Now that we’ve waved goodbye to Halloween we can finally start getting excited about the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas is approaching and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it.

It is the jolliest time of year and I’m ready to embrace the festive cheer.

One of Dublin’s best cinemas is hosting a Christmas season and I will be spending most of December there with a giant bucket of popcorn and a never-ending list of Christmas movies to watch.

The Lighthouse Cinema Dublin revealed their Naughty or Nice season today and they’ll be showing a heap of classic flicks over the holiday period.

Get ready to watch your most beloved Christmas movies on the big screen because they’re showing everything from Elf to Die Hard.

You can watch Hugh Grant shimmy around in Love Actually or shudder at Donald Trump’s cameo in Home Alone 2.

This year’s Naughty or Nice season is extra special because the Lighthouse Cinema has teamed up with Sing Along Social for The Muppet Christmas Carol Singalong

They’ll be hosting a screening of the classic family film followed by a festive sing-song and perhaps some dancing if you’re feeling uber jolly.

There’s so much to choose from and something for every age from December 1, every day until December 23.

If your costume isn't even started and the thought of a party makes you cringe – we've got you gal.

There's no fear for staying-in, and since October 31 is a Wednesday, it gives us more of an excuse to get into our jammies straight after work, close the curtains and shut out the world.

But we've got some FAB ideas on how to make this Halloween one to remember – for all the right reasons.

1. Movie Night

A post shared by MAKANAN POPULER & MAKANAN HITS (@laperkelenger) on

You don't have to be a horror fan to have a scary movie marathon. There are plenty of thrillers that won't give you nightmares.

Compile a list or check out some of our recommendations, grab some spooky snacks and get watching.

And with this October weather, the only thing you'll be missing by staying in, is the rain.

2. Pamper Night

Get the bath running, light some candles or burn some divine incense and dive into a Halloween pamper session.

Lush has you covered for all the holiday bath bomb treats, from vegan, plastic-free Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bars, to Monster's Ball Fizzer.

Give your skin an October make over, and scrub away those bad vibes, with Lush's Magic Crystals – it'll have you bewitched.

3. Girls Halloween night-in

If the thoughts of being alone on Halloween is creeping you out – grab the girls and enjoy a night in together.

It's an ideal time for bonding, catching up and you could even try your hand at carving up a pumpkin – plus, you'll all roll in fresh for work the next day.

If pizza, movies or pampering as a group sounds appealing to you – get dialling and organising.

4. Self-care scare

As the end of the year is just weeks away, this is the perfect excuse to take some time out for yourself.

Pick up a journal, and get writing, painting or use any creative outlet you have to look back at how far you've come in the last 10 months.

Set some goals for the remainder of 2018 and make a list of what you're grateful in life for. It maybe simple but we generally don't make the time to do things like these.

5. Family fun

If you've got younger kids in the family, why not offer to help them out with their make up and costumes.

Particularly if you're hella talented with make up, they mightn't be grateful (age depending) on the hours you put in making them look spookatular – but one day they will – (make sure you take 6 million pics – you need collateral for the future).

And you can bet, their parents will be delighted.

Added bonus for this one; you might get to help with their mountain of sweets they bring home and once they go to bed – it's fair game.

No matter what you decide to do – staying in is just as much fun as going out.

Gone are the days when all we wanted to do is go trick or treating on Halloween. If you’re stuck for something to do then look no further because we’ve conjured up the top five events happening in Dublin around All Hallows’ Eve.

1: Halloween Roller Disco:

Get your skates on and spin around the dancefloor with Eleven from Stranger Things, Edward Scissorhands and Hermione Granger.

The annual Halloween party will take place in Dublin’s only roller disco in Finches Business Park, Longmile Road on October 31. Make sure you wear your best costume (and not the backup one you got in Dealz) and you might be in with a chance of winning a fab prize.

Tickets cost €10 and are available to buy here.

2: Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Pub Quiz:

Watching the Halloween episodes of The Simpsons has become a ritual for us so what better way to test your knowledge than to take part in the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Pub Quiz.

There'll be costumes, episode screenings and top prizes on the night. Head down to Hely’s Bar on Dame Street on October 28 and celebrate the spookiest time of year with the best TV family.

Tickets cost €22 and are available to buy here.

3: The Great Gatsby Halloween Party:

Head back to the 1920s and 1930s and party in style like the great Jay Gatsby. Think of the flapper dresses, the fancy cocktails and the jazz music that will leave you twirling around the dancefloor all night.

You can enjoy a dinner and show for a mere €15 at this glorious event.

If anyone needs us we’ll be hunting down the perfect flapper girl dress for this classy event.

Get your Gatsby on at the Purty Kitchen in Dun Laoghaire on October 28. Tickets are available to buy here.

