Demi Lovato has always been open and honest about her struggle with addiction.

Recently, the singer was hospitalised with a suspected overdose.

The 25-year-old was found unconscious at her home in the Hollywood Hills at 11 am on Tuesday, July 24.

In true Demi style, the singer has penned a candid letter, bravely opening up about her latest battle with addiction.

A post shared by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on

In light of the event, Demi took to Instagram to share her first statement since the incident.

The superstar began the letter about the realities of fighting the illness, that there is no simple fix to make it vanish.

"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet."

A post shared by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on

Demi went on to "thank God" that she's alive and well, whilst extending her thanks to all her fans who have offered endless support and love over the last week.

"Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time," she added.

The singer soon turned her attention to those closest to her and the staff, who she reckons without she wouldn't "be here writing this letter."

Understandably, Demi finished the statement by explaining that her focus will now be on getting better and she is looking forward to the future with the possibility of being 'on the other side.'

"I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side."

"I will keep fighting," she added.

Her transparency around her battle with addiction is truly admirable.

Demi's bravery and strength are shown throughout the letter and we are sure this attitude will help her on the road to recovery.

We are wishing her a speedy recovery and hope to see her fighting fit once again.

We've all been there – you eventually make it home after a big night out, snuggle into the covers and prepare yourself for the glorious lie-in that awaits, only to be rudely awoken by some kind of drunken mystic force at 8am.

Maybe it's our bodies trying to get back at us? Or perhaps it's the universe trying to turn us into functional human beings? Either way, it's annoying AF and it's time to get to the bottom of it.

Just like all out little bodily quirks, science has a big role to play. Speaking about the phenomenon, As Dr. Aaron White, a senior scientific advisor to the director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, explained to Buzzfeed:

"Alcohol tricks you into thinking you're sleeping better because you pass out a little faster but it's actually very disrupting and prevents you from getting a restful, deep sleep."

So, not only does alcohol make you lose all inhibitions and convince you that you're more than able to flirt with the hunky man at the bar, it also completely messes with your sleeping pattern – Great!

What's more, once the alcohol wears off in the middle of the night, our bodies enter into REM sleep, making it much easier to wake up.

Fan-bloody-tastic!

The only way to prevent this is to take it easy on the G&Ts and stop drinking a little earlier in the night.

You win some, you lose some.

I wandered into one of my favourite bookstores on Friday and within minutes I had three books in my arms. I continued to scour the shelves despite the stack of books I was ready to buy.

It’s impossible for me to leave a bookshop empty handed. I am the ultimate bookworm and can’t just browse through the shelves.

There’s always a new release that catches my eye or a classic tale that I’ve been meaning to read forever.

I easily could’ve spent a small fortune in that bookshop because there are dozens of incredible new stories out at the moment.

If you’re on the hunt for a new read then look no further. I’ll be splurging on the following books this month and you should too. They’re just too good to leave on the shelves.

The Weight of a Thousand Feathers by Brian Conoghan:

I think it’s important to remember that anyone can read YA books. We should never underestimate these tales just because they’re aimed at young adults. In my opinion, the genre is one of the strongest and most moving. Some of my favourite books hail from the YA section and will continue to do so for many years to come. I spotted The Weight of a Thousand Feathers in store thanks to the striking cover, but what really peaked my interest was the question the book explores- what lengths will we go to for the people we love?

Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig:

I have oodles of respect for author Matt Haig and his ability to discuss mental health disorders in such an honest way. His book Reasons To Stay Alive holds a very special place in my heart, so I was thrilled to see his latest release sitting on the best-sellers shelf this week. Notes on a Nervous Planet focuses on how to be happy on a planet that makes us feel alone, anxious and nervous. Matt Haig looks into the public’s desire to constantly be connected to the digital world and the impact it is having on our mental health.

This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay:

My best friend purchased this book at the end of our trip to Scotland and flew through it by the time we touched down in Dublin airport. I’m a Grey’s Anatomy addict, so anything medical related fascinates me (I blame McSteamy and McDreamy) so this book soared to the top of my books to-buy list. Adam Kay gives readers a brutally honest look at life as a junior doctor and what life is really like on and off the hospital ward.

Lili Reinhart has shared quite the sentimental post in honour of boyfriend Cole Sprouse’s 26th birthday.

The Riverdale star posted a photo of her co-star, believed to be taken on their trip to Cuixmala, Mexico earlier this year on her Instagram account.

Sharing the personal snap with her 10 million followers, the actress wished Cole a happy birthday.

She penned the most sentimental message alongside the photo: “It seems as if the world would still be a stranger to me, if not for you.”

The actress continued: “I’m so thankful that our paths intertwined to form this beautiful adventure.”

