The Fault in Our Stars

by

Cara Delevingne has been appearing on the catwalks less and less lately, with only one appearance at the recent Paris Fashion Week.

Now it's clear where she's been hiding though – as the first official trailer for her new film Paper Towns has just been released.

Based on the book by The Fault In Our Stars author John Green, Paper Towns stars Cara as the enigmatic and unavailable Margo, who has always been the object of her neighbour Quentin (Nat Wolff)'s affection.

Aside from a small part in Anna Karenina back in 2012, this is Cara's first time on the big screen, but with five other movies also in production at the moment, it looks like we'll be seeing more and more of Cara in our cinemas!

Now, we know many of you will be flocking to the cinema to see Fifty Shades of Grey this Valentine’s Day – however, we have movies for those who aren’t into that kind of thing too.

These movies are classics; both modern and old and are good enough to watch alone and not feel lonely.

You don't have to have a Valentine to appreciate the day of love y'know! After all, as long as hot water bottles exists, who REALLY needs a fella?

Romeo + Juliet
Baz Luhrmann's take on Romeo + Juliet will go down in history as one of the greats. Making it modern and with a serious soundtrack, you'll find yourself wondering why Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio didn't end up together in real life…

10 Thing I Hate About You
Any excuse to see Heath Ledger's performance as Patrick is fine by us! This movie is based (loosely of course!) on The Taming Of The Shrew and all of the characters are so well thought out. Not to mention the epic love story between Kat and Patrick.

Casablanca
Such a romantic classic – if you haven't seen this yet then you NEED to get on it. Made in 1942 and starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart, the movie is responsible for classic quotes such as "We'll always have Paris" and "Here's lookin' at you, kid". Oh the heartbreak!

The Notebook
Oh come on, how could we leave it out?! Allie and Noah's love story started in a book by Nicholas Sparks before being immortalised on screen by Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. Since then the movie has become a staple romantic film and we reckon it could be a classic in years to come.

Pretty Woman
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts were the face of early Nineties romance after this movie's release in 1990. That fire escape scene though…

Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen's classic novel was taken to screens countless times; in a mini series with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and again in a 2005 movie with Matthew McFayden and Keira Knightley in the title roles. Mr. Darcy will always be the ultimate heartthrob and Elizabeth Bennett the heroine.

Titanic
Jack and Rose, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet respectively, are the star-crossed lovers of the "unsinkable" ship. All we'll say on this one is: she could have moved over.

An Affair to Remember
Often old movies don't appeal to our generation, however with An Affair to Remember, prepare to feel as if Cary Grant is personally breaking your heart…

The Fault In Our Stars
A movie adapted from the book by John Green of the same name; Hazel and Augustus Waters' love story in the face of unthinkable heartbreak will reduce you to tears pretty quickly.

When Harry Met Sally
Does it get any more classical than the modern love between Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal? No, it doesn't! The best line? "I'll have what she's having."

It looks like it’s true love for The Fault In Our Stars actor, Ansel Elgort and his dancer girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan with this sweet news! Despite a break-up five months ago, the cute couple have been spotted together with a source telling US magazine that it is back on.

Ansel and Violetta called an end to their relationship in August due to busy schedules and being apart a lot. At the time, Ansel was doing press tours for both FIOS and Divergent.

A source for the magazine said that he hadn’t been seeing anyone else during the break: “They just missed each other. He didn’t really see anyone else seriously while they’re were split.”

It is reported that despite the break-up, the young couple were in contact the whole time and so things seem to have just fallen back into place.

Since his appearance in The Fault In Our Stars opposite Shailene Woodley, Ansel has been experiencing a lot of female attention, and many of his fans are sure to be disappointed by this latest news!

Ansel and Violetta have been a couple ever since meeting at New York's prestigious performing arts school, LaGuardia High School.

Actress Shailene Woodley has become the latest Hollywood actress to go blonde, ditching her brunette locks for a stunning platinum look.

The Divergent star showed off her new style at the Miu Miu show in Paris. We love the darker roots, too!

The 22-year-old has been going progressively lighter with her hair colour since the summer, when she first showed off a golden brown hue at the Met Gala, but this new style is her boldest yet.

Shailene famously cried when she had her her chopped off last August for her role in The Fault in Our Stars. Despite her initial worries though, the actress says she really came around to her shorter hair.

"I love it. It’s so easy," she said in an interview. “Not having hair, the lack of hair, even the weight on your head, reveals so much about your body’s chemistry I cannot even tell you." Deep!

We can imagine it was a big shock going from long wavy locks to a gamine pixie cut, but we think it was definitely a great style move!

A good book, and we mean a REALLY good book, is a rare find.

When you reach the last page of a really gripping novel, it’s always a little bit devastating that you’ll never read it again for the first time. That’s why it can be really exciting when you find out your favourite book is being turned into a film.

