It feels as if women in Ireland are in a constant game of tug of war.

We made progress by repealing the eighth but have been hurdled backwards from rulings like the Belfast rape trial.

But one thing we do have is a voice, and it is being heard now more than ever.

17-year-old Natalya O’Flaherty is speaking up for gender equality through spoken word. Her poetry highlights important issues that continue to plague young girls growing up in modern society.

Her recent piece Not Like Other Girls does just that – levels the childhood playing field and shows that girls cannot be defined ‘from a mindset moulded by man’.

She begins the poem, commissioned by RTÉ, by describing her own ‘tomboy’ experience (the very word itself demonstrates how badly the definition of girlhood needs to evolve).

I never liked pink or glitter or bows. Instead I chose blue and dirt and diggin’.

Never liked lipsticks or perfume, never hung horse-themed posters in my bedroom,

assumed I was not like the other girls, and the other girls were not like me.

I shied away from my femininity, maximised my masculinity

so that the boys wouldn’t pick me last in team chasing.

I’d sooner fall in the muck than be stuck sittin’ with the girls,

all swappin’ stories of the glories of kissing boys. It was all just noise to me.

Natalya was pushed out of both gender groups for having 'masculine' and 'feminine' characteristics.

I didn’t see why I was different but I knew I was.

I didn’t abide by the agreed upon girl code laws.

I didn’t want to be girly or soft or weak.

I didnt want to be considered delicate or meek ‘cause that’s what girls are

– or so I was told.

She was torn in two by a society that was forcing her to choose, compromising her identity to fit traditional gender roles.

Society had pitted me against myself.

I denied my own identity to embody what was said to be for the boys,

but now I know I’m not like other girls.

I can be soft and strong in the same breath.

I can like shoes and makeup and still have depth.

I can be brave while wiping tears on my sleeve.

I can be everything or nothing I’m expected to be.

She ended the poem with this epiphany, coming into her own and accepting who she is:

I can be like the other girls and they can be like me.

Natalya’s daring statements capture what it’s like growing up in Ireland and how much that truly needs to change.

If you let it, Instagram could lead you to believe that everyone on the feed leads charmed lives, full of holiday sunsets, gifts from the boyfriend, and cocktail boomerangs.

It's usually a snippet of the best part of people'#s lives, which is bad enough when it's coming from people we actually know, but throw celebrities and influencers into the mix, and it becomes a medley of 5 star hotel stays, Maldives snapshots and, more frequently, private jet photo shoots.

The private jet picture is the ultimate Insta-brag – a showcase of wealth, wanderlust and excess. Of course, a regular Joe or Jane wouldn't be able to create this coveted brag thanks to the extortionate cost of flying private (we will take our middle seat on a Ryan Air flight any day thanks to the cost of premium air travel).

Now however, one artist is bringing the private jet experience to us mere mortals, in an attempt to draw attention to the fact that people definitely shouldn't be believing everything they see on social media.

The LA-based Matty Mo has designed a private jet set-up, complete plane style windows with light pouring in, glasses of champagne and leather bucket style airplane seats.

The set is currently living in an LA branch of Fred Segal – as part of social media art hub Selfie Circus.

The pictures look incredibly convincing – if we didn't know any better, we would just assume that these selfie queens were jet-setting in style.

"The Private Jet Experience was created because we wanted to be able to take pictures on a private jet like all of the celebrities we see online," the artist said, in a statement to Insider.

"Most people cannot afford a real jet, so we made one that democratises access to a backdrop previously reserved for the rich and famous."

We definitely think it's an amazing concept that draws attention to Instagram vs Reality culture.

Well, it's official, this time ten years ago, Twilight bit its way into every teenage girl's heart.

And what ensued was an OBSESSION over Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson – don't deny it, you had the posters.

So to mark the very special occasion of a ten-year milestone, Taylor hilariously trolled Kendall Jenner and it's GOLD.

Taking to Instagram, our fave werewolf uploaded a side by side picture of himself and the supermodel.

In the caption, he wrote: "It’s been 10 years exactly since Twilight was released in theatres."

"I thought I should take this moment to thank every single fan who has supported the franchise over the last decade but also to thank Kendall Jenner for being my hair inspo back in 07.’"

"Thank you fans. And thank you Kendall" – someone give the man a medal because that's hilarious.

Naturally, Robert and Kristen Stewart are dry shites compared to Taylor and haven't yet released anything about the 10 year anniversary – true to form, to be honest.

