Megan Barton-Hanson has spoken out to discuss the comparative comments made between her and Vanessa Baeur following her split from Wes Nelson.

Megan began dating Wes following their stint on last summer's season of Love Island. Wes was then cast on Dancing On Ice, where we was partnered up with Vanessa Baeur, a professional figure skater.

While Wes was on the show, he and Megan split, with many believing that Megan was not happy with Vanessa and Wes' budding friendship, after Megan posted to Instagram to chastise her for never introducing herself to Megan.

Speaking at The GLAMOUR Beauty Festival 2019, she discussed how hurt she had felt, after fans of both Love Island and Dancing On Ice made comparisons between Megan and Vanessa.

'I think a big thing was his Dancing On Ice partner. She is so the polar opposite to me, I've got a very womanly figure and I have curves, I don't go to the gym,' she said.

'She's very toned and athletic and natural and people are like: 'see that's who he deserves, a real natural person'.'

However, she does not believe that she and Wes ended based on anything as superficial as looks.

'I think Wes is, was, deeper than that. It's not about the outside shell…it's about the person you are in love with so I just have to put that to one side and you can't please everyone.'

Megan also detailed how her new found fame does not make her immune to the hurtful comments:

'I'm not going to lie, it hurts, I'm human. Just because I have a blue tick next to my name and on a show for a couple of weeks, it doesn't make me invincible, it still hurts.'

'Everyone will have their own opinion. Only me and him know what actually happened'

Sinéad Moriarty added: “The books we’ve chosen for our first selection of Must Reads for 2019 range from the hilarious to the heart-rending and are perfect reads for this time of year. We’ve chosen books that suit everyone, from those who read to relax to those who read to learn more about the modern world. This selection really has something for everyone.”

This spring, ‘Sinéad and Rick’s Must Reads’ features eight exciting, inspirational and moving titles including:

Professor Chandra follows his Bliss by Rajeev Balasubramanyam

A book that is as quirky and charming as its title. Professor Chandra is obsessed with winning the Nobel Prize for economics that he feels he richly deserves. But when he finds out that once again, he has not won, he starts to fall apart. This is a tender, at times hilarious, look at life which is at once both funny and moving. If you loved The Rosie Project, then this book is definitely for you!

The Red Address Book by Sofia Lundberg

96 year old Doris knows she has not much time left and wants to make sure her grand-niece knows all about her colourful and difficult life before it’s too late. Using her address book where she has detailed all the names of the people who have meant the most to her, Doris relates the story of her life. A captivating portrayal of how the elderly have rich and fascinating histories and lives that we can and should learn from.

When All is Said by Anne Griffin

Maurice Hannigan is sitting at a hotel bar in his hometown. As the night wears on he raises a toast to each of five characters who have played important roles and helped shape him and his life. This is a beautiful, tender, heart-wrenching book about loss, grief and regret – a stunning read.

The Mercy Seat by Elizabeth Hartley Winthrop

Inspired by true events, this is the tale of Willie, an eighteen-year-old black man who is awaiting the death penalty for having raped a white girl. But as the book progresses, we begin to question whether he is actually guilty, or, if he was set up? Told from nine different points of view, the reader is drawn in from the very first page as each of the characters share their stories, and we gradually piece together the real truth.

The Last Ones Left Alive by Sarah Davis-Goff

Orpen has been raised by two women, her mother and her partner Maeve, on a remote island off the West coast. When Maeve is bitten by one of the ravenous beasts who now roam the country, Orpen has to set off with her, their dog, and a wheelbarrow to find civilisation before it’s too late. A cracking post-apocalyptic thriller, with elements of Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’.

How To Lose Your Country by Ece Temelkuran

Ece is a Turkish journalist, political commentator and author who lives in exile – here, she walks you through the seven steps of how a populist movement can take control of a country, starting with her home country and Hungary and then moving closer to home and looking at Brexit and Trump. An important, current and very readable book about the populist playbook and how it threatens to engulf us all.

If Only I Could Tell You by Hannah Beckerman

Audrey has two grown up daughters, both with children of their own, but both sides are estranged ever since a split in the family which happened years earlier causes deep and irreconcilable differences. As the plot unravels, and we get acquainted with each of the main characters, we begin to realise the terrible situations they’re all in as the stakes for each of them rapidly increase. A beautifully written and very impressive novel.