“Happy birthday, my love,” 21-year-old Lili added.

The Riverdale co-stars are far too romantic.

We certainly aren’t the only ones who are swooning over the couple. Lili’s birthday tribute to Cole has received over three million likes in less than 24 hours.

Lili and Cole made their red carpet debut as a couple at this year’s Met Gala, but have otherwise been notoriously private about their relationship.

A post shared by Lili Reinhart (@lilireinhart) on

The duo don’t believe in discussing their relationship in public, with Lili recently admitting to Harper’s Bazaar: “I'm not okay talking about my relationship. I'm not going to tell you my love story. That's just not appropriate right now."

The Riverdale actress previously admitted that she was horrified by how invested people are in her love life, “It is mine. It is private. If a stranger’s love life is causing you anger, frustration or anxiety… please reevaluate your priorities."

Power to ya Lili!

Barry Chuckle, who was one half of comedy duo The Chuckle Brothers has died at the age 73. The entertainer’s manager Phil Dale confirmed his passing earlier this morning.

He told Metro.co.uk: “It is with great sadness that the family announce that Barry passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Ann and all his family.”

The family issued their thanks to fans of The Chuckle Brothers, “They know that they will share in part, the great, great loss they feel.”

They have asked for the public to respect their privacy during this heartbreaking and difficult time.

Barry and his brother Paul rose to fame in the late 80s.

The duo starred in hit show ChuckleVision between 1987 and 2009, making it one of the longest running children’s shows in the United Kingdom.

Paul issued a statement following his brother’s death: "I've not just lost my brother, I've lost my theatrical partner of many, many years and my very best friend."

Pink has been touring the world with her two children, which just shows how much of a true lady boss she is.

However, the singer has had to defend herself when she was papped on a beach, (SIGH).

As if she hadn't enough to contend with between being a mum and a rockstar.

A post shared by P!NK (@pink) on

The star penned the reality of balancing both in the midst of cancelling an Australian concert after being ill and receiving criticism from an unknown publication.

The shot shows the 38-year-old on a beach with her daughter, Willow and the headline reads: "Pink's Sydney Concert cancelled as she chills in Byron Bay."

In a lengthy response on Instagram, the mum told fans that the picture didn’t show you the difficulty she had “trying to do what was best for my children, while also putting on the best and most physically demanding and beautiful show of my life.”

The picture she said also didn’t depict the fact that she had been “sick twice.”

A post shared by P!NK (@pink) on

The singer still managed to be a super mum and push through the first time the illness struck despite her demanding schedule.

Pink explained just how hard the second time around had been and how that snapshot couldn’t have ever have shown fans the truth behind the mum’s life:

”This time, what these parasite paparazzi don’t show you, is two doctor visits in Byron on two consecutive days, antibiotics, steroids, Vick’s, nose spray, throat spray, more steroids, NyQuil, a screaming baby in the middle of the night, every night, while mama gives him warm baths and tells her daughter everything is fine," she wrote.

A post shared by P!NK (@pink) on

Defending herself, she said that she “never taken advantage of anyone” and she mothers “with everything I have whilst handling all the rest.”

To conclude her post, she addressed the cancellation of the show and how her friends came to her rescue entertaining her daughter whilst she was attempting to get better.

"I’m doing the absolute best I can, and you can believe it or not. What they don’t show you in this picture is me drinking water and lying down while my friends try to entertain my seven-year-old,” she said.

A post shared by P!NK (@pink) on

The incredible mum added that she will be going ahead with her show the following day, “whether I’m better or not” and the cancelled show will be rescheduled.

Other stars were quick to comment messages of support for the singer, including fellow parent and performer, Justin Timberlake.

A post shared by Justin Timberlake (@justintimberlake) on

The 37-year-old shared nothing but praise for Pink in the comment section by saying:

"You won't find a harder working, more authentically talented, and more thankful for her place on that stage and her fans than this woman."

"Now…as a parent on tour as well, and an artist who LOVES their fans just as much and wants to give them an unprecedented experience, and is currently battling an injury, a sinus infection and trying to be the Dad I want to be too?? I say HATS OFF to you my friend."

Justin who shared the stage twice with Pink during her tour finished off by wishing her a speedy recovery.

It's time people cut working mums some slack and not be so quick to jump to conclusions.

Get well soon Pink!

Irish Water Safety has issued an appeal for the August bank holiday to prevent drowning.

The summer month is the most popular for open water swimming.

However, this year alone 49 people have lost their lives due to drowning.

Irish Water Safety has advised the public to reduce the risk of drowning by swimming at lifeguarded waterways and within your depth.

This has been the busiest bathing season in living memory, says the water organisation.

Lifeguards have saved 149 people since June 1.

