At a time where we can easily replicate animal skins and furs without harming animals, the question still lingers as to why high-end fashion brands would choose to contribute to a cruel industry like fur farming.

Luckily, it seems that the tides of change are turning, with brands like Gucci and Michael Kors recently pledging to ditch fur.

Now, haute couture house Versace is following suit.

Today, head designer Donatella Versace announced that the coveted brand is losing their misguided love of fur, and is going fur free.

Speaking in an interview, she said: 'Fur? I am out of that.

'I don’t want to kill animals to make fashion. It doesn’t feel right,' she told The Economist's 1843magazine.

Previously, Versace has included fur in many of its high-end designs.

'I think it’s the responsibility of a designer to try to break rules and cross barriers,' Donatella said, in a previous Instagram caption.

Here's to a more ethical future for the fashion brand.

Ladies, Chip Cup mayhem is about to recommence.

One of Beauty and the Beast's most beloved characters has been immortalised by Penneys over the last year, in the form of ceramic mugs, backpack, and the coveted chip cup purse.

Now, Penneys is treating us to a new style of Chip Cup, and it's the cutest one yet.

Disney fans will recall the heart-warming scene in Beauty and the Beast, in which Chip shows Belle his party trick, blowing bubbles in the tea he is holding.

The new Chip cup portrays that scene, and after Disney fans stormed Penneys stores last year to procure the original cup, we're sure this one will be just as much of a sell-out.

The Chip Bubble mug is going for €6.00 in Penneys stores, and is available right now.

Along with Chip, you can also pick up his Mum Mrs. Potts to keep him company.

See you in the queue…

Ah sisters, one minute you're fighting about who stole whose lipstick and the next you're best friends.

Well not only does having a sister give you access to a whole other wardrobe, but it's also been proven to make you a better, kinder person.

Makes all that stealing and beheading of Barbie dolls feel worth it.

Researchers at the Brigham Young University have found that having a sister helps you to develop social skills like communication, compromise and negotiation.

Head researcher, Alex Jensen points out that the presence of sisters eases feelings of being  lonely, unloved, guilty, self-conscious and fearful.”

“What we know suggests that sisters play a role in promoting positive mental health,” Jensen said, speaking to Motherly“And later in life they often do more to keep families in contact with one another after the parents pass.”

Sisters, according to the research, also promote positive social attributes such as compassion and generosity.

Even fighting has it's benefits, as leader study author Laura Padilla-Walker shared in an interview.

"Even if there is a little bit of fighting, as long as they have affection, the positive will win out," she explained. "If siblings get in a fight, they have to regulate emotions. That's an important skill to learn for later in life."

It works for boys as well. The study found that men who grow up with sisters tend to be better at communicating with women later in life, and vice versa.

“Some research suggests that having a sibling who is a different gender from you can be a real benefit in adolescence,” Jensen explains. “Many of those sibling pairs become closer during the teen years because they become good sources of information about the opposite sex.”

Why is this? Girls are more open to communication and positive reinforcement, leading to strong and healthier family bonds.

So you have a lot to thank your sister for- not just that jumper you stole ages ago (it looks better on you anyway).

So, we love good news, but every so often, it's important that we also share the bad news – we're sorry.

On this rainy hump day, we have learned that the grape harvest has not been remotely prosperous – resulting in a wine shortage.

According to The Guardian, wine production last year slumped to its lowest level in over 50 years.

The production issues happened because vines in the world's top three wine-producing regions being badly affected by 'freakishly hot and cold weather'.

The areas hit most include those producing Rioja and Prosecco – SAY IT AIN'T SO!

You know what happens if wine supplies drop? Prices go up.

"Prices for things like pinot grigio or generic Spanish reds will rise by between 10% and 30% and it's a question of how much of that retailers will pass on," claimed Dan Jago, chief executive of high end wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd.

"Prosecco was very hard hit by frost, so there will be less of it and the price will go up."

I'm nervous.

The Bordeaux region was also hit with adverse weather conditions:

"In Bordeaux the top 150 chateaux have not really been affected but the grand surface – the total acreage of Bordeaux – has been ravaged. The Bordeaux harvest, like the overall harvest across Italy and Spain, has been decimated but it tends to be the more flat lying, higher volume production land that has been hit."