Daisy Jones And The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Billy and his band The Six are getting noticed in the late 60s and are starting to hit the big time. Daisy is an “It” girl who wants to sing her own songs. This is the story of their band’s meteoric rise to fame from the points of view of everyone who was there – and the reader has to decide who (or what!) they want to believe. An incredibly entertaining read – the movie rights have already been snapped up by Reese Witherspoon – well worth reading before it before it hits the big screen.

It's always refreshing when a celeb speaks candidly about what they're going through – because life isn't all sunshine and rainbows as we know.

'It’s had a huge impact. Now that I’m a reality TV star it’s annoying that people don't see you as a real person. Twelve months ago, I was a nuclear design engineer and now I’m going through a breakup – that’s a normal thing for a 20-year-old lad.'

Megan has not recently commented on the split, but did say that comments made on social media which compared her physically to Wes' DOI dance partner Vanessa Bauer we're extremely hurtful.

Tips to get Curly Hair Without Heat: The Ultimate Guide

After reading this article, you will comfortably do away with all the curling irons in your possession. Tools that expose your hair to heat are very dangerous to your shafts as they tend to raise the cuticles off the surface thus allowing them to lose valuable moisture. The good news is you don’t need curling tools in your house to get the perfect curls. You can use the savvy tools lying around you to get that beach looks. Here a few ways to make them before you can take a coffee whip in the morning.

Pin curls

Though the process seems old fashioned, it remains to be one of the easiest ways to achieve your curls without application of heat. The basic requirement is pinning your hair all round with pins before going to bed, and you will gladly wake up looking gorgeous. The method is this simple;

Wash your hair with volumizing shampoo, and condition it. To detangle it, use a wide-toothed comb.

Squeeze out excess water with a towel.

Apply hair gel on your head. You could also use other products that make your fold your hair in position.

Separate your crown hair from the rest as you will work on it last.

If you decide to work from your side, wrap the end of your strands on your index finger and roll them up to create a loop. Hold it down with pins. Repeat this with the other sections. Lastly, work on your crown and shape it according to your desired look.

Sleep in a silk scarf and only remove the pins in the morning. Never make the mistake of blow-drying your curls as they will not only fizzy out but also remove the kinks.

Braiding

The easiest way to achieve your perfect waves is by braiding your hair when it is partially wet. If you want full waves, use French or box braids. As for this, ensure that the shafts are tightly fixed together to avoid the frizzing looks when you open your hair. Only undo the hair if completely dry. This is mostly recommended in the morning. Once you open them up, finger comb through and finish with hairspray or other products that hold your hair.

Bantu Knots

This is one of the most natural but most effective methods of getting springy curls. These knots are applicable in all hair textures. In the end, you will be lucky to get some well-defined curls with a calming frizz. After washing and conditioning your hair, wait until your hair is 80% dry. Take a small section of your hair, apply hair gel on it and twist it around itself until it makes a twisted bun that resembles a rope. Secure the knot with bobbly pins. Repeat this until you’re your hair is all knotted up.

Ensure that you sleep in a shower cap to retain the moisture. In the morning, undo all the curls one by one. Finger comb them through and finish with hairspray to hold them.

Paper towel method

The other alternative to achieve your springy curls is by using paper towel roll instead of the conventional heat rollers. The first step is dampening your hair by the use of a water spray or a quick wash. Take a few inches of your hair and roll them around the middle of the paper towel. Roll it upwards towards your scalp.  To ensure that it is well-secured, tie down the paper towel. Sleep in your rolls until the next day when you undo them. Finger comb them and finish with hair spray to hold the curls together.

Twist buns

In this style, you may decide to wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo. After this, part your hair into two and work on each section at a time. Make a pigtail of the first part and twist it until it resembles a rope. Ensure that you wrap the rope around itself to make a bun. Secure it with pins. Repeat the process on the other section of undone hair. Once your hair is dehydrated, you can undo the twists by running through your fingers. The finish ought to be a sea-salt spray for more volume.

You don’t have to subject your hair to more heat from now onwards. Head will not only damage your hair but consume most of your time. With these methods, you can achieve your curls that last for about 2 or 3 days.

Rumours have been floating about that actress Kate Beckinsale has found love with comedian Pete Davidson.

To which Pete responded: 'Oh yeah! Apparently people have a crazy fascination with our age difference, but it doesn’t really bother us.'

'But then again, I'm new to this.'

Drawing attention to the fact that men often have age gap relationships with younger women, he continued:

'So if you have questions about a relationship with a big age difference, just ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere…'

Good point, Pete.

