Dads. They're gas characters altogether.

Between the terrible puns bashed out and every family gathering and their never-ending quest to make a show of you at the worst possible moments, we can always rely on our darling fathers to bring us back down to earth.

One woman who knows this all too well is Allison Barron, and her finance Levi Bliss.

Over the weekend, the couple shared one of the most special moments of their relationships when Levi got down on one knee and asked Allison to be his wife.

On first glance, everything looks absolutely perfect. The scenic landscape and gorgeous blue skies make for a storybook proposal. But of course, Allison's dad had different ideas.

In what can only be described as the ultimate dad stunt ever pulled, he decided to inject some humour into the situation.

Standing just up hill as his daughter makes one of the most important decisions of the life, her dad offered some helpful advice in the form of a large sign displaying the words "SAY NO".

And while this might seem like the worst possible time to crack a belter of a dad joke, Allison and Levi both agreed that it made the moment all the more special.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, she said: "We both know my dad so well, we got the joke right away and found it funny."

Sharing the charming moment on Twitter, Allison posted a photo of her dad holding the sign above his head, along with caption: "My dad had other ideas…"

The tweet has since gone insanely viral, and has become an early contender for meme of the year.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, she ignored her dad's advice and said yes!

There's nothing like putting on a pair of rose-coloured glasses and taking a stroll down memory lane.

As much as we love being grown up queens, we have to admit, it was pretty amazing being a kid.

A recent poll of 2,000 adults in the UK found that an astounding 67 percent wished they could be a child again.

Same, tbh.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean the poll's participants want to grow up in the current era of Snapchat and Facebook.

In fact, 58 percent said that it was better to be a kid 'back in the day' because they didn't need technology to entertain themselves, the Daily Express reports.

As far as what makes us feel little twinges of nostalgia, school holidays topped the list of what adults miss from childhood.

There was nothing like those days of freedom where it felt like you could do absolutely anything!

Hot summers were the second most missed thing about being a kid, according to the survey commissioned by Hollywood Bowl.

Who doesn't yearn for those sunny days filled with swimming and slowly melting ice cream?

Other things we pine for from childhood include everything from Enid Blyton books to having someone else wash our clothes (the dream).

Here's the rest of the 50 things we miss most from our childhoods:

We've been waiting with bated breath to see who will be joining the new cast for series three of The Crown as Prince Philip.

After all, who has the acting chops to hold their own against Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret) and Olivia Colman (Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth)?

Despite rumours that Hugh Laurie would be taking on the role, it's now been revealed that Tobias Menzies will be carrying on as Prince Philip after Matt Smith departs.

A post shared by Outlander (@outlander_starz) on

If you're a fan of Outlander then you'll recognise the 44-year-old actor as the heroine Claire's husband, Frank Randall, and his evil ancestor, Jonathan 'Black Jack' Randall.

As well, he played Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones – and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his numerous acting credits!

Tobias is signed on to play the Duke of Edinburgh for series three and four of The Crown, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He's certainly talented enough to bring Prince Philip to life on screen.

A post shared by Caitrionabalfe (@caitrionabalfe) on

The London-born actor was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance as the terrifying Black Jack in Outlander in 2016.

Besides Tobias' prolific television and film career, he's also an accomplished on the stage as well.

Not to mention the fact that he looks a fair bit like Prince Philip!

A post shared by Outlander (@outlander_starz) on

We are utterly thrilled to see him in the next two series of The Crown. Even though we may have to wait longer for the next series than previous ones (it's reportedly set to air in winter 2018 or early spring 2019), we're sure it will be worth the wait.

What do you think of Tobias Menzies as the new Prince Philip?

Moving on…

There will be depictions of Kate Midz downing a glass of wine, and doing various other things that will be useful mid conversation.

All good things come at a price – the emoji apps will be sold separately for £1.41 each.

OK, nobody panic, but the cast of Dawson's Creek have reunited and our inner 90s girls are screaming.

To celebrate the show's 20th anniversary, Entertainment Weekly got the old gang back together to talk about their favourite moments from the cult teen drama.

The magazine also treated us to four solo covers featuring lead actors Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, James Van Der Beek, and Michelle Williams, as well as one group cover, which really pulled on our nostalgic heart strings.

After making its debut in 1998, Dawson's Creek became and instant hit, and even produced one of the internet's most iconic memes, lest we forget.