Another 1,189 people received First Aid and 113 children were reunited with their parents.

Irish Water Safety warns that drowning occurs quickly and silently.

Eighty percent of incidents happen in the victim's own county, with alcohol factoring into one-third of the fatal cases.

Their statistics also show that from 109 drownings that happened last year, 84 were male and 25 were female.

According to the water organisation, this is because "males overestimate their skills and competencies and underestimate the risk and danger."

The bank holiday is predicted to be dry and sunny.

Here is how you can enjoy the water safely and prevent drowning, according to Irish Water Safety:

Always swim at lifeguarded waterways, which are listed here.

Swim only within your depth, stay within your depth.

Swim with others in areas that are traditionally recognised as safe. Check to see if a Ringbuoy is present.

Never use inflatable toys in open water or swim out after anything drifting.

When angling or boating: Wear a Lifejacket. Find out what device suits your needs here

Always supervise children at all times near water, this is crucially important as thirty aged fourteen and under drowned in a decade says the Water body.

The advice given if you see someone in trouble is to shout to the casualty and encourage them to shore. This may orientate them just enough.

Reach out with a long object such as a branch or a piece of clothing but do not enter the water yourself.

Additionally, throw a Ringbuoy or any floating object and call 112 for the coast guard.

It's that time of year again…the Great British Bake Off will soon be back on our screens!

So, feast your eyes on the delightfully quirky trailer below that Channel 4 have treated us to.

It's definitely carrying on the trend from the 2017 trailer, where an assortment of pastries belted out Paul McCartney and the Frog Chorus’s We All Stand Together.

This time around, the clip features a mix of sad-looking baked goods singing their hearts out to Christina Aguilera's Beautiful.

There is a chocolate hedgehog cake that pleads “Don’t look at me” and a burnt bake is chucked in the bin.

We're LOVING it.

“Bake Off’s back” is the message that the trailers opens with and this time, unlike like year, the GBBO hosts and judges have put in an appearance.

Yes – we get to see the wonderfully wacky Sandi Toksvig, Noel Fielding, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood again.

According to Radio Times, Channel 4 paid a reportedly staggering £75 million for three years of the show, which nabbed a cool 15 million viewers on the BBC.

Last year’s Bake Off final attracted one of the largest audiences in Channel 4’s 35-year history.

Impressive, wha?

Obviously, social media went into meltdown once the teaser was posted.

Comments ranged from impressed – ''I like the advert – quirky, calorie stuffed nonsense with a nostalgic tune. Very bonkersly British.'' to supportive – '12 nervous bakers awaiting to be announced to the world Good luck to them all. Looking forward to the next series'' to simply plain excited – ''Oh my goodness. This has made my night!''

GBBO has become a telly institution since it launched in 2010 and it has well and truly won a place in the hearts of all it's viewers.

Us included.

One person summed it all up in one tweet: ''that made me emotional I can’t believe it’s been a year already how time flies but I can’t wait for the next series.''

Roll on the end of August and Series Nine!

Katy Perry is officially the nicest human being on Earth. Prepare yourself, this story is an absolute tear-jerker.

The pop singer is currently on tour and had a concert set in Australia, but one fan could not attend.

Little Grace had bought tickets to see the show with her mum over a year ago, but unfortunately, she’s been battling a brain tumour all year.

Her sister, Tiana, immediately took action and was determined to get Grace the concert she had been dreaming of for so long.

“RETWEET PLEASE! my baby sister is meant to attend @katyperry concert in Adelaide this year but was diagnosed with a 6cm Brain tumour and has been battling all year,

“Grace has love been Katy’s biggest fan since she was 3, please help us try and get in contact with @katyperry,” Tiana tweeted on July 24th.

The Internet came to her aid and eventually, the news reached Katy Perry herself.

Just yesterday, the popstar came down to Grace’s house and gave her a private concert!

The Power Of The Internet #helpGracemeetKatyPerry

A post shared by KATY PERRY (@katyperry) on

Katy introduced herself to the whole family, commending Tiana for shaving her head to raise money for her sister’s treatment.

The singer also said that little Grace was ‘the first person’ she had ever given a private concert in their home.

In the video, Katy is seen laughing and hanging out with all the kids and singing her hit song “Firework” while holding Grace’s hand.

Grace and Tiana’s mum thanked Katy and gave her a big hug for doing this for her daughter.

‘The power of the Internet’ that Katy captioned her photo can truly be attributed to the power of sisterhood.

Tiana probably wanted to cheer up her little sis in any way she could, and her constant posting with the hashtag #helpgracemeetkatyperry spread like wildfire.

We wish Grace the best of luck with her recovery and are so glad that she has such an awesome sister and supportive family surrounding her.
