There are certain times of year when buying presents is a necessity – be it Christmas, Valentine's or just that month when it seems EVERYONE has a birthday.

Sometimes your cash just won't stretch far enough, so we've found a few DIY gift ideas – they might take a little extra time but they'll definitely save you a few quid. And plus, who doesn't love a thoughtful handmade pressie?

1. Baking kit
This can be made up for any baking recipe – just weight out all dry ingredients, place them in a clean jar or pretty glass bottle and write out clear instructions separately. Make sure you press down each layer so that the ingredients sit on top of one another rather than mixing together. Add all lighter products first, and place heavier things like nuts and chocolate chips toward the top. Then, simply add a ribbon and a label – done!

2. Infused alcohol
Another very flexible option – choose the spirit of your choice (vodka, rum, whiskey, tequila… endless possibilities), choose your infusions and work from there. Citrus fruits, fresh herbs, spices and vanilla beans are all good options but really you can go wild with this one. Add the ingredients to a bottle, fill with your chosen alcohol, seal and leave at room temperature for anywhere from 1 – 7 days. Fresher items like herbs and fruits need fewer days, while dried ingredients like spices may need more.

3. Bright bookends
This is a really sweet idea for bookworms of all ages. Simply choose a toy animal of your choice, glue to a heavy piece of scrap wood and brush with primer before spraying with high-gloss paint. Allow to dry before spraying the bottom of the wood. Such a cute present!

4. Instagram coasters
These can be made on tiles or on corkboard, whichever you prefer. Print your favourite pictures from Instagram and cut to fit the size of each coaster. Coat the tile or cork with a layer of clear glue like Mod Podge, then place the picture on top. Coat with another layer of glue, allow to dry and repeat again if necessary. Add some foam mounting dots or a layer of felt to the underside of the coaster and you're ready to go.

5. Manicure kit
You can go as luxury or as budget as you like with this. Choose a couple of cute varnishes, a top coat, a nail file, clippers and whatever else you like. Add some cotton wool balls too to fill out the empty spaces. Pop in a pretty mason jar and tie with a ribbon. So simple!

Prosecutors in Australia have dropped the chargers against a 25-year-old Irish woman who was accused of hiding the body of her deceased baby.

The incident happened in May of this summer when the woman was backpacking in Hall’s Creek, Western Australia with friends where she delivered a baby that was either stillborn, or died after birth.

The woman, who said she had not realised she was pregnant, hid the body but days later told her friends what had happened and was taken to hospital.

As concealing a birth is illegal, the woman was arrested but was allowed to return home to be with her family while awaiting a trial.

However, it has now been decided that the charges against her will be dropped.

Oh Miley – you do love to cause a bit of trouble, don’t you?!

The singer’s latest Instagram snap shows that really awkward moment Miley macked onto Katy (who later admitted she did NOT want that!) and captioned it: “Wcw is this sl** @katyperry /tbt (not on t) to that time we made out during my #bangerztour.”

Incidentally, the photo has now been removed by Miley, which is how you know it’s REALLY serious!

We’re sure Katy was more than impressed by Miley’s choice of words and photo.

The two have had something of an awkward relationship ever since Katy joked after the kiss: “God knows where that tongue has been!” to which Miley cheekily replied: “Girl if ur worred where tongues have been good thing your ex boo is ur EX BOO cause we ALL know where THAT [tongue emoji] been.”

Eek – doesn’t sound like Miley is going to forget this incident for quite some time.

Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks took the world by surprise when they ended their relationship of three years last week.

But now, Jason has admitted how he broke up with Jordin – over the phone!

When will people learn this is not an acceptable way to break someone’s heart after so long together?! Unless you’re not going to see them for about a month or you’re an explorer in the Antarctica – just do it face to face!

Of course, everyone's relationship is different but we can't help but feel for Jordin after this admission!

