Willow Smith has been thrust into the public eye not just because she's the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, but also due to her career as a recording artist. The now-17-year-old was only nine when her song 'Whip My Hair' blew up, going platinum in the US.

Following the release of the popular single, the singer felt she was in a 'black hole'. Her mental state eventually drove her to self-harm.

"It was after that whole Whip My Hair thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this grey area of, 'Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?'" Willow explained to her mother and grandmother, Adrienne Banfield-Norrison, on the web series Red Table Talk.

"After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album, and I was like, 'No. I’m not gonna do that.'"

A post shared by ≠GWEELOS≠ (@willowsmith) on

The I Am Legend actress continued, "And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself."

Jada and Adrienne were shocked by the revelation, and Willow's mum said she 'never saw any signs' of her daughter's struggle with self-harm.

Willow admitted that, until now, she had only told one friend about it.

"I never talk about it because it was such a short, weird point in my life," the teenager said, "But you have to pull yourself out of it."

She stopped cutting after she thought to herself one night, 'This is actually psychotic'.

Willow is certainly not alone in this issue, either. "A lot of adolescent girls struggle with self-harm," she said.

Indeed, the Irish Examiner reports that nearly 2,700 children here in Ireland are waiting to see Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, and while not all if them self-harm, these children need treatment.

In fact, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services saw a 10 percent rise in the number of kids waiting over 12 months for an appointment. Mental health issues, including self-harm, affect children regardless of their background.

We wish Willow the best as she heals, and hope that her story helps raise awareness of how young people are impacted by self-harm.

We’re big fans of sweet potato at SHEmazing HQ and regularly chow-down on sweet potato fries and sweet potato soup. We’ve even been known to bake sweet potato brownies. But sweet potato ice-pops……well that’s a first for us.

Wellnice Pops, a Limerick-based company founded by best mates BJ and Trín, has introduced a full range of vegetable and fruit-based ice-pops, just in time for summer. Aimed at supporting Irish people increase their intake of nutrients and micro-nutrients, the sweet potato, apple and beetroot pop, cleverly named ‘Frost Beet’ is loaded with zinc and is a great source of folic acid. What’s more it counts just 28 calories meaning we’ve finally found the healthy but fun snack we thought would never exist.

There are four ice-pop varieties in the range, all made exclusively from cold-pressed vegetables and fruits, and literally nothing else, not even water. Packed full of Vit C, Vit K and more, the pops support time-poor, young professionals to get the nutrients we need whilst on-the-go.

Co-founder of Wellnice Pops and nutritionist BJ Broderick said: “A busy lifestyle can make it really difficult to absorb the nutrients and micro-nutrients we need just to function every day. Between coffee for breakfast, skipping lunch or just grabbing a sandwich, our bodies are regularly missing out on vital nutrition.

“We are particularly passionate about helping the Irish consumer understand their nutritional needs and hope that the range not only introduces the Irish consumer to a new way of getting their required ‘7-a-day’ but also introduces them to fruits or vegetables they may not have explored before.”

Co-founder of Wellnice Pops and engineer, Trín O’Brien added:  “We have created a range we’re really proud of – it is honest in its nutritional offering, delicious in taste and built with the noble purpose of getting Ireland eating more fruit and veg.”

You go girls!

The four ice-pops in the range are:

The Wellnice Lemon Sucker at 15 calories contains only lemon, pineapple and yellow pepper and provides 88% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C, vital for protecting and maintaining cells, healthy skin, bones and cartilage. Interestingly, the body doesn’t have the ability to store Vitamin C meaning it is needed every day.

The Wellnice All Hail Kale at 20 calories contains only kale, cucumber and apples and is high in both Vitamin C and Vitamin K, a nutrient that plays a role in regulating blood clotting, building strong bones and preventing heart disease.

The Wellnice Two Carat Diamond at 23 calories contains only carrot, orange and ginger and promotes normal vision, helps to protect the immune system and aids cell reproduction.

