Monthly Archives: March 2018

So, the snow is pretty much a distant memory, and we can all start getting excited about Summer.

The sun, the holidays, the cocktails… but most importantly – the CLOTHES.

No more heavy jumpers and rain jackets (well, almost), when the summer arrives we'll have a chance to wear dresses, sandals and all the good stuff.

However, as we all know, Summer in Ireland lasts approximately 6 days, so we can't justify spending a fortune on sun-friendly fashion.

Thankfully, we have Penneys, a genuine gift from God.

Anyway, they have given us a sneak preview of their High Summer 2018 collection, and it is FABULOUS.

Have a look, and let us know your thoughts:

So, whether you're living abroad or just know someone who is, you'll know how much we Irish love our home comforts.

From comforting cups of Barry's tea and buttery Tayto sandwiches, to Friday night pints and our self-deprecating banter, we there are some things that just can't be replicated when we're away from home.

And with St. Patrick's Day fast approaching, many Irish living abroad have been hit with a serious case of home sickness.

But not to worry – this year, The Paddy Box, a company that ships all our favourite treats to expats in Australia, Canada and USA, has added two special packages specially designed for those missing home during the festivities.

Jam-packed with Irish treats that represent these two national holidays and are sorely missed by those living away at the time of these occasions, both the 'Paddy's Day Box' and 'Easter Box' encapsulates our unique Irish culture and affection for local products.

From Paddy’s Day hats, Irish face paint, Irish flags, to Irish slang books and tea towels with Irish mammy quotes, the ‘Paddy’s Day Box’ has everything to allow Irish abroad feel like they are back at home on March 17th. The package also includes the Irish food essentials missed by everyone, such as Tayto crisps, Cadbury Dairy Milk, Barry’s Tea and Ballymaloe relish.

Chockfull of Irish chocolate, the 'Easter Box' includes two Cadbury medium Easter eggs, a Cadbury crème egg five pack, Cadbury mini egg pack, a Butlers Chocolate Bunny, Jacobs Elite Teacakes, Cadbury Purple Snacks 6 pack and more.

To celebrate the launch, The Paddy box conducted their own research on the likes, interests and cravings of Irish currently living abroad – and basically, we're all just one bug stereotype.

Unsurprisingly, Tayto Cheese and Onion crisps are the most missed food item of Irish living abroad, followed second by Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, third by Barry's Tea, fourth by Ballymaloe Relish and fifth by McDonnell's Curry Sauce.

What's more, 85 per cent of respondents said they miss Ballymaloe Relish more than their in-laws.

When asked what they would do if they were flown to Ireland for one day only, 58 per cent said they would go to Penneys, 56 per cent said they would have a Tayto sandwich and a cup of Barry's Tea, 33 per cent would visit their grandparents, 74 per cent would spend time with their parents and 23 per cent would attend a GAA match.

Oh and the most missed dinner is ‘Mum’s Sunday Roast’ – obviously.

Through the website (www.thepaddybox.com) people can choose from a range of pre-packed, individually themed, 10 item boxes, or choose to make their own custom 10 item box, tailoring them specifically for someone they love. Boxes start from €49.95 and go up to €59.95. The Paddy Box team hand pack each gift box, input personal notes and ‘ship with Grá’ anywhere in the world.

Easter is well and truly on the way, and we're so ready to feast on chocolate eggs and hot cross buns.

However, Easter is also the perfect opportunity to drink and relax.

That sweet, sweet Bank Holiday, lads.

Anyway, your beverage of choice this year will probably be hot cross bun flavoured gin… because its festive.

Yep, this new offering from Gin Tales at Not On The Highstreet might be just what you need for the Easter holidays.

The gin experts have created this delicious hot cross bun infusion of the juniper based drank, which matches perfectly with the usual tonic, ice and fruit.

According to the website, the gin is 'a beautiful gin infusion with citrus, sultanas and Easter spices'

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to weird and wacky beauty trends.