Why Do Horse Racing Festivals Have Ladies’ Days?

Source: Pixabay

With the Cheltenham Festival just around the corner, there will plenty of racing action to fill the sports pages but much of the media focus will also be on Ladies’ Day. Ladies’ day falls on the Wednesday of the festival and is the one day when the focus is as much on the fashion as it is the horses. This tradition is not limited to Cheltenham; the Aintree Festival, Royal Ascot, and the Epsom Derby are among the other horse racing events which have a Ladies’ Day, which often attracts celebrity guests. But where did this tradition come from? And which one is the best?

Origins in Ascot

There are a few theories as to why Ladies’ Day exists. The first festival to host a Ladies’ Day was Royal Ascot. And it is thought the final day originally became known as Ladies’ Day in honour of Queen Anne, who founded the event back in 1711. Ladies day was later switched to Thursday, the same day as the prestigious Ascot Gold Cup race. In 1823, an anonymous poet referred to “Ladies’ Day” as the day “when the women, like angels, look sweetly divine.” It is also believed that women were even offered discounted or free entry on this day to dilute the male dominance of such events.

Ladies’ Day but not in name

Despite being the first festival to have such a day, the Royal Ascot organisers have not used the term “Ladies’ Day” for as long as anyone can remember. It does not appear in any of their official marketing or promotional material and there are no references to it on their website. Yet it remains a tradition for Thursday at Ascot to be a celebration of high fashion and glamour. Organisers have suggested that they do not want Thursday at Ascot to be confused with other Ladies’ Days where prizes are handed out and competitions are held. It is more about looking smart and making an impression on a day when the Queen is often present.

Competitions and prizes

Elsewhere, things are a little more relaxed. At Kelso racecourse, for example, competition is the name of the game on Ladies’ Day. There are prizes for best-dressed lady, best-dressed couple and, of course, best hat. At Aintree in Liverpool, where the Grand National Festival is held in April, the winner of the Ladies’ Day Style Award gets to take a home a brand new car, while the best-dressed lady in 2020 will be awarded a year’s supply of dresses from Chi Chi in London. Now we are talking!

Cheltenham Festival also has awards for best-dressed lady, best accessories, and best hat. So, it’s not just those who make the right selections in the latest Cheltenham betting and odds from William Hill who stand a chance of winning. Anyone could walk away with a brand new car or similar prize just for coming on top in the style and fashion stakes.

At the 2019 Epsom Derby Ladies’ Day, prizes from the Jockey Club included a seven-night stay in Mauritius for two, including flights; a year’s supply of Chi Chi London outfits; and a bespoke consultation and headpiece from Jessica Rea millinery. Now you can understand why people go to such great lengths to stand out from the crowd.

Which is the best?

Ladies’ Day has been around for at least two centuries and looks set to continue well into the future. They are all fantastic days out that give racegoers the chance to dress up, look good, and feel good while witnessing some of the best horse races in the world. But of all the Ladies’ Day, we prefer the one at Cheltenham – it just has that right balance of glamour and fun.

Applying fake tan can be quite an ordeal, especially when bronzing those hard to reach places.

Luckily, we can usually convince our housemate or friends at pre drinks to get our back nicely tanned before hitting the town.

One boyfriend who is often roped into helping his lovely fiance apply her faux glow posted a rant to the Bondi Sands Facebook page about the challenge faced by his fellow men when it comes to giving their girlfriends the deep tan they desire.

"Dear Bondi sands,my fiancé, much like many other women out there enjoy your tanning products and she has no complaint whatsoever. But I do…"

"I, and what I could assume that many other men out there, must assist our lovely partners in their tanning procedure and this includes applying your tanning foam to places they are unable to reach."

"My only and one complaint is that your application mitt is not suitable for my hands. I am, what could be assumed as average size, and can only think that this mitt does not fit many other mans hands out there."

“Please, in future make the mitt bigger or include an extra mitt for those men out there that must assist the women they love,” he finished.

And as it turns out, the fake tan boyfriends of the world agree with him: "Finally someone said it!" commented one Facebook user.

The post has over 40,000 likes and 10,000 comments, but Bondi Sands has yet to respond.

Festival season is officially around the corner, and with all the chat about Longitude and Indiependence, we're getting a little nostalgic for the ghosts of festivals past.

