Working out may be the last thing on your mind when you're feeling a bit down on yourself, but research has suggested that even a small about of exercise can have a hugely positive effect on a woman's body image.

A study published this month in the journal, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, found that just 30 minutes of exercise left women feeling slimmer and stronger afterwards.

Researchers gathered 75 college-aged women who said they were unhappy with their appearance in order to test exercise's effect on body positivity.

Participants were given a questionnaire that asked about their exercise habits, energy and stress levels, as well as how they felt about their appearance and how much they enjoyed working out.

The group were then divided in two, with one half instructed to exercise on a stationary bike for 30 minutes, while the other half sat in a room reading a National Geographic magazine.

When the 30 minutes were up, the participants repeated the questionnaire directly after the workout, and then again 20 minutes later.

Interestingly, the women who worked out showed signs of improved body image in both questionnaires when compared to those who didn't.

The authors of the study reckon that the positive effect could last beyond the 20 minutes mark – although they did not test for that.

What's more, the results could suggest that physically active people have better self image, regardless if there's a change in their appearance.

The study adds to the growing body of research that indicates exercise can have a positive influence on a person's mental health and body acceptance.

So, the next time you find yourself in need of a little confidence boost, why not get that heart rate going?

You'll feel better in more ways than one.

Having a baby is hard enough, without people passing judgement on your body.

That's why Victoria Secret, Candice Swanepoel was having none of the people who were shaming her postpartum body.

Taking to Instagram stories the model penned how people need to 'check' themselves if they have a problem with her body.

Candice captioned the beach bikini snap:

"This is me 12 days after having my son. If you have something bad to say about it… Check yourself."

"Society can be so cruel to one another. Beauty standards are sometimes impossible for women these days. I am not ashamed to show my post-partum tummy, I am proud actually. I carried my son for nine months in there, I think I've earned the right to have a little tummy."

"Is it because I am a model? Well, we are normal people too so let me enjoy the beach in peace please," she concluded.

Posting another photo of her heavily pregnant, the model said:

"I don't have to hide my stomach just because people have unrealistic standards of women. We create life. What can you do?"

"Ladies we are all in this together, be kind to each other," she added.

It's really not hard to find picture-worthy spots in Paris. Any cafe, any bakery, any park will no doubt get you hundreds of likes on the 'gram.

To celebrate Bastille Day, on July 14th, we have gathered some iconic spots that you really don't want to miss during your next trip to the City of Lights.

1. Tour Eiffel

Let's start with the more obvious. If you don't get a picture of the Iron Lady, were you even in Paris?

2. Ladurée

Macarons are one of the most Instagrammable food ever, and when in Paris, a trip to Ladurée feels quite mandatory. We particularly recommend the orange blossom and salted caramel ones!

3. Champs Elysées

The iconic avenue usually hosts more tourists than real Parisians, but you need to see the Arc de Triomphe and appreciate the beauty of the monument.

4. Père Lachaise

A cemetery would not be the first place that comes to mind to take beautiful photos, but Le Père Lachaise is an exception.

This old graveyard has some pretty famous hosts for eternity such as Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf or Oscar Wilde, and the alleys are ideal for a quiet walk in the middle of the hectic city.

5. The river Seine

A post shared by Victoria Chmel (@victoriachmel) on

La Seine is one of the symbols of Paris and taking a "Bateau Mouche" (fly boat) is a must-do activity when in Paris. During the summer, the banks are taken by storm by the Parisians for cool evening picnics.

6. The Canal Saint-Martin

A post shared by Monica Pol (@ams.paris) on

The Canal Saint-Martin is a favourite for Parisians to go for a drink or meet their friends. The hip area also hosts some lovely restaurants, shops and clubs, so you must put in on your Paris bucket list.

7. Montmartre

Montmartre needs no introduction but there is more to it than the Sacré Coeur, its iconic church.

If you walk around this adorable district (outside the famous Place du Tertre), you will feel like you have been transported to a picturesque village, and the view of the capital is priceless.

8. Saint-Germain-des-Prés

The left bank of Paris has a lot to offer and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area is one of the oldest districts of Paris, boasting adorable cafes and elegant shops.

9. Rue Montorgueil

Ideal for people watching, this pedestrian streets holds amazing bakeries (including Stohrer, the oldest in Paris), fabulous food and wine shops, cool cafes and great restaurants.

We cannot believe that it has been over a year since the Manchester bombing on May 22, 2017. Pop singer, Ariana Grande, had just finished her usual stage performance when the suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured 500 more in the audience.

No one could soak in the reality of this rapid tragedy, least of all the victims and their families. The young singer, who had witnessed it all unfold from the stage, had never experienced anything like this before.

