If you can't drink Guinness, why not dive into it in cake-form?

This cake is made of Guinness and will be perfect as a Paddy's Day treat.

Guinness pint cake

Ingredients

  • 250ml Guinness
  • 250g unsalted butter
  • 75g cocoa powder
  • 400g caster sugar
  • 150g sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 275g plain flour
  • 2½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 150g cream cheese
  • 200g icing sugar
  • 100ml double cream, lightly whipped
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Preheat an oven to 180°C.

Melt the butter and the Guinness in a pan over low heat. Add the sugar, vanilla extract and cocoa powder and mix well until smooth.

Whisk the eggs and sour cream together, add the Guinness mixture, then finally add the flour and baking powder and mix well.

Divide between Guinness glasses so they are about ¾ full. Place on a tray and bake for 40 to 45 minutes until risen and cooked through. Allow to cool completely.

Place all the icing ingredients into a bowl and beat until smooth and fluffy. Level off the top of the cakes and spoon the frosting onto the top of each cake so they look like a proper pint. Enjoy!

Listen, in some parts of the country, there's still snow on the ground, we know.

However, we're seriously dreaming of warmer climates, beach holidays and the possibility of maybe even getting a tan.

Anyway, if you have already started planning your summer of fun – you may want to make an investment.

Honestly, no gal's trip will be complete without this GIANT inflatable unicorn.

Imagine the scenes: you and your best friends are all perched in your giant inflatable unicorn, with the sun beating down?

Honestly, nothing sounds better in my opinion.

Anyway, these glorious inflatable delights are available online, thanks to Sam's Club.

Also, if unicorns aren't your thing (weird, but okay) then fear not – as you also have the option of a flamingo or a peacock.

These inventions are basically like a boat, equipped with cup holders and all!

Need one immediately!

OK, at this stage we all the how important exercise is when it comes to maintaining our general health and well-being.

Increased energy levels, decreased risk of disease and improved mental health are just some of the benefits enjoyed by those who engage in regular physical activity, and while we've always known that exercise can make us look more youthful as we age, science has now proven that regular workouts can actually reduce a person's biological age.

Researchers at the University of Birmingham and King's College London studied 125 amateur cyclists between the ages of 55 and 79.

84 of the participants were male and 41 were female.

The study found that, despite their age, the cyclists' managed to maintain the muscle mass and strength of a much younger person.

What's more, the participants' immune systems showed little to no deterioration.

Speaking about the results, Professor Janet Lord, Director of the Institute of Inflammatory and Ageing at the University of Birmingham, said we are under the false assumption that ageing automatically makes us weak and frail.

"Hippocrates in 400 BC said that exercise is man’s best medicine, but his message has been lost over time and we are an increasingly sedentary society," she said.

"However, importantly, our findings debunk the assumption that ageing automatically makes us more frail.

"Our research means we now have strong evidence that encouraging people to commit to regular exercise throughout their lives is a viable solution to the problem that we are living longer but not healthier."

Researchers hope to continue the study to find out whether or not the same affects can be seen as the cyclists get older.

So basically, if you're searching for the real secret behind enteral youth, ditch the anti-ageing creams and hop on a bike instead.

I personally get psoriasis on my shoulders, and decided to give this cream a whirl (very little has ever worked for me, so I'm always on the hunt).

My skin feels amazing, and smooth!

The best part is that it's not gross and sticky – it goes on silky and you can barley feel it on your skin.

Smells like heaven also.

Now of course, it won't work for everyone, but it is so so worth trying.

The day of 'I'm just lucky to have a job' is gone – hard working, well educated young people deserve respect when entering the work force.

One thing that employers ALWAYS get away with is the 'unpaid internship' – sorry but on what planet can a person afford to work full time, for NO MONEY?

This rant is coming from someone who knows all too well what life is like as an unpaid intern.

I have done three internships in total – one in Ireland and two abroad. The Irish one? I got 50 quid a week to cover travel.

I worked 9-5 (although, sometimes I worked MUCH later), Monday to Friday, and did the job of a person who should have been on a starting salary.

Instead, I had to sponge off my parents, take out a loan and cease to have a social life for the best part of 4 months.

What did I learn?

To be honest, I took a massive life lesson with me when I left the internship – know your worth, and stick to it!

I still remember how grateful I felt when I got the offer of my internship. So thankful to have a 'job'.

When you look up the word job in the dictionary, it is described as: 'A paid position of regular employment.'

Emphasis on the word paid please.

'I get to pursue my dreams in an amazing company.' But, for no money, no benefits and

Nobody should have to work for free, and I cannot believe that companies are getting away with it.

