Tonight’s The Late Late Show has an amazing lineup, and we cannot wait to watch it.

Appearances will be made by Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin, Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick, and our favourite – authors Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen.

The two women are most known for writing Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling.

The hilarious Irish best-selling novel has quickly climbed the charts and is definitely a must-read.

It tells the story of 28-year-old Aisling who lives at home in Ballygobbard with her parents.

The young woman finds familiarity in her routine, commuting to her dependable job in Dublin and staying at her long-time boyfriend’s house twice a week.

But eventually, Aisling gets tired of waiting for him to put a ring on it. And that’s when everything changes in her comedic story.

And now the heartwarming story is in the process of being made into a film.

Taking to Twitter, writers, Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen announced that Element Pictures have acquired the film rights.

The authors are thrilled to be bringing their dream to the big screens.

Emer and Sarah have climbed to fame since their popular novel’s release, and they live to entertain.

“We’ve known this character for ten years so to be given the opportunity to take her from the pages of our beloved book and transform her into a walking, talking, caring (and judging, let’s be honest) girl in front of a camera is beyond our wildest dreams. We can’t wait to start!”

It has been seven months since the big announcement and we’re sure the girls will have plenty to share.

Hopefully, the amusing duo will be able to give us some insights into the film, including an official release date.

Also, make sure to check out their latest book: The Importance of Being Aisling, which is now available in stores.

If you’re stuck for something to do this Friday night then you need to get down to The Grand Social.

The charity Scoop (Support Children Out Of Poverty) has teamed up with District Magazine and music blogger Nialler9 to bring music lovers a night of eclectic homegrown Irish music.

The line up for Syrias Vibes w/ District Mag & Nialler9 is jam-packed with talented acts including Alfie South & Donkobz, Why-Axis and FYNCH, as well as DJ sets from Calvin James, Phil Long & David Hargadon and 2FM's Tara Stewart.

There will also be a very special guest performing on the night. They recently played a historic set at this year’s Electric Picnic and we cannot wait to find out who this mystery performer is.

Scoop supports doctors, clinics and ambulances in Syria, as well as supporting Joint Help for Kurdistan.

The charity offers help and support to displaced persons on the Iraqi border with Syria.

They have even started a programme at a clinic in Bajed Kandala Camp that aims to work with women coming back from ISIS captivity, and children who have grown up in a war zone or living on the road, always in danger. There are over 6000 women and children living in the camp.

Scoop was established by brothers Calvin and Andy James. The siblings are currently working on an initiative to help tackle the homelessness problem in Dublin.

Tonight’s event is going to be a huge help for the charity, so make sure to head on down to The Grand Social at 8 pm.

We love our dirty old town, from the cobble stones to the Molly Malone. – She's a beaut.

It's no surprise that our Dublin streets are busy with the hustle and bustle of tourists.

Our culture, art and humour are all a draw for those across the globe, to book a ticket, take a plane and discover the gems that lay in our land.

Our little capital city might be small in scale to others, but it's just as rich in spirit and heart.

However, this heartbreaking video ignites the double standards that live in our city.

The problems we walk by everyday on our way to work or college.

The issues we protest or may be all too familiar with as we collect the dole, search for a place to live or scrap to get by.

The things the tourists miss as they stroll through the gates of Trinity or picnic in Stephen's Green.

You might be pondering the issues the poem raises, as you listen to Pete St John describing our city.

You could be nodding along, agreeing to the things he's recalling, but the terrifying fact is, that poet and songwriter Pete St John, wrote this piece 30 years ago.

Debuting 'A Dublin Poem' on the Late Late Show on the eve of Dublin's Millennium in 1988, he was reflecting on Dublin's progress – but what has changed?

The things that plagued the city 30 years ago, seems to be very much alive and kicking in the present day.

The video opens with how much the tourism industry has generated last year, and ends with the poignant question of – how much is a life worth?

The filmmaker, Paul Butler Lennox wanted to raise awareness of the housing crisis and homelessness problem that continues to be a huge issue.

Our city and earning power has radically changed over the last 30 years, however, the same problems persist.

