motherhood

The Gavin and Stacey actress shares it all; the good, the bad and the ugly; in her new ITV documentary which follows her journey to becoming a mother for the very first time.

Sheridan Smith is no stranger to a mental health battle, and talks about it openly in the hour-long episode. It follows Sheridan and her fiancé, Jamie Horn, as they prepare for the birth of their first child, Billy, who arrived in May this year.

Not only does the camera follow her along to her first scans and prenatal classes, but it also joins her in therapy sessions, where she struggles to discover the root of her mental health problems.

In the trailer for the documentary, Sheridan describes the worries she’s feeling ahead of the birth of her son. “No-one knows really what's going on behind it all. The biggest worry is you've had mental health issues in the past, will it rear its ugly head again? Now I'm pregnant it feels like I've got a second chance at life.”

“I just hope I’m a good mum,” she insists emotionally.

We believe this documentary is going to be a must-watch for mums and mums-to-be, or for anyone who has ever struggled with their mental health. Sheridan’s journey is so raw and relatable for so many women near and far, that we’re sure it’s going to be a heartbreaking and empowering watch.

The award-winning actress gave us all hope when she described the first time her little boy smiled at her, saying, “[It] was more amazing and emotional even than the day he was born, because you suddenly think, ‘Oh my god – you love me back!’”.

“Suddenly all those sleepless nights and all that worry goes out the window. You look in those little eyes and the love you feel – it's like a connection I've never felt,” Smith lovingly described.

Make sure to tune into Sheridan Smith: Becoming Mum on ITV, Tuesday September 1 at 9pm.

Katy Perry and her fiance, Hollywood actor, Orlando Bloom, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby girl, with Katy’s due date just around the corner. However, motherhood wasn’t always something that Katy looked forward to, she revealed in an interview with People magazine.

“I was really terrified of the idea two or three years ago. It was just like, I don't know how I'm ever gonna do that. That's crazy. I can barely take care of myself!” Katy admitted.

It was during this time that Katy’s mental health was deteriorating, and she was in a deep depression. The 35-year-old explained, “It's been two-and-a-half years of trying to find my footing. It's so easy for me to work, work, work and avoid, but I had to go on a mental and spiritual journey.” To do this, Katy underwent the Hoffman Process. This week-long, personal-development retreat helped Katy to dig into negative behaviours.

“It changed my life, and it's changed Orlando's life and many of my friends' lives. It helped me re-wire how I think about myself and the habits and patterns of why I do something. It's just given me a lot more freedom,” said Katy, who’s no longer afraid to become a mother.

When it came to Katy and Orlando’s parenting techniques though, the pop star was pretty sure who will get to be good-cop and who’s going to be bad-cop. “Orlando's gonna be the good cop and I'm gonna be the bad cop. I already know it! I'm the three F's. I'm fun, firm but fair. That's how I roll,” she conceded.

Katy and Orlando revealed they were expecting a baby girl in April. Perry posted a photo of Bloom's face covered in pink icing to announce the big news. She simply captioned the photo: “It’s a girl.” She also tagged the location as ‘Girls Run The World’.

This is the couple’s first child together. Orlando is already a dad to nine-year-old Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

Life is a funny old game.”

The mum explained that she will find a sperm donor abroad, “You can get it from abroad. Do you imagine some guy from Newcastle saying, ‘That’s my child!’?” she joked.

Clap-back queen and general amazing human Chrissy Teigen made an important point when a fan asked if she was pregnant.

Chrissy perfectly explained to the commenter why asking a woman if she's pregnant can be extremely hurtful, and we love her for it.

Teigen herself had issues with conceiving in the past, and used her last frozen embryo after rounds of IVF in order to have her second child, Miles.

The star replied to the baby bump comment with compassion, but perfectly explained why it's not appropriate to ask questions such as these.

"I know you didn't mean it to be rude, but think twice about asking this," Teigen wrote. "There are people who have trouble conceiving, and it hurts every time."

She continued; "I'm not pregnant but would be happy if I were. But I'm also happy not to be!" she said. The mum-of-two has been praised for her honest reply to a hard question.

Another fan pointed out; "It also hurts when you are trying to lose your baby weight and still have a bump and people ask or think this question."

She's never one to hold back when faced with parent-shaming or intrusion from fans, and we're glad she schooled this fan on the topic of conception.

Adventure Sligo have come up with 14 ways to thrill your Mammy this Mothers’ Day – all tested on their own mothers (or someone else’s!). Some are high octane, some more low key but all make perfect presents.

Your mother isn’t average – she’s special, she’s one of a kind and she deserves a Mothers’ Day gift with a difference. Doing an activity together is also a lovely way to spend quality time with your mother, making memories as you go.

Try these for size:

Have lunch on the hoof
If your Mum is game for an equestrian adventure on the Wild Atlantic Way, then look no further than Island View Riding Stables who have some fabulous Mothers’ Day offers.

Island View Riding Stables is a family enterprise run by Raymond O’Connor and Ursula Schweiger O’Connor. Raymond’s mother, 89 year old Granny Liz retired from riding a decade ago, but is still firmly ‘First Lady’ of the business, acting as receptionist and welcome committee. She’s also a baker of some repute, with divine apple tarts and brown bread a speciality.

How about a glorious, exhilarating trek with your Mum along Trawalua beach following the boundary of the famous Classiebawn Estate to Mullaghmore. If she’s up to it, a gallop along a sandy Atlantic beach is a thrill indeed. After that exertion, it’s time to take a break in the picturesque fishing village of Mullaghmore and have lunch at the Pier Head Hotel before getting back in the saddle to head for home.

