Aside from a brief affair with the teapot, the duckface has been the go-to selfie position since Bebo was a thing, but it seems the pouty pose may have to make room for a new kid on the block.

Welcome “fingermouthing” – the strategic positioning of the fingers in front of the mouth to give the classic snapping look a slightly more natural-looking element.

The benefits of fingermouthing include showing off your latest batch of gel nails, being able to cover up any unsightly blemishes and making you look like you could be thinking about something other than, well, fingermouthing.

This selfie position is super versatile and can be altered to suit any individual needs you might have by tilting the head, slightly opening the mouth and splaying the fingers more than might actually be necessary.

The stance is most commonly used by bloggers and celebrities and with basically every Kardashian-Jenner being a fan, we’re sure this trend is not going away anytime soon.

Love them or loathe them, the Kardashian family are going nowhere.

Public fascination with reality TV stars coupled with the family's innate desire to feed that fascination with the help of complex love lives and dysfunctional relationships means the Kardashian family will, whether you like it or not, always be prime watercooler fodder.

And with Kylie and Kendall carving names for themselves, and the arrival of Mason, Penelope, North, Reign and Saint, we're already gearing up for KUWTK: The Next Generation after Kim, Kourtney and Khloé finally decide to go live in their walk-in wardrobes and never emerge.

And by examining this obsession with the Calabasas clan, one University of Durham has just earned herself a first-class degree.

Sociology student, Eliza Cummings-Gove, was told she was 'ridiculous' for devoting her 10,000 word dissertation to the famous family, but it looks like the powers that be had other ideas, and awarded the 20-year-old Londoner the highest honour.

"I think there is a lot of cultural snobbery about it," Eliza said. "The Kardashians are everywhere in the media and they are shaping many of the girls today into the women they will become."

"In my dissertation I didn't have enough words to talk about the men in the family and their role in a post-feminist world," she explained. "The relationship between women and their partners, ex-partners and, in Rob's case, their brother is a really interesting and complex."

Eliza, who admits she was 'euphoric' upon hearing of her results, explained that she watched 80 hours of the reality show as part of her research.

80 hours? That's basically us when we have a duvet weekend…

Look, we're going to be honest here – very few of us shave our legs for the good of our health.

We generally pick up a razor when we think we're a day away from having people barf into a hedge over the sight of our hairy ankles, and we generally only grab a loofah and exfoliate like there's no tomorrow when it looks like the no-pants-dance might be on the horizon.

And it looks like we're not the only ones who operate in this manner if a recent (and absolutely hilarious) Imgur upload is anything to go by.

After spending time prepping for the arrival of her other half, this girl was NOT impressed by the curt message she received that informed her she had basically shaved, exfoliated and moisturised for NO DAMN REASON.

Sending a series of post-shower selfies to her 'babe', this girl spoke for all womankind when she wrote: "So, you're telling me that I shaved, exfoliated and moisturized for nothing."

And in a act of sisterhood for which we should all be thankful, she entitled her upload: "PSA: Please give an hour's warning, minimum."

Lads, you've been warned.

PSA: Please give an hours warning, minimum.

Unless you’ve been living under a giant impermeable rock for the last month, you will have been bombarded with PDAs by Taylor Swift and her new boyfriend Tom Hiddleston.

Between “I LOVE T. SWIFT” tank tops and jetting around the world to meet their other halves' parents it feels like TayTom have been together for years – rather than the mere month it’s actually been.

If you’re totally fed up with the happy couple then you’ll be happy to hear you are in very good company as a new picture of Ryan Reynolds has emerged in which the star looks totally tiddled off with Hiddleswift.

The image – which was uploaded to Instagram last night by the Bad Blood singer’s childhood friend – shows Taylor sitting on Tom’s lap looking totally loved up (as usual) while Blake Lively gazes happily at the couple.

But sitting beneath Blake is a very uncomfortable Ryan Reynolds whose face literally says what that world is thinking: “How the hell did we get to this?”