Jason was appearing on a radio show Power 105 when he made the admission saying: “I wasn’t in town. It’s not like you guys think.”

Uh huh, sure Jason – were you exploring the Antarctica? Didn’t think so!

Jordin has remained silent on the break-up, but Jason has come forward numerous times since the announcement to deny rumours: “It got to the extent where it was like I got this one girl pregnant. I was like what?”

Sometimes, after a hard day, all you want to do is kick back on the couch with a glass of wine.

Well, Alfred the cat is exactly the same, except his tipple of choice happens to be beer – from a can.

We are still trying to wrap our heads around how he manages to hold the can so competently!

Our college years and twenties are a time for getting to know ourselves and what we really want from a relationship. Sadly, that means we’ll probably all go through at least one split, if not many more, before finding The One.

Here are a few types of break-ups you’re definitely likely to experience at one point or another – some painful, some just plain ridiculous!

1. The one where he just disappears
You two have been seeing each other for a few weeks, maybe you’ve even gone on a couple of dates and met all his pals. Then all of a sudden – nothing. You stop hearing from him altogether and after a couple of tentative texts from your side (any more than that is excessive!) you decide to just chalk this one down to experience and move on.

2. The one that just ran out of steam
Let’s face it, you were never really into this guy to begin with. You’ve had a few fun nights together, he’s totally sound and makes you laugh but there’s just no spark. Over time the gaps between your meetings become longer and longer until he’s just that lad who pops up on your Facebook feed every once in a while. No bad blood!

3. The one that happens by text
If a relationship ends by text it was probably never a goer to begin with – regardless of who’s the one doing the texting. It’s more of a courtesy goodbye so that the dumper doesn’t feel totally cold-hearted. Fingers crossed that the dumpee has the good sense to take it well and not spend the next few days sending song lyrics and thoughtful pieces of prose.

4. The one where you both know it’s coming
Mutual break-ups can be the most painful. You’ve both come to realise that your relationship needs to end, but discussing the reasons why can be unexpectedly painful. Expect to feel more than a little heartbroken after this, but know it’s for the best.

5. The one that goes on…and on…
This one can be a total headwrecker. First comes the break-up, along with all the tears, drama and re-adjustment, and then before you know it, the two of you are back together and trying to work things out. Which is totally fine until the whole cycle happens again two months later. Just finish it already!

6. The one with tears from all sides
Maybe one of you is moving away for work or college, or maybe it’s just not working out, but either way there’s going to be tears. These kind of break-ups are the hardest as you both end up comforting each other, which can lead to kissing, cuddling and the inevitable break-up sex. Just be clear on what each of you wants before you wake up naked beside each other the next morning!

7. The one where you never want to see him again
Think crying, screaming and possible flinging of objects across the room. Whether one party has cheated or has just been a total idiot, try to keep this break-up short and sweet rather than getting caught shouting at each other for hours about old issues.

Poor Selena Gomez.

It looks as though her whirlwind reunion with Justin Bieber may have already come to a heart breaking end.

The actress has prompted speculation that it is all off again with Justin, after unfollowing him on her social media and posting a cryptic tweet about not being “good enough”.

Photos of Selena’s on-off boyfriend Justin enjoying a meal with model and reality star Kendall Jenner did the rounds yesterday, and it looks as though they may have been the last straw for the 22-year-old.

After pictures and news of Justin’s lunch date with Kendall hit the headlines, the actress took to her Twitter to share a rather sad message which read: “Sometimes we think we aren’t good enough. But then I realize when I think I’m alone I have God”.

She then unfollowed Justin’s Instagram page, giving rise to speculation that the couple may have finally split up for good.

Poor Selena. Whether the break-up reports are true or not, we hope she is doing ok.

We bet Kanye West is cursing the Internet this morning.

A media outlet has only gone and dug up an old blog post that the rapper wrote, in which he admits to fancying Kourtney Kardashian.

Awkward.