According to Focus Ireland, in July 2018, 9,891 of people were homeless, included in this figure is 3,867 homeless children.

The question that remains is why?

While we tend to think of celebrities as those who have dedicated their all to the pursuit of what made them famous, in truth, a great many of them are not quite so single-minded.

Sometimes these jobs were first sought before they got famous. Other times these celebs pursued side-projects despite success in whatever made them famous.

Whatever the case, we thought it would be fun to take a look at some celebrities who would have had very different careers if their first plans hadn’t worked out.

Terry Crews

Originally finding success in professional football, retirement left this lovable giant at a loss of what to do with the rest of his working life.

Far from being the cliché jock, Terry showed immense talent in painting.

Sometimes working for commission from his former teammates, and at other times holding a variety of jobs like his brief stint as a courtroom sketch artist, Crews showed that he has a lot more to offer than just his charisma and undeniable handsomeness.

Mayim Bialik

Many of our older readers might recognise her as the lead character in Blossom, though more recently she has seen immense success in The Big Bang Theory sitcom.

Apparently not happy to being relegated to intellectualism on the screen, Mayim spent no short amount of time as a celeb seeking a degree and life of scientific pursuit.

Now having earned a PhD in neuroscience, Mayim stands as one of the few actors who doesn’t just mirror the intelligence of one of her most famous characters, she exceeds it.

Nick Offerman

Best known as the libertarian hard-ass with the heart of gold in the sitcom Parks and Recreation, his character’s affinity for woodworking was more than just theatrical.

A highly skilled and successful carpenter in his own right, Nick still finds work crafting in his own time, finding it helps him balance and give him another creative outlet.

While he commonly builds furniture, his speciality is wooden canoes, which as we all know, is the most outdoorsy thing to build since a stone tied to a stick.

Christopher Lee

This is one of the most famous vampire actors of all time, and a modern household name as Saruman in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

Not just a badass in the magical or bloodsucking sense, the late Lee also served his country during the Second World War.

Tasked with tracking down war criminals, Lee was notoriously tight-lipped about his time in the Special Forces, though occasionally his experience would pay off in his later acting career.

While filming Lord of the Rings, Lee was being directed by Peter Jackson in how to act following being stabbed in the back.

Lee famously responded with “Have you any idea what kind of noise happens when somebody’s stabbed in the back? Because I do.”

We could write a book on the wide range of interesting careers which celebrities have held in the past and who knows, we just might.

Who are your favourite celebrities with surprising former careers and backstories of their own? Let us know below.

Dublin doesn't often get visits from our fave online influencers, but luckily, but one of the biggest and best is coming to our nation's capital.

Jeffree Star has announced over on Twitter that he will be paying us a visit on his Can't Relate Tour with Beauty Bay.

Jeffree is one of the internet's OG celebrities, and from his beginnings on MySpace, he today has over ten and a half million followers on YouTube.

Followers flock to his page for makeup reviews, tutorials and chatty videos, and Jeffree is not known to hold his tongue when it comes to dishing out the sass.

He is also renowned for his brand Jeffree Star Cosmetics, bringing edgy beauty to all of our makeup bags.

So if you have always wanted to meet Jeffree, now could be your chance.

Keep an eye out for further details of the launch, which will be revealed next week by Jeffree and Beauty Bay.

However, while the reaction to Jeffree's Dublin visit was hugely positive, some took issue with his sweeping statement of 'Hey UK.'

It's an error many celebs from across the pond have made before him, but as we all know, Dublin is not in the Uk it's in Ireland.

Many Irish fans were quick to point this out in the Twitter thread, which sadly soon revealed that there are quite a few people out there who still think Ireland is in the UK.

We're sure Jeffree is well aware of his history and geography, so we'll let this one slide as a slip of the tongue.

Littlewoods are our go-to when it comes to all things fashion, beauty and electrical, but we particularly love their brand V by Very.

The online behemoth launched it's Autumn Winter 2018 collection last night, and we were on hand to witness the key pieces being released onto the runway.