As with all picture perfect moments the Internet is having an absolute field day over the snap.

Take a look:

Some people simply aren't the DMC type, so when you have a DMC-related subject to share with people you love, you really have to get creative.

Deciding it was more in keeping with her personality to come out to her family while riding Disneyland's Splash Mountain, one Californian teen went for it in recent weeks.

Explaining her decision to BuzzFeed, 16-year-old Gina explained: "I am not the type of person to have a deep, sit-down conversation, so I wanted to tell them in a lighthearted and fun way."

After hiding a sign which announced the news to her family, she hopped on in, readied her announcement and posed for the camera in a move which has delighted the internet since it started doing the rounds this week.

"I love funny ride photos so I figured I could make the sign just in case I decided to go for it, and I did," she explained, and her 'super accepting' family were all OVER it.

After sharing the snap on Twitter, Gina revealed she has been inundated with supportive comments, saying: "People have responded saying I’ve inspired them to do the same thing, which I think is the coolest part of it all."

"This Twitter account was just my spam account where I posted random fangirl stuff but I decided it couldn’t hurt to post it and the result was absolutely amazing,"

Props Gina, props.

If social media is anything to go by in the last two days, hell hath no fury like an American scorned on July 4th.

And while we're pretty sure most people found Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston's July 4th celebrations more inappropriate than Kaley Cuoco's Independence Day slip-up, that hasn't stopped the Big Bang Theory actress from dropping to her knees and grovelling like there's no tomorrow.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the popular actress paid tribute to her country by sharing a snap of her three pets chilling out on an American flag, and people are NOT happy.

"Thank you @the_pet_handler for taking care of the squad while im out of town! 4th of July pups!" wrote Kaley in a move which Instagram users have deemed inappropriate on so many levels.

"Showing disrespect for the flag, it should never touch the ground, or let your pet stand on it!" wrote one while another remarked: "That's not a towel. I believe in the right to burn the flag in protest as long as it's in context, that's why so many people gave their lives, for freedom."

"But this is not that, this is simply disrespectful," they added "That's a flag. A symbol of what people have sacrificed for."

Acknowledging her major misstep, Kaley swiftly deleted the offending image before replacing it with heart-shaped stars and stripes snap.

I would like to comment on a photo I posted yesterday , that has caused lots of controversy. First off, please know, I have the utmost respect for my country. I am a proud American in every sense of the word. I understand the American flag stands for our freedom and represents American heroes , past and present. Yesterday I made a mistake by posting the picture that was taken of my sweet dogs posing on an American flag. I sincerely apologize to anyone that has been offended by my previous post. This is no way reflects my feelings toward what the American flag represents. Living in the public eye, can be extremely difficult at times. Every mistake and every imperfection is amplified. I am not perfect. I am a proud American, today, tomorrow, always.

At this stage Harry Styles is almost as famous for his dark curly hair as he is for his place in One Direction, so naturally when a picture of him without his luscious locks finally emerged people were a little bit upset.

The singer’s sister Gemma took to Snapchat to reveal his new ‘do in a picture that shows a short-haired Harry looking at his star-patterned shirt.

The image is captioned: “Independence Day shirt….? No…?  Did I…?”

But of course once the One D fans caught sight of Harry’s hair (or lack thereof) they lost all interest in his shirt and took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the star’s famous curls.

According to the Metro, Harry cut off his hair for his role in the movie Dunkirk two months ago.

He has donated the hair to The Little Princess Trust – a charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their own due to cancer treatment.

Since Harry's hair has gone to such an important cause we're hopeful the One Directioners will find a way to forgive him…eventually.

It seems like the 4th of July weekend was a love-filled one for the Kardashian-Jenner crew as not not only was Khloe seen kissing rapper Trey Songs in Vegas, Kendall was also spotted out with LA Lakers player Jordan Clarkson.

Earlier this year it was reported by PEOPLE that the pair had already been secretly dating for months and then in April they were spotted getting cute at Coachella, but now a source has finally told E! News that they are actually "casually dating".

