Richard Madden

It's been a long time coming, but Marvel have finally unleashed the second phase of the MCU and it's diverse AS F*CK. We're in heaven.

One of the best snippets of superhero news we've heard from Comic Con (apart from Natalie Portman as female Thor, that slayed us) is the first openly LGBTQ+ hero arriving to the party.

Fan-fave character Valkyrie, played by the incredible Tessa Thompson, will have an LGBTQ+ storyline in the fourth Thor movie, due out November 2021.

The character is bisexual in the comics, and was portrayed by the actress in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame.

Thor: Love and Thunder will feature Chris Hemsworth as the titular character, Natalie Portman slaying as his female equal and now Tessa as Valkyrie. Wow.

Appearing at Marvel Studios' Comic-Con panel in Hall H over the weekend, Thompson announced to the audience:

"As new king, she needs to find her queen. So that will be the first order of business. She has some ideas. I'll keep you posted."

When asked whether Valkyrie will have an LGBTQ+ storyline, MCU boss Kevin Feige told io9: "The answer is yes.

"How that impacts the story remains to be seen with that level of representation you’ll see across our films, not in just Thor 4."

Feige added to Collider that Marvel fans will also be treated to an LGBTQ+ character in The Eternals as well: Long may it reign.

Marvel has come under fire for its lack of LGBTQ+ representation in recent years, with Feige promising work on developing this hole in the franchise:

"We have both ones you've seen and ones you haven't seen," he said.

A deaf woman-of-colour, Lauren Ridloff, was also cast in The Eternals, alongside Richard Madden and Angelina Jolie.

The next Captain America (Falcon) is now a black man, a woman will play Thor, Mahershala Ali is starring in the Blade reboot and an Asian-Canadian newcomer Simu Liu snagged his role as Shang-Chi by literally annoying Marvel on Twitter.

Black Panther 2 is also in the works, and hilarious actress/comedian Awkwafina will join Simu Liu in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Much diversity, many feels. Thank Goddess they came to their senses and decided to include people, now we need women and people of colour, as well as people with disabilities in the writing room and director's seats.

Many fans are pointing out that the billion-dollar company waited until it was convenient and profitable for them to bring diversity to the table, but we just have to be grateful they finally stepped up.

Avengers: Endgame has just become the best-selling movie of all time, beating out Avatar in the box office.

Bodyguard has become the BBC's first series to be nominated for an Outstanding Drama Series Emmy in nearly 50 years, but it's star was snubbed in the Best Actor drama category.

The actor played the role of David Budd, war veteran turned head of security for controversial British Home Secretary Julia Montague, played by Keeley Hawes.

Madden picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Drama Series, beating Ozark‘s Jason Bateman, Stephan James (Homecoming), Pose's iconic Billy Porter and Matthew Rhys (The Americans).

It's fair to say that fans are absolutely livid over the former Game of Thrones actor's snub, and are demanding answers…

Critic Scott Feinberg of the Hollywood Reporter pointed out in a tweet how odd it was to see the show nominated without Madden getting a nod when he was in pretty much every scene.

Madden received great reviews for his recent appearance in Elton John biopic Rocketman, and was even named one of 2019’s 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine…So why the rudeness?

Critic Philiana Ng of Entertainment Tonight agreed with the fans about the shocking omission, using Madden's image as a meme to show her dismay;

Twitter user Katy wrote; "Golden Globe Winner Richard Madden snubbed of an Emmy nomination just doesn’t sit right with me at all.

"He put his heart and soul into making 360 minutes of television & delivered one of the most breathtaking performances I’ve ever seen and then doesn’t even get nominated." DAMN RIGHT.

Some even resorted to using Emmy-nominated Kit Harington to emphasise their sadness;

The star gave his all when it came to his performance as David Budd, who suffers from PTSD from his time serving in the British army in Afghanistan.

The thriller aired in the US on Netflix but was originally produced by ITV-owned producer World Productions for the British public broadcaster.

As well as Bodyguard's Outstanding Drama Series nomination, creator Jed Mercurio also picked up a nomination for Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series for the pilot.

Game of Thrones leads the Emmy Awards nominations, setting a new record with a whopping 32 total nominations.

Brilliant Phoebe Waller-Bridge BBC show Fleabag landed 11 nominations, including a Lead Actress nod for the writer/actress, whose show Killing Eve also received multiple nominations.

Bodyguard is expected to return for season two, with Mercurio saying he was “optimistic” about its chances of a renewal. All we want right now though, is Justice For Richard.

Bodyguard creator Jed Mercurio is officially in talks with the BBC over new episodes of the hit drama show, and we are SQUEALING.

