All dogs owners are obligated by law to have a licence for their furry friend, whether they are a house pet or a working dog.

The fees are used to fund welfare facilities through local authorities and local dog wardens. Anyone found to not have one can be fined up to €100.

And now you have no excuse not to have yours.

That's because you can now buy or renew one online on An Post's new website, Licences.ie, and have it sent directly to your home.

Licences are priced at €20 for a year or €140 for a licence valid for your dog's life, and payments can be made by debit or credit card.

So handy, it will make life so much easier now.

Nope, we're not having it.

This is the new Ugliest Dog in the World- Zsa Zsa, a nine-year-old English bulldog. I'm sorry, but that dog is adorable.

When news of this broke, Twitter erupted with a tsunami of outraged tweets in response to Zsa Zsa's new title. Users did not seem to agree with the outcome of the contest and were quick to jump to Zsa Zsa's defence, claiming that she was, in fact, "the cutest."

Agreed.

The proud owner, Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, will receive $1,500(€1300) for the winning the contest.

Zsa Zsa's human is loving the overwhelmingly positive response that Zsa Zsa was receiving on Twitter. According to The Star Tribune, she said that "“She is just so ugly, she’s beautiful."

Preach.

While the dogs are not the most aesthetically-pleasing, Twitter really rallied behind them, showering them with love –  whoever said that lolling tongues, squished faces and hairless bodies weren't cute?!

We can all agree that though she may be a winner of the Ugly Dog Crown, Zsa Zsa is the cutest ugly dog we have ever seen?!

A manhunt is underway as Gardaí in Cork search for a suspect, after a number of shots were fired in the county last night.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, shot and killed a dog before opening fire on a car near the village of Newmarket at around 1am.

The suspect then fled the scene in a 131-C black Toyota Corolla, and it's understood he is still armed with a shotgun.

Reports suggest that no one else was involved in the incident.

Gardaí have focussed their search on woodland areas around the village, and are conducting house-to-house searchers as part of the investigation.

Anyone who has seen the car is asked not to approach it and to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022-31450 or any Garda station.

Thank God for Aragon, the dog!

Aragon and his owner Valia were out for a walk one day, when the dog started pulling on his lead.

Not sure what was going on, Valia decided to follow him to see what he was up to, and that’s when the shocking discovery was made.

There nestled at the foot of the mountain of Immitos was a small black and white box, and Valia got a shock when she looked inside and found 25 abandoned kittens.

“We were walking Aragon near the mountain, actually planning to video on the huge number of animals abandoned there, when Aragon started pulling us towards their direction,” the SCARS volunteer told BoredPanda.

“Aragon is curious about the kittens and since the first moment he saw them, he had a constant need to keep them all together and to clean them.”

Sharing her story on YouTube, Valia explained that abandoned kittens are a common thing in Greece and SCARS is working hard to find them all a home.

“Almost every day [Valia] finds empty cardboard boxes on the mountain (sometimes with the blankets and the toys still inside), but no animals” the video explains.

“Within a few hours since they are abandoned, kittens, puppies, bunnies and even birds (no joke!) become the dinner of a hungry fox (the most common predator on the mountains near Athens).

"This time, the kittens were lucky.”

And it seems like Aragon has taken to his new role as foster dad like a duck to water.

“Basically, he was the rescuer, and he has been an excellent foster dad since day one. The kittens are ready for their forever homes.”

In possibly the sweetest news today, the Queen has adopted a new dog because she "fell in love" with him.

According to The Sun, the dog, who's name is Whisper, was owned by Sandringham's gamekeeper Bill Fenwick, who passed away at the beginning of this year.

And after the Queen took the dog out on a walk, she decided she had to keep him.

"The Queen has always had corgis but she made the decision four years ago not to breed any more because she didn’t want to have a bad fall," an insider told The Sun.

“She was also concerned dogs might be left without an owner if anything happened to her.

"But she couldn’t resist Whisper and now she has asked Bill’s family if she can keep him."

The Queen was apparently very close to Bill, and his wife Nancy, who passed away many years ago.

We'd say Whisper is delighted with his new home.

This is just too much.

Tom Hardy has penned an emotional tribute to his dog Woody, who sadly passed away earlier this week.

In a heartfelt blog post, the actor told fans about his loss, explaining that Woody had died following a six-month battled with polymyositisis – a rare, autoimmune, muscle disease.

Tom had rescued the dog back in 2012 when he was filming his film Lawless in Atlanta, and the two have been “best friends” ever since.

In the post, Tom told the story of the night he and Woody first met, explaining how the Labrador-cross ran out in front of his car one night while he was driving in Georgia with his Lawless co-star, Jessica Chastain.

He then got out of his car and went out looking for the dog, who was just 11-weeks-old at the time.

He wrote, “Jessica asked me was he a girl or a boy. It's a boy I said. How do you know. Erm… I can feel his Woodstock. great !!! let's call him Woodstock!!! And so it was.”

When it came time for Tom to return to London, Jessica's parents stepped in and took care of Woody at their California home until the actor could return to the US.

Tom's wife, Charlotte Riley, also had a close bond with the rescue dog.

“Charlotte worked tirelessly with him to get him through a rough case of separation anxiety. He loved her like his Mum. And when she was pregnant he guarded her fiercely.”