4: Halloween Movie Screenings at the Lighthouse:

Our favourite cinema is screening some of the BEST Halloween movies this October and you just don’t want to miss them.

The Lighthouse Cinema will be showing everything from Hocus Pocus to The Blair Witch Project as we inch closer to Halloween. You can cosy up with some popcorn but make sure you hold on tight to it because some of these horrors will have you jumping out of your skin.

Click here for the full list of Halloween screenings and prices.

5: Heroes from Mars presents The Goblin King Masquerade Ball:

The Grand Social have knocked it out of the park again with this event.

The Goblin King Masquerade Ball celebrates the best of the late David Bowie. You can strut around to his biggest hits like Let’s Dance and Ashes to Ashes, as well as hits from Labyrinth, on the night of October 28.

Fancy dress isn’t essential but c’mon it’s Halloween and Bowie is a fashion icon. You just can’t miss this night celebrating the Goblin King himself.

Tickets cost €13.72 and are available to buy here.

We've never been so excited for Halloween in the Big Smoke. There are so many spooktacular events happening.

If you’re stuck for something to do this Friday night then you need to get down to The Grand Social.

The charity Scoop (Support Children Out Of Poverty) has teamed up with District Magazine and music blogger Nialler9 to bring music lovers a night of eclectic homegrown Irish music.

The line up for Syrias Vibes w/ District Mag & Nialler9 is jam-packed with talented acts including Alfie South & Donkobz, Why-Axis and FYNCH, as well as DJ sets from Calvin James, Phil Long & David Hargadon and 2FM's Tara Stewart.

There will also be a very special guest performing on the night. They recently played a historic set at this year’s Electric Picnic and we cannot wait to find out who this mystery performer is.

Scoop supports doctors, clinics and ambulances in Syria, as well as supporting Joint Help for Kurdistan.

The charity offers help and support to displaced persons on the Iraqi border with Syria.

They have even started a programme at a clinic in Bajed Kandala Camp that aims to work with women coming back from ISIS captivity, and children who have grown up in a war zone or living on the road, always in danger. There are over 6000 women and children living in the camp.

Scoop was established by brothers Calvin and Andy James. The siblings are currently working on an initiative to help tackle the homelessness problem in Dublin.

Tonight’s event is going to be a huge help for the charity, so make sure to head on down to The Grand Social at 8 pm.

We are always in awe of the incredible work Pieta House do. The charity has helped so many people cope with their mental health disorders and overcome some of the darkest moments in their lives.

In October, the charity will run one of it’s greatest campaigns to date. Feel Good Week will bring people together to remind themselves of how good they can feel and raise vital funds.

Feel Good Week will take place from October 20 to 27.

The aim is to help people #FindtheFeeling through a nationwide campaign of wellness, mindfulness, active, social and fun events. All you have to do is get together with your nearest and dearest and spread positive vibes by hosting a Feel Good event.

There are so many different things you can do during Feel Good Week, but we decided to conjure up the top five things that always lift our spirits.

1: Dance it out: Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang shared this wonderful piece of advice with us on Grey’s Anatomy. If you’re feeling a bit low or sluggish and need to lift your spirits then stick on ABBA or Taylor Swift or whatever cheesy music tickles your fancy and just dance away the negativity with your sisters or your co-workers.

2: Breakfast morning: There’s nothing we love more than breakfast food. Seeing a table full of strawberries, croissants, yoghurts, grapes, and pain au chocolat is our idea of heaven. Host a breakfast morning at your office and encourage your colleagues to step away from their desk for even ten minutes and natter to one another over a cup of coffee instead of through email.

3: Embrace the nostalgia: Something as simple as watching The Little Mermaid can spark positive memories so go back in time and curl up on the sofa with a cup of tea and your favourite Disney film playing on the TV. Studies claim nostalgia is good for the mind because it can boost both your energy and spirit.

4: Get outside: The last thing you want to do after a draining day at work is to go outside and be at one with nature, we’d much rather be at one with Netflix. However, even our lazy, sloth-like selves know just how good you feel after spending some time outside.

It can help you unwind and let go of the stress of the day. Why don’t you call up your old school friends and go for a walk along the pier?

5: Host a mystery book swap: It’s like going on a blind date, but with books. Call up your fellow bookworms and exchange your favourite book- but there’s a twist. Participants need to wrap up their books so the cover is hidden.

Think of it as Secret Santa for book lovers. The mystery element helps make it that little bit more exciting.

I have a confession to make… I have seen Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again three times. I know, I know, there are so many incredible movies out at the moment, but there’s something about this cheesy film that I just can’t resist.

Sure, it is pretty cringe-worthy and goofy, but the touching storyline of Sophie and her family trying to cope with the loss of Donna really tugs at your heart strings.

Seeing the adventures of young Donna unfold on screen was really moving and extremely enjoyable because I was madly in love with the three actors playing young Sam, Bill and Harry.