The Wellnice Frost Beet at 34 calories contains only beetroot, apple and sweet potato, is high in zinc and is a source of folic acid. Folic acid can defend against deficiencies such as anaemia and helps the body to keep producing new cells whilst zinc helps the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses and is needed by the body to make proteins and DNA.

Excuse us while we run to the shop to stock up!

Pretty Little Liars may have ended almost a year ago, but the saga looks set to continue after Freeform confirmed there's a spin-off series in the works.

Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist has been picked up for a 10-episode series and is set to feature some familiar faces.

The new series will see both Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish reprise their roles as Alison and Mona.

Also starring in the highly anticipated spin-off is Sofia Carson (Disney’s Descendants), Sydney Park (The Walking Dead), newcomer Eli Brown, Graeme Thomas King (The Widow), Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl), and Hayley Erin (General Hospital).

The Perfectionist is set Beacon Heights – a seemingly perfect suburban town where a group of college students struggle with their 'overachiever' status.

A simple pair of denim shorts have caused a major controversy on an American college campus this week.

Letitia Chai, a final year student at Cornell University in New York, has gone viral after stripping down to her underwear in a disagreement with her professor.

According to campus sources, in practising her final presentation, her professor said that her shorts were "too short" and advised Chai that she was making a "statement" with her clothes.

“The first thing that the professor said to me was ‘is that really what you would wear?’,” Chai explained.

Wearing a pair of shorts and a buttoned shirt, Chia was taken aback by the remark.

The professor then proceeded to tell her that she was drawing the "male gaze" away from the content of her presentation with her dress.

Chai then grew more upset as a male classmate agreed with the professor, telling her that she had a "moral obligation" to dress more appropriately.

Deciding to take a stand Chai returned to the classroom stripping to her underwear to give her presentation. She did the same thing again at her final presentation, which was live streamed on Facebook

She also called on her classmates to strip on support- and more than two dozen did.

"I am more than Asian. I am more than a woman. I am more than Letitia Chai. I am a human being," she implored her classmates, while stripping. "And I ask you to take this leap of faith, to take this next step, or rather this next strip, in our movement and to join me in revealing to each other and to seeing each other for who we truly are — members of the human race."

Comments on Chai's bold move were divided, with some standing by her demonstration and others questioning if the behaviour was mature.

Professor Maggor herself replied to the controversy stating that it was never her intention to tell her students how to dress.

“I do not tell my students what to wear, nor do I define for them what constitutes appropriate dress. I ask them to reflect for themselves and make their own decisions," she said.

Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, will not be there to see his daughter and Prince Harry tie the knot.

“This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding," a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said, according to People.

"She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”

Kensington Palace had detailed earlier this month how Thomas would be walking the former Suits star down the aisle. Sadly, though, other arrangements will have to be made.

TMZ reports that Thomas says he will not attend because he doesn't want to cause his daughter embarrassment after making a deal with a photo agency. The deal allowed to agency to take snaps of him preparing for the big day.

Thomas claims that his main motivation for making the deal with the paparazzi agency was not money, but rather to improve his image. Since his daughter's relationship with Harry went public, he has been photographed in unflattering situations.

Meghan's father now says, though, that the pictures from the photo deal look 'stupid and hammy'.

On Monday, Thomas also told TMZ he had a heart attack six days ago and had checked himself out of hospital so he would be ready to witness his daughter's nuptials. However, the former TV lighting director says he will no longer be going.

Meghan's half-sister Samantha Markle took responsibility for the paparazzi deal their father made, saying on ITV's Loose Women that she was 'entirely the culprit'.

"I said the world has no idea that you're getting in shape and doing healthy things," Samantha shared.

She was also asked if Thomas had been paid. Samantha said she didn't think he was, but also could not be sure.

"I do not believe so. That was not the motive – it was my suggestion," she noted.

