomingdales are all targets for expert divers.

The legality of skip raiding is a bit of a grey area in Ireland, as taking things out of bins could theoretically be considered theft as it is still the property of the owner until it is removed by the refuse companies.

According to the Theft and Fraud section of the Criminal Offences Act 2001, "a person is guilty of theft if he or she dishonestly appropriates property without the consent of its owner and with the intention of depriving its owner of it."

There is also the issue of trespassing and picking locks on padlocked bins.

Stores have instructions to destroy products before dumping them, a process known in the dumpster diving community as "souping.'

The shops will open unwanted foundations and nail varnishes and pour them all over the rest of the soon-to-be dumped products, essentially destroying them and preventing them from futher resale, while also making it more difficult for divers to discover the products in the bins.

"As a beauty professional, I wouldn't recommend diving for makeup UNLESS stuff is still sealed," wrote one Reddit user, in a thread dedicated to beauty bin dumpster diving.

"Sealed stuff? Go for it. Perfume (testers or still in box)? Go for it! Hair products (testers or no)? Have fun!"

One Youtuber, Lillian Kay, publishes videos showcasing her expansive hauls, while also giving tips on how to make the products hygienic to use.

A photo posted by dumpster diving (@dumpsterhaulics) on

"I sanitise everything that I find with rubbing alcohol, and rubbing alcohol evaporates, so it doesn't damage the products whatsoever," says Lillian.

"Even if you find a cracked eye shadow or a cracked powder, you just pour rubbing alcohol into it, re-compact it, and it will be good as new."

While the beauty raiding community is thriving online, it does have its haters.

Beauty forum Lipstick Alley has an entire thread dedicated to slating the method; "Sorry but that is just nasty," said one user.

"If you can't afford some of these products then you don't need them because resorting to diving in a dumpster to find all these so called treasures of make up is just down right disgusting."

"This is something you don't tell anybody about," said another.

Despite the online trolling these dumpster divers receive, it's not enough to put them off the thought of thousands of euro worth of free makeup.

It's something we've been looking forward to since she made the announcement that it was gonna happen.

We live our lives on Instagram these days and the slew of perfectly made-up faces can be tough to see every day – mostly because it's just so unrealistic.

While there are many beauty bloggers, influencers and MUA's generously using photoshopping and facetuning apps to re-shape and overhaul their entire appearances, it's refreshing to have those who are lifting the lid and showing us exactly how much they can edit the snaps you see.

Irish beauty influencer TooDollyMakeUp aka Jen Morris took to her Instagram Stories to get real about the FaceTuning app – and we were all ears.

A post shared by J E N M O R R I S (@toodollymakeup) on

She made interesting points – all of which she assured was not to upset anyone, but show how easily an image can be edited.

She said, ''I use FaceTune full disclosure FYI but never to this extent…''

Then she went on to show us exactly how she used the app – firstly, by changing the tone of her skin slightly, then by making her cheekbones appear sharper before smoothing out the skin on her cheeks.

Jen is aware that FaceTune is normalised in the influencing industry and thinks is down to the fact that it's free and easy to use.

She told SHEmazing, ''I really don't think it's going anywhere soon. I mean, look at someone like James Charles who is massively successful and is a very talented marketer and influencer openly using FT and even has tutorials on how he completely changes his facial features in the majority of his images.''

On her Stories, she continues to show us the extent in which people edit their images – she enhances the size of her lips before doing the usual Instagram stuff of altering the warmth and lighting.

Phew – that's a hell of a lot of work, isn't it?

A post shared by J E N M O R R I S (@toodollymakeup) on

When asked what she thinks of a small amount of FaceTune for aesthetic reasoning, she is a fan but only because a lot of her content is makeup-related.

She said, ''Sometimes the camera just does not capture colour or texture the way it looks to the naked eye so I like to use FaceTune for that reason. I use it to make details pop, to make the texture of glitter show. At the end of the day 'Do you boo boo' if you want to FaceTune  the life and soul out of your pictures do it but people are going to see you in person so just be aware!''

So why did she open up about the app on her Stories?

A post shared by J E N M O R R I S (@toodollymakeup) on

She said, ''I just wanted to show people that not everything you see online is what it seems. I feel sorry for younger girls looking at these hyper-real IG MUAs with no pores or texture to their skin sitting at home wondering why they don’t look like this no matter what they try!''

She added, ''I don’t think FT is bad, I just think people aren’t aware of it so that can be quite damaging to their self esteem similar to the effect that magazines have had in the past and to some extent still have!''

Jen's words of wisdom are ones to take away from all of this – ''Don't beat yourself up if you don't look like people on IG, half the time we don't look like ourselves either.''

And to that we say – amen.

Getting lip fillers has become a front-and-centre kind thing in the media, thanks to celebs like Kylie Jenner and Megan Barton Hanson being vocal about using them.

While there are zillions of clinics and aestheticians that can safely give you a fuller pout, there are just as many places that will put yourself at massive risk.

And no-one wants that.

Irish clinic Consultant Clinic, which also has clinics in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London, has taken to social media to blast people choosing non-medics to get lip fillers – and the results are scary.

A post shared by The Consultant Clinic (@consultant_clinic) on

They uploaded snaps of the treatment-gone-wrong (which should be avoided for if you're in ANY way squeamish) and told teh story of a woman who wanted to get her lips done for a wedding but went to a beautician to get them, in a non-clinical home setting.

They wrote, '' We post for public interest and your safety and information – to make you aware of exactly what risks you're taking by choosing a non medic as your injector. The beautician, couldn't have done a better job of an intravascular injection if she had tried, and blocked off her arterial supply, by injecting a huge blob of filler into the vessel, starving it of oxygen and life.''

The horrifying story continued, ''The lips became ischaemic, and were agony. The tissue of her lip rapidly died and rotted on her face, and yes you can see correctly – actually FELL OFF.''

The Clinic does say that this can happen with even highly trained practitioners but the fact that the doctor didn't recognising ischaemia and necrosis is dangerous.

A post shared by The Consultant Clinic (@consultant_clinic) on

The post continued, ''Is this a risk you really want to take with your face, the essence of your identity and self-esteem? Thank you so much to the lovely @dr.alaa_aref for allowing us to use her images, and for helping to raise awareness.''

People were horrified by this tale and took to the comments to say so.

One said, ''This is terrible! Frustrating to see such poor injecting, poor understanding of anatomy and poor management (or non existent rather) of a serious complication! We need some serious regulation in this industry!''

While another wrote, ''This is so, so heartbreaking. I can’t imagine what she’s feeling now. I really hope there’s a way out through surgery and that the practitioner gets held accountable for this.''

Take this as a major warning – if you're going for this type of procedure research you will be messing wth your face BEFORE you have it done because the alterative is so not worth it.

There's no doubt about it; Tyra Banks changed the face of the modelling industry forever. From starting a massively successful TV show on the concept of model-hunting, to fashion lines to movies (Lifesize, anyone?), the woman is iconic.

Her star is set to rise even further, if that's even possible, because apparently she's set to open a 21,000 square foot AMUSEMENT PARK in Los Angeles about models. Seriously…Just picture the level of fierce.

We, for one, were literally obsessed with America's Next Top Model; the show spanned 24 cycles and we watched them all. The television series had a huge number of hooked fans, so her Model-Land theme park should be a success.
