Yearly Archives: 2018

All is not as it seems in that Love Island villa.

First we learned that 99.5% of Samira's journey was edited out, plus not to mention 99.9% of her relationship with Frankie.

And now ex-contestant Savanna Darnell – yer one with the fab hair who got about four seconds of air time – has dropped another bombshell.

HERE WE GO #loveisland #supportsav

A post shared by SAVANNA DARNELL (@_savannadarnell) on

She appeared on Lewys Balls YouTube channel where she nattered away about all things Love Island.

Oh, and mentioned that she had been cosying up to one Mr Wes Nelson.

Yep, Megan's boyf wasn't as loyal as he made out to be. And we are shook.

"Me and Wes actually really got on. We shared a bed – they never showed that. We had a cuddle, we were singing the whole time, up till stupid o' clock giggling and laughing in bed – that's what you didn't see hunnies."

So the producers simply edited all their time together out?

''They just never wanted to show it,'' Savanna said.

This hasn't been the only time recently that the ITV show has been hit with claims of deceptive editing and re-shooting.

One eagle-eyed viewer took to Twitter to expose a scene that looked like it had been filmed twice if you look at Georgia's manicure from one frame to the next.

Bit sus, no?

As well as continuity issues a la Georgia's nails, ''The Kiss'', which quickly became the most saturated plot line of the series, was also put under the microscope.

Because I am sad and have no life, I've watched the clip below quite a few times and I'm still none the wiser.

Is the first kiss them saying hello and the second kiss them saying goodbye?

Watch the vid below and deicide for yourselves, it's a tricky one.

However, one thing is one million percent for sure: Love Island is a reality TV show and the producers know we want all the dramz, so they edit the footage to give us that.

Fair enough we say, but if any producers are reading this, we beg you – don't make us hear ''I'm loyal babes, I'm real, that's just who I am'' one more time. We just can't.

Fancy a holiday with a bit of a difference?

One that is off the traditional tourist routes… like way off?

A trip that you'll be talking about at every night out? Well, then this experience sounds like it will be right up your street.

To celebrate the fact that Mars will be the closest it has been to Earth in 15 years on July 27th, two Airbnb hosts will be offering a one-of-a-kind experience to get up close to the Red Planet from one of the world’s largest telescopes, the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC).

Located in La Palma, Spain, six guests will join hosts Juan Antonio González, a local astronomy guide, and Antonio Luis Cabrera, the leader of scientific operations at GTC, to learn the importance of preserving the sky through the lens of the largest single-aperture optical and infrared telescope in the world.

Guests will enjoy the ultimate planetary experience by observing – and photographing! – polar ice caps and dust storms on Mars, all while marvelling at the longest lunar eclipse in the 21st century.

If you can't make next Friday don't worry, Airbnb, who have seen a huge growth in astro-tourism, has nearly 3,000 homes equipped with telescopes and unique, astro experiences on the platform.

In fact, scores of listings on the platform include “stargazing” in their description, highlighting it as the perfect spot to take in the skies.

The US ranks as the number one country with the most astro-tourism friendly listings, like the Folly in Twentynine Palms, CA, the Desert Retreat in Pioneertown, CA, and the Dome in the Desert in Joshua Tree, which is the community that offers the most listings globally perfect for stargazing.

All hail Queen Kylie.

It seems that she's everywhere atm, right?

From landing the cover of Forbes, to shocking the world by removing her lip fillers, now the 20-year-old is gracing the August cover of GQ mag alongside her fella of one year, Travis Scott.

The couple shared images from their stunning photo shoot all across social media yesterday, with Kylie uploading two snaps to her Instagram.

The billionaire business mogul and her 27-year-old rapper beau, who are parents to five-months-old.Stormi, were interviewed by Mark Anthony Green and they spilled a lot of goss.

home.

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

The pair revealed that they never had a proper first date, as they met at Coachella where she decided to join Travis on his tour bus. As you do.

'“So he said, ‘I'm going back on tour—what do we want to do about this? And I was like, ‘I guess I'm going with you,’'' Kylie told the magazine

Obviously, social media blew up in response to this shoot – and everyone has an opinion.

Some fans were focused on how they were styled, wth one writing, ''Travis Scott's net worth is estimated at $8M. By Forbes’ estimate Kylie’s net worth is $900M. That’s more than her ENTIRE family w/Kanye combined yet via photo shoot, GQ endorsed reducing Kylie to a lap trophy/sex object. And women wonder WHY the equality struggle is real.''