Draped over the poised shoulders of top Irish-based models like Louise O'Reilley, January Winters, Thalia Heffernan and Yomiko Chen we're some key looks on the night, and we've taken note.

Loud leopard

Leopard print has been having a major fashion monet – completely taking over the high street. However, V By Very is styling it differently.

The upcoming collection is laying the print on thick over unexpected hues, like the red guna with black piping on Louise, or teaming the classic print with girlie elements like lace.

When it's in it's natural shade, its layered to create a dramatic look, with a leopard coat being flung atop a leopard shift dress.

Seasonal sequins

Pippa O'Connor named the sequinned dress her favourite piece from th collection, and it's not hard to see why.

Sequins come around every party season, as the evenings get darker and the rustling of sequins announce our arrival both audibly and visually.

We love the unexpected addition of sequin stripes to a pair of flared trousers, and the edgier accent sequins are lending to this tuxedo jumpsuit.

Cool Colour Pop

Just because the days are getting darker, doesn't mean our wardrobe has to.

The collection featured a number of colourful items in rich shades like mustard, purple and royal blue.

More often than not, the colours were mixed with others in prints like floral and plaid, or doubled up in pantsuits.

And now, the shoes…

A/W means we have to slip off our sandals and dust off the boots and close-toes shoes that colder months demand.

Flat white boots were one of the biggest trends this summer, and they're getting an A/W update with a Western finish from V By Very.

Heels reflected the catwalk trends, coming in leopard prints or iridescent silver.

If you're hankering after any of these pieces, they can be found at littlewoods.com.

The mere thought of sitting the Leaving Cert again makes me feel queasy. The memories of my final year exams aren’t pleasant, and I’m sure I’m not the only Irish person who feels that way.

Reading crumpled history notes through strained eyes at 2 am became a staple part of my nighttime routine during sixth year.

Some people sail through exam season, but other succumb to the pressure of the Leaving Cert.

We got frustrated over our struggle to understand Pythagoras’ theorem.

We shed tears over the pressure to memorise quotes from Macbeth for higher level English.

We had nightmares about not getting enough points for our dream college course.

I couldn’t possibly go back to that time of never-ending stress, tears and the Straith Pictíur, unlike broadcaster Stephen Byrne who went back-to-school nearly a decade after he sat his Leaving Cert.

The former YouTube star has a show on one of the nation’s biggest radio stations and has interviewed everyone from Oprah to Steven Speilberg, so why on earth would you swap the Oscar red carpet for French grammar lessons?

He told SHEmazing: “It felt incredibly different but all so similar at the same time. When I first sat down in Geography and began learning about rocks, it felt incredibly nostalgic.”

The one difference he noted was young people’s ability to open up about their mental health: “The progressiveness of young people and their vocabulary around mental health though has changed in a major way."

He explained: “I felt very proud to sit among the students I spent my classes with but at the same time was incredibly jealous of that experience too."

"I feel like LGBT people of my generation have a somewhat delayed adolescence because we didn't get to experience similar things to other young people as we were suppressing ourselves for much longer. “

The documentary is bound to start a huge conversation surrounding young people’s mental health, but the entire process took quite the knock on the 28-year-old.

Despite his struggles, Stephen described the experience as one of the most cathartic journeys of his life

It’s clear the Leaving Cert doesn’t cater to everyone. At the end of the day, it’s a memory test and the students who can memorise poetry quotes and geography facts the best are rewarded.

We never truly see the real picture of what life as a Leaving Cert student is like. People share good luck tweets during exam season and like photos of their friend's results on Instagram, but Leaving Again will open the eyes of the public to the reality of the Leaving Cert.

Leaving Again airs on RTÉ One at 10:15 pm.

Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark has a direwolf with the words "the pack survives."

Maisie Williams also has a neck tattoo in relation to her character on the show, Arya Stark.

She had "No one" inked which references her training in season five to becoming a faceless man.

Ten years ago a green and white envelope arrived through my letterbox.

