Christmas gift shopping has put quite the dint in my bank account so the chances of heading out for midweek pints are awfully slim.

Luckily, one of the best coming-of-age movies is on TV tonight so we will all be pleasantly entertained.

The Edge of Seventeen starring Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson is on BBC Two tonight and you need to tune into the feel-good film.

Harrelson and Steinfeld make the most charming on-screen duo.

The movie follows Nadine as she struggles with high-school life. The teen has enough to deal with as she tackles unrequited love, dull classes and family heartache, but her world turns upside down when her best friend starts dating her older brother.

Nadine suddenly finds herself feeling more alone than ever before, especially after losing her dear father.

The teen forms an unexpected friendship with her teacher Erwin (Harrelson) who helps her realise life isn’t half as bad as she thinks.

This heartwarming and emotional teen movie is one of the best of our time, plus the soundtrack is an absolute dream. 80s pop, The 1975 and Birdy- what more could you ask for?

The Edge of Seventeen stars Hailee Steinfeld, Woody Harrelson, Haley Lu Richardson and Hayden Szeto.

You can watch it on BBC 2 at 11.15pm tonight.

The rain is pouring and our bank accounts are empty so our weekend is going to be very, very quiet.

Once we step in the door after work, we’re putting our pjs on, ordering pizza and curling up on the sofa for the foreseeable future.

Instead of scrolling through Netflix for hours and hours we’ll be tuning into one of our favourite Jennifer Aniston movies tonight.

Get the tissues at the ready because Marley and Me is on RTÉ2 at 21.30.

The movie follows journalists John and Jenny Grogan as they move to South Florida and start a new chapter of their lives.

After the couple tie the knot, John decides to buy his wife Jenny a dog- a Labrador named Marley.

The four-legged fur ball becomes a part of their family and is there for some of the highest and lowest moments of their lives. He swiftly turns into the loyal companion the couple can turn to during upsetting days and trying times.

The comedy-drama is based on the memoir of the same name by John Grogan.

Marley and Me stars Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston, Kathleen Turner and Alan Arkin

Tune in at 21.30 on RTÉ 2 tonight.

The mere thought of sitting the Leaving Cert again makes me feel queasy. The memories of my final year exams aren’t pleasant, and I’m sure I’m not the only Irish person who feels that way.

Reading crumpled history notes through strained eyes at 2 am became a staple part of my nighttime routine during sixth year.

Some people sail through exam season, but other succumb to the pressure of the Leaving Cert.

We got frustrated over our struggle to understand Pythagoras’ theorem.

We shed tears over the pressure to memorise quotes from Macbeth for higher level English.

We had nightmares about not getting enough points for our dream college course.

I couldn’t possibly go back to that time of never-ending stress, tears and the Straith Pictíur, unlike broadcaster Stephen Byrne who went back-to-school nearly a decade after he sat his Leaving Cert.

The former YouTube star has a show on one of the nation’s biggest radio stations and has interviewed everyone from Oprah to Steven Speilberg, so why on earth would you swap the Oscar red carpet for French grammar lessons?

He told SHEmazing: “It felt incredibly different but all so similar at the same time. When I first sat down in Geography and began learning about rocks, it felt incredibly nostalgic.”

The one difference he noted was young people’s ability to open up about their mental health: “The progressiveness of young people and their vocabulary around mental health though has changed in a major way."

He explained: “I felt very proud to sit among the students I spent my classes with but at the same time was incredibly jealous of that experience too."

"I feel like LGBT people of my generation have a somewhat delayed adolescence because we didn't get to experience similar things to other young people as we were suppressing ourselves for much longer. “

The documentary is bound to start a huge conversation surrounding young people’s mental health, but the entire process took quite the knock on the 28-year-old.

Despite his struggles, Stephen described the experience as one of the most cathartic journeys of his life

“I was quite lost last year and that felt very similar to how I felt during my original exam year so this sort of bridged a connection between that younger version of me and my current self,” he commented.

It’s clear the Leaving Cert doesn’t cater to everyone. At the end of the day, it’s a memory test and the students who can memorise poetry quotes and geography facts the best are rewarded.

We never truly see the real picture of what life as a Leaving Cert student is like. People share good luck tweets during exam season and like photos of their friend's results on Instagram, but Leaving Again will open the eyes of the public to the reality of the Leaving Cert.

Leaving Again airs on RTÉ One at 10:15 pm.

The story of Cystic Fibrosis campaigner Orla Tinsley is one that captured my heart, as well as the hearts of the entire nation. Orla shared brave updates from her hospital bed as she waited for a lung transplant in New York for a harrowing nine-months.

Watching Orla’s journey unfold from the screen of my iPhone was surreal. I constantly checked her Instagram for updates, hoping and wishing she would receive that life-saving double lung transplant.

There was a point when Orla was put on life support at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. The inspiring activist wanted people to see every aspect of her journey. Despite her deteriorating health, Orla continued to let the cameras document her life, even though there was a chance she may not survive.

Speaking of the documentary, she shared: “My dream is to raise as much awareness about organ donation, transplant and CF as possible.”

“It was extremely important for me to continue this in the most challenging time of my life. I share my transplant story in the hope it will help others going through transplant or situations like it all over the world,” she explained.

Orla hopes her documentary will encourage people to become organ donors. “I owe all things to my donor who has given me a second chance at life.”

Orla Tinsley: Warrior will air on RTÉ One tonight at 21:35.