Many others loved the photos though, and Instagram was filled with comments of support.

''You two are the absolute dream couple'' followed by heart-eyes emoji's said one, and another wrote, ''Kylie looks very happy with Travis. They both suit each other.''

Kylie, who has made a pretty $900million from Kylie Cosmetics, recently hit headlines due to comedy page The Fat Jew who set up a GoFundMe page to get to $1 billion (yes, really).

''I don't want to live in a world where Kylie Jenner doesn't have a billion dollars. WE MUST RAISE 100 MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP HER GET TO A BILLION, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD, THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. LINK IN BIO TO DONATE,'' it wrote.

Understandably, people were p*ssed off.

''Wow didn't know this level of stupidness actually existed,'' one person commented on the post.

We think that – somehow – Kylie will manage to scrape together bus fare without our help, don't you?

While we all make mistakes sometimes, it turns out that having a high IQ may not be the key to intelligence and good decision making.

From losing concert tickets to locking your keys in the car, we all know someone that's clumsy yet, incredibly intelligent.

And now science has proven that just because you're smart, doesn't mean you make good judgements.

Image result for im so stupid gif

Research from the journal The Thinking Skills and Creativity saw 244 participants take part in a test which measured their critical thinking abilities.

The candidates, which were a mix of students and working individuals, were asked to comment on different scenarios which ranged from mildly annoying to extremely upsetting.

They were asked to indicate their experience with the following situations:

Mildly annoying:

  • sending a text to the wrong person

  • locking yourself out of your house

  • sending an email with spelling errors to somebody important

Extremely upsetting:

  • having €1,000 or more in credit card debt

  • borrowed money to gamble

  • contracted a sexually transmitted disease

After taking an IQ test, and looking over the answers, the researchers saw that "those with higher critical thinking scores reported fewer negative life events."

It's therefore possible to have an average IQ and still make intelligent decisions.

Thanks to the affordability of flights, Berlin has become one of the most popular weekend break cities for Irish people.

And what's not to love? Divine food, Bauhaus architecture and a rich, striking and poignant history make the city a riveting experience for travellers.

While sights like the Berlin Wall and the Jewish History Museum are must-sees, there are a few other little places that you need to visit to get the true measure of the city.

6. Roamers Cafe, Pannierstraße 64, 12043

Roamers Cafe is an idyllic little place tucked away down a residential side street.

The place is completely stuffed with plants, minted water vials and a laid-back vibe.

Open from 9.30am to 7pm, this place is pretty popular with the locals so be prepared to queue as the little nook barely seats 30.

5. The DDR Museum, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 1, 10178

The DDR Museum is a pretty interesting place to visit if you're a history buff.

The museum offers highly interactive installations about Communist Germany, including a vintage car you can sit in and "drive" around pre-war Berlin in.

There is even a house you can walk into which is decked out in the decor of the time, so definitely give this place a go. Plus, it's located in the shadow of the Berlin Cathedral, so that's two birds with one stone.

4. Mauer Park Flea Market, Mauer Park, Bernauer Str. 63-64, 13355

This hidden gem is the perfect place to do some unique shopping while in Berlin on a Sunday.

The gorgeous sprawling market is full to bursting with vintage clothing stalls, unique art prints, knickknacks and delicious, warming drinks and cuisine.

Make sure you bring your poker face and prepare to haggle with the vintage veterans and you'll leave with a pretty amazing deal.

3. Tresor,  Köpenicker Str. 70, 10179

So Tresor definitely features on a few must-see travel guides, but it's made it onto this list for a reason.

Tresor is and underground (literally sub-terrain) techno club where night could melt into day and you'd never even know.

The smoky, concrete interiors and eclectic crowd make this intense EDM experience completely unmissable.

2. Nordbahnhof S-Bahn Station, Invalidenstraße 131, 10115

This subway station doubles up as a museum, which focuses on detailing the sorry tale of the train stations which were walled up during the building of the Berlin wall.

Trains still passed through these stations but didn't stop, making them gone but never forgotten.

It's a creepy, poignant and eccentric part of Berlin's history.

1. Urban Nation, Bülowstraße between U-Bahn stations Bülowstraße and Nollendorfplatz, 10783

Nestled in downtown west Berlin is a street art bonanza.