The series acted as a springboard for its lead actors, with Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, James Van Der Beek and Michelle Williams all having enjoyed hugely successful careers in the entertainment industry.

Speaking fondly about her time on the series, Williams, now a four-time Oscar nominee, said: "I loved that we were able to get in there in those formative years for people. That's why people, I think, are so connected to it. When something affects you while you were growing up, it kind of stays in there forever."

"When you're so permeable and open and trying to figure out who you are and what's going on, whatever reaches you in those moments really becomes part of you."

However, those wishing for another instalment of the much-loved show shouldn't hold their breath. When asked if the characters would ever reunite on screen in an interview last January, show creator Kevin Williamson telling the Hollywood Reporter

"What would we do?! One of the reasons we did the finale five years in the future was to put a button on it. What would a reunion be? What would that look like? Why would you? I don't see it and I don't feel it. The finale was such a beautiful moment in time and the show was always meant to be a nostalgia piece."

The referendum on repealing the 8th amendment to the constitution will take place on May 25 2018.

It was speculated that this would be the date, but confirmation came today via Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy.

Earlier today, Simon Harris tweeted that 'the Referendum Bill has now passed all stages in Seanad Eireann.'

'Date for referendum can now be formally set.'

Senators voted 40 to 10 to allow the referendum to take place.

The referendum will come after months of political debate regarding the issue.

'I cannot close my eyes and block my ears to the fact that 3,265 of our citizens travelled to the UK in 2016 from every county in Ireland,' Mr Harris said previously.

'I cannot stand over a situation where the abortion pill is illegally accessed in this country and women, perhaps in the privacy of their own bedroom, in a lonely isolated place, [are] taking a pill without any medical supervision.'

Created by New York based ice cream shop, Taiyaki NYC, these bunny cones are the sweetest treats on Insta right now.

They're made with your choice of waffle cone, any flavour of whipped ice cream and a delightful set of bunny ears (which are edible, btw).

Top that all off with pastel coloured sprinkles and some sweets on a stick, and you may just have the most perfect cone ever.

Taiyaki has become pretty famous as an ice cream destination, due to their many creative cones, such as their unicone – yes, inspired by unicorns.

Actually, at Christmas they created the most adorable Christmas tree cone, that even had a little star on top.

WHAT WILL THEY THINK OF NEXT?

In a world of airbrushed models and #spon posts, it's safe to say that the media has played a huge role in the creation of the impossible beauty standards facing women today.

With social feeds full of face-tuned photos showing society's idea of the 'perfect' physique, it's easy to feel as though your own body isn't worthy of love or celebration.

And while steps have been taken to eliminate these kind of attitudes, there's still a lot of work to be done, and it seems these positive changes haven't yet translated to real-life situations, with studies showing that body shaming often comes from those closest to us.

In an effort to shed a light on the topic Fit Rated surveyed 1,000 men and women about their experiences, and how their friends and family contribute to their body-confidence issues.

The research showed that 92.7 per cent of women and 86.5 per cent of men have been ridiculed in some shape or form for the way they look, proving that body shaming is not restricted to one type of body or person.

As shocking as these figures may seem, it's hardly surprising when you consider over half of all women and one fifth of men admitted to body shaming others at one point or another, thus continuing the cycle.

When it came to the parts of the body that were most often criticised, both men and women reported that their bellies and legs were most likely to be the subject of a damning comment.

But where does it all come from?

Parents, friends and significant others were all found to be the greatest offenders, with over 60 per cent of women revealing they had been shamed by their mother at some point in their lives.

"My mother used to tell me I was fatter than my sister and compare me to her," said one respondent. While a second told how her mother would shame her for being on her period.

Another spoke of how her significant other would force her to stand naked in front of the mirror while he inspected her body.

"A previous boyfriend continually would get undressed in front of a mirror and stand behind me pointing out things abut my body her did not like and/or did not think were attreactive."

Mainstream and social media may often bear the brunt of criticism for creating unrealistic body standards for men and women of all ages, but as we learned, the ridicule endured over their weight or appearance also comes from people in their personal lives.

Rathmines is the first place I ever lived in Ireland.

As a foreigner, I immediately loved the friendly, multicultural atmosphere and the fact that there are so many places to do your shopping, go out for a drink or a bite.