From non-surgical tummy tucks to vampire facials, the reality star has helped put many procedures on the map – but we're going to go out on a limb and say that this latest treatment is the most bizarre yet.

On Sunday, Kim shared a video with her Snapchat followers that showed her getting a 'firming and tightening' facial.

Now, on first thought this sounds like a luxury soothing spa treatment, but oh no, that could not be farther from the truth.

Complete with robotic-like headgear, that wouldn't look out of place in a futuristic science fiction film, the star documented the entire process from start to finish.

What started as a rejuvenating beauty treatment, ended with what looks like some sort of facial clamp and a lot of probing around the chin area.

We're not sure that we're entirely convinced by this one, but hey, if it's good enough for Kim…

In recent years, we have seen so many bizarre hair trends, from rainbow hair to unicorn hair, and we loved all of them.

50 shades of… Ah, you know. @mizzchoi, mega babe & magician #greyhair #greyombre #summerhair #hair

HOWEVER, while these mad trends were very cool and Insta-worthy, we wouldn’t be brave enough to try them.  Gigi Hadid is the doyenne of all things hair so it’s not surprising that she has tried balayage and looked amazing.

That is why this latest hair trend has us all excited… because it looks gorgeous on literally EVERYONE.

Ash balayage is doing the rounds on Instagram at the moment, and starts as any normal balayage hair colour would—with dark-toned roots.  Now don’t be confused, it’s a completely different colour to the original blond balayage which celebs like Blake Lively embraced particularly during her pregnancy.

The hair colour shifts towards a lighter, ashy blonde colour, until gradually fading out into a greyish/silver shade.

Whilst this DEFINITELY one our favourite hair trend of 2018 so far we still can’t help but love the original brown balayage trend.

It is ash-aloutley fabulous.

There’s something so empowering about the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon. Thousands of women gather together to run, jog, walk or crawl for 10 km to help deserving charities.

The event becomes more and more popular as the years go by, with women showing up with their mums, sisters, daughters, aunties and friends and rocking their finest runners and their charity t-shirts with great pride.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland is hoping more women will join their team this year to help raise much-needed funds for the charity.

Famous faces including RTÉ’s Evanne Ní Chuilinn, actor Denise McCormack, beauty blogger Karen Constantine and rugby ace Louise Galvin have joined Cystic Fibrosis Ireland’s “One in 1,000” rallying call for this year’s VHI Women’s Mini-Marathon.

The girls are hoping to gather up 100 teams of 10 people to make up a total of 1,000 women taking part in the mini-marathon on Sunday, June 3 on behalf of the charity.

This year’s event will take place on a Sunday rather than Bank Holiday Monday. Organisers are confident that the event will attract even more support than ever.

Supporters are being urged to do whatever is necessary to cajole, sweet-talk and charm the socks off friends and family to create their own teams in reaching the magic 1,000 target!

You don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to take part in the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon. The mini-marathon takes place over a ten-kilometre course and is open to women of all levels of fitness, with participants having the options of running, jogging or simply walking the route.

The minimum age to enter as a walker, jogger or fast jogger is 14 years of age, while for a runner or elite runner, it is 18 years.

RTÉ’s Evanne Ní Chuilinn said, “Of course, you don’t have to be Sonia O’Sullivan to take part – women of all fitness levels and none are welcomed with open arms. It really is the taking part that counts on mini-marathon day and the atmosphere is just electric.”
The VHI Women’s Mini Marathon is the largest all-women event of its kind in the world and represents Cystic Fibrosis Ireland’s biggest annual fundraising campaign.

Almost all funding for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland’s services comes from public donations. It's One in 1,000 campaign has a fundraising target of €100,000 for vital services for people with cystic fibrosis including patient grants for supports such as counselling, home exercise equipment, fertility treatment and transplant assessment.

Signing up for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland’s One in 1,000 campaign is easy – simply call Rachel on LoCall 1890 311 211, email fundraising@cfireland.ie or visit onein1000.ie.