Thanks to the work of Urban Nation, these ever-changing displays of art serve as Berlin's exterior gallery.

After months of keeping us on our toes, it has been confirmed that there will be a Downton Abbey film!

The beloved television series went on for six drama-filled seasons, winning three Golden Globe Awards, 15 Primetime Emmys and a BAFTA.

The show has gained global attention, becoming the most nominated, non-U.S. television show in Emmy history!

PBS

As Violet says, ""I'm not a romantic, but even I concede that the heart does not exist solely for the purpose to pump blood." And our hearts beat for Downton Abbey!

Details of the film’s plot have yet to be released, but we do know it will feature the next chapter for the Crawley family.

It has been announced that one of the series’ key cast members will NOT be in the film. Lady Rose MacClare, played by Lily James, will not be in the upcoming drama.

When asked the reason for her absence, she told People: “My character Rose moved off to New York, so it would be farfetched to bring her back.”

She explained that because it was a film, it would be too hard to fit Rose in. Otherwise, she would have loved to appear in a cameo.

The film’s delay of production had been due to scheduling conflicts with different cast members.

"There has been a lot of goodwill from all of us, but logistically, it's a bit of a minefield. It's very difficult to get 22 actors together," said Joanne Froggatt, Anna Bates in the series.

Finally overcoming this obstacle, production for the film has officially began this summer, and we can’t wait to see what happens next!

The summer is speeding along, and it is almost X Factor season!

So, get ready for all the feels, the laughs, and all that Simon sass.

What do we know about the new season?

After months of rumours, we have verbal confirmation on who the judges will be this year.

Simon is returning for sure. He is Simon Cowell after all. X Factor would not be the same without his low-cut, V-necks.

Louis Walsh announced last month that he will be leaving the show permanently, and apparently, Simon could not be happier!

According to a source at The Sun, Simon was looking to replace Louis Walsh anyway. He was seeking some ‘new blood’ for the panel this year.

And it looks like he found it!

One Direction star, Louis Tomlinson, will be joining the panel along with singer Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field. They have signed contracts to become judges this season for the hit singing competition.

Robbie has previous touring commitments, so Sharon Osbourne will be back as well, only occasionally filling in on the live shows.

Louis Tomlinson warned everybody that he will still be focusing on his music despite his commitment as judge.

As to when the new season starts, no official announcements have been made yet.

Nicole Scherzinger, a judge during the last season, said that we probably won’t know until the end of summer. She told the The Sunday Mirror, "Simon is so f****** last minute, we know in the same month that he announces it."

Last year, the show aired on September 2nd, so we can guess that it will be a similar date this time around.

We do know that auditions for the show start tomorrow! So, stay tuned for more X Factor updates. We can’t wait for the new season!

Anyone who has read (or more realistically – devoured) Caitlin Moran’s How To Build A Girl knows that this coming-of-age book is going to be a stellar movie.

However, translating books to the screen is always a tricky business, mainly due to the casting.

If you get it right, everything slots into place, but if you get it wrong? Boy, the whole plot can just come crashing down.

But we are pleasantly surprised with the choice of Beanie Feldstein as the protagonist, Wolverhampton native Johanna Morrigan.

You might recognise Beanie as Saoirse Ronan's BFF in Ladybird but she is all ready to step into a leading role.

Caitlin is clearly on board with this casting, replying to Beanie's tweet with, ''my timeline has just been FULL OF LOVE for you today – the womansphere has been alerted to your incoming EXPLOSION of glory and I am so, so, so thrilled to be doing this with you. OH MY GOD IT'S REAL!!!!!!''

Reactions to the news were overwhelmingly positive to the 25-year-old as the choice to play Johanna.

One wrote about the LA-native's announcement, ''I love Beanie Feldstein. She's perfect for this. But can she do an English accent?''

The film will follow the book's plot: it's 1990 and 14-year-old Johnna has created an alter ego, Dolly Wilde, after embarrassing herself on on local TV.

Part autobiographical, it follows Johanna as Dolly who, by 16, is smoking, drinking, writing for a music paper and exploring her burgeoning sexuality.

The cast also includes Paddy Considine as Johnna's dad and Sarah Soleman as her mum.

On top of that, Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen will play John Kite, an older rock star whom Johanna falls madly in love with.

