Gin and tonic has been having a prolonged moment, but there is another up-and-coming drink angling for the top spot.

The Aperol Spritz is here to conquer summer, with everyone from Ireland's foodie influencers to the ladies who brunch enjoying a sip of the stuff.

The drink has been around for years, but summer 2017 is set to be the season of the spritz, and we're ready for a change.

According to new Google Trend data, the Aperol Spritz is currently leading the way in the trendiness charts for Irish summer drinkers.

The drink is at peak popularity, just ahead of gin, and has seen a meteoric rise to fame, as did it's juniper-blended nemesis.

The distinctive orange drink first became popular back in the 1950s after the aperitif was imported from Italy.

Vogue has dubbed the drink as the one to watch this summer, but what is in the beverage exactly?

Well, the distinctive drink is made up of three parts Prosecco, two parts Aperol and one part sparkling water.

The advised garnishings include orange wedges and green olives.

The beverage has been enjoyed on the continent for years, with 200,000 gallons of the orange aperitif being consumed in France in 2015, according to World Crunch, so Ireland is slightly behind the times when it comes to the latest Aperol popularity surge, but hey, we've got all summer to catch up.

Irish style influencer and Head of Digital, Global Retail at Dior, trend expert Ashley McDonnell is based in Paris, and knows exactly why the drink is so popular across the channel.

'Everyone knows we love wine in France. In the winter it's hearty reds, in spring a chilled white, and summer is all about a glass of rosé by the Seine,' she explained to SHEmazing

'However, over the last few years our Italian neighbours have been providing us with their own take on a cocktail that involves a good grape but in the form of the unmistakable orange cocktail: Aperol Spritz.'

'The perfect marriage of Prosecco, soda, a slice of orange and Aperol to top it all off is taking over in Paris.'

'It’s quickly becoming the beverage of choice especially as the city heats up again, bringing some of the Italian Dolce Vita to the City of Lights, a much welcomed freshness to the long hot summer ahead,' she finished.

Aperol Spritz at the So Prosecco pop-up at Taste of Dublin

The drink even made an appearance at So Prosecco at Taste of Dublin, where the city's finest eateries congregated to showcase their trendiest and tastiest wares last weekend.

As Well + Good put it, it's about the 'desire to get buzzed—not blitzed,' and with a summer of outdoor brunching and beer garden get-togethers ahead, we couldn't be more ready for the season of spritz.

Drinks anyone?

Miley Cyrus has her fans up in arms about why she has deleted her Instagram posts.

The singer has also changed her profile picture to a black circle on the gram, Twitter and her website. – Interesting.

We have no idea what this could possibly mean, so we turned to the Internet for answers. – Cue all the fan theories.

Some have dared to dream that new music could be imminent.

Others are speculating that it's the end of the singers and Liam Hemsworth relationship. – (Although, we are completely refusing to believe this, or all love is forever dead.)

However, we will miss all the ADORABLE pictures she posted of them.

Sticking to the more plausible music theory, Miley will be following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift if she uses the social media blackout as a way to drop new tracks.

Tay-tay famously wiped her socials before the release of her album 'reputation'.

Here is hoping we are spoilt with some new tunes – to say we are excited – is an understatement.

Get ready to wipe those jaws off the floor as tonight's Love Island looks SAVAGE.

After the Islanders' waved bye-bye to Ellie and Charlie last night, it almost looked as if they took a sign of relief to still be in the villa.

However, I did say – ALMOST.

Love Island bosses being the cheeky little devils they are have thrown in a major turn of events for two couples.

In the first peek at tonight's episode, Love Island host Caroline Flacks announces to Wes and Meghan, Georgia and Sam that they are not safe.

Their fate in the villa remains with their fellow islanders.

“Islanders you must now decide as a group who should remain as a couple in the villa. Who do you think has the potential to go the distance? Who do you believe in as a couple?” Caroline explained.

After the Islanders' pick who they want to save, the drama really got underway as the host revealed the real twist.

“You haven’t been saved by the public or your fellow Islanders. Therefore, you cannot stay on Love Island as a couple.

"This doesn’t have to be the end of your Love Island journey. It’s a huge decision, it’s either split up and remain in the villa or stay together and leave. Before you make that decision, I can tell you there are two new boys and two new girls waiting to enter the villa today.

"If you decide to split up and stay on the Island, you will each date two new Islanders and head back to the villa. You will decide who to couple up with on the next recoupling. But you can’t be with each other."

Cue to entrance of two new boys and two new girls.

Tonight's show will be the MOTHER of all twists and one not to miss.

WE CAN'T COPE.

Twelve boys and their football coach were saved from a Tham Luna cave after it filled with water and trapped the football team for 17 days underground.

The boys and their teacher were taken to hospital and are expected to make full recoveries.

In the bid to save the football team from the rising flood waters, experienced divers from around the world came to their aid.

Whilst they were successful in saving the young boys, sadly a Navy SEAL diver, Saman Kunan passed away during the mission.

