A warning has now been issued to pet owners in the Cork area, after a family dog was attacked seemingly for no reason while he lay in his own back-garden.

In a heart-wrenching post on an animal charity's Facebook page, images of the injured pet were afterwards posted – prompting an outraged response from hundreds of people.

Shared via ArcAnimal Rescue Cobh – it read: "Word of caution to any dog owners in Cobh – it's a fright to God when you can't even keep your own family dog out in the back garden without him being abused.

"Our family dog who wouldn't hurt a fly has been minding his own business in the back garden when some lowlife poured some sort something over him which has been described by the vet as a sort of chemical.

"The holes in his back are from someone poking him with an iron through the fence.

"So everyone please keep an eye on your dogs and if you see any suspicious activity around a house please report to the Gardai! We are absolutely devastated that someone would do this to our dog."

In response, Peta Ireland has also offered up a €2,000 reward for information that leads to the discovery of the perpetrators of the vicious attack.

"It's imperative that any community faced with a cruel and callous act such as this take measures to find the culprit and bring him or her to justice," Peta's Elisa Allen said.

"Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take their issues out on whoever is available to them, human or non-human – and must be caught before they act again."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.

They already have a dog each, but it seems like Cheryl and Liam Payne wanted to have a little pooch together.

Cheryl took to Instagram to share a picture of her beau and their new dog… and it seems like things are really serious.

She wrote: "Our new family member.. he is beyond cute.. the dog is adorable too."

They are really flying along in their relationship!

The Internet is flooded with before and after weight-loss pics but not all get quite the reaction eight-year-old beagle Kale Chips' have.

When rescued by animal shelter Happy Dog Barkery early last year, Kale Chips weighed a whopping 86lbs – that's almost 60lbs heavier than is normal for his breed.

The dog's weight ballooned to morbidly obese levels when his previous owner – who was suffering from memory problems – constantly overfed him.

Thankfully Kale Chips has since lost half his body weight due to a strict diet and exercise regime which involved daily walks and swimming.

The owner of Happy Barkery told the Daily Mail: “He was in a lot of pain and was such a grump because of it."

"There's been such a change. He's reached his target and he's doing great. He's able to enjoy life now."

The Chicago-based shelter – who were previously looking to re-home the beagle – have decided they love him so much they just can't let him go.

They wrote: "He will get to hang with his foster siblings and stay with the family he has grown to love so much."

"We couldn't be happier, in fact I write this with tears in my eyes as this is exactly what we were hoping for."

Well if that doesn't melt your heart, nothing will.

Top Irish model Roz Purcell has revealed that her sister, Rachel, is battling with leukaemia.

Roz currently lives with her older sister in the city centre and admitted that she adopted her dog, Wilko, as it was suggested a pet might help with Rachel's illness.

According to the Irish Independent, the model's big sis was diagnosed earlier this year: “When my sister Rachel was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia earlier this year, one of the things she was advised to do was to keep her stress levels down, and it was suggested to us that we get a dog.

“Rachel and I live together in Dublin, so it made sense because we love dogs and had wanted one for a while,” she said.

Roz also admitted that Wilko has definitely helped Rachel to be more active throughout the day and at weekends.

"Having Wilko has helped Rachel so much because having a pet there really encourages you to go out every day walking.

“CML is a long term illness, but Rachel is very positive about it and has been reaching health milestones since her diagnosis in January," Roz added.

We don't know about you but we think this dog has a serious pregnancy glow about her.

Lilica the dog may have been expecting a litter of five pups, but that didn't stop her from absolutely slaying this photoshoot.

Lilica's owner asked Brazilian photographer Ana Paula Grilla to take pics of the dog in her heavily pregnant state and well, if these snaps don't put a smile on your face then we don't know what will.

"It was amazing, I felt like I understood her completely,” said Ana on taking the snaps.

“She made sensational poses!"

And it seems that the internet agrees as the shoot is quickly going viral.

Oh and the best part? Lilica gave birth to five healthy pups just the next day.

While we're so happy this little pup has been given a happy ending, she literally had to go through hell to get there.

Chi Chi landed in Arizona yesterday to be united with her new forever home and thankfully has a happy, normal life to look forward to.

The Labrador pup was bred in South Korea for human consumption (yes, to EAT) as dog meat is considered a delicacy in certain parts of the world.

And according to ARME, the shelter that found Chi Chi and rehabilitated her, her story is a truly horrific one. (And we mean truly so you may wanna skip over this next bit if you are sensitive to animal cruetly).

A spokesperson for ARME revealed that the gorgeous pooch was kept in horrendous conditions as she was prepared for the meat trade.

"During this time her flesh was believed to become more tender, by binding her legs together and hanging her upside down while being tortured day in and day out. All this was done in darkness. She was beaten and felt nothing but extreme pain and terror.