Now, a year later, she is still deeply affected by the horrific experience. During a recent interview with Elle, Ariana opens up about the aftermath of the terrorist attack, explaining how it flipped her world upside down.

A post shared by Ariana Grande (@arianagrande) on

She said, “When I got home from tour, I had really wild dizzy spells, this feeling like I couldn’t breathe. I would be in a good mood, fine and happy, and they would hit me out of nowhere.”

Although she felt deeply shaken, the pop star showed incredible strength in the wake of the Manchester bombing, supporting the victims in the same way her fans have always supported her.

When asked if she contemplated giving up her singing career, she responded, after careful consideration, “Why would I second-guess getting on a f****** stage and being there for them? That city, and their response? That changed my life.”

A post shared by Ariana Grande (@arianagrande) on

Ariana told her mother that her first returning concert would be back on the same stage in Manchester, proving love conquered hate to all her dedicated fans. It is through this fiery determination that she, along with other performers, was able to raise $23 million for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

She explained that her entire way of thinking has been transformed. “I’m also going to be a human being who cares about other human beings; to be an ally and use my privilege to help educate people.”

We stand alongside her in remembering the victims of the Manchester attack, as well as other recent acts of terrorism. Like her devoted fans, we admire her strength and hope it sparks a movement that shows that love is stronger than any amount of hate that tries to destroy goodness in this world. One love Manchester.

Poor Caroline Flack.

Not only is the end of her engagement being strewn across the press with seemingly EVERYONE having a say about it, but now the reason behind the split has been made public.

And it's not good.

While Caroline was reeling from the sudden break up, her new ex-fiance was sitting in a meeting with the producers of Celebs Go Dating. Unbelievable.

According to The Mirror, just one day after they parted ways, she posted to her Facebook page calling out Andrew for his shady behaviour.

She wrote, ''when you find out your fiancé had been planning a meeting to go on Celebs Go Dating, and has the meeting the day AFTER you break up. In utter shock. Kill me now."

We can actually feel her heartbreak through that post.

It was reported by The Sun that Andrew had met with producers of the dating show in an attempt to enhance his fame.

Wait, is this coming from a guy who shot to fame on the Apprentice and then CBB? It just doesn't add up. *rolls eyes*

A friend of Caroline's told the paper that she ''is livid'' and we don't blame her.

It also alleged that Andrew is being a complete pr*ck and making the break up “as difficult and painful for Caroline as possible.''

If this all wasn't;t bad enough, Flackers literally just told the whole world via her Cosmopolitan mag cover/interview that she had found ''The One'' in Andrew.

She wrote, '''my life was complete before you came into  it – a man doesn't’t complete your life. But I wanted to make room in it for you. I look at you and I think, ‘Yes, Andrew, you’re the one I’ve been waiting for.’''

Awks.

Social media have voicing their disgust in Andrew, commenting, ''Andrew Brady is a user who will do anything to extend his 5 minutes of fame he just needs to go away. If I ever see him I will clout him.''

Others made it clear that they weren't surprised.

''Anyone with half a brain worked him out on Celeb BB. Complete fantasist, user and fame hungry. A vile human being,'' one user wrote.

Mostly, though, people just wished Caroline well because, let's face it, heartbreak is tough enough without the intense media scrutiny mixed in.

''Poor old Caroline Flack….however Dr Alex is still single…'' one person tweeted  and another said, ''sorry for Caroline but I’m glad her and Andrew are over! He’s a horrible, immature boy – from watching him on celeb big brother, his behaviour was appalling.''

The former couple announced their engagement in April after a whirlwind two months together.

All we have to say is – Caz, you had a lucky escape!

I have been on the hunt for an empowering and honest collection of poetry ever since I read Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey.

Female poets are paving the way in the poetry world and I am beyond thrilled about it. There once was a time when female writers used male pen names, especially during the 19th century, because men dominated the publishing industry.

However, female writers like Rupi Kaur, Amanda Lovelace and K.Y Robinson have crafted such beautiful work that has earned them the respect in the industry that they truly deserve.

I’ve got great news for those of you who adore powerful and honest poetry. Charly Cox has released her first collection, and it is bound to leave you covered in goosebumps.

She Must Be Mad is a moving, raw and brutally honest collection about the trial and tribulations of life as a young woman in this modern world.

This collection of poetry is “for every woman surviving and thriving in today’s world, for every girl who feels too much; this is a call for communion, and you are not alone.”

A post shared by Charly Remy Cox (@charlycox1) on

The sense of comfort and support Charly offers through this collection will reassure the women who are battling through this crazy world.

The coming-of-age collection features topics that will tug on the heart strings of women across the globe, like the pressure to look perfect and the little insecurities that float around in your mind every day.