The experienced diver came into difficulty when installing oxygen tanks along the cave's narrow passages and sadly lost his life on July 6.

Health officials, yesterday delivered the news to their coach and the 12 boys.

Prior to this, the young boys and their teacher had no idea that a diver had lost his life during the rescue.

They were only informed of his death, once deemed mentally and physically stable to learn of the news.

Once told, many of the boys cried, held a minute of silence and penned thank you notes to the former Navy SEAL.

Jedsada Chokdamrongsuk, permanent secretary at the Health Ministry, said:

"All cried and expressed their condolences by writing messages on a drawing of Lieutenant Commander Saman and observed one minute of silence for him.

"They also thanked him and promised to be good boys."

The Thai officials released photographs of the boys surrounding a sketch of Kunan with their heads bowed.

In order to save the boys from the cave, almost 100 divers joined the cause from around the globe.

The boys are due to be discharged from hospital on Thursday, July 19.

It is well known that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has a close friendship with tennis star, Serena Williams. The two have been seen spending time together on many occasions.

But how did they first meet? The pairs first interaction was reported to be during the 2010 Super Bowl in Florida.

Meghan said, "We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in […] So began our friendship.”

The women stayed in close contact, grabbing lunch when they were in the same town and texting often with one another. The Duchess reflected on their friendship, saying “what connects us more than those things is perhaps our belief in exceeding expectations — our endless ambition."

As powerful public figures, we can see why this dynamic duo get on so well, and it was no surprise when Meghan was in attendance at Wimbledon two days ago. She turned up for her dear friend, Serena, cheering her on throughout the tournament.

Unfortunately, Serena’s loss was devastating, but her following speech portrayed her defeat as just a small obstacle. Through her husband’s (and Meghan’s) support she is determined to come back even stronger next year.

Serena explained that she and the Duchess have always encouraged one another. The tennis pro said, “Now she’s supporting me in a different role but our friendship is still exactly the same.” During Serena’s post-game speech, Meghan was spotted with teary eyes in the audience. She was proud of her friend’s performance and moved by her words.

Earlier this year, Serena also showed her support for the Duchess by attending her royal wedding with Prince Harry.

Serena said that their friendship has remained the exact same since the royal wedding.

It is fantastic to see two strong women be so uplifting. A genuine friendship is hard to foster underneath the public eye, but we are happy to see that Meghan and Serena have not wavered in their affection for one another.

As if we needed another reason to love Taylor Swift even more!

During her performance in Philadelphia Saturday night, the young popstar encountered show-stopping technical difficulties.

As a part of her dynamic performances, the singer is usually transferred to different stages throughout the show. This time, however, she was left floating above the crowd. Taylor was being lifted into the air on a platform when it halted to a stop.

She told fans, “I'm pretty sure I'm stuck up here […] It's supposed to take me to the other side of the stadium.”

The experienced performer remained calm and positive about the mishap, commenting on how nice the view was from her position. After a few moments, the singer decided to take control of the situation.

Descending the stairs down to the main stage, Taylor sang two songs acapella until the technical glitch was fixed. She smartly chose the fan favourites of “Our Song” and “Wildest Dreams,” and the audience sang along delighted with the surprise.

This was the first time the singer encountered any problems during her world tour performances, and Swifties went wild for her impromptu songs! Fans flooded twitter with their admiration for Taylor, saying she kept things professional and handled the situation brilliantly.

Taylor’s response during the set malfunction impressed all concert attendees in Philadelphia. The tour will continue across the States with no delays.

Nice job, Taylor. We can't wait for your next performance!

Is it just us or are you dying to get a glimpse at Olivia Coleman for Season Three of The Crown?

Well, wait no longer as Netflix has released the first image of Olivia as HRH Queen Elizabeth II with the  simple caption of ''Patience.''

Which is something we sadly don't have when it comes to the third season of the hit drama.

Olivia is set to take over the reigns from Claire Foy, who embodied the grace and quiet determination of Her Majesty with such ease, that she will be greatly missed.

However, fans are divided with their opinions, as some are excited to see what Olivia will bring to the role while others wish Claire could have stayed on.

One said, ''Isn’t it two-fold? 1. The Queen needs to age: I don’t think we can hang around while Claire Foy gets 20 years older. 2. As mentioned multiple times throughout the series, ‘The Crown’ is the most important thing, not the person wearing it.''

Another chimed in with, ''I'm really going to miss Claire Foy (and Vanessa Kirby!) but I'm excited to see this next chapter!''

Olivia has spoken previously about how stepping into Claire's shoes will be ''a very hard act to follow.''

A post shared by The Crown (@thecrownnetflix) on

She spoke to Radio Times about the challenge of taking over from Claire.

''She’s f***ing amazing and it’s a very hard act to follow. The grown-ups put us [Olivia and Claire] in touch, so I could ask her about it and she was just lovely – she’s one of the sweetest people ever and she’s brilliant.”