And yet, despite being unpaid, I worked harder than I ever have – with a determination to impress someone, in the hope of being offered a job at the end of my internship.

That rarely happens by the way, but they kind of lead me on – like a mean boy who you fancy, but you shouldn't.

They told me I was doing a great job, which only spurred me on more, resulting in me bringing work home at the weekend, working late and all that fun stuff.

FOR NO MONEY.

'Life isn't always about money' I hear you say.

I hate to bloody break it to you lads, but yes, yes it is. To be in your early twenties, working your butt off for nothing is a serious blow to your confidence.

Self worth is something that employers need to get on board with. You cannot expect your staff to be happy working for nothing, even if they're 'just an intern'.

I ultimately left the internship early, because I eventually copped on that I was being taken for a total ride. I did a little stint in London, and returned to the company I'm in now.

Who actually pay me.

1. The Nutri Nuts

These plant based honeys are possibly the only reason I would ever consider ditching meat. Their Instagram page is flooded with a food diary so full of colour, the food almost looks as good as it tastes. An Insta 'start-up' of sorts, these Irish ladies are just beginning to gain a following, but I have no doubt we'll be seeing big things from them in the future. Give them a follow, you'll be glad you did.

2. Thomas Joseph

Okay so this fine fella happens to work alongside Martha Stewart, so needless to say, he knows his shit. He's the Director of Food Development at Martha Stewart Living, and has an Instagram feed (optimum word) full of the most delicious look food you've ever seen. We need to try that cauliflower soup, FYI.

roasted cauliflower soup w. almonds, capers, chives and creme fraiche. recipe -> toss one large head of cauliflower (cut into small florets) with olive oil, salt and pepper. spread evenly on baking sheet and roast at 450 degrees until florets are slightly brown and tender. meanwhile, sauté one large onion (chopped) in a few tablespoon of butter – i like to get them brown bc more color = more flavor. add two quarts of chicken stock (you can substitute veg), one large russet potato (peeled and chopped), thyme leaves (about two tablespoons) and two peeled garlic cloves. bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. add cauliflower. season with salt and pepper. cook until potatoes are super tender and start to fall apart. blend. i like to use a #vitamix but and immersion blender works too. season w salt and pepper. garnish with toasted almonds, capers, chives and creme fraiche or sour cream

4. Evergreen Kitchen

Listen, I am a hardcore carnivore, but every now and then, a little vegetarian meal tickles my fancy. Usually, I get my veg-spiration from the evergreen kitchen – an Instagram duo who love colourful healthy food almost as much as they love eachother.

Serve these BBQ “Pulled Pork” Nachos and watch them disappear in 0.15286 seconds fla! Super easy and crazy good. All it takes is a can of jackfruit, seasonings and BBQ sauce; then pile it on tortilla chips with all the toppings. The “pulled pork” looks so much like the real stuff it’s almost scary(you’ve been warned). Recipe link in profile! If it’s your first time cooking jackfruit, you can find the cans at Asian grocery stores (and sometimes the Asian section of a traditional grocer). Just make sure to grab jackfruit in brine (not the kind in syrup). • #evergreenkitchen #onthetable #nachos #recipeoftheday #foodblogfeed #healthyeats #SuperBowl #healthyish #vegetarian #yommme #healthysnacks #imsomartha #eatyourveggies #popsugarfitness #realfood #feedfeed #f52grams #buzzfeast #instafood #vscofood #todayfood #easyecipes #eeeeeats #saveurmag #plantbased #feedyouresolution #plantpowered #foodphotography #vancouverfoodie #vancitybuzz @thefeedfeed @saveurmag @wholefoods

Few films captured the hearts of a generation quite like the 90s classic, 10 Things I Hate About You.

After all, who could forget the scene where Heath Ledger pranced around the school bleachers in the ultimate exclamation of love, or when Julia Stiles broke our teenage hearts with her emotionally charged love poem.

It was cinema magic, and to be honest, it's still one of our all-time favourite girls night flicks.

And now, an iconic piece of film memorabilia could be all yours, because the gorgeous Victorian house, and home of the Stratford sisters', has just gone on the market for the first time in 30 years.

Complete with the original woodwork, cosy entrance hall, fully-functional bar, and the quintessential wrap-around porch, this lavish Washington property could be yours for cool $1.6 million (€1.3 million) – which, by Dublin price standards, isn't actually half-bad.

Here's exactly what you'll get for your money:

We've got to admit, we don't hate it. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

So, of all beauty products, bronzer is the one thing I couldn't leave the house without.

Genuinely, I burn through bronzer like an actual Kardashian – an addiction that can get pretty expensive.