We are REALLY looking forward to this one!!

More bad news for anyone planning on flying with Ryanair this Friday.

The airline have just announced the cancellation of 24 flights today, which will affect thousands of passengers.

This decision comes after a pilot union refused to postpone its planned strike action for this Friday.

Ryanair had invited representatives of trade union Fórsa, who are behind the upcoming strike, to discuss the ongoing row over how transfers, holidays and promotions are allocated among their pilots.

Ryanair said that unless the pilots postponed their strike by 5pm yesterday, the airline would be forced to cancel 24 flights today, mainly between Ireland and the UK, for this Friday, July 20th.

According to The Independent, a spokesperson for the trade union confirmed  that this deadline was not met.

“We needed more notice than what they had asked. We’re in the business of solving an industrial dispute. The earliest we can meet them is on either Wednesday or Thursday,” they said.

Eddie Wilson, chief people officer at Ryanair, said many of the proposals made by Fórsa at a meeting with airline management last week were “contradictory and work to the disadvantage of Irish pilots and our business model.''

Passengers are understandably  upset at this further disruption with many taking to social media to vent their frustration.

One wrote, ''Why does anyone still book with that joke of an airline?'' while others showed their support for the pilots striking, saying, ''absolutely no one gives up a days pay without good reason. Ryanair pilots are changing the game for all staff in the company and deserve nothing but support.''

Keep on eye out for any updates and fingers crossed that you're not affected!

The hotly anticipated third instalment of smash Netflix phenomenon Stranger Things may still be a way off but fans finally got a little nugget of what the next season has in store.

Netflix released the short clip, titled, ''Ahoy! Something is coming… to Hawkins, Indiana!'' yesterday to mass excitement.

It showed a brand new mall, Starcourt Mall, that's coming to Hawkins in the summer of 1985.

Big permed hair, cycling shorts and neon legwarmers followed as the mall came to life with 80's shoppers.

Not to mention the appearance of fan favourite Steve Harrington (Joe Kerry) clad in a sailor outfit at what we can assume is his summer job in Scoops Ahoy! ice cream parlour.

Btw, whoever okayed putting a hat on top of The Hair – which is almost a character in it's own right – has some serious answering to do.

Joining him was newbie Robin (Maya Thurman-Hawke), who looked as equally unenthusiastic about working there as our Steve.

So what does it all mean?

Well, fans are literally combing through each scene, looking for any clues that creators The Duffer Brothers may have slipped in.

One fan wrote, ''you don't know how much ive seen this clip. i NeEd mOrE sTrAnGeR tHiNgS 3!!!!''

Most of the crazy fan theories and assumptions are that something is not quite right with Starcourt Mall – why make a clip solely dedicated to it if wasn't linked in some way linked to the Upside Down?

One comment said, ''I bet there is gonna be some epic showdown inside the mall with eleven and all the kids trying to defeat a monster'' while another agreed that the mall hold's definite importance in the plot.

''Brenners gonna waltz Back into Hawkins to find a shopping mall has been built over his lab. Eleven and mike go on a date to the mall and bump into Brenner.''

Helluva day….

A post shared by Shawn Levy (@slevydirect) on

One fan suggested that the mall was built on the grounds of Hawkin's lab.

Hmmm, not sure about that one but I suppose we'll just have to keep on guessing for now!

The show has another reason to celebrate as it has just landed a whopping and well-deserved 12 Emmy nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, and nods for David Harbour (Hopper) and Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven ) in their respective roles.

Shame that the amazing Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) missed out on a nom as he was insanely brilliant in S2.

Thankfully, a few more set secrets were spilled recently thanks to executive producer Shawn Levy's interview with GQ.

He explained that four of the eight episodes have now been filmed, but the Duffers are still writing the second half of the season while they edit the first half.

“We still are scrambling to find time for the [Duffer] brothers to write the second half of the season while we're making the first half. Like every creative type the brothers have their process, and no matter how resolved they are to be more efficient with their time or not, some things don't change.”

He also promised a turn in the plot “toward darker and bigger action-packed fare than we’ve ever attempted.”

Stranger Things 3 began filming in April in Atlanta but it looks like we'll have to sit tight til sometime in 2019 to see what the gang get up to next.

To scratch that ST itch, catch Summer of 84 next month and hold tight for that S3 trailer!