Some book-to-film adaptations are spot-on: great movies in their own right but also totally faithful to the original material. Others… not so good. Cringey accents *cough* PS I Love You *cough*, giant plot holes and, the worst of all, changed endings. NO.

Here are some of the movies that got it right, thank God…

1. The Harry Potter series
J.K. Rowling’s creation became one of the publishing world’s biggest success stories, so it’s understandable that the Harry Potter series would become the most talked about movie franchise of all time. We admit that the earlier films don’t QUITE hit the mark but from The Prisoner of Azkaban onward, we were hooked. We challenge you not to cry for 90% of the last two films. Just the word “Dobby” is still enough to bring a lump to our throat…

2. The Notebook
Call it cringey, call it cheesy, but The Notebook is still our go-to love story! The book itself is quite short, so nothing is cut out in the film which we love. And let’s face it, the addition of Ryan Gosling didn’t do any harm either!

3. The Fault In Our Stars
This young adult novel had a huge cult following among readers of all ages, so the film was definitely put under heavy scrutiny when it was released. But author John Green was so happy with how the screenwriters adapted his work, that he asked them to work with him on upcoming adaptations of his other books, Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska. The film is a total tearjerker and really does remain faithful to Green’s writing.

4. Bridget Jones’ Diary
Just like the book, the film version of Bridget Jones was funny, realistic and a little bit tongue-in-cheek. Renée Witherspoon was a controversial choice for singleton Bridget but she definitely made the part her own, gaining over two stone for the film . As for Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, they were already well used to the rom-com genre!

5. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Author Stieg Larsson died when his books were still unpublished, so he never knew of their success, let alone of a film adaptation. A Swedish movie version of the first book in the three-part series was released in 2009, with a higher-budget English version following in  2011. Both get the thumbs up from us – dark, sinister thrillers that totally capture the essence of the book.

UK model Cara Delevingne seems to be everywhere at the moment and it looks like she’s only getting bigger!

Last week the actress spoke about her small role in The Face of An Angel, based on the story of Amanda Knox.  Now though, she’s been announced as the lead in what is set to be a huge film for 2015. She’ll be playing the role of Margo in Paper Towns, based on the book by John Green – author of the young adult favourite, The Fault In Our Stars.

The Fault In Our Stars made huge waves at the box office when the film adaptation was released earlier this year, and we bet Paper Towns will be no different. Exciting!

The plot of the book centres on Cara’s character, who runs away from home, leaving clues behind to lead her lovesick friend Quentin to her hiding place. Nat Wolff, who played Isaac in The Fault In Our Stars, will play the besotted Quentin.

Author John Green tweeted his excitement at the casting news earlier today:

And Cara seemed equally elated in her reply to director Jake Schreier!

Cara has had a few breakout roles so far – she starred in the 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina, and next year she will appear alongside Hugh Jackman and Amanda Seyfried in Pan. And that's all on top of strutting the catwalk for Chanel and being the face of both Topshop and Burberry. Talk about a high achiever!

The iconic bench where Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort shared a kiss in The Fault In Our Stars has vanished into thin air.

The bench is usually located along the canal in Amsterdam, and city officials haven’t a clue where it’s gone. The mystery has led to a parody Twitter account for the bench being created, of course, though it’s about as funny as you would expect a plank of wood to be.

The bench has been replaced by a very nice flower pot, and city officials say a new bench will be installed later this month.

There must be some pretty big TFIOS fans out there!

Ansel Elgort received threats on Twitter after he was cast in The Fault in Our Stars.

Yikes!

The actor plays the male lead in the adaptation of John Green’s novel, and diehard fans were quick to send him a very clear message.

Ansel plays the character of Augustus Waters who falls in love with Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) after they meet at a cancer support group.

Ansel said, ”I read the book and realised how much it meant to me. After I was cast, I got a flood of people mentioning me on Twitter and saying ‘If you mess up Augustus Waters I will kill you’ and all this stuff.”

“There are millions of people – look at John Green followers – who are obsessed with this story … this book is much more important than the idea of it becoming a movie and movie stars, its about the book [to the fans],” said the actor.

What a brave guy!

The tearjerker, The Fault In Our Stars, may have just hit cinema screens in America today but Shailene Woodley is already being tipped with a possible Oscar win, thanks to her performance in the film.

Critics have praised the film adaption of John Green’s hit book especially Shailene who plays the lead, Hazel Grace, in the film.

Forbes magazine said that the film is a “generational classic” and Woodley’s acting in the film “would be an Oscar contending-performance if the film were considered more prestigious”.

That’s the not only critic to tip Shailene for the academy awards as Hollywood News have already put her under their hot contenders for a 2015 Best Actress, calling her portrayal of TFIOS Hazel Grace the “best performance of her career.”

Well with these reviews, it looks likely that Shailene could be on the nomination list for the 2015 Oscars. Watch out JLaw!