Actually, after spending two years of my life here, I strongly believe that it is by far the best place to live in Dublin, and here's my reasoning:

1. Location, location, location

A post shared by Fahmy (@onceuponawander) on

Rathmines is incredibly close to the city centre yet feels like a little village; 25 minutes walk at most, and barely a few bus stops separate it from Grafton street.

2. Swan Leisure Centre

A post shared by Swan Leisure (@swanleisure) on

A cheap gym with countless classes, a swimming pool and even a steam room for 30 euros a month. Literally no excuse not to exercise.

3. The Stella Theatre

A post shared by Eimear Claffey (@eimearclaffey) on

The recently reopened cinema shows some new releases as well as classics in the most amazing setting.

Before or after your film, pop into the gorgeous bar upstairs for a delicious cocktail and feel like you are in New York for a minute.

4. Fia

A post shared by Fia (@fia_cafe) on

Technically, Fia is on Rathgar Road, but I choose to consider it a part of Rathmines. This cute cafe offers by far one of the best brunches in Dublin served by the friendliest staff.

5. The food offer in general

A post shared by HEY DONNA (@heydonnadublin) on

Hey Donna, Farmer Browns, Two Fifty Square, Manifesto, Little Ass Burrito, Fallon & Byrne, wherever you are looking, there is a lovely affordable place to eat. And we are not even mentioning the Deliveroo options.

6. The pub scene

A post shared by Guto Piazza (@gutopiazzamusic) on

From the young and hip Blackbird to the classic old man pub Slaterry's, Mother Reilly's or Rody Boland, it can actually become hard to pick where to go for a pint with friends. And if you feel like going "out out", Copan is great craic!

‘This event is for those who cannot make the rally at Belfast High Court. Brings signs and placards to show your support,’ reads the Dublin rally Facebook event.

‘There is a lot of anger and upset among women who have observed the treatment of the victim in this case and found it harrowing and re-traumatising.’

‘Let’s show our solidarity to this woman and all women who have been mistreated by the justice system and the way it deals with sexual crimes.’

3 steps to choosing the right swimsuit

Shopping for a swimsuit may sound like a painful and futile task. But this could be because you haven’t ever found one that fits your body perfectly. Here are a few steps you need to follow to make sure the swim suit that you choose is the best for your body type.

Step #1: Knowing your body type

You need to measure three things before you determine your body type: your bust at its fullest point, your waist at its smallest point, and your hips at the widest point. Here are a few things you need to know, to figure out your body shape:

  • If your bust and waist are significantly smaller than your hips, you probably have a pear-shaped body.
  • If your waist is as wide as your bust, but wider than your hips, apple shape is what you might call your body.
  • If your waist is significantly smaller and your bust and hips are of an equal width, your body shape resembles that of an hourglass.
  • If you are thin all over and if there is not much of a difference in the measurements of your bust, waist, and hips, your body is straight like a banana or a ruler.

Step #2: Choose the right color and fabric

You want your swimsuit to draw the eye to the most flattering part of your body, while making you look your best. Here are a few things you can follow:

  • If there is a particular feature you want to highlight go for a bright color or pattern
  • If you want to hide something try going for a solid color
  • If your skin is pale go for colors like black, maroon, navy, or dark purple
  • If you are dark-skinned you will look good in a bright colored swimsuit
  • If you want to add some volume to a particular area, make sure the swimsuit has ruffles in that area
  • If you want to hide volume, you can try a swimsuit with a ruched or shirred fabric

Step #3: Check for the right cut

Here are a few things that can help you choose a swimsuit with the right cut:

  • If you want to hide your waist, go for a one-piece in a dark, solid color, or with shirred panels at the stomach. You can even go for a high-waisted bathing-beauty bottom of the 1940s style.
  • A tankini would be good to highlight your waist.
  • If you want your hips to look wider, you can try Boyshorts.
  • If you want to make your legs look longer try high-cut bikini bottoms
  • If you want to draw the eye to your bust, you can buy a halter top or a triangle top. A tie-front bikini top can pull your breasts together, making them look larger, while a Bandeau top can make your bust seem wider.
  • For those with larger busts, swimsuits with straight across cuts at the top and wide set straps may be the best.

If you don’t find swimsuits that match your body type perfectly, you can always buy separates. Whatever you buy, make sure it fits your body measurements and makes you look absolutely stunning.