The post, dated from 2009, comes from a section of Kanye’s old blog called ‘Girl of the Week’, and features a rather racy picture of Kourtney wearing nothing but a black bra and trousers, posing on a bed.

While the revelation is sure to cause major embarrassment for the rapper, at least his wife can take some comfort from the fact that she also bagged a spot on his coveted Girl of the Week list!

Yes, Kanye has clearly always held a soft spot for the reality star, and posted a saucy shot of her wearing nothing but a pair of black high heels in his dedication to her.

Describing Kim as “an American stylist, apparel retailer, and television personality”, the Yeezus singer also went on to give details of Kim’s relationship history in his blog entry, mentioning that she was dating Reggie Bush at the time. Yes, that’s how long ago he fancied her!

And just check out this cringe-worthy post in which Kanye expressed his "love" of blogging….duh!

We can’t even begin to imagine the drama that this is going to cause in the Kardashian household. No doubt Kanye will be facing Kim’s wrath!

Men might think they're being subtle when they quickly glance down at a woman's chest but it's usually totally obvious. Sorry to break the news, lads!

One well-endowed woman volunteered to attach a secret camera to her chest to count just how many people checked them out as she went about her day. It happened more times than you might expect – and it wasn't only men! Lots of females, a child and even a dog all stopped to take a cheeky look. 

The video is actually part of a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign by Nestlé encouraging us ladies to check out our own breasts from time to time, too – a pretty good cause, we reckon!

Those One Direction lads can do no wrong!

The guys did a really sweet favour for a man by helping him propose to his girlfriend at their show in Atlanta last night.

Bradley Chisenhall chose the, er, intimate, setting of the gig to pop the question to his girlfriend, and decided to send out a tweet to Niall and co. to help him out with the exciting task.

“Help me propose to my girlfriend tomorrow night at the show,” Chisenhall wrote, tagging all the 1D boys in the message.

And how could they possibly refuse?

Fast forward to the big night, and the lovely Harry was inviting Bradley up on stage for his big moment!

Actress Shailene Woodley has become the latest Hollywood actress to go blonde, ditching her brunette locks for a stunning platinum look.

The Divergent star showed off her new style at the Miu Miu show in Paris. We love the darker roots, too!

The 22-year-old has been going progressively lighter with her hair colour since the summer, when she first showed off a golden brown hue at the Met Gala, but this new style is her boldest yet.

Shailene famously cried when she had her her chopped off last August for her role in The Fault in Our Stars. Despite her initial worries though, the actress says she really came around to her shorter hair.

"I love it. It’s so easy," she said in an interview. “Not having hair, the lack of hair, even the weight on your head, reveals so much about your body’s chemistry I cannot even tell you." Deep!

We can imagine it was a big shock going from long wavy locks to a gamine pixie cut, but we think it was definitely a great style move!

Uh-oh. It looks like Khloe and Rob Kardashian are paying the price for quite an embarrassing joke-gone-wrong.

With their every word and movement under the constant scrutiny of their dedicated army of followers, they were never likely to get away with their latest joke about incest.

Rob kicked things off by naming sister Khloe as his Woman Crush Wednesday, sharing a split photo of her from the front and back wearing a pair of rather revealing leggings. His tweet, which to be fair was intended as a joke, read: “#WCW @khloekardashian shneeeeee meeeee claaaaaa.”

Khloe then decided to get in on the banter, sharing Rob’s photo and writing: “Totally a normal brother/sister relationship. Incest is best!!! #HeyBooHey”.

The siblings, who have previously lived together and are known for their close relationship, were clearly just having some innocent banter, but it looks as though their fans did not appreciate it!

Indeed, their joke garnered criticism across Twitter and Instagram, with one user writing: “Ew if my brother ever talked about me the way Rob does about Khloe I’d throw up”, with another user branding them “incest freaks”.

True to form, Rob and Khloe have not removed the posts, and are probably having a great big laugh over the situation.