It was no secret that Robert hated the franchise more than anyone else, so he's probably trying to ignore the entire day.

Although as much as he attempts to distance himself from the movies, they will always be a solid part of our adolescents and the desire to be a blood-sucking vampire.

Happy Birthday, Twilight – and it HAS to be noted that Taylor is still very much an absolute ride.

Ariana Grande has taken to social media and sprinkled some bada** lady dust all over the place.

The singer took on Piers Morgan and absolutely OWNED him.

To get you up to speed with the Piers Morgan drama that has been unfolding over the week – basically, he did what he always does to stay relevant.

He slandered talented, beautiful women for empowering themselves.

The drama all kicked off with a tweet, where Piers stated that Little Mix stole an idea from the Dixie Chicks and then went after member Jesy Nelson when she posted a pic in her undies.

Piers directed his hate towards Jesy after she blasted his comments on BBC Radio One, when Piers claimed that Little Mix uses 'their nudity' to sell their latest album.

Jesy said that he was a 'silly t*at' – which unleashed a triggered Piers to attack her smoking hot picture.

He tweeted: "Sultry? She looks ridiculous. Ask her to put some clothes on (if she has any…) & apologise for calling me a tw*t.”

Cue the Internet going after Piers, the first one to put some manners on him was Joan Grande.

Joan questioned Piers' upbringing and referenced an attack that the morning show host had directed at Ellen DeGeneres.

She tweeted: “Honestly what is wrong with you @piersmorgan ? Didn’t your mother ever teach you, if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it! You came for @TheEllenShow yesterday which was disgraceful, she is an angel. @LittleMix today, did you ever hear of paying homage? And..well never mind.” – YOU TELL HIM.

Of course, Piers bit back calling Ellen a "hypocrite" and said that he would prefer Little Mix to "use their talent to sell records rather than their nudity.
As your own daughter does..!"

Here comes ARIANA. Defending Ellen and the use of her own sexuality in her music, the tweet oozed level 10 sass.

"Ellen is an incredible & kind human being.. I use my talent AND my sexuality all the time because I choose to. women can be sexual AND talented. Naked and dignified. It’s OUR choice. And we will keep fighting til people understand. I say this with all due respect but thank u, next," she said.

However, the singer didn't feel like she got everything off her chest and added another tweet.

"Also @piersmorgan, I look forward to the day you realise there are other ways to go about making yourself relevant than to criticise young, beautiful, successful women for everything they do. I think that’ll be a beautiful thing for you and your career or what’s left of it," she tweeted.

Ariana then finished him off by responding to a half-naked picture of Piers (ew) and asked: "When you do it it's okay though, right?" – MIC DROP.

We are absolutely digging the schooling the singer gave Piers, and just when we thought we couldn't love Ari anymore, what a queen.

Women standing up and supporting other women – there's nothing better.

In case you don't remember Aaron Carter (brother of Nick), he was essentially the 90s embodied; a teen singing heartthrob with questionable blonde hair who sang about candy.

Yes, he's the young boy who sang I Want Candy, and yet continued to have a career.

He's still performing nowadays with a new album, but he frequently serves clapbacks to his online haters through his Twitter account, and this time it was all about adolescent male singers.

According to Carter, he "paved the way" for Justin Bieber's fame, and was never given any credit for it. Hmm, I know we have some thoughts on this matter.

Seems a little self-absorbed to us, but what was even more surprising was Justin Bieber's response.

Seeing as Carter, now 30, claimed that singers such as Jesse McCartney and J.Biebs never "gave him homage", you'd think they'd be annoyed at this comment, but Bieber actually backed him up on this.

Justin tweeted: "Aaron Carter, I had your album when I was little. And bumped the song Aaron's Party. I was like 7, if you need a hype man i got you." Well, colour us surpised.

Their conversation continued in a pretty friendly manner, and maybe Carter had a point.

He never reached the level of success which Justin Bieber achieved, but did he begin the era of teenage boys singing absolute bops to teenage girls?

So it's true, Aaron Carter was one of Justin Bieber's inspirations, and then Justin Bieber's new tunage inspired Aaron Carter's new album, LøVë.

Consider us confused and amused.

Image: Pedestrian TV

There's no doubt that late 1990s teen singer Jesse McCartney was influenced by Aaron Carter too, I mean the Beautiful Soul singer literally resembles his twin.

What do you think, was Aaron Carter just being a slightly bitter lemon that he never got the same attention, or did he pave the way for The Biebs?