"I have no idea. But if he did, I am going to assume it was a pittance – they don't pay that much. It really was so the world could see him doing the healthy things."

People reports that Samantha will not be at the wedding, and neither will Thomas Markle Jr (Meghan's half-brother).

The brother of a heartbroken bride-to-be has issued an appeal after his sister lost her engagement ring in Dublin last week.

According to a tweet posted by the BiPolar BearWear account, the woman misplaced the precious item in the Rathmines/ Rathgar/ Terenure area last Wednesday.

There is an award on offer for anyone who may have information on the ring's whereabouts.

The appeal reads: "My sister lost her engagement ring yesterday evening (May 9th) in Rathmines / Rathgar / Terenure area.

"She's obviously fairly heartbroken and I know it's a long shot but if anyone happens to find it there'll be a lovely reward for your kindness. Thanks a mill."

While a solid line of investigation has not yet been established, many Twitter users have replied to the original post wishing the newly-engaged woman the best of luck in her search.

Have you a wardrobe bursting with stuff you just don't wear? Same.

Have you thought about selling all of your unworn garments time and time again, only to realise you're just not arsed? Same same.

Well, that was until now.

I recently discovered a snazzy app called 'Dressup Market' where you can buy and sell gorge fashion goodies.

What makes this particular app different though? They really do all the hard work for you (I'm serious).

PLUS:  it's an Irish company, and we love that!

We were lucky enough to chat to the CEO, the lovely Lana Gregen, to chat about her company, and how it all came about.

"As January 2017 arrived, it was that time again, a time for a ‘new you’ and a review of life. So, I stood in front of my wardrobe and like many women, I had a wardrobe full of barely worn pieces, but always found I had nothing to wear," she explained.

"I didn’t have the money to shop until I dropped, or to donate and replenish with a new wardrobe and I couldn’t find a platform that provided a solution to the existing slow selling and cluttered resale markets, or one that I would actually want to make that all important effort to list and sell my clothing, one where smart descriptions and hashtags were not required in order to be found.

It wasn’t just a material thing, yes we all like something new and shiny but I found it was deeply upsetting me that I was unable to continue to evolve and express myself easily on my journey through life and was so restricted by time, space and money. I believe that clothes tell a story about who you are and how you feel about yourself. They help you feel good when you are down or give you confidence when you need it most."

One of our favourite looks this week comes from this stunner @emilyshak  You can't beat the nice top and jeans combo! Make it extra sxy with ripped jeans and a fab pair of heels and throw in a designer bag for that feel good factor!! Get inspired and create your own! This trio from the market gives you top brands, at seriously low prices!! #happyplanning  We have some very exciting features adding to this coming early next week!!!  . #community #outfitplanning #create #looks #shopthelook #discountedprices #bargainbetty #love #fashion #style #instafashion #instastyle #instagood #instago #instapic #picoftheday #instalove #instafamous #instafollow #instablogger #instafun #resale #womensclothing #support #womeninbusiness #girlboss #dressupmarket

A post shared by Dressup Market (@dressupmarketofficial) on

"I wanted to create a platform that would be easy to navigate, enjoyable to browse, plan and organise looks and most importantly, effective to buy and sell items to suit my current needs (or wants)."

And boy, did she succeed.

Lana and her co-founder, Amy Pugh, spent months finalising the market, named Dressup.

For them, it had to be mobile, there was no question there, and also it had to be widely available on Android and iOS. The app is free to download and list, with a commission on sale approach (they take 30% of the money you make, which is a much better rate than most consignment stores).

They created the perfect space to manage your wardrobe and organise outfits for any social occasion. It's a platform to clear out your closet, search and shop event style and add garments to customised folders where you can see looks or wishlists together, before you even tap buy.

Also, you're in very good hands, because buyer and seller protection is Dressup's top priority! The ladies chose Stripe as their payments partner, which added a clear processing time feature and an integrated shipment tracking facility.