Basically the world is facing its worst harvest since 1961, with production dropping 8 percent – to 247m hectolitres in 2017.

The Guardian says that a hectolitre is the equivalent of 133 standard wine bottles, so if you do the maths (which we didn't FYI), that means a grand total of 2.9 billion fewer bottles.

Holy HECK.

The actress has won the hearts of many for her Golden Globe-winning role, however, fans were highly disappointed to hear that she was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith.

Netflix revealed that Foy was paid less than the actor, who plays Prince Phillip, due to his previous role on the BBC’s Doctor Who.

The iconic theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76.

His three children confirmed the devastating news in a statement this morning:

“We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.
"His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world. He once said, ‘It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.’ We will miss him forever.”

His children- Tim, Lucy and Robert- added that their dad passed away peacefully at their family home in Cambridge earlier this morning.

At the age of 22, the world-renowned physicist was diagnosed with a rare type of motor neurone called ALS disease, he was given mere years to live.

However, he went on to achieve remarkable success, with his 1988 book A Brief History of Time selling millions of copies around the globe.

He had been paralysed since the age of 28, but despite this he continued to work, becoming Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, a role once held by Isaac Newton.

Best known for his scientific works, including his collaboration with Roger Penrose, which led him to discover that Einstein's General Theory of Relativity implies space and time would have a beginning in the Big Bang and an end in black holes.

The cosmologist also found that black holes should give off radiation and then disappear, this theory is now known as Hawking Radiation.

Tributes have been pouring in for the iconic British scientist.

Geraldine DeRuiter tweeted, “We were on earth at the same time as Stephen Hawking. That's kind of a miraculous thing. We breathed the same air as the man who demystified the stars.”

“According to an Australian physicist if #stephenhawking wanted to interrupt you he ran over your foot. His brilliance was carried lightly & with humour. I love that,” Rae Earl shared.

Neil deGrasse Tyson wrote, “His passing has left an intellectual vacuum in his wake. But it's not empty. Think of it as a kind of vacuum energy permeating the fabric of spacetime that defies measure.”

Inventor of the World Wide Web Tim Berners-Lee added, “We have lost a colossal mind and a wonderful spirit. Rest in peace, Stephen Hawking.”

Singer Zayn Malik and supermodel Gigi Hadid have split after more than two years together.

The former One Direction revealed the news on Twitter earlier this evening, writing: : "Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend. She has such an incredible soul.

"I'm grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time. We wish this news would have come from us first. We love you all."

Rumour has it the pair parted ways earlier this month after having drifted apart in recent times.

A source told The Sun Online, “They are no longer a couple but they do remain close and are supportive of each other.”

"The reality is that they've grown apart, having been together for a long time."

It's thought that Zayn and Gigi's hectic work schedules put pressure on the realtionship, though the source did say ther eis no bad blood between the pair.

"This is definitely the end for now, but this isn't a bitter split and they both have respect for each other," they said.

"It's a mutual decision so no one has completely ruled out a reunion in the future, but for now that's not where their heads are at."

It only takes a quick scroll through Daft.ie, or a passing glance in an estate agents window to realise that Dublin's property market is, for lack of a better term, in absolute bits.

Renters are forced to opt for sub-standard accommodation as they search for properties close to work or college, while first-time buyers are being priced out of the market left, right and centre.

Average house prices in Dublin have now surpassed the 400k mark, which, by our calculations, means we'll be the proud owner of a cosy three bed semi some time mid-2036.

It's enough to make you want to pack it all in and start a new life as dairy farmer on the east coast of Kerry – which, when you consider how much affordable housing becomes once you venture outside The Pale, actually doesn't sound like a bad idea.

In an attempt to highlight just what you can get for your money, we've done some digging and discovered the dreamiest Cork mansion.

Set in a tranquil location just a short distance from Fermoy, Ballyclough House is nothing short of a fairytale.

Sitting on just under 2 acres of lush gardens, this dream home boasts a wonderful staircase hall, two large reception rooms, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Oh, and the best part? This gorgeous Elizabethan style mansion is on the market for just €450,000.

Still a big chunk of cash, sure. But when you consider an apartment in Dublin 4 could set you back in excess of €1.5 million, it's serious value for money.
