Look, we love our dogs as much as the next person, but we've never really harboured any interest in seeing what our offspring might look like.

Because, you know, that's a bit, well, vomit-inducing.

Unfortunately for the viewers of The Late Late Show with James Corden, recent guest, Jennifer Lawrence, actually has considered it, and she's only dying to see it turned into an app.

Communicating her idea to James and the studio audience, Jennifer said: "My idea for an app is an app where you see what you and your dog's baby would look like."

"It's all in the details. It has to be very real," she added.

After revealing that people have actually pursued the idea on her behalf, the Passengers star admitted she wasn't quite impressed with the result.

"They sent me one prototype that's like me with dog ears and a snout and I'm like 'No.' It all about the features," she insisted.

If you say so, Jen.

A brutal image of a blind dog has become the focus of an ongoing online debate surrounding the plight of animals living in Irish puppy farms.

The photo of a grey terrier named Ponda was shared by Animal Heaven Animal Rescue’s Facebook page yesterday alongside a caption which claims the dog only escaped her previous owners because she can no longer produce pups.

“After nine years of breeding the only reason she got out was the fact she can’t have pups anymore,” reads the heartwrenching post.  “Tonight she is recovering at our vets after being spayed and both eyes removed.”

The caption suggests Ponda suffered years of pain while being “forced to have pups” to profit her owners and living in “filthy conditions”.

The Kerry-based charity has called for puppy farming to be banned while posing the question: “Will her face be enough to stop people buying designer dogs for Christmas?”

Naturally, the image of the dog’s oozing eyes has caused great upset among the animal-loving community.

Comments on the post range from genuine upset to sheer anger at the lax regulations which allow such abuse to occur.

“I would love five minute with the people who caused this pain to these unfortunate animals,” wrote one impassioned commentator.  “They’re not fit to be called humans.”

“OMG why don’t the guards do something about this?” asked another.  “My heart really is breaking.  Why are these bad heartless people allowed to do this to a sweet puppy who only really wanted to be loved and cared for?”

Last week, 96 designer puppies – including Basset Hounds, Beagles, Yorkies, Cocker Spaniels and Bichon Frise – bound for the UK market were rescued at Dublin Port.

The pups have been placed in foster homes as they are currently too ill to be assigned to permanent owners.

With sites like Airbnb making unique homes more accessible than ever before, the world’s most creative abodes have never been easier reach.

And since you can already stay in Dracula’s Castle, a Bubble Under the Stars and an actual aeroplane, why not spend a few nights in the dog house?

Bad jokes aside, there is actually a giant beagle-shaped home for rent in the American state of Idaho.

Created in 2003 by artist couple Dennis Sullivan and Frances Conklin, the Dog Bark Inn boasts expansive views of prairie grain fields and surrounding mountains, a library of books and a selection of dog-themed games and puzzles.

Inside “the world’s biggest beagle”, dog-shaped cookies are placed on guests’ pillows, home-baked pastries and freshly fruited granola are served for breakfast and, as you’d expect, visitors are allowed to bring their dogs.

Room rates at the Dog Bark Inn start at €120 per night.

Hundreds of people joined a dog owner for his whippet’s final walk in Cornwall yesterday after an invitation to do so went viral.

Before putting his pet of 18 years to sleep, Mark Woods used social media to encourage people to share Walnut’s last visit to Porth Beach by launching the “WalkWithWalnut” hashtag.

18,000 people have liked Mark’s Facebook post which explains his decision to have Walnut euthanized because of his deteriorating health.

Hours after his final trip to the beach, Walnut passed away.  His owner and friend has since taken to Facebook to thank those who supported him both physically in Cornwall and virtually from around the world.

“Walnut passed away this morning at 11.56am.  The family and our three whippets, Monty, Nelson and Charlie were also in the room,” wrote Mark.  “He went very quickly and in my arms.”

“Thank you to the hundreds of people that attended the walk this morning and to all those that had their own walks with their beloved pets at 9.30am all around the world.”

Those following the movement online have used Twitter to document the impact Walnut’s story has had on them.

“If #walkwithwalnut has done something, it’s restored my faith in the compassion of humanity, in a particularly dreary year,” wrote one person.

“Did our #walkwithwalnut in the mizzly rain, weeping for his family & others who know that pain.  Fly high sweetie,” said another.

An Afghan Hound has become an unlikely Internet sensation after images of her glossy hair began to drive dog lovers delirious.

Tea, the “supermodel” dog from Sydney, went viral this week after her owner, Luke Kavanagh, posted a picture of her lying on a bench to Facebook.

The image has now been shared more than one million times as fans admire five-year-old Tea’s impressive coat.

Speaking of the retired show dog, Luke told Local News that Tea can’t go anywhere without attracting attention.

“We always thought that she was far too pretty to keep at home,” he said.

“Even our weekend walks draw a crowd.  She pretends she doesn’t need the attention, but she definitely loves it, just like any supermodel.”

Since accidentally achieving viral fame, Tea has been approached by advertising companies and has taken up animal acting.

With hair like that, it would have been wrong not to!

People are calling for charges to be brought against a Brazilian man who posted pictures of his tattooed dog on social media.

Tattoo artist Emerson Damasceno claimed he placed the five tattoos on his white bull terrier in the hope they would protect the pet from cancer.

The animal appears to have tattoos of an anchor, knuckleduster and a diamond on its nose, stars beneath its eyes and the LA Dodgers’ basketball logo on its ears.