Aged 26 I was happy and grateful for what I had and was looking for ways I could give back and help others in need so I signed up to Childfund Ireland requesting to sponsor a child. When I opened the envelope and a picture of a dark skinned, brown eyed, dimple cheeked three year old boy fell into my lap, a big smile spread across my face.

‘We are delighted to introduce you to Shaban, your sponsored child’ the accompanying letter warmly informed me. Shaban was from Uganda, a country I had tenuous ties with as my brother's best friend was from there, but other than that I was unfamiliar with the small African country dubbed the Pearl of Africa.

The information pack informed me that Shaban was from one of the poorest areas in the country, and for just €22.00 per month my sponsorship would help to fund his vaccinations, healthcare, and education. My sponsorship would benefit his whole family, and indeed the whole community in some ways.

For the price of four cups of coffee a month, a boy’s life was being made better. Though thousands of miles away I already felt a connection to this little boy and felt thankful that I was fortunate enough to be able to help him.

A few months after receiving my intro pack another letter arrived through the door, it was the first of what would be many letters I received from Shaban. His early letters were update reports, no doubt written by a community member updating me on his progress accompanied by little childish drawings of colourful balls and scribbles.

As time went on these letters were written by Shaban himself, his English and handwriting improving with every year that passed. I learned he loved football, his favourite colour was red, he helped his mother fetch water after school and he loved his brothers and sisters.

Occasionally I would write back but not as often as he did. Perhaps the cynic in me thought he wouldn’t receive the letters. Perhaps I felt embarrassed about my seemingly privileged westernised life. Perhaps I was just lazy. I should have written more.

Over the years I moved job, moved house, moved country several times but I always maintained my sponsorship of Shaban. I made sure to update Childfund of my change of address so I would continue to receive his letters, each one allowing me to get a glimpse into the happy young man he was becoming.

When my brother's best friend invited me to his wedding I was thrilled to find out it was in Uganda. I immediately contacted Childfund to see if I could arrange a sponsor visit.

The Dublin office were as excited as I was, and couldn’t have been more helpful scheduling my meeting with Shaban and his family. Of course, Childfund go to great lengths to protect the children, meaning I underwent Garda vetting and various forms needed to be filled out, but it was an otherwise seamless process.

Many of my friends and family donated clothes, toys and money so that I could bring three large suitcases filled with presents for Shaban, his family and the wider community. I even brought him a book about Ireland, along with a red Liverpool jersey with his name emblazoned on the back.

On August 15th this year, my brother and I were driven the five hours from Kampala by the lovely Childfund Uganda staff members. When we arrived all the women from the community, dressed in their finest colourful dresses, greeted us with chants and hollers, singing to us as we emerged from the car.

Shaban was there to greet me, a dark skinned, dark eyed, dimple cheeked 13 year old, who gave me the warmest hug and the biggest smile. His mother, father, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters all greeted me with love and hugs and immense warmth and gratitude that I had come to visit them.

Shaban was my ‘sponsored’ child but there was no denying they made me feel part of the family. We spent five short hours in one another’s company but it is five hours I will never forget. My brother and I were shown around the community, introduced to each member of Shaban’s family, had songs and dances performed for us, a humble but delicious meal was prepared and we exchanged gifts after having greeted the excitable and giggling school children all vying to catch a glimpse of the pale skinned westerners.

We took pictures, including ones with a Fuji Instax that developed like magic before their eyes meaning they had instant keepsakes of our visit. Though poor, and there was no denying the poverty, the community were rich in smiles and laughter.

The cynic in me was abated. There was no denying that my sponsorship was benefiting Shaban and his family. There was no doubt that my connection with him was real.

Through Childfund I have the option of sponsoring him until he is 24 and has completed his education, an option I will most likely take. He could become a doctor, a lawyer, a local farmer, a famous footballer, or he may fall in love, start a family and live a happy and contented life like his father before him in the community where he was born.

I’m grateful that for the sacrifice of four cups of coffee, or two overpriced gin and tonics, I was able to meet a wonderful little boy and his happy family thousands of miles away from Dublin and feel like I had made a small difference in the world.