We, for one, are glad this didn't turn into a spat.

We don't wanna celebrate too soon.

But c'mon – a FOUR day working week?

A leading trade union, Forsa, has called for a national debate to bring in this glorious four day week.

The union believes that technology advances have made it possible for workers to have more time off.

A conference is being hosted  in Dublin today, called 'The Future of Working Time.'

The even better news is that as a result of the technological advances, Forsa says productivity in companies that have a shorter week has actually risen.

It's like music to our ears.

However, some critics have slammed the idea as ''ambitious.''

Forsa spokesperson Joe O'Connor says, "It would have been said 100 years ago that the weekend was an unachievable ambition."

He continued, "This fetishization of working long hours, always being on, that culture has crept into Irish society in recent years."

Can we actually get more work done in four days then five?

Will it help our mental heath?

Most of us know that there are dead hours in a working day – like the one after lunch, the first half hour in the morning, the last half hour of the day, pretty much the last two hours on a Friday, tbf.

But if we condensed the work we need to get done every week in four days, we would be a lot less likely to waste any hours and keep our noses to the grindstone to get everything done.

Now, will it be Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday?

Donald Trump is facing some ridicule this morning, after the President of the Uniited States of America tweeted that the winter weather being experienced is evidence that climate change is a myth.

'Brutal and Extended Cold Blast could shatter ALL RECORDS – Whatever happened to Global Warming?' he wrote, to his 55.8 million Twitter followers.

The tweet shows the POTUS's distnct lack of understanding when it comes to the difference between weather and climate – as the scientists at NASA put it:

'The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time. Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere "behaves" over relatively long periods of time.'

'When we talk about climate change, we talk about changes in long-term averages of daily weather.'

'Naturally, what with this being a Donald Trump tweet, the responses cam in droves as the POTUS was ridiculed for his inability to differentiate between the weather and climate change.

Here are just a few responses from indignant Twitter users who believe in science:

We hope both couples are happily loved up, it must be intimidated to date The Terminator's daughter though… just sayin'

Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse are a couple that seem to be going from strength to strength.

The Riverdale pair, who met on the set of the CW show, have been dating for quite a while now – though it was ages before they confirmed the rumours that they were a couple.

However, they have begun to post a bit more about each other on their social media and Lili even took it a step further when she uploaded pictures of Cole to her Insta story – of him in her home for Thanksgiving.

Massive relationship milestone alert – meeting the parents.

The 22-year-old posted snaps of Cole with her dogs as well as a video of her dg by her dad's side as he cooked eggs.

She also posted an adorable video of her goddaughter Adeline making Thanksgiving cookies.

How sweet.

Since then, they have gushed about each other in various interviews.

Lili has said that she wants to keep her love life private because, '' it's just between two people, and that's the way it should be. It's not like I'm trying to dangle my relationship in front of people's faces like, 'you don't know anything about us.' It's just, you don't need to know. People feel like they're owed that, and you're absolutely not owed anything by me."

She did say some nice things about her boyf though.

"I like to go on adventures with Cole. He takes me to places where I'm like, 'How did you find this?' He's made me see these things that I would have never seen otherwise. It's escapism, which is so beautiful and wonderful."

And what about Cole?

He admits that Lili ''was a tough egg to crack, she's very shy at first, reserved, and I think it was about halfway into the first season she started letting people in truly."

However, he continued, ''she's one of those people that consistently pushes me to be better at the arts that I'm pursuing, and that's just the kind of person she is, she inspires excellence out of everybody she works with."

Sounds like true love to us.

Kim Kardashian was one of the celebrities who had to flee from her home because of the Californian wildfires.

Although the fires are now under control, people still cannot return home, including Kim.

Opening up on The Ellen Show, the 38-year-old explained that the fire had raged to the gates of their home.

However, they were extremely lucky to have resources to hire private firefighters, which ended up saving their home.

Despite being very lucky that her home is still standing, the property is currently unhabitable.

Kim detailed to Ellen that the smell of smoke is still lingering and is preventing them from returning home.

"We're still not in our home now, because the smoke smell is too intense," she said.

And another 200,000 smackers to the California Community Foundations Wildfire Relief Fund.

Furthermore, they splashed the cash for a firefighter and his wife, Michael and Lisa Williams who sadly lost his home due to the fires.

Fair play to Kim and Kayne, and to all the firefighters who worked around the clock to save homes, people and animals.