Okay, maybe the main reason I keep going to see this film is Josh Dylan, but it is also the friendship, the setting (take me to Greece now, please) and glorious duo that is Julie Walters and Christine Baranski.

I promised myself I wouldn’t go see the movie a fourth time, however, when I spotted this upcoming event I broke that promise instantly.

The Lighthouse Cinema is hosting a sing-along screening of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again and I will without a doubt be there singing (badly) along to every single word of every single song.

“One of the most popular films of Summer 2018 returns for a one day only Sing-Along event! Not that you'll need any encouragement singing ABBA songs but feel free to give it loads.”

“Get ready to sing and dance, laugh and love all over again.”

The screening takes place on September 16 and tickets are available here.

This is the dream musical event. What else would you do on a Sunday evening other than sing (badly) along to Waterloo and stuff your face with popcorn?

It feels like there is a Starbucks on the corner of every street in Dublin’s city centre. The popular American coffee chain is taking over the Big Smoke, and overshadows the plethora of independent coffee shops that are available in the city.

Dublin is full of unique and welcoming coffee shops that serve rich coffee, drool-worthy cakes and are just that little bit more warming and special.

There is a cafe on Dawson Street that is without a doubt one of my favourite places in Dublin. It’s my go-to place for coffee dates and the perfect spot to relax after a hectic day at work.

The Bestseller cafe is bound to be your new favourite place to drink gallons of coffee and catch up with your nearest and dearest.

What makes the spot so appealing is the atmosphere. It’s soothing and relaxed and reminds me of some kind of quirky library.

The Bestseller feels like my second home at this stage. The staff are attentive and don’t heckle you to leave once you gulp the final bit of coffee in your mug.

It’s a spot in the heart of Dublin that manages to capture the real joy of the city. The stacks of classic novels remind you of the city’s history. The warm mugs of coffee make you feel as snug as a bug. The constant chatter of your fellow customers creates an electric, but calm atmosphere that you’ll quickly become addicted to, just like the delicious Badger and Dodo coffee on sale there.

There is nowhere I’d rather be on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Dublin than The Bestseller. Curling up in one of the cozy armchairs with a book is one of the greatest ways to unwind in the city that has forgotten how to switch off.

“There just aren’t enough hours in the day,” is a phrase we mutter far too often. It feels like we are busier than ever and the pressure to have a lively social life can sometimes take over, resulting in you attending every social event you’re invited to.

Finding the perfect balance is tricky, but it can be worth it and extremely necessary. One thing we should all try to do more of is volunteering.

Volunteering is the perfect way of giving back to those in need. The Me Too movement showed us just how many women suffer from sexual assault on a daily basis. As women we should try to support one another in whatever way we can.

If you’re hoping to volunteer then one very important Irish charity could do with a helping hand. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre have issued a call for volunteers.

They need people, who are over the age of 25, to help with their 24-hour helpline. They are also looking for people to assist victims on visits to court, Garda stations and hospitals.

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre explained that volunteers are extremely valuable to their service. In 2016, their 99 volunteers accompanied over 260 survivors of sexual violence to sexual assault treatment units, to court and Garda stations.

Volunteers will be given extensive training by the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre team.

If you want to find out more about volunteering you can call 01 6614911 or email the organisation.

Visit their website for more information on how you can donate and support the hard-working organisation.

It’s been less than 24 hours since I went to see Coppers: The Musical and I am itching to see it again. Have I been on the Olympia’s website for the past 15 minutes umming and ahhing about buying tickets? Possibly…

I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much from the musical, mainly because of my limited love for Coppers and it’s sticky floors, overpriced drink and love for cheesy pop music, but boy was I pleasantly surprised.

My stomach hurt from laughing so much, my cheeks ached from smiling and Maniac 2000 will be forever stuck in my head.

The show follows the love story between Kerry girl Noleen who moves from small town  Cahersiveen to Dublin and GAA player and clamper Gino Wildes.

The musical features comical songs about working for the VHI and gay GAA players-that will be stuck in your head forever, but most importantly, Coppers will leave you feeling oddly proud about Ireland and our unique cliches.

The cast really won me over, especially Noleen’s hopeless fiance Mossy and his side-splitting performance. They're a genuinely talented group of people and certainly deserve a standing ovation each night.

The show is silly and witty, and serious fans of the theatre may call it foolish, but Coppers: The Musical is full of heart.

It’ll brighten your day and leave you yearning to go to the over-crowded club on Harcourt Street with hopes of finding your very own Noleen(t) or Gino.

Kudos to Paul Howard, Karl Harpur and the entire cast of Copper Face Jacks: The Musical.

Do yourself a favour and go see this joy of a musical. It’s too good to miss.

Copper Face Jacks: The Musical runs in the Olympia until Sunday, August 12.
