Yearly Archives: 2019

Conor McGregor and Dee Devlin welcomed their second child into the world this week and we couldn’t be happier for the parents.

30-year-old Conor confirmed the news in a sweet photo of him carrying their newborn out of the hospital with his eldest son Conor Jr by his side.

The dad has yet to confirm the name and gender of their second born, but rumour has it their tiny tot is a baby girl.

According to the Irish Daily Star, Dee gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at the Coombe Hospital.

The proud parents decided to call their daughter Croia, which is a Gaelic name meaning ‘little heart.’

How adorable!

Baby Croia is Conor and Dee’s second child. The pair welcomed their first born Conor Jr in May 2017.

There’s no doubt Conor Jr is over the moon by the arrival of his little sister.

Following the birth of their second child, Conor shared: "Heading home with my two healthy babies and an energized and healthy SuperMam.”

"2019 is off to the best start! Thank you for the well wishes everybody!” he added.

It looks like Westlife and the Spice Girls have caused a new trend in the music industry following news of another reformation.

McFly have confirmed that they are finally reuniting this year and are set to record new music by the summer.

Bass player Dougie Poynter confirmed the news on the Sappenin’ podcast and there’s no doubt fans of the All About You singers are overjoyed by the long-awaited reunion.

Dougie shared: “McFly will at least start writing by the summer and I can’t wait I love that band and I love the guys. It’s awesome.”

The Too Close For Comfort singers have been focusing on other projects and expanding their families since the band went on a break in 2014.

Even Dougie admitted that the break has been a lot longer than he expected: “We decided to take some time off after we did McBusted because it was a two-year tour and there was naturally some other things everyone wanted to do.

“It actually worked out really well because all the other guys had kids in that time, so they’ve all been home for their kids.

“It almost happened last year but someone had a project or something that was coming up smack bang in the middle. And we just didn’t think there was any point,” he explained.

It may have taken far too long but we are so happy to hear that the Shine A Light singers are finally back together again.

Ireland has been in grips of a housing crisis for far too long, and many young people have uprooted their lives to seek opportunities and good living conditions further afield.

For the price of a shared bunk bed in a room with four other people in Dublin, you could get a private double bed room in an apartment ijn most EU cities – including the city which has topped the list for the most liveable in the world.

According to The Economist's Intelligence Global Liveability Index 2018, Vienna, Austria is the best place to live in the entire world.

Cities were ranked by their challenges to living standards, crime rates, healthcare systems and facilities, social or religious restrictions, culture, threat of terror, weather, education options transport infrastructure, and economy.

These rankings tallied up to a total final score, leading to a list of the best 10 and worst 10 respectively.

Vienna topped the charts thanks to it's rich cultural heritage and near perfect health and transport systems. If you're thinking of moving there, a room in a shared three-bedroom apartment 10 minutes from the city centre will set you back about €530 per month.

Just when we thought 2019 was going well, we were hit with this.

We didn't really need anymore confirmation that property in Dublin is expensive AF – but it's about to get even pricer.

Their forecast for 2019 is less than half of the figure they predicted for last year.

The Sunday Times said it was an indication that estate agents are more cautious for the year ahead, following a subdued 2018 for the Dublin property market.

Prices were expected to rise last year, but they crept up slower than anticipated.

Predictions for the year ahead vary from no change to price increases of 7 percent, reports The Sunday Times.

But the vast majority of estate agents foresee increases of 3-5 percent in the low to mid-market.

Very small increases are expected for property valued at €750,000 or above, and despite inflation slowing, many estate agents still predict to see slight price rises.

The cheapest place to buy a home in Dublin are in Ballymun, Dublin 11, Neilstown in Dublin 22, and Darndale in Dublin 17.

However, if you have the cash to splash – Dublin’s most expensive suburbs will cost up to three times as much.

A three-bedroom townhouse in Ranelagh, Dublin 6 will set you back an average of  €650,000.

Last year, I went to a psychic and it pretty much put my life on hold for months, or at least, I did*

It all began in the summer of 2018, I was a little bit lost regarding a number of elements in my life and a family friend suggested that three of us go down and talk to a psychic. Two of my companions had already had readings with him, but it was my first time ever delving into this world and I thought it would be a bit of fun.

I am not really sure what I expected, but he allowed me to take notes which was a positive for me from the get-go. But I soon put the pencil down as he began telling me intimate details of my life and private conversations that even my mother doesn’t know.

It is fair to say I was fascinated and freaked. Questions I had been pondering for months were being answered without even being asked.

However, it was the details revealed by the psychic about my love life that made me hit the pause button on my life. At the time, I was seeing someone, it was in its infancy but as far as I was concerned, it was going very well. I was very confident back in the dating world as I had spent the guts of a year and a half single, getting to know myself after a four-year relationship had ended.

The psychic told me that my current relationship would run into some trouble – and low and behold, a few weeks later – I was dumped. But I was told that this person would come back to me around Christmas time and it would be MY decision on whether or not to continue the relationship or kill it stone dead – and here’s where the trouble began, cue my not-so-inner control-freak being unleashed.

At the time of my new born singleness, it was late summer. Although I understood from the reading we’d hit a hard time, being dumped and the way in which it was done wasn’t something I had foreseen

He decided to take a job in another city about a two hour drive away, we had talked about it. He came to the conclusion that he didn’t want to be in a long-distance relationship. The only problem is that he didn’t inform me. He attempted to ghost me, refused to meet up and dump me to my face – note, this man was in his mid-thirties, he knew what he was doing was sh*tty. I was the one who had to ring and ask him what on earth was going on – and that’s when he finally dumped me.