This weekend they were spotted at the Beverly Hills Hotel and Bootsy Bellows’ 'Annual Red, White and Bootsy' Party together but E's source has revealed the 24-year-old Texan also spent time with Kendall at a luxurious Airbnb in Malibu – an Airbnb which costs a cool $2,200 a night to stay in.

But Kendall is not going to get too caught up in the relationship just yet as the source said the pair are trying to keep things laid back for now and revealed they are still free to see other people.

So while they are “casually dating”, the relationship is “not anything very serious” as neither Kendall or Jordan are looking for a big relationship right now.

Another insider said the pair are eager to keep their relationship “on the down-low in public”.

The bottom line?  These two really are keeping it casual.

An astonishing investigation into steroid-use in this country gives a glimpse into just how prolific drug-taking is among fitness fans.

“Anecdotal evidence suggests that thousands of young Irish men in particular are taking and using steroids,” RTÉ Radio 1 reporter Brian O’Connell revealed on this morning’s Today With Sean O’Rourke.

The drug is usually used to boost body image and to add on muscle or bulk in an unnaturally short space of time.

Strains include trenbolone, a hormone for bulls, and boldenone (also known as Equipoise), a hormone for racehorses.

And while it remains a taboo issue, the RTÉ report highlights that it is no longer merely confined to an extreme, underground body-building world.

“It’s something that we’ve been hearing for several years – that usage among young Irish males has been steadily rising,” Brian reiterated on the show this morning.

As part of the segment, he interviewed two steroid-users – both of whom spoke anonymously – and the insight into their world is shocking.

“You normally inject in the bum – for the simple reason that there’s more bulk there and also because it doesn’t show as easily,” explains the first case-study, who has been using for several years.

“Steroids have always been a part of the scene, and anyone who says different is wrong,” he adds. “But what wasn’t a part of it previously was the volume of steroids taken by people.

“And the type of people has changed too. In the past it was just your hard-core serious athletes. You certainly didn’t have young guys watching the likes of Geordie Shore and then taking it.”

He went on to say that while he didn’t feel like an ‘addict’ if a young person still in their teens approached him and looked for advice on steroids, he’d “advise them against using at such a young age”.

He went on to explain that young men who get caught up when they're 17, 18, or 19 were struggling to maintain a ‘normal’ level of testosterone once they hit their 20s. “If you put something synthetic into your body, the natural production of it stops,” he said, “so their sex drive is dropping down to nothing.”

And it seems more and more people from a wider variety of sports are dabbling in steroid usage too: despite the health risks, rugby players, GAA players, rowers, soccer players and more are interested in what the drug can offer them.

“I was asked by a guy recently – and he was just playing junior GAA football – for something to increase his stamina,” Brian O’Connell was told.

Last year, Made In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews was asked to leave the I'm A Celebrity jungle when he admitted that he was taking steroids.

He later described the decision as "one of the biggest regrets" of his life, and said he took the drug "completely out of vanity" because he wanted to "look good in the shower".

The 26-year-old furthermore revealed that he was first offered steroids while training for a charity boxing match.

In Ireland it is illegal to procure anabolic steroids without a prescription or from anywhere other than a pharmacy. In the last four years, 150,000 steroid units have been seized by customs – a figure that’s widely considered to be the tip of the iceberg.

The problem is now so extensive that a new drop-in service specifically for steroid users will be provided by Merchant’s Quay Ireland from the end of this month.

The Dublin-based organisation says that over the past two years, more and more young men between the ages of 18 and 35 have contacted them for clean needles.

In fact, this group now accounts for more than 10 per cent of the men who come into the exchange.

“I started using steroids when I was about 18 or 19 through a friend. I was always into fitness from a young age – into the Bruce Lee films and all that,” a second user told the RTÉ show.

“I was training and I was in shape but I wanted to put on size; I always felt I was too thin. With steroids I felt once you use them right you put on size quickly.