Series one depicted a traumatised British war veteran turned security officer attempting to guard the UK Home Secretary, with some romantic friction involved.

The first season was the BCC's most-watched show since 2008, and later became a huge success on Netflix in the US. It's now looking like a second series could be well on its way.

Though the show hasn't yet been given the green light for season two by the BCC, Mercurio has confirmed that he's in conversation with the broadcaster over the show's renewal.

At a keynote event at Banff World Media Festival in Canada, the writer said; "We’re in talks. We’re going through the logistics of it."

Mercurio was shocked at the level of success which Bodyguard garnered, despite the stellar cast; “I know there’s an adage that your failure should be surprising. But the level of success was surprising,” he said.

It's been reported that lead actor Richard Madden, of Game of Thrones fame, spoke to Mercurio months ago about the next season.

Madden went on to win a Golden Globe for his incredible performance as David Budd, defender of Keeley Hawes and heart throb of our lives.

“We never intended to make another one and I don’t know, I’m excited to see what he’s got, especially because David had quite a busy couple of months,” Madden told the MailOnline in November.

His acting skills haven't just won him awards, Madden is now rumoured to be a front-runner for the James Bond role after Daniel Craig steps down.

With the death of a major character, season two is set to be a dramatic change in terms of the plot-line.

Anyone who paid attention to the Golden Globes the other night MUST have noticed the photobombing 'Fiji Water Girl.' Her constant presence was literally chilling.

Kelleth Cuthbert. AKA the 'FWG', works as a fashion model and commercial actress and pretty much just wants the world to stay DAMN HYDRATED.

She essentially stole the show at the 76th annual awards, and stood behind legit every single celebrity so ended up appearing in hundreds of high-profile images. Gas?

The Golden Globe model eventually became the talk of the night, with viewers taking note of her consistent red carpet star presence.

Cuthbert told People that she wasn't actually trying to emerge into the spotlight, but her modelling instincts took over (mmhmm we don't believe it).

She claims that the magical and amusing photos simply came about by “looking at the camera at the right time.” LIES-a Minelli, sweetie.

bollywood india indian lies kwk GIF

The gal has ended up being the brunt of hundreds of unbelievable memes, but explained that she was on her A-game because of the amount of photographers there.

“There’s tons of photographers everywhere. It doesn’t matter where you stand, you’re in the crossfire of every shot,” she commented.

“You’ve gotta have good face, at least, if you’re gonna be hovering in the background frequently," she added.

Her boss, Fiji Water, described her images as "ominous", which is a new one in terms of employer feedback, we have to say.

“We’re so glad everyone is talking about our water! *senses ominous presence* She’s right behind us, isn’t she? #FIJIwatergirl” the company tweeted on Sunday.

They then kickstarted the memes themselves by photoshopping her into various classic film images, pretty much NAILING free marketing.

They inserted her into Star Wars, Rocky and Thelma and Louise successfully, somehow, and it made for wonderful content.

Despite the “ominous” appearance, Cuthbert said the red carpet was actually too fast-paced to be focusing on your face constantly.

“The photographers have to take so many shots, so rapidly. Obviously, your face doesn’t look perfectly pleasant in all of them, so they captured lots of expressions where I’m naturally making weird faces.”

She appeared with Idris Elba, Judy Greer and Richard Madden, her favourite big-name photobomb image was Jim Carrey.

“I loved the Jim Carrey one,” she revealed to People. “I love his work. I grew up watching his movies and thought it was a funny thing to find myself in the background of.”

The model was totally unaware of all the social media furore surrounding her appearance on the red carpet, where she wore a long blue gown.

"I had absolutely no idea what was happening because I obviously didn’t have my phone on me,” she spoke about the craziness online while she was oblivious.

“I felt very cut off from everything. I didn’t find out until the last stragglers of the red carpet were heading into the awards ceremony, and all these people walking by started shoving their phones in my face and showing me that I was trending on Twitter, but I didn’t understand the magnitude of it untill later,” she added.

More than 50,000 tweets were sent out about Fiji Water Girl on Twitter in a few hours alone.

Cuthbert claims Fiji Water "got a good laugh out of it,” and that she was flooded with selfie requests from after-party guests, so she definitely made an impact.

She claims the Golden Globes was a once in a lifetime experience, despite having been in the industry for 12 years.

“Nothing quite so interesting has ever happened,” she said. “Nothing has garnered so much attention as this before.”

First of all, Sandra Oh is a NATIONAL TREASURE who must be protected at all costs.

The Killing Eve protagonist is the first actress of Asian descent in a shocking 39 years to win the Golden Globe for best leading TV actress. That's not where history-making ended for the co-host of the awards.

