Yearly Archives: 2016

Since entering the jungle last week, it seemed Scarlett Moffatt of Gogglebox fame has been on course to take this year's I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here crown.

But while a major hit with the vast majority of viewers, Scarlett's conduct at camp hasn't impressed everyone on the outside world.

It appears the current dynamic between Scarlett, Danny Baker and Martin Roberts has come to the attention of a leading anti-bullying charity who feel Scarlett and Danny have targeted the Homes Under the Hammer host.

After ignoring Scarlett's requests to restock the water supply, Martin was reminded by Danny that Scarlett is currently President of the camp and he needs to adhere to her rules.

"Martin, she’s the President mate – whatever she says to do, you do it," Danny told Martin. "You always answer her back like she’s some silly kid and she isn’t.”

The tension appears to have gotten the better of Martin who, at times. was reduced to tears over the disputes.

Commenting on Martin's experience in the jungle, National Bullying Helpline founder Christine Platt said: “It’s a pity there are no phones as we would want to encourage Martin to call us right now."

“All forms of bullying or psychological abuse are abhorrent to us. It seems Scarlett and Danny are colluding and collectively targeting Martin."

“If the bullying has reached the point where the target is showing visible signs of distress, ITV need to intervene as a matter of priority" she added.

Responding to the controversy, ITV said: "The welfare of our celebrities is of utmost importance."

"We constantly monitor and talk to them to check their welfare and have procedures in place to address any unacceptable behaviour.”

Known for her light-hearted approach to life, it’s not often we see Ellen DeGeneres cry.

But the star was left teary eyed in the White House yesterday as she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

The 58-year-old comedian was one of 21 people – which included Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Diana Ross, Michael Jordan and Bruce Springsteen – who were granted the prestigious award in acknowledgement of their contributions to American society.

Praising the host’s decision to publicly reveal her sexuality despite the effect it could have had on her career, the President said: “It’s easy to forget now…just how much courage was required for Ellen to come out on the most public of stages almost 20 years ago.”

He acknowledged the effect that move had on the LGBT community and the general public as it forced people to “challenge [their] assumptions and remind [them they] have more in common than [they] realise”.

“What an incredible burden that was to bare,” he said.  “To risk your career like that.  People don’t do that very often.”

Mr Obama then decided to make a joke to “break the mood” as he felt himself “getting kind of choked up” while speaking of Ellen.

The celebrated television presenter came out as a lesbian in 1997.  Her sitcom, Ellen, was cancelled shortly afterwards, leaving her unemployed and “mired in depression”.

She married Portia de Rossi at their Beverly Hills home in August 2008.

Named FICO Eatery World, the tourist attraction is aimed to educate visitors about Italian home-grown food.

It will also include a really cute green market, where you can buy the produce that is grown all around the park.

And the creators, Mario Bataly and Joe Bastianich, are certainly sparing no expense, forking out a massive €99m to make the park a success.

It's planned to open in September 2017, but we already want to be there…

We're so used to seeing the classic nativity scene in our mother's and granny's houses, so wait until you lay your eyes on this hipster version.

We admittedly laughed out loud when we saw this, just because it's so… millennial.

Joseph is perched down in the manger holding up an iPhone to take a seflie with Mary and their new baby, Jesus.

Mary is posing like the ultimate 2010 girlo, with a duck-face and peace sign, while holding a Starbucks cup.

But best of all is the three wise men, who are on Segways holding Amazon parcels.

Oh, and the sheep is wearing a Christmas jumper!

If you fancy having this little rocket of a nativity scene in your house, you can buy it here.

As the debate continues about whether it’s too early to put up the Christmas tree or if it’s just too soon to be listening to festive music, there is one thing that all Irish people, at home and abroad, can agree on; it’s never too early for The Late Late Toy Show.

Yes, whether you are generation Gay, Pat or Ryan, for one Friday night a year we all set up camp in front of our tellies and watch the magic happen.

And while dreams do indeed come true on that glorious night, there is one dream that many of us have yet to see granted and that’s to be one of the lucky few sat in the audience enjoying the show up close.

Well, one woman is taking it into her own hands this year and making her plea through a series of hilarious videos with the hopes of getting herself that golden ticket.

Veronica Barry has been taking her case straight to Mr Ryan Tubridy himself and we have to admit, it’s pretty convincing.

From sledding her way to RTE studios to doing a very special Toy Show Ice Bucket Challenge, Veronica is fighting for her place at this year’s big event.

The Dublin-native even roped in the help of Santa Claus himself in a bid to get her hands on two tickets.

We're in two minds about this because, honestly, if five million quid ended up in your bank account, what would you do?

Christine Jiaxin Lee, a student from Malaysia but living in Australia, checked her bank account one day to find she had an added $4.6m in her available funds… and let's just say she went all out.

The mix-up, which was on the bank's part, meant that the 21-year-old could go on a wild shopping spree… and boy, did she.

The engineering student bought a very fancy apartment in Sydney as well as an abundance of designer handbags.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, this went on for a YEAR before the bank noticed and in that time she spent $3.3m.

However, when the bank copped on to Christine, she was arrested. Hours later she was released on bail but now has to report to her local police station twice per day, as well as give up her passport.

