Ireland has been enjoying plenty of sunshine and high temperatures over the past week. The public has certainly been making the most of this heatwave with thousands flocking to their local park and beach to soak up the sun.

Unfortunately, a group of beach-goers ruined one of Ireland’s most-loved beaches – Brittas Bay-over the weekend, leaving the local community disgusted.

Brittas Bay Beach Care shared a shocking video of the beach which has been covered in empty beer bottles, cans, plastic bags an, wrappers.

The video has already accumulated over 2,000 views and people are truly horrified by the state the beach was left in.

One user said: “People are disgusting. Bring your rubbish home or to the nearest bin if the bin is full bring it home. This is just shameful.”

“Lazy, dirty people,” another added.

The team had no choice but to organise a Beach Sweep, which will run from 7 pm to 8 pm this evening. They’re seeking the public’s help in tidying up the beach and one generous citizen has already kicked off the cleaning spree.

The Brittas Bay Beach Care team explained: “We just popped down to see how our beach is doing this morning at 9.30am, to find a beach visitor cleaning up the sand at the South Beach entrance. They had seen the news stories about beachgoers littering and wanted to do their bit, so bought some bags down!”

“They said they wanted their children to see this is unacceptable behaviour,” they added.

The team shared a vital message that everyone needs to remember when heading along to the beach during the heatwave: Leave only your footprints.

Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan and Timotheé Chamalet will join forces again for a remake of one of the best novels.

The duo are set to star in Greta Gerwig's adaption of the beloved Louisa May Alcott book Little Women.

Variety reported that Meryl Streep, Emma Stone Florence Pugh will also join the Lady Bird actors in the remake.

Little Women follows the lives of the March sisters -Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy- and their mum during the Civil War. Their father is away at war and the family face many difficult times, but their sisterly bond helps them get through the highs and lows of teenage life.

The four sisters travel down different paths and soon realise that growing up isn’t as easy as they once thought it would be.

Saoirse Ronan recently gushed about her love for coming-of-age movies, so this will be the perfect fit for her.

She told RTÉ Entertainment about her love of movies similar to The Breakfast Club and Lady Bird.

“I loved things like Rebel Without a Cause and Dirty Dancing. Lots of films that, I suppose, were about a young person figuring out who they were in the world. That seemed to be what I was really drawn to,” Saoirse expressed.

There’s no doubt in our minds that Gerwig’s adaption of Little Women will win the hearts of fans across the globe, especially with such an impressive cast.

We cannot wait to hear more about it!

Love Island fans and psychological experts alike have been speaking out against the lack of body diversity presented on the show.

Fans were originally irritated by the small range of body types features in the first batch of contestants, but were even more incensed after 12 new contestants were introduced – none of which challenged the Love Island body norm.

Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock took to the band's Twitter feed to express her disappointment with the show's lack of commitment to body differentiation.

The singer went so far as to say she wouldn't be watching the show any longer.

With Little Mix's Twitter page boasting almost 12 million followers, we're sure of their fans are soon to follow Leigh-Anne's example.

Little Mix have always strongly promoted a body positive message – rallying around band member Jesy Nelson after she was cruelly shamed for her curvier figure.

All bodies are good bodies, so maybe Love Island will take note.

When you're applying your face in the morning, whether you're a BB-cream-and-go kind of girl or you're more into a full contour and highlight, do you ever stop to wonder why you're applying makeup?

Is it because you want to look professional at work, feel confident in yourself or highlight your best features?

Or is it to 'trick' men into thinking you are attractive? Because that's what 63 per cent of men seem to think.

A post shared by Gem's Blog (@abargainbygem) on

A new study by YouGov found that 63 per cent of men think that 'women mainly wear makeup in order to trick people into thinking they’re more attractive.'

As suggested by the survey service, a percentage of men think that women are 'just thirsty for the male gaze,' which is why we apply eyelash extensions, lip liner and contouring kits.

C'mon lads, we did not just spend an hour and a half getting tiny pieces of mink stuck to our eyelids with industrial strength glue just we we can bat them in the direction of a man.

And even if a woman decided to add a bit of extra effort to her makeup look to impress someone special, we highly doubt it's an attempt at trickery.

Despite the fact that men think women are hiding something with makeup, the same cannot be said of the perception of men with beards.

Only 36 per cent of individuals think that a man with a beard is using the fuzzy face fluff to hid facial imperfections.

A post shared by Makeup Affair KL (@makeupaffair.kl) on

Overall, 43 per cent of people feel that women wear 'too much makeup,' which is reflected in the experiences of women who feel that have been 'makeup shamed' for their full faces.

Famous YouTube makeup artists Nikki Tutorials has actually started a campaign to end makeup shaming among women.

Makeup can give people a confidence boost, which is nothing to be ashamed of, and it definitely doesn't mean women are trying to 'trick' people with their powders and lipliners.