To be exact, Oh broke THREE records last night, and also succeeded in making everyone cry during her opening monologue.

sandra oh its an honor just to be asian GIF by Emmys

She was the FIRST person of Asian descent to be asked to host the awards ceremony, with the gig normally going to a white male, except for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's iconic three-year-run from 2013 until 2015.

Hilarious Brooklyn 99 and Saturday Night Live alum Andy Samberg co-hosted the Globes alongside Oh, with the actress declaring during their opening speech that;

“I said yes to the fear of being on this stage tonight because I wanted to be here to look out into this audience and witness this moment of change.” OKAY NOW WE'RE IN TEARS.

She witnessed that outstanding moment of change later on, when she won Best Actress in a TV Drama for the BBC America fixture Killing Eve, making her the first woman of Asian descent to win more than one Globe.

She won her first award in 2006 for her ground-breaking run as badass heart surgeon Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy. BUT SHE WASN'T DONE.

Sandra became the first woman of Asian descent in 39 years to win best actress in a TV drama, with the last actress (Yoko Shimada) winning in 1980. Thank the Gods, Oh will return to Killing Eve for season two on April 7.

Emma Stone shouting an apology at Sandra Oh for whitewashing was a major gas. We love you Emma, never change. Except for personal growth regarding diversity maybe…

The 76th Annual Golden Globes awards was a ceremony of laughs, drama (what else) and celeb moments, and we made the ultimate list of winners and snubs.

Freddie Mercury (semi) biopic Bohemian Rhapsody quite surprisingly took home the coveted Best Picture gong, with Rami Malek also winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture for the Drama category.

Nicole Kidman later ignored him onstage in what was possibly the most awkward moment of anyone's lives ever. Literally.

Musical A Star Is Born received by far the most snubs of the evening, only winning the Best Song category for Shallow after being nominated for five awards overall. BUT GAGA?!? SHE A STAR.

help greys anatomy help me sandra oh cristina yang GIF

Glen Close took home the Best Actress Globe for The Wife, beating Lady Gaga for the achievement. Bodyguard actor Richard Madden was given the Best Actor award for his BBC role about the Home Secretary's security agent.

He also broke our hearts by saying that all the talk of him playing James Bond were mere "rumours." PLEASE make it happen honey. Please.

Political biopic Vice, which chronicles the later life of  American Vice President Dick Cheney, shocked the audience by losing the Best Picture – Musical or Comedy award to Green Book.

The award for Best Supporting Actor was given to Green Book actor Mahershala Ali; the film also took home the Best Screenplay gong. Christian Bale's award was Vice's only win of the night, despite six nominations.

Hilariously, a girl who was serving Fiji water the entire night has become the internet's new meme, for the purpose of living her best life;

Olivia Colman deservedly won Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for her black comedy performance in The Favourite, which also lost out on five awards.

Roma predictably won Best Foreign Film, which was a popular choice, as well as its director Alfonso Cuarón being honoured with Best Director.

Lady Gaga's dress arguably was the highlight of the show, aside from the goddess that is Sandra Oh, of course. No, we're not finished talking about her. REPRESENTATION MATTERS, PEOPLE.

Her hair matches her dress, and it looks God Damn Stunning. We're shooketh.

People were NOT happy that Gaga lost the Best Actress award to Glen Close, but they were doubly annoyed that Mark Ronson arguably stole her thunder during their acceptance speech for the Best Song award.

amy poehler mansplaining GIF by Golden Globes

Despite co-writing Shallow with Gaga and two others, Ronson did nearly all of the speaking while accepting the award.

Of course, there were cringey moments galore. The first one came on the red carpet when E! News presenter Giuliana Rancic basically made major flops while interviewing Debra Messing.

Next came when the hosts tried to give everyone in the audience flu shots, and NOBODY wanted needles on camera. Nobody. Especially not Willem Dafoe.

Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh's opening monologue was a tad cheesy, but they had to navigate a minefield of not insulting anyone there or making any mistakes about diversity.

Seeing as Kevin Hart's Oscars hosting gig is in the toilet following the revelation of old homophobic tweets, the duo kindly offered to take his place.

Glen Close's face when she beat Lady Gaga was also a big LOL, considering she clearly was just as shocked herself that she beat the ENIGMA Mother Monster.

A highlight of the night was when current James Bond Daniel Craig took a selfie with Idris Elba, a rumoured contender to take his place.

We swooned, they swooned; in conclusion, everyone swooned.

Ben Whishaw scooped up a Best Supporting Actor award for shouted out a tribute to 'queer hero' Norman Scott in his acceptance speech.