And she has to pay ALL of the money back.

Christine claimed that she thought the money was put in by her parents, which at first sounds like a long shot, but further reports say that her mother and father are paying the whole amount back to the bank as soon as, so their daughter won't be in debt.

She told the paper that her parents "are not very happy with me."

Well… obviously.

Even though we have lived in Ireland for most of our lives, it's safe to say we will probably never get used to the bitter winds, frosty mornings and the bashing rain that we meet on a daily basis during the winter.

Along with our skin (and moods), our hair gets really damaged during this season – brittle, weary and just pure dull, which is not the best look for when we're heading on our Christmas nights out.

Well, Aussie has created a new Winter Miracle range which will bring your gruaige back from the brink of frostbite.

The shampoo, conditioner and its classic 3 Minute Miracle deep treatment will leave your hair nourished from root to tip.

Aussie Haircare Ambassador Ben Cooke says: “The Aussie Winter Miracle range will be your hair saviour for the winter season. Most women think summer wreaks hair havoc, but winter can be even more damaging.

"My top tip for glossy-looking locks is to use the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Winter intensive treatment at least once a week – it’s extra-concentrated and you’ll instantly feel and see the difference.”

And ladies, it won't break the bank either. The Winter Miracle shampoo and conditioner is only €5.29 and Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle is only €6.59.

Sure, we'll only look smashing!

Commenting on her decision to change careers, Mimi said according to The Metro. ‘I felt like my creativity was suppressed. I enjoyed teaching but I wasn’t completely happy. I needed a new challenge."

"I’ve always been arty and had done bridal makeup before, which people really liked I’d not done anything as crazy as the work I do now, though," she added.

Front view of the multiple-eye/lips #makeup illusion I did on Emma for Halloween. She requested one of the first multiple-eye looks that I've ever done, but I couldn't stand doing the exact same thing again so I had to add a bit to it. Honestly I'm surprised that people still seem to like this kind of illusion that I do, even though it's been recreated over and over again since I did my first one a year ago. It's crazy how this kind of makeup illusion has spread and has somehow become a norm. I still enjoy painting this very much but I personally don't find this trippy at all anymore… Next time I'm doing these, I'll make sure to incorporate brand new elements that will stimulate my brain again!#MIMLESHALLOWEEN

Mimi often uses herself as a guinea pig, saying: "My face is a blank canvas where I can practice my art."

"I take my inspiration from everywhere. If a woman is wearing a coat with a funky pattern on it, I think I’ll do that on my face. I try to find beauty in everything."

After attempting a few designs, Mimi showed them to her family who encouraged her to pursue the interest, and the former teacher is now a go-to Instagram personality among the creative community.

"This is not makeup, this is sorcery….wow" wrote one of Mimi's followers recently while another added: "Your talent is on another level."

"I didn't think it could get any better, but it did!" gushed another.

Ah lads, could you cope?!

If this is true, we're going to be heartbroken…

InTouch has revealed that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have split up.

The website claims that both stars are not taking it very well, but the reason for their split is still unknown.

Katy Perry Orlando Bloom

A source said: "Not long after Halloween, Orlando confessed to pals that he'd decided to end their relationship. He claimed that he's just not ready to get married and have babies."

However, another source is claiming that it was Katy who said goodbye to her actor beau.

For the sake of love in this world, we hope it's only a temporary split.

Well, we bet Kim isn't too happy about the timing of this song.

Just weeks after she was robbed in Paris and mere hours after her hubby Kanye was rushed to hospital, the reality star's ex, Jay J, has released a track trashing her.

After Kanye depicted Ray J in his Famous video, Ray has come back with a Famous of his own.

Co-written by Chris Brown, the song references Kim and her family in quite… well, vulgar language.

"Look at the family, they walk around proud/ All because she had my d*ck in her mouth," and "She f*cked me for fame, look in her eyes/ She was the first one to sign on the line," are just some of the lines that references his former flame.

Ray J's last track, I Hit it First, back in 2013, was also about Kim, and frankly, we think he needs a new subject.

Shortly after news broke that Kanye West had been hospitalised yesterday, long-term friend John Legend was quizzed about the rapper's state of mind and wellbeing in recent weeks.

While reluctant to speak out of turn, the All of Me singer did acknowledge that Kanye had endured considerable stress since his wife Kim was the victim of an armed robbery in Paris.

"I think he's been through a lot lately with what happened to Kim," John told ET host Nischelle Turner. "I think he needs to rest."

"I think his fans will be patient and let him rest. He'll come back stronger, hopefully," he added.

Having cancelled his tour prior to being admitted to a hospital in LA, Kanye's mental health was discussed at length today, but it was not a topic which John wanted to engage with.

"I'm not gonna speak out of term and speak for him," the singer stressed. "All I can see is what he said to the public — and that is he's tired and needs some rest."

As it happens, John was with Kim shortly before Kanye was admitted to hospital and admitted that the turn of events was a cause for concern.

“We were with Kim actually, you know, right before all of that,” he said on CBS' This Morning earlier today.

“I was concerned by what I saw, so hopefully he’s getting some rest and some time to figure things out”.

Kanye is currently under observation after police responded to a medical welfare phone call yesterday afternoon.