‘Match My Measurements’ is possibly our favourite feature on the app! It helps the user to find clothes that fit, first time.

With a simple yet innovative sizing algorithm at its core, this feature gives shoppers greater guidance and confidence for each purchasing decision so that the want of a return will be less likely, key in a preloved market where sales are final.

All in all, this might just be one of my favourite apps ever!

Give it a download, and getting selling and spending.

Love Island fans could soon be treated to two instalments of the series per year after the show's bosses confirmed they are looking into the possibility of creator an LGBTQ+ version.

The news comes after the reality show scooped the award for Best Reality and Constructed Factual at last night's BAFTA ceremony.

Speaking at a press conference after the win, producers Richard Cowels and Sarah Tyekiff said they were open to the idea of creating a separate LGBTQ+ series.

"We've had bisexual people in the show – for a dating show, you need everyone to fancy everyone, so if you have gay and heterosexual in the same place, they're not going to fancy each other," Cowels said.

"We'd have to dedicated show… Absolutely we'd consider two series a year."

When asked if fans can expects any twists in upcoming series, he replied: "We've always got things up our sleeves, but the show is written as it goes along.

"So everyone is reacting to what's happening on and then the format is being written as it happens… Whatever we have planned, (they) get ripped up pretty much every hour as the cast goes in.

"Everything we predicted hasn't happened and whatever is happening is more exciting than we predicted. We just go for it."

Love Island is set to return next month for a total of eight weeks, making it the longest series to date.

Okay so, we all have busy lives, and low budgets at the best of times, right?

And with that, we tend to have small panic attacks when we need to get the aul hair done.

ESPECIALLY, if you are blonde, but not naturally blonde (like myself).

Whether you have balayage , ombre or a delicious head of highlights, you'll know that getting blonde into your hair is a lengthy and expensive process.

Well, not anymore.

Recently, I learned about a snazzy new invention by the gorge folks at L'Oreal Pro – Instant Highlights.

Yes you read that correctly – instant.

Can we take a second to examine my RATTY 'before' hair?

Anyway, my curiosity took over, and I simply had to try this amazing new technology for myself.

So, on a wonderful Friday morning in May, I sauntered in to Dylan Bradshaw on South William Street, and got my blonde on.

Special shout out to Brian O'Driscoll, who was getting his mop chopped beside me at 9am – fair play to you hun.

I was a wee bit sceptical of the whole process – how in the name of God could I get highlights done in such a short period of time?

Basically, 15 pieces of my very long hair were separated out and identified as the pieces that were to be lightened.

The formula was applied to these pieces, and the foil was attached.

Then the fun started!

The amazing people in the salon came at me with what looked like a GHD, but it was something VERY different.

The L’Oréal Pro Instant Highlights tool has been uniquely designed with a spacer between the plates to help protect hair from the damage caused during the heat process.

The spacer also has a controlled heat gauge that is designed to regulate the temperature every 0.2 seconds to ensure the safe temperature of 140 degrees at all times – both factors ensure that hair does not have direct contact with heat to prevent damage.

So they simply went over the foils with this contraption, and BAM – I was blonde (well, those pieces of hair were anyway.)

No waiting around for hours waiting for the dye to take – the process took 30 minutes, from application to the rinsing.

Now, as I mentioned before, my hair is LONG, so my blow-dry took a while (it always does).

Mermaid locks à la @aoifebradley81 #newhairwhodis

A post shared by @ beccaokeeffe on

However, from the moment you sit on the chair, to the moment you leave the salon all blonde and fabulous – you will have only lost about an hour of your life.

That sure beats the 4 hour process that highlights can sometimes take – trust me, I've been there.

And the best bit? It will literally cost you HALF the amount of a normal head of highlights.

Get in touch with your nearest L'Oreal salon, and check it out for yourself.

10/10 would recommend to a friend.