We mean, if a guy really thought we had naturally shimmery eyelids and matte plum lips, then more fool him.

A status yellow weather warning for high temperatures remains in place by Met Éireann until this evening.

The current weather predictions are dry and sunny, with top temperatures of 26 to 28 degrees.

The warmer weather has also brought water restrictions, and Irish Water have announced a hosepipe ban in the Greater Dublin area.

The measures will come into effect on Monday and will last until July 31st.

Irish Water has taken the extra step to use the legal options as demand for water continues to rise in the Greater Dublin area.

They issued the ban under section 56 (16) of the Water Services Act 2007.

The ban means using a hosepipe for watering a garden, cleaning a private motor-vehicle, cleaning a private leisure boat, filling or maintaining a domestic swimming or paddling pool, (with exception of filling them using hand-held containers directly from a tap), is forbidden.

In addition, it is banned to fill or maintain a domestic pond (excluding fish ponds), an ornamental fountain (with the exception of such use for commercial purposes) and use of water for filling or replenishing an artificial pond (excluding fish ponds), lake or similar application, using a hosepipe.

It is understood that Irish Water can extend the ban if they deem it necessary.

Speaking about the legal move, Corporate Affairs Manager and water conservation expert, Kate Gannon, said:

“Imposing a Water Conservation Order is a measure that Irish Water now consider appropriate. It is essential that our water supply resources are conserved if we are to avoid restrictions and outages over the coming weeks and months.”

Reportedly, those who are found to be ignoring the ban could be charged a €125 fine.

Ms Gannon acknowledged the efforts being made by the public and businesses to conserve water.

"Irish Water’s priority is to minimise the impact on homes and businesses, particularly during this period of holidays and high tourism. Local authority crews supported by contractor resources are working to maximise water availability through managing pressures to the minimum which avoids loss of supply. This work will continue and intensify in the months ahead," she added.

Irish Water has rolled out a comprehensive guide on how to efficiently reduce your daily water use.

Northern Ireland has also issued a hosepipe ban, which began yesterday evening.

If you're sick of the perpetually perky manner in which dating websites attempt to match people up, based on likes and common interests, then this app is for you.

An ode the the millennial generation, there is a new dating app called HATER that matches people up based on their mutual hates.

Any app that lets us complain about everything in our lives is sure to be a winner.

From there, you can match with people with similar aversions and discuss your mutual pet peeves.

You can even play a game using your least favourite topics.

Mutual like and dislikes can be deal breakers, I mean, how many times have you felt connected to someone through your mutual controversial dislike?

Be it Westlife on the playground, or gin (God forbid) into adulthood, mutual hates can bring people together.

And it seems like an excellent way to b**** about things that annoy you to perfect strangers.

Summer had finally arrived, and you know what that means – BBQs, beer gardens, and of course, a social feed full of other people's holiday snaps.

Now, whether we like it or not, all flat tummy bikini photos can fill our minds with high expectations and feeling of inadequacy, even if deep down we know they're not realistic.

After all, who hasn't sucked in their their stomach or stood on their tippy toes in order to look good in front of the camera?

And while the girls of Instagram have got this practice down to a fine art, it's important to remember the truth behind those seemingly perfect pool-side snaps.

Earlier this week, Instagrammer, Imre Çeçen, shared a this photo in an effort to debunk the 'hotdog leg' myth.

Instagram: imrececen

In her caption Imre describes the measures she had to go to in order to take the first picture, and to be honest it sounds like a lot of work.

"Creating that thighgap & skinny legs feel was real hard. I had to arch my back like crazy, hold my legs up (serious ab work was involved) and had to sit on the edge of the pool which caused me to almost fall."

She also said she admired the women who actually have the strenght do actually sit like this all the time.

"To people who do sit like this in real life; I admire your core strenght & willpower!"

So, the next time you're soaking uo some sun at the edge of a pool, don't feel self conscious – you're leg a supposed to look like that.

"Yep, that's the truth behind poolside hotdog pics. Truth be told I'd much rather sit like that right pic whilst enjoying an actual hotdog."

You and us both, Imre.

It's Pride, and while most of us choose to use the weekend to celebrate love, others use it as an opportunity to spread hatred and negativity.

Dublin's Panti Bar is an iconic LGBTQ+ establishment, but last night it became the scene of a crime.

One man has been arrested after a brick carrying a hateful message was smashed through one of the bar's window.

In permanent marker written on duct tape wrapped around the brick were the words 'Píteoga amach as Eireann,' which translates to 'Fairies out of Ireland.'

'Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage at a bar on Capel Street at 11pm on 29th June,' a statement obtained by The Journal reads.

'A man in his late teens was arrested near the scene and taken to Store Street Garda Station.'

According to Panti, the man in question damaged the venue because he 'didn't like' the LGBTQ+ community.