As a Mothers’ Day special – it’s buy three, get one free, so Mum rides at no cost if two other paying riders are with her. Cost is €60 per person (€46 for a child). The ride starts at 11.30 am and takes at least two hours.

Go to the seaside with Seatrails
Maybe the Mammy prefers to keep both feet on the ground and if so, this lovely 90 minute guided walk by the sea in Strandhill could be just the ticket. Archaeologist Auriel Robinson’s mother Mary has tried and tested many of her daughter’s Seatrails walks and this is one of her favourites. She lives in Meath but loves to visit her daughter in Sligo, and as a Spanish speaker is a particular fan of the Spanish Armada Trail.

The Mother’s Day outing is on the beautiful Coolera Peninsula overlooked by Knocknarea Mountain. The scenery is glorious and the Atlantic air fresh and revitalising. Your guide Auriel is a mine of information bringing the prehistoric past alive as you walk. Watch out for the abundant wildlife – on sea and shore. Visit an ancient church by the water’s edge – a photographer’s dream.

The walk starts at 1.30pm on Mothers’ Day (meet at the Cannon on the promenade in Strandhill) and takes an hour and a half. It’s an easy walk but there is some uneven ground and as always in Ireland you’re advised to dress for the weather. It costs €20 per adult and €5 for children.

It’s a Grade C hike, described as a leisurely ramble that will allow for mingling, sightseeing and earthy meditations. The yoga stretch is at the peak of the hill, then after a warming beverage and snack it’s back to sea level and reality. What a lovely way to spend time with your Ma.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. It is a day of love and celebration. It is a day where mums get to enjoy breakfast in bed, receive handmade cards covered in glitter and are gifted bunches of delightful blooms to show them how much they’re loved.

It is a day many of us look forward to, but we must remember that it isn’t easy for everyone. It is a day that causes major heartache and upset for people all around the world, for their own personal reasons.

Many have lost their mums, others have poor relationships with them. There are women who have spent their lives dreaming of becoming a mum only to have that dream cruelly snatched away from them.

Bloom & Wild have acknowledged just how difficult and emotional this holiday can be for people and what they’ve done for their customers is beyond admirable.

The florist offered customers the option to opt-out of receiving emails about Mother’s Day. They have sent a thoughtful email to their customers, including blogger Lottie L’Amour who shared a screenshot of their message.

The email read: ‘Want to opt-out of Mother's Day emails? No Problem. I wanted to get in touch as I know that Mother's Day can be a very sensitive time for some of us. So if you don't want us to send you any Mother's Day reminders this month, we won't. Just let us know by opting out here. Then we'll do the rest. And don't worry, if you opt out we'll still keep you up to date with everything else, like normal. Best wishes.’

Bloom & Wild have received heaps of praise for their kind gesture. They thanked everyone for the support: ‘We've been so overwhelmed by the positive response to our recent opt-out email. We just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words and we hope we can make things the tiniest bit easier for some at a tricky time.’

Fair play to Bloom & Wild for thinking of those who struggle with Mother’s Day.

We honestly cannot keep up with the drama between Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson, and the situation has just IMPLODED.

Brace yourselves for this rumour: Allegedly, Tristan has now cheated on Khloe with her model best friend, Jordyn Woods.

PEOPLE are reporting that the mother-of-one is "reeling" after learning the horrible news, with a source claiming; “The whole family is furious. They were blind-sided.”

A post shared by PerezHilton.com (@perezhilton) on

The source continued;

“Khloé found out yesterday about Tristan and Jordyn," illustrating that the entire family are "beyond angry and disgusted" with her, understandably.

Yesterday, TMZ and Hollywood Unlocked reported that the 34-year-old reality TV star and Tristan had split after yet more cheating, but this time with her younger sister Kylie's best friend.

Jordyn Woods is also part of the Good American squad, representing and even modeling for Kardashian’s clothing brand.

Khloe has yet to make a statement on the matter, but she's definitely not remaining quiet. Just one day after she was apparently informed of the news of the Cleveland Cavalier's infidelity, she responded to an Instagram post.

Hollywood Unlocked uploaded an Instagram post about her reported split from the 27-year old, and cheating with 21-year-old by posting eight mouth emojis.

Kardashian’s best friend Malika Haqq also made sure to comment, writing “STRONG FACTS" in capital lettters. Yikes, that sounds like a confirmation to us…

The NBA star tweeted a response, saying, "FAKE NEWS" and denying the report, but later deleted the tweet.

He was spotted partying last weekend in Los Angeles without Kardashian, and rumours began swirling that the pair had split.

Khloe seems focused on raising their 10-month-old daughter True Thompson instead of her ex.

The source for PEOPLE also claims that Khloe has been focusing on herself over the last few weeks, and hasn't been seeing Tristan at all.

“Khloé has acted like she is single for a while. She is focused on herself, her daughter and their life in L.A. She isn’t spending time with Tristan. She doesn’t act like she is planning a future with him. All because she can’t trust him,” the source explained.

“She constantly hears rumours of inappropriate behaviour when it comes to Tristan. She as recently as this weekend heard that he was being inappropriate.”

The scandal apparently comes almost one year after videos leaked of Thompson acting inappropriate with other women only days before Kardashian gave birth to True, last April.