The British actor won for his portrayal of Scott in BBC drama A Very English Scandal during the glittering occasion, and he is just adorable. SO pure. Protect him.

Another surprise came in the Best Animated Film category, when Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse beat The Incredibles 2 for the desired award.

That's the ultimate round-up, folks.

There was glamour, there was snubbing, and there was cringe personified. We can't wait for next year already…

Richard Madden has had quite a year, and it's only getting bigger following his stint as David Budd in the worldwide TV thriller The Bodyguard.

News has just emerged that the 32-year-old Scottish actor has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance By An Actor In A Television Series – Drama.

He visited Ellen DeGeneres on her veteran show to discuss the breakout BBC hit, which is now on US Netflix and has been streamed constantly, as predicted.

Ellen is never one to hide away the shirtless photos of her male guests, and she continued her tradition of embarrassing her talk show visitors by addressing Madden's naked scenes in the show.

She asked the actor how his parents feel about his nudity as the bodyguard of the Home Secretary of Britain, and he replied that his parents are less than impressed with seeing his rear end on screen:

"I've made a few mistakes I've made in my time, one of which is neglecting to tell my mother that there's going to be a sex scene in my show," he told Ellen.

This would be fairly embarrassing TBH, most parents don't want to witness their loved ones wearing nothing on TV…and Richard's rents are no different:

"I get a hysterical phone call of "you must tell me and your father, I was watching it at the time with a cup of tea, I nearly spilled it!"", he laughed.

We're gonna throw in another Richard Madden gif for good measure:

You're welcome.

His mum certainly sounds exactly like any Irish mother, cup of tea and slightly judgemental tone paired with the casual Catholic shame… classic.

The powers that be have started rumours…rumours that we must investigate.

The theories over who would take over the role from Daniel Craig have been changing by the day, with Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Dornan and Aidan Turner being linked to the franchise over the last year.

Whispers in the film industry’s gossip crew are now reporting that actor Richard Madden could be taking up the mantle of the newest James Bond.

Sources in the tabloids are hinting that the former Game of Thrones actor (RIP Robb Stark, gone but not forgotten) and star of recent BBC phenomenon Bodyguard is top of executive producer Barbara Broccoli's wishlist for the role when Daniel Craig retires his blue steel eyes and tuxedo.

He certainly has a licence to thrill based on the excitement he caused from his turn as David Budd, protector of the fictional Home Secretary in the popular British show Bodyguard, which has recently announced will be coming to Netflix at the end of the month.

Eon Productions are expected to approach Madden regarding the iconic protagonist over the next few days, according to the Daily Mail.

Popular The Wire actor Idris Elba was previously thought to be the favourite frontrunner for the role, which would have been a major progression in diverse representation, but he broke everyone’s heart by recently quashing any Bond rumours.

Walking the London red carpet at the premiere of his directorial debut Yardie, Elba curtly ruled himself out of the competitive process of Bond auditions, despite feverish speculation surrounding him previously.

Danny Boyle has only just stepped down from the post of director of the 25th Bond film, citing “creative differences” with MGM.

It will be Daniel Craig’s fifth and final film as the infamous MI6 agent. True Detective mastermind Cary Fukunaga has been hired as Boyle’s replacement, with the film scheduled for February 2020.

We have faith that Richard Madden is the man to reignite the Bond franchise, I mean just look at that jawline?

In July Cara Delevingne had a very awkward moment when she was on the promotional trail for her film Paper Towns. The model-turned-actress was interviewed by anchors for Good Day Sacramento when things took a turn for the worst.

Things got off to a rocky start when one of the anchors introduced her as 'Carla', and then just went downhill for there.

Her signature sarcasm and humour didn't translate to the American hosts and by the end they asked if the star was "exhausted", Her reply: "Perhaps it's just you," led to quite a social media stir. Once the interview ended the hosts continued to slate Cara with comments such as:

"You make $5m for six weeks of work, you can pretend to talk to Good Day Sacramento with some oomph."

We thought that everyone had moved on from the incident by now but it seems that at least one celeb still had something to add to the misadventure.

Richard Madden, AKA Robb Stark from Game Of Thrones, made reference to the ordeal when interviewed by Style magazine:

"It made her seem ungrateful. It showed her age. For Cinderella I did 6 weeks of those interviews."

Ouch, don't hold back Richard. He added:

"If you're not capable of doing that gracefully then don't do it."

Cara did not take the criticism lightly and took to social media to sound off:

Fans reacted expertly:

Oh and then Richard had to come back and try to diffuse the situation:

When will they ever learn?