Oxegen was one of the first music festival experiences many Irish folk had, and despite it's slightly scaldy reputation towards the end, the three-day rager will always have a special place in our hearts.

Here's why:

10. All….that….mud….

You could have made a clay pot for your granny with all the mud you had to sluice out of your clothes after the great Oxegen mud slide of 2011.

The mud-spattered masses never let the germ level and quicksand-like consistency of the mud deter them.

9. The amount of teenyboppers

Perhaps you hated them or perhaps you were even one of them.

You'd never get away with it now, but for some reason the collective age of quite a few people at the rager of a festival seemed to sometimes be on the wrong side of 18.

8. Festival huns

As Oxegen was around in the time period when it was still socially acceptable to don a massive flower crown or a Native American headdress as the male equivalent, the sites were rife with them.

Your Oxegen wardrobe wasn't complete without the biggest garland of flowers you could find teamed with a pair of Penneys denim hot pants.

Image result for festival huns

7. The microphone man

If there was one foolproof way to amuse yourself on the way into Oxegen it was to listen to the dulcet tones of the microphone man that blared out over the campsites.

For humorous musings mixed with safety information and instructions, he was your man.

6. Baby wipes

The showering services at the festival left quite a lot to be desired, so making friends with your neighbour to nab a few baby wipes was the name of the game.

Used to clear the mud off your wellies and the sweat from your brow, venturing into the campsite without some wet wipes was a bit fat nope for anyone who cared abut personal hygiene.

Image result for festival hygiene

5. Portaloo problems

Okay, this one isn't exclusive to Oxegen, but it happened a hell of a lot.

Some bunch of eejits would knock over half the Portaloos in the middle of the night hoping that some poor soul was trapped within. For their sake we hope there never was.

4. The Dutch Gold vendors

Seeing as pints are exorbitantly priced inside any festival arena, there would always be a few lads tipping around Oxegen on the Sunday, trying to sell off their spare cans after being over-zealous in the alcohol department pre-festival.

Usually, the lukewarm and slightly muddy cans would be sold for the highly competitive rate of three for a tenner, and us drought-driven desperados would always commit to the purchase.

3. Tent flipping

Tent flipping was a national pastime at the Punchestown festival.

Fingers crossed your tent wasn't in the firing line for this annoying as f*** degenerate hobby.

Image result for why tho

2. Tent burning

A step up from tent flipping, this crime was ony executed by the biggest twats imaginable.

Sometimes they'd burn their own tents just for the fun of it. Arson isn't cool, kids.

Image result for tent on fire

1. Paying 10 quid for a hot chicken roll and a can of Coke

Extortion is the only word for the price of the food in the campsite shops.

After you battled through the masses to get to the shop, then queued for what felt like hours for your roll, only then to discover that the price of your roll is practically the same as your ticket into the entire festival.

Despite all the chat about the younger generations being promiscuous, Tinder-loving, bed-hopping deviants, a new study has shown that millenials are actually lonelier than other age groups.

57 percent of 5000 millennials polled in a new study admitted that they are lonely, but despite the forever-alone feels they are actively looking for love.

Millennials are 125 percent more likely to admit that they are addicted to making potential romantic connect ions with others, compared to other generations, which reflects out smart phone-obsessed way of life.

The way that technology has enabled people to connect in our generation is extraordinary, but millennials are 22 percent more likely to feel that the dating technology holds them back from finding true romance, or makes the pursuit of love more difficult.

This isn't surprising really when some dating apps and websites, on which 57 percent of millennials admit to having a profile, encourage users to make a judgement based purely on looks rather than deeper connective traits like intelligence, personality and common morals.

Some technological turn offs that the study revealed were people who openly complain about things on Facebook and people who are constantly on their social media accounts instead of focusing on real life. We know a few people who could do with reading that statistic.

The study, conducted by Match.com, also found that, while millennials may be lonelier, we are less likely to see sex before the first date as a bad thing.

In fact, up to 48 percent of millennial couples have already slept together before their first date, having met randomly and hooked up in the heat of the moment.

Looking for love in 2017? 30 percent of the population are in the same boat, so surely there are enough girlfriends and boyfriends for everyone.

It's not surprising that millennials are feeling the heat when it comes to coupling off, as our generation are 117 percent more likely to get overwhelmed over the pressure of marriage. So if all our aunties could stop asking us when he's putting a ring on it, that would be fab.

While it would be nie to catch feelings in time for Valentine's Day, being single isn't all that bad, right?