"She was hung by her legs for so long and so tight that the binding starting entering her flesh. Her legs became so badly infected that her flesh rotted off her bones.

At which she was no longer of use as 'meat,' because her 'meat' had been rotting, and therefore she was thrown away in a trash bag and left to die."

It was then that the pup was found and treated though a vet had to remove her paws as they were so severely damaged.

Thankfully that's where Chi Chi's old life ended and her new, and happier one begins.

The dogs Facebook page saw thousands of donations and words of support allowing her to find her way to her new forever home. And we couldn't be happier for her.

Watch her incredible story below (but maybe find somewhere where you can cry in solitude first):

Salma Hayek shared some really upsetting news yesterday when she posted on social media, telling her fans that her dog had been shot dead on the ranch where she lives.

"I haven't posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart," Salma wrote on Instagram, "who I personally delivered out of his mother's womb. He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart.

I haven't posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother's womb. He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart. I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn't deserve a slow and painful death. #muerte #perro #justiciaporlosanimales

No details have been released about who shot Mozart or why it happened, but as dog lovers, we're hoping his death gets justified.

We love a good puzzle or two, and who can forget the panda hidden with the snowmen teaser.

But now, it's time to find the dog on the bed.

At first we thought it was printed onto the pillow covers… Then maybe it was somewhere on the fluffy blanket… Then we kinda gave up.

And if like us you're stumped too, take a look at this:

Yep, the dog is blending in with the backboard. Good one Internet, you got us there.

While these types of videos are hard to watch, we reckon they have to be seen in order to see the amazing work done by rescue centres in Ireland.

While this rescue dog had a happy ending, not all of them do.

A video released by PAWS Animal Rescue Ireland showed the terrible state of a rescue dog that had been abandoned on a roadside in Kilkenny last summer.

The dog was so scared and traumatised that he could do nothing but cower against a wall as a rescuer attempted to comfort him.

WHAT had made her like this ??? There are some nasty evil Bas***ds out there

Posted by PAWS Animal Rescue Ireland on Thursday, July 23, 2015

"It was clear that whatever had happened to her in her short lived life, had so badly traumatised her, she couldn’t even bare to move or look at her surroundings," read the strongly-worded caption to the video posted on Facebook.

Thankfully though, the female dog named Cara was adopted and swiftly began to regain her confidence and trust in humans.

She even made a doggy friend in her new home and this 'after' video shows all the progress she has made.

Shy?? Not anymore Cara (Angel)

Posted by PAWS Animal Rescue Ireland on Saturday, January 30, 2016

"We have been sent this fantastic video of Cara," says the new proud owners.

"From the nervous wreck she was in the first video to now. It makes us so very happy."

It makes us super happy too.

Ever wonder what your pet gets up to when you let them out for a run?

Whether you reckon they're out chasing birds or napping under some trees, we bet you didn't think they were out running marathons.

Well that is exactly what happened pet-owner April Hamlin who unassumingly let her dog Ludivine out for an afternoon stroll in a small town in the US.

According to 9News, the happy pooch accidently came across local marathon, the Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon run in the neighbourhood and it seems he decided to join in.

Running the 13.1 miles in just an hour and a half, Ludivine came seventh in the race and he even got a medal for his efforts.

And poor old April only got wind of her dog's achievement when she got sent picture of her pet brandishing a medal at the finish line.

Now that is one accomplished pup!

If you're a dog person, you know it's hard to keep you cool even when you see a dog walk by on the street.

So, when this woman opened up a present for her birthday and there was a PUPPY inside, it's understandable that she could just not hold her chill.

We totally get her though. Now, excuse us while we go smother our dogs with hugs and kisses.

They say that cats have nine lives but we are starting to believe that maybe dogs are in fact pretty invincible as well.

A pint-sized dog in the US swallowed several batteries before his owners rushed the 1-year-old pup to the vet.

Boogie, who is a 'Yorkiepoo' (or a cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a poodle to you and me), managed to consume ten of his owner's hearing aid batteries!

Bad dog.

The tiny seven pound dog was rushed to a veterinary clinic near his home in Texas where a quick X-ray clearly showed up the foreign items in his stomach.

This was not the first time that the naughty little pup's appetite landed him in the vets. He had previously been sent to the doctors for scoffing down too much candied popcorn.

We know the feeling.

Batteries are a particularly dangerous items for animals to swallow because if the negative and postitive ends of the batteries touch while being moved, they can burn up inside the animal. Ouch.

This ruled out the obvious solution of having the dog throw the foreign objects up. It also meant that they couldn't wait to let the batteries pass through Boogie's system because the digestive process could break down the batteries and cause harmful acid leaks.

The vet had no choice but to perform a rather risky emergency surgery but Boogie thankfully survived the ordeal and the little "bundle of love and energy" is resting up at home, according to the owners.

Lucky break, Boogie.