I used to absolutely swear by Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess, you know that sun disc that is the size of your face?

Well, truthfully, I still love it to my very core, but it was just too expensive to maintain.

And so, I began looking elsewhere, in a desperate attempt to find an alternative to my all-time favourite bronzer.

In a shocking twist, I was successful.

I discovered the wonderful world of NOTE Cosmetics, and I've honestly never looked back.

NOTE Cosmetics Bronzing Powder costs €15 quid, and be picked up in most decent pharmacies

It has a silky texture that gives your skin a healthy and natural glowing suntan, and yet is light enough that you don't feel caked.

The bronzer has an SPF 15 in it, protecting my delicate skin from those pesky UV rays.

The quality of this sun disc is GENUINELY second to none, and I'm not just saying that for the goodness of health.

I swear by it, and the fact that it ois a fraction of the cost of Estee Lauder is yet another reason I'm on board.

If you are a bronzing addict, do yourself a favour and give the NOTE bronzer a whirl.

Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

When it comes to relationships, playing away is undoubtedly one of the most devastating things your partner can do.

Anyone who's ever been cheated on will know how utterly shit it can make you feel.

Sad, lonely, hurt and confused, you'll ask yourself if it was something you did?

Of course the answers is no, but it's hard think logically when you've been betrayed by the one person you thought would never hurt you.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and even though it may not feel like it at the time, it'll could make you a better person in the end.

Research suggests that women could actually enjoy huge benefits after being betrayed by an unfaithful partner.

A survey of 5,705 people from 96 countries found the women tend to thrive post-cheating, mainly because they are no longer being held back by an unfaithful partner, and will invest in better relationships in the future.

According to study author, Dr Craig Morris, a woman who's been cheated on will ultimately 'win' in the long run.

“The woman who ‘loses’ her mate to another woman will go through a period of post-relationship grief and betrayal, but come out of the experience with higher mating intelligence that allows her to better detect cues in future mates that may indicate low mate value.

“Hence, in the long-term, she ‘wins.’”

The research showed that six months to a year later women display higher levels of emotional intelligence, as well as improved self-confidence.

What's more, our f*ck boy radar gets kicked up a notch, meaning we're more likely to end up with someone who'll treat us the way we deserve to be treated.

So basically, while infidelity can be absolutely devastating, it could end up being the best thing that ever happened to you.

Silver linings and all that.

Unless you've been gifted with perfectly clear and radiant skin, you'll know that not all skincare products deliver the results they promise.

Maybe you've chosen the wrong product for your skin type, or perhaps the chemical in a certain cream have caused you to break-out, either way, if you've had an adverse reaction to a heavily manufactured product, it might be worth considering some more natural ways to look after you skin.

Yeates Natural Products in a Irish company making skin care products using 100 per cent natural ingredients.

Created by Terry Yeates, the idea for the business came about while his wife Mary was recovering from cancer.

After she was advised to steer clear of certain beauty products which may have high levels of hormones and other synthetic compounds, Terry decided to make a natural skin cream that she could use.

"Modern lifestyles don't always create optimal conditions for physical wellness, as environmental toxins can leave the body unbalanced.  However this can be addressed by using my natural products made from pure oils," he says.

"Parabens and synthetic free, we never test on animals, or buy from any supplier that tests on animals. We are Vegan Friendly and use 100% recyclable packaging. The  problem with conventional skincare products is that you don't know what's in them and what effect they can have on your body.  So if you want to know what's in the bottle, go natural!"

From lavender hand cream to natural clay cleansers, Yeates Natural Beauty products have everything you need to revamp your entire skin-care routine.

If you ever needed a reason to spice up you sex life, this is it.

A study published in the Journal of Impotence Research found that missionary is actually the second most dangerous position for heterosexual couples.

During their research, experts looked at the “relationship between sexual position and severity of penile fracture” in an attempt to identify the positions most likely to cause sexual trauma in men.

90 patients (men aged 18 – 66) who had suffered a penile fracture were asked how the injury came about – and the results were not as risqué as you might expect.

Topping the list was doggy style with 44 per cent, followed by man on top missionary on 25 per cent and woman on top with 10 per cent.

Researchers suggest a reason for this may be the fact that men tend to become “very excited” when they are in a dominant position.

“We can speculate that when the man is in a dominant position and very excited, intercourse can become extremely vigorous, triggering greater impact at the time of trauma when the penis slips out of the vagina and hits against the perineum or pubic symphysis.”

Other offenders on the list include masturbation (17 per cent), 'rolling over' (three per cent) and 'blunt trauma' (two per cent).

This really brings a whole new meaning to the term 'safe sex'.