To add insult to injury, I found out a few weeks later that he didn’t actually move for another month. So he had every opportunity to meet up with me and end it properly. I was so confused as he had treated me like a queen when we had been dating – and to end it like that, so negatively – I was shookth.

I was feeling VERY sorry for myself and frustrated at the entire situation. The idea that he was coming back made me cocky and act out in ways that I probably wouldn’t have, if I hadn’t have known. The end of us seeing each other was messy to say the least.

What came next then was a waiting game, I gave myself some time, attempted to date other people here and there to take my mind off it, as I had a similar experience with a guy I briefly dated before him, and it worked a charm. However, we had ended a lot differently.

In the back of my head, I foolishly believed that my ex would be on his merry way back and these dates were just something to kill the waiting time – BAD, yes I know, but secretly I never lost hope and the waiting really messed with my head.

The urgency to check my phone as the weeks and then months passed grew stronger and I could never really move on with anyone else because I had that past relationship still weighing on my mind.

As obsessive as that may sounds, in hindsight, I got caught up in the idea of this person coming back and the psychic being correct, rather than focusing on what I had learnt from the experience of being with this individual.

After a break up, I usually take time to knock back a tub of ice cream and come to my senses that we were either – a) terrible for one another, b) I had a lucky escape or c) what I had learnt from that time was very valuable and I wanted to bring forward to my future dating experiences. Then I pour any extra time I had given my dating life, back into me by replenishing and caring for myself.

None of that happened this time and closure never really came from the way we departed each other’s lives, the idea of us being totally wrong for each other was never really assessed. I was more curious about what could be and buried that logic entirely.

I was solely focused on what the psychic had told me about a potential future – which is a highly dangerous game to play. Instead of seeing this guy for who he was, I saw the fantasy version. The picture the psychic painted of our future was something I really didn’t want to lose, even if this guy was completely wrong for me.

It really interfered with my life as I stopped doing things I loved, my self-worth diminished and I was miserable. And the worst part is – I didn’t and don’t have anyone else to blame but myself.

As you all know, it’s now January. Christmas has come and gone, and not to any surprise – I’ve heard nothing. However, I’ve learnt my lesson and the last couple of weeks have been great. The catalyst was a mutual friend sharing a group picture which he was in. He was happy.

I realised that this entire time I wasn’t living in reality, I was caught up in a fantasy world. He had firmly moved on and I was probably a distant memory. It was exactly what I needed to snap out of the spell I put myself under.

As for my experience with psychics, I have decided that my future is best left to reveal itself, it’s dangerous to be hopeful about the potential idea as it blinds you to reality, and I’ve learnt that I need to sit with myself a little bit more and be honest about what I want for the future and why I yearned so much for the life a stranger had created.

If you’re a believer in the future being laid out in front of you, never forget that we can always alter our course – and I for one, am calling time on my relationship with any more psychics.

I’m laughing and cringing now at my experience and behaviour, but at the time the pain of holding out and thinking I could control my situation was very real.  My recommendation is not to try this at home kids. When you meet your psychics, make sure you are emotionally stable and ready to handle the insights that may be revealed to you.

*My experience was very much based on how I handled the information and not the reading itself.

Yesterday, the internet was awash with reports that Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid had separated after fans and paps noticed that the pair were 'spending time apart.'

However, with both of them being A-List celebrities with high-flying, busy, international careers, this didn't seem to be unusual.

Sadly, our optimism about the couple has been snubbed, after a source told US Weekly that the Zigi are officially no more.

'They’re done,' a source told the celeb news outlet. 'They could get back together, but it’s over for now.'

Apparently, the break up stemmed from issues surrounding Zayn that Gigi just could not handle.

The source told Us Weekly that Zayn has 'a lot of his own issues that [Hadid] couldn’t help him get through.'

If this is the case, what an extremely difficult thing for Gigi to go through.

Ellen DeGeneres has generated controversy by throwing her support behind comedian Kevin Hart, who was forced to step down as the host of the 2019 Academy Awards following accusations of homophobia.

Hart appeared on The Ellen Show for a full hour to promote his new film, The Upside, and to defend his decision to step down as the Oscars host following the re-surfacing of years-old tweets and quotes.

Ellen interviewed the comedian and according to Variety, said the producers of the Academy Awards "admitted to possibly mishandling Hart's departure” and would be “emphatic” to see him return.

The popular chat show host, and former host of the awards ceremony herself declared; “We want him to host. Whatever we can do, we want him to host.”

He spoke about the issue uninterrupted for nearly six minutes, a rarity on US television, and told Ellen that the Oscars was; "…one of the highest of highs, simply because there hasn't been a lot of African Americans that have been able to do it."

Saying it was "unreal" to be asked to host the coveted awards ceremony on ABC this February, he described the onslaught of social media backlash which followed his appointment and later led to his stepping down;

"To get the moment, celebrate the moment—'Oh, my God! I can't believe it's happen!'—and then the next morning after a day full of congratulations and celebrations, I'm hit with an onslaught on social media of my past coming back up again."

"Literally, the next morning! Not even a full 24 hours to glow in the glory of 'Kevin Hart Is Hosting This Year's Oscars,'" the comic described.

"When it happened, my first thought is, 'I'm going to ignore it. I'm going to ignore it because it's 10 years old. This is stuff I've addressed. I've talked about this. This isn't new. I've addressed it! I've apologised for it. I'm not going to pay it any mind.'"

The interview is broadcasting on today's episode of Ellen, with the host saying she believes in "second chances", and believes he deserves to host.

“It’s all they ever wanted him to do, and he’s doing it in spades. So now he should be able to come back on his own terms."

She has incredible influence in the public eye and within the awards circuit herself, so who knows what could happen?