A post shared by Kat O'Connor (@katoconnorr) on

Charly’s wit will leave you smirking as you read, but her words will also hit you right in the pit of your stomach with the realisation that you’re not alone in this crazy world.

There’s an army of women out there fighting against the dull realities of this silly little thing called life and Charly perfectly captures what life is really like for the modern woman.

She Must Be Mad is published by Harper Collins and is available to buy here.

It has been confirmed that Samira Mighty has left Love Island. She has decided to “follow her heart” after Frankie Foster was eliminated earlier this week.

The 22-year-old dancer was heartbroken following Frankie’s exit from the popular reality show.

Samira originally planned to stay on the show, despite her beau’s departure, but she said being surrounded by other couples was too much for her to handle.

She opened up to Megan, Ellie and Dani about her decision: “My beautiful girls, you guys know that I've had a really rough couple of days here recently and I've been umming and ahhing about leaving.”

“I've not had any connection in here with anyone and I had a little taste of that with Frankie and it's gone abruptly and I think I'd always be thinking 'what if'.”

Samira said she knew she had to go with her gut feeling: “I woke up this morning and I thought it's my time to go, I have to do this for me. I've never felt so strong.”

"This decision is so, so hard. I'm devastated by it. But I think that it is the right thing to do. Just follow my heart because I've never done that before.”

She is planning on pursuing her relationship with Frankie outside of the villa: “'I've always taken the back seat and now I need to go for it head on and leave and just go for Frankie."

Holidaymakers don't fear!

Industrial action for Ryanair pilots is underway this morning.

Despite the strike, the majority flights are still going ahead. (YASSS)

An agreement between trade union representatives couldn't be thrashed out after seven hours of talks.

Check your phone: Ryanair has said any customers affected by the 30 of 290 flights cancelled, have been notified.

Don't worry if you haven't received an alert, you will be sipping cocktails in no time, as you should continue with your travel plans as usual.

Yesterday, the airline took to Twitter and posted a letter detailing the discussions.

It read: "Ryanair pilot union talks conclude without agreement.

"Ryanair expects a strike by 27% of Irish pilots to proceed tomorrow."

Last week, the union representing the pilots indicated that 99 percent of their members were in favour of seeking industrial action after a ballot.

Ryanair tweeted this morning, that they 'regret the decision' taken by a quarter of their Irish pilots to strike.

They said they believe that the pilots should "take up our offer of working groups" to come to a solution.

Spare us a thought when you're pool-side, the Irish summer is back. (Cue internal crying.)

For fans of makeup, making sure the company you're buying from is cruelty free can be difficult.

While as a society we no longer accept animal testing as appropriate, there are still some cosmetics brands who action it.

Penneys PS… Beauty range has just been officially certified as a completely cruelty free brand, so if you're shopping there, you no longer need to stress over the unknown impact yur purchase could have on animals.

The Leaping Bunny mark the PS… collection has been awarded by Cruelty Free International means that the ingredients and manufacturers have been meticulously examined, and found to be completely cruelty free.

Speaking at the Dublin launch of the news, CEO of Cruelty Free International Michelle Thew said that over the last 18 months, Primark have opened up their production methods and subjected their products to an independent audit.

The Leaping Bunny accreditation guarantees that the company have been investigated thoroughly, and have been completely transparent with the ingredients in their products.

It's a guarantee from Cruelty Free International that shopping Penneys PS… range is shopping cruelty free.

'No one on the street wants this to be happening to animals,' said Thew, reflecting on the fact that as a society, we have moved away from accepting the barbaric conditions animals are put through for the sake of cosmetic testing.

'It's time to consign this to the history books,' Thew finished.

In a statement on the move, Primark said: 'Penneys has worked very closely with Cruelty Free International to rigorously audit the entire PS… product range over the last year.'

'The Leaping Bunny accreditation is the most trusted cruelty free certification for non-animal tested cosmetics. Leaping Bunny is the internationally recognised gold standard certification programme that enables consumers to easily identify and buy products that are not tested on animals.'

'Penneys wants to let customers know that they can purchase their favourite PS… products with the guarantee that the entire range has been awarded the highest standard of cruelty free accreditation.'

A post shared by Primark (@primark) on

As well as being cruelty free, there have been steps taken to ensure that the PS… products also line up with vegan ethics.

The vegan boom is well under way, with vegan options making their way out of speciality health stores and into major supermarkets and big brand names.

Veganism is on the rise, as consumers eschew eggs, dairy and meat in favour of mycoprotein and coconut-based substitutes.

The lifestyle also calls for an elimination of beauty products which test on animals, or include animal by-products.

With a huge brand like Penneys making an innovative move like this, we can only hope that other companies follow suit.