“In a week and a half I put on a stone and a half of muscle – I went up to 15 and a half stone eventually.”

He added that at times he was injecting himself on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – and then again on Sundays, spending around €300 on a course that would last six weeks.

The response to today’s show has been significant; among the online commentators was The Blizzard’s Niall Breslin, who took to Twitter to say that the “psychological implications” of steroid use were also “horrifying”.

Another commented: “Instagram really pushing body image and steroids too. Gymbunny 17 year olds with no body fat and huge muscle mass.”

Anabolic steroid abuse has been associated with side effects including acne, loss of sex drive, and breast development in men. More serious issues include life threatening conditions such as heart attacks and liver cancer. Most are reversible if the abuser stops taking the drugs.

Earlier this year, anabolic steroids and prescription-only erectile dysfunction drugs were discovered by The Sunday Times on sale via the Irish website donedeal.ie.

If your collection of Community Games medals started to peter out once you started rocking your first AA bra, you’re not alone.

While most of us threw ourselves into PE in primary school and considered after-school GAA sessions more craic than we could handle, this enthusiasm abruptly waned as we began navigating the minefield that is puberty.

As friendship groups don’t tend to develop at the same time – Thanks for that, Mother Nature – puberty and its onset felt like a round-the-clock assessment of yourself and your team mates.

While some girls were busy taping their boobs beneath their GAA jerseys, and even more were refusing point-blank to wear small white shorts, others were watching from the sidelines questioning why they were still rocking a cami-top and wondering if cramps really did justify that extra bag of Haribo at the end of a match.

And along with these feelings of awkwardness, flashes of confusion, bouts of self-consciousness and days of discomfort, a huge number of us decided it simply wasn’t worth the effort and ultimately hung up our football boots and downed our camogie sticks.

And nothing’s changing.

According to the most recent Always Confidence and Puberty Survey, 64% of girls will have quit sport by the end of puberty while a staggering 80% admit that they don’t feel they belong in sport – something which former Olympian Sonia O’Sullivan wants to address with the #LikeAGirl campaign.

“For me, it’s about being a role model and trying to inspire girls not to give up,” says Sonia. “We all go through it, but puberty can be such a challenging time for girls, who may feel really self-conscious about lots of things and start thinking you can’t or shouldn’t do certain activities.”

And while, in theory, it sounds totally doable, it’s a lot less clean-cut when you're crippled by feelings of self-doubt and struggle to play to the best of your ability due to physiological changes which only 43 bars of chocolate and a hotwater bottle can fix.

Acknowledging that all of this can wreak havoc on a girl's confidence in both her ability on the pitch and herself, Sonia urges: “Ride the storm. Accept that there will be challenging times when you participate in sport, but remember you WILL get over this hump.”

“Accept that sometimes things will hold you back and you may not be as good as once were, but remember your time will come around again." she urges. "Lower your expectations of yourself for now and remember why you took part to begin with."

In a time when phrases like #FitFam and #LadiesWhoLift have made it into everyday vernacular, we all know the benefits of keeping fit and staying active, but when you’re a 16-year-old girl with a head full of doubts and a body with what seems like a mind of its own, sport mightn’t seem like the answer.

But it seems it actually can be, or will – at the very least – help more than hinder.

“Everybody needs down-time and a release,” Sonia acknowledges. “Participating in sport can give focus, increase confidence and help with doubts or fears.”

And for those ladies who have refused to step back from the sport they love, but resent the lack of interest in female sport, Sonia’s with you on that one.

“I was going through the papers today,” she began. “And even with Wimbledon, there was spread after spread on the mens’, and only a small amount on the women.”

The former Olympian acknowledges that in many sports, women appear to need more than just ability and talent to get the media coverage they deserve, but can’t wait for a time when this is no longer the case.

“Sport is sport," she insisted. "Not mens’ sport or womens’ sport. Sport is sport.”

You heard the woman, and we just wish our 15-year-old selves had too.