Woody was quite the regular on Hollywood movie sets, and red carpet premieres, and was even named TIME magazine's 73rd most influential animal .

“He beat JAWS. Something we all thought was brilliant. He's been in peaky blinders. Legend everyone who met him loved him. He didn't have a bad bone in his body. All he knew was love,” Tom wrote.

“I don't normally speak out about family and friends but this is an unusual circumstance. Woody affected so many people in his own right.”

Tom finished the heart-breaking letter by thanking Woody for the times they shared together, stating that “the world for me was a better place with him in it and by my side.”

“Thankyou Woody for choosing to find us. We will love you and be with you and you with us forever. Never ever ever forgotten. Your Boy tom xxx”

We're not crying, you are!

So, who said dogs and babies don’t mix?

Research has found that the unlikely combo may actually be beneficial for your baby’s health!

According to a recent study conducted by The University of Alberta, babies who are born into a house with furry friends are almost twice as likely to have two useful types of gut bacteria.

The study, which looked at 746 mother and babies over 3 years, compared the health of babies who had been exposed to pets (70 per cent were dogs!) either during pregnancy or at an early age and those who had not.

The surprising results found that babies who shared their home with a pet had an abundance of Ruminococcus and Oscillospira – two types of bacteria linked to the decreased risk of obesity and childhood allergic diseases.

It is thought that the gut-friendly microbes, which live in both humans and animals, may be passed on by stroking the fur or simply being in the same environment.

The findings are so significant that we may even see a supplement, or 'dog-in-a-pill', containing these microbes in the not-so-distant future.

Anna Kozyrskyj, researcher and paediatric epidemiologist explained: “It’s not far-fetched that the pharmaceutical industry will try to create a supplement of these microbiomes, much like was done with probiotics.”

So, there you have it, babies and dogs can live in harmony after all!

Doggie agility competitions can be absolutely adorable and completely hilarious.

From the uber-competitive pups who take it all very seriously, to the loose cannons who make a holy show of their owners, Crufts Dog Show is always worth a watch.

This year, one little pupper stood out from all the rest.

Olly, a sprightly little Jack Russell terrier, had his owner in quite a flap while he attempted to compete in the Rescue Dog Agility Course.

The pup went totally off-course, running amok and face-planting on the field after trying out some ambitious jumps.

While Olly may not have won any prizes, the Twittersphere loved him, and proclaimed him to be the star of the show.

Dubbed the ultimate tryer, Olly got plenty of online attention, especially for his jump attempt, which saw him land flat on his face after knocking the jump bar off the podium (thankfully he wasn't hurt at all).

Check out his full run for yourself, and prepare to fall in love with the persevering doggo:

There is nothing worse than people who abandon their animals, so when we heard this story about Negao, a lovely lab who was abandoned by his owners, our hearts broke just a little bit.

While it is awful that he was left for dead by his previous owners, his new family are literally saints.

Negao was left at a petrol station in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, and the owners Sabrina Plannerer and her partner took him under their wing after purchasing the site.

While they showered him with love and attention, they were also quick to put him to work at the filling station, so the gorgeous black lab would have something to all day while his new family were working.

"We adopted him immediately and got him all the care animals need," said Sabrina, according to The Metro.

"We bought him food, a dog house, and a leash to take him on walk."

The adorable pupper even has his own uniform at the petrol station, which consists of a peaked cap and name tag.

"Customers love him. Some people even bring him toys," said Sabrina.

You might be wondering what kind of job Negao does at the petrol station, and rather than working behind the deli or assisting at the pump, the labrador provides top notch customer service to those who frequent the store.

The sweet animal greets customers and gives them all the attention they could want while filling up their gas tanks.

We cannot deal with the cuteness.

Hungover? Having a bad day? In the mood for something to put a smile on your face? Look no further.

Because, well… what's better than a man and his dog dressing up in the same outfits?

Topher Brophy is an artist living in New York, and he adopted a puppy, Roseberg, two years ago.

However, when Topher brought Roseberg out on walks, people would stop him in the street and tell him that he and his dog look really similar.

And then, one day, the pair stepped out in matching denim shirts – and everyone went wild.

And from then on, the artist began to dress his dog the same, and took photos to share on social media.

We all love our dogs, and might get them a nice new toy or a tasty bone for Christmas (if they don't pull down the Christmas tree in the mean time, that is).

Emma Buttarazzi is on another level when it comes to spoiling her pooch, and this year spent a whopping €5870.00 on Christmas presents for her Chinese crested pup, Prince.

We wouldn't even spend that much on our boyfriends to be honest, never mind our dogs.

Her high-end haul includes a personalised Swarovski crystal throne for her pup costing a whopping €2346.00, three custom made designer suits retailing at €300 each, and a plethora of toys, beauty supplements and tasty treats.

Emma, who runs a luxury pet website called Glamour Petz, has spent over €23,466.00 on Prince's lavish lifestyle.

“Nothing is too good for Prince and I love to spoil him at Christmas. He’s one of the family,” Emma told the Mirror.

"Prince loves being the centre of attention. He loves dressing up. I like to spoil him. I work hard and this is how I like to spend my money.”

The hairless dog has over 200 ensembles in his custom built wardrobe, and enjoys a healthy diet of freshly prepared steamed turkey and chicken, organic vegetables, scrambled eggs, coconut water, and herbal teas.

That's one spoilt little puppy.