Entries for the VHI Women's Mini Marathon will open 7th March 2018 at 11 am.

Boston is like a home away from home for me as I tend to pay it a visit at least once a year!

It is a city like no other to be honest, with so much going on, while also seeming calm and serene.

It has all of the benefits of the hustle and bustle of a large city, but there's a sort of 'village vibe' to it at the same time.

Amazing!

Anyway, if you're lucky enough to be heading across the Atlantic to Boston, you will absolutely have to enjoy at least one amazing brunch.

So, for you, I have come up with a list of the most divine brunch spots in Boston…

1. Abe & Louie's

The all-American brunch at Abe & Louie's has eggs in every form: omelettes, steak and eggs, or even with crab cakes (we highly recommend the crab, FYI). Not really an egg gal? Well, there are also sandwiches, salads, seafood and so many other delicious options.

Have to try: The Boylston Breakfast (we're drooling at the thought!) It comes with three eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast … so basically their own twist on a full Irish! Oh, and if you're feeling fancy, give the lobster omelette a whirl, it is outrageous.

There’s nothing a good brunch cant fix. Especially ours. (served Saturday and Sunday)

2. The Beehive

The Beehive serves what it describes as 'simple, satisfying, and generous comfort food'. Their amazing kitchen creates scrumptious, moderately-priced fare, with rustic influences from the Middle East, Eastern Europe and America. Oh, and if the food hasn't sold you… Sunday brunch at The Beehive often comes with a side of jazz.

Have to try: the chicken fried steak, it's a real authentic taste of the Deep South!

3. Lincoln Tavern & Restaurant

If you have a sweet tooth, then this is the spot for you! Lincoln Tavern offers all the delicious brunch treats, like pancakes and waffles, along with the savoury classic. The best part? They don't just do brunch at the weekend, they have a delightful weekday brunch menu! So let's chow down.

Have to try: the fruity pebble pancakes AND the pumpkin pancakes… because when in doubt, order both!

4. Mike's City Diner

This is one of those quintessential American Diners that everyone just needs to visit and enjoy! They serve a massive breakfast and brunch menu all day long, with seriously massive portions (seriously, you'll leave FULL!) The best part? The prices are so reasonable, so you'll be able to go all out and order everything that you want!

Have to try: Mike's famous pilgrim sandwich. WOW!

5. Maggiano's

So this is (in my humble opinion) one of the most delicious Italian restaurants in Boston, but their brunch is damn good also. The offer all the wonderful classics, like pancakes, French toast and eggs in all forms. However, they have some pretty unique dishes also, such as the Italian sausage frittata – so good.

Have to try: the meatball eggs benedict, the most amazing twist on a brunch classic… you won't regret it!

A toast to French Toast, for making hearts warmer and bellies happier!

Khloé Kardashian has revealed the gender of her first child, and the mum-to-be couldn’t be happier.

She took to Twitter where she made the grand announcement, following a special episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

She wrote, “I am now so excited my daughter will have forever best friends with Chicago and Stormi!! God is great!!! Thank you, Lord, for our princess.”

The Kardashians will be welcoming another darling girl into their family in a matter of weeks. We are thrilled for Khloé, and her boyfriend Tristan.

In the last two months, the family have welcomed two girls- Kim Kardashian West’s daughter Chicago and Kylie Jenner's daughter Stormi.

Kim responded to her sister's big news with a touching tweet, "Three besties for life!!!"

However, the doting pair has yet to pick out a name for their baby who is due in the springtime.

Khloé admitted that she knew the name if she was going to have a baby boy, however, the mum is clueless about what to call her little girl.

We wonder if she’ll follow the famous Kardashian ‘K’ trend, or will she stray away and go with something completely different.

It's safe to say Khloé's baby girl will be well looked after when they welcome her into the world in the next few weeks.

We cannot wait to find out what name they'll choose!