Other new members to the cast include Tobias Menzies as the Duke of Edinburgh and Call The Midewife's Erin Doherty in the role of Princess Anne.

The third and fourth series are also reported to cover the time span of 1964-76.

Producer Suzanne Mackie also said that Charles’ second wife Camilla Parker-Bowles will be introduced.

Series Three can't come soon enough!

Blake’s character Stephanie unravels completely, descending into a low life of drugs, drink, and prostitution.

How she goes from this state to an assassin who avenges her family’s murder? We will have to wait for the film to find out!

It seems after six months, the young actress has thankfully made a full recovery.

Prince Louis' christening took place on Monday, 9th July at Westminster Abbey and it was a day filled with love and laugher.

And now Kensington Place have given us four stunning portraits from the wonderful occasion.

Shot by Matt Holyoak at Clarence House following the christening ceremony, each photograph captures the joy of the day and the closeness of the family.

The group shot includes Prince William and Kate Middleton in front and centre, with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Their respective families are surrounding them, including William's father Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker-Bowle on the left, with Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

Meanwhile, on the right are the Middletons — Kate's parents Michael and Carole, as well as sister Pippa, and her husband James, and their younger brother James.

According to Cosmopolitan, photographer Matt released a statement saying, "everyone was so relaxed and in such good spirits, it was an absolute pleasure. I only hope I have captured some of that joy in my photographs."

There is also a shot of Kate with newborn baby Louis in the grounds of Clarence House and besotted does she look?!

People were quick to comment on the images on social media, with one writing, ''this will go down in history as one of the most beautiful photos of mother and child ever'' while another said, ''what a beautiful moment of joy.''

The official photograph collection would not be complete without a snap of the family of five.

While Prince William is grinning widely and Kate is cooing at Prince Louis, it was George and Charlotte that seem to enchant everybody.

One wrote ''gorgeous photo… one blessed family'' and another said, ''George's pose tho'' followed by love heart eye emojis.

Charlotte wasn't forgotten with one comment saying, ''Charlotte steals the show again, such a sweetheart.''

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip did not attend the christening and do not appear in any of the portraits.

Royal reporter Rebecca English released a statement explaining why this is the case.

She tweeted, ''the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will not be attending today's christening. There's no health issue for the Queen. She was working flat out in Scotland last week and has got a busy few days in London with the RAF Centenary event tomorrow and Trump on Friday.''

Nevertheless, as one commentator wrote, ''so lovely to see Royals looking like a ‘normal’ and very happy family'' and from these photo's, that is clear to see.

There's no doubt about it: losing our hair can be a scary thing. If we see it thinning or falling out, the first reaction can be to panic.

But shedding hair is a part of everyday life;  it's totally normal, in fact. We lose about 80 strands a day on average but for many women, alarm bells may start to ring if they start to lose significantly more than that.

You'll know what's normal for you – and when you need to start doing something about it.

What causes hair loss?

The reality is that there are so many potential triggers when it comes to hair loss, that it can be tricky to pinpoint defining factors, so we've asked Ciarán Purcell, Head of Retail Experience at Peter Mark to tell us six common reasons why you could be seeing less of your mane than usual:

Nutrition and diet

What you eat can play a significant role in hair thinning. High consumption of animal fats, rapid weight loss and liquid protein diets can result in a lack of amino acids, biotin, iron, protein and zinc – all of which are essential for healthy-looking hair.

Genetics can be a factor

Natural, age-related hormonal change can trigger hair loss. This is caused by the conversion of testosterone into the toxin Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and can be inherited from either your mother or your father.

Stress doesn’t help your hair

Stress can produce increased levels of testosterone, which converts to DHT and interrupts the hair's growth cycle. Stress also constricts blood supply through the capillaries, restricting oxygen and nutrient uptake and vitamins to the follicle.

Your health is important

Several underlying health issues can cause hair thinning, including a malfunction of the hormone-producing thyroid or the natural hormonal changes women experience after pregnancy and during menopause.

Environmental factors can cause hair loss too

Air and water pollutants, chlorine, metals and minerals may be left on the scalp and hair thus contributing to thinning. Pollutants such as pseudo-estrogens and toxins from within our bodies are also a factor.

Medication can play a part

The hair follicle is incredibly sensitive to changes in the body. Any hormone therapy (including birth control) can contribute to hair thinning as can steroids, specific chemotherapies and medication for blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and acne.

What can you do to fix it?

Below are some tips that should help:

  • Know when it becomes an issue – if you're noticing it shedding excessively, visit your GP.
  • Treating your hair with the right products can help massively – Nioxin, a brand created to treat thinning hair is available in all Peter Mark salons, and is an excellent starting point.
  • Change up your diet – eating lots of protein-rich foods (oily fish) and extra carbohydrates (fresh fruit) will help.
  • Be sensitive about styling – avoid that topknot or any other styles that that place traction on the hair and hair follicles.
  • Look after you – one product or thing won't help hair growth alone – it's important to look at your overall health and remember that hair can take at least six weeks to fully grow back.