The Mirror has reported that the man’s girlfriend has defended his decision to ink the pet.

The couple say the dog was tattooed following a visit to a veterinary school in Posos de Caldas, but the establishment has since rejected this claim and condemned the pair’s actions.

Upon realising he was becoming the focus of an online animal cruelty campaign, the pet owner deleted the images and his social media accounts.

Yesterday, we brought you the news that when it comes to stressing out their mates, dogs are clearly up there with friends who insist you need another shot… on a school night.

And while Jack and Archie were once Twitter's favourite pooches, they've had to make way for a dog who got his head stuck in a doughnut… and couldn't be happier about it.

Taking to social media to share an insight into her pet's thought process, Twitter user, Brielle, wrote: "I put this donut pillow on my dog 20 minutes ago and he loves it and won't let me take it off."

Brielle shared a variety of snaps and with 71,000 likes and counting, something tells us that when it comes to dogs and doughnuts, Twitter is fully on board.

Whether languishing on the kitchen floor on posing on the bedroom throw, this dog knows you're never fully dressed with a doughnut.

Commenting on the collage of adorable snaps, one Twitter user wrote: "That went from odd > silly > f*cking hilarious > utterly amazing in three pics."

"My mom's reply to this "Aww! Now everyone's gonna want one. Goes with everything!'" added another.

And then we had the guy who rolled out the slickest dad joke of all time, quipping: "Hmmm…. Dog with a doughnut around his neck… I guess deep down he wants to be a police dog!"

Oh, you!

It is the chance accident that will strike fear into the heart of every owner of a dog: incredibly, a Chihuahua puppy was swallowed up into quicksand while out on an otherwise mundane walk.

Owner Paul Scott was walking his three-month old pet, Dave, along the beach with his girlfriend, Kyla Holmes, when the terrifying incident took place.

He spotted the beloved animal disappear into the sand on the popular Seaton Sluice Beach in Northumberland – prompting a race-against-the-clock rescue.

He and his girlfriend were thankfully able to haul the completely submerged puppy out to safety, with Kyla then later filming Paul using a dog ball launcher to probe the pit.

The footage shows Mr Scott plunge the toy and his entire arm into the sand – as Dave the pup plays happily nearby. It is believed that the sand was at least 1.5metres deep.

The 51-year-old, who lives in Seaton Delaval, described their ordeal: “We were just walking along the beach then out of nowhere he disappeared.

“He is only little but luckily I had seen what happened and was able to fish him out. Who knows what could have happened.

“The quicksand is really dangerous and I am very concerned there is going to be a serious accident.”

Paul, a regional sales manager, explained that Dave “went underneath the sand completely and disappeared. If Kyla had not seen him go under we would not have known where he was.

“He made no sound and he was just gone. He would have just disappeared without a trace.

“Kyla rushed over and stuck her arm in and pulled him out. He had been completely submerged but he was fine. It was very lucky.”

Mr Scott added: “It is concerning because what happens if it is another dog or a young child next time. People need to be aware.”

He later contacted the Maritime And Coastguard Agency, who carried out an investigation into the incident.

Adam Turner, senior coastal operations officer for the UK Coastguard, said: “Our advice is always the same if you become stuck in mud or quicksand – stay calm, try and spread your weight as much as possible and avoid moving. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

“Anybody trapped should also discourage other well-meaning members of the public from attempting to rescue them because without the proper equipment they could become stuck too.”

Finally, Paul revealed that Dave has at least fully recovered from his ordeal. "He was fine," he said. "He just shook it off and went on his way. I think we were more shocked by it than him."

We're shedding a tear.

Ever look at your dog chasing his own tail and think ‘that mutt is a born leader’?  No, neither have we – but apparently in Minnesota canine politics isn’t all that uncommon.

The small US town of Cormorant has elected a nine-year-old Great Pyreness named Duke as its official mayor for the third year in a row after the giant fluffy white dog achieved a landslide victory in the town’s public vote.

According to the Mail Online, not one member of the town’s 1,000 person population ran against Duke in the election and the only other potential politician to earn a vote was Duke’s girlfriend Lassie who received one single show of support – was it from Duke?

Cormorant resident Karen Nelson told WDAY that she can think of no one in the area who could lead as well as the pampered pooch does.

She said: “I don't know who would run against him, because he's done such great things for the community.”

The prized pet first rose to power back in 2014 after he emerged top dog in the town’s write-in vote.  Since then he has dominated the area’s politics with his consistent ability to achieve electoral success.

For now Duke is the only dog in America to hold the title of mayor, but given the high level of satisfaction among his constituents maybe doggie politics could be the way to go.

She’s shared makeup free selfies and had her card declined in H&M and now Adele has proven yet again that – vocal talents aside – she really is just like the rest of us.

How so?  Well, just like us, it seems the star is a sucker for adorable animals as during a recent performance at the Staples Centre in LA the singing sensation just couldn’t resist asking an Irish man and his dog to join her on stage.

Tommy O’Malley and his little dog Casper received the dream surprise over the weekend as they had the opportunity to meet, chat with and – in Casper’s case – even kiss the Hello singer.

But as excited as Tommy and Casper were to meet Adele, it seems the Grammy winner was equally chuffed with meeting them as Casper received a couple of kisses from the star as well as a good belly rub.  Aww!

Tommy took to Facebook to mark the occasion by uploading multiple pictures of he, Adele and Casper along with a treasured video clip of the experience.

We are never leaving our dogs at home again!
