Jennifer Aniston has opened up about the strained nature of her dysfunctional relationship with her late mother, Nancy Dow.

The actress describes the correlation between their maternal bond and her complex new Netflix film Dumplin', in which she plays a pushy mother and former pageant queen.

In the new movie, her daughter is plus-size and enters herself in a competition purely to make a dramatic statement regarding unrealistic beauty standards in our society.

The 49-year-old actress spoke candidly to The Sunday Telegraph about the many parallels between how Dow treated her during her childhood and Dumplin's expression of mother-daughter relationships.

When asked whether the two were similar experiences, Aniston replied “Where do we start?”

“One of the reasons I really loved the mother-daughter aspect of it was because it was very similar in a way to what my mother, and our relationship, was,” Aniston told the publication.

Nancy Dow, based on Aniston's description of her, was clearly preoccupied with her daughter's appearance.

“She was a model and she was all about presentation and what she looked like and what I looked like,” The former Friends actress commented. The star endured a highly-publicised fall-out with former actress Dow.

“I did not come out the model child she’d hoped for and it was something that really resonated with me, this little girl just wanting to be seen and wanting to be loved by a mum who was too occupied with things that didn’t quite matter.”

The actress added that she really resonated with the film's message, which encourages the audience to embrace their flaws and imperfections.

"This movie is so special because it is about stripping away those preconceived notions of beauty, trying to become individuals and not feeling that we have to live up to some unrealistic ideal that society is feeding up to us," she explained.

"My idea of beauty is, it's what makes you feel beautiful and what makes me feel beautiful are the people around me, the life that I have. And maybe a good hair day."

Aniston previously told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 about Dow, saying; "She was very critical of me."

Nancy wrote a biographical book in 1999 about their strained relationship: From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir, which Aniston saw as a breach of privacy.

"Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn't. I never was. I honestly still don't think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine."

We think she's absolutely beautiful, inside and out. Dow passed away in 2016 at the age of 79, after a long illness.

Friends is our go-to show whenever we’re feeling uninspired, too lazy to watch something new or in need of a laugh. Sure, we’ve watched every episode at least a dozen times since it first aired in 1994, but there’s something so comforting about watching it again and again and again.

Our love for the show knows no bounds, but there is one storyline that never felt quite right for us and one of the cast members feels the same.

Kevin S Bright, director and executive producer of Friends revealed Matt LeBlanc hated the idea of Rachel and Joey hooking up.

He told Digital Spy that the actor protested against the strange storyline: “I can tell you this – in the beginning, Matt LeBlanc did not want to do that story.”

Rachel and Joey’s love affair was one of the least popular romances on the show. We’d sooner see her with Gunther, to be honest.

The pair’s ‘relationship’ just felt wrong. It was one we just couldn’t accept and Matt felt the same: “He was very firmly against it, saying that he's Ross's friend and that the type of friend that Joey is would never go and take someone else's girlfriend."

The director admitted they really had to twist Matt’s arm to get him to do the storyline. It was no easy battle. The actor felt shocked by Joey and Rachel’s love story, but eventually “got on board” with it after some very intense conversations.

Joey may not have been Rachel’s lobster, but at least he’ll always appreciate her famous trifle.

Friends has been revealed as the most-watched streaming show and we’re not one bit surprised. There are dozens of series we need to watch, but sometimes all you want to do is curl up on the sofa and watch Friends, despite the fact that you’ve seen every episode at least five times.

In a report by Ofcom, the American comedy came out on top, beating shows like Peaky Blinders, The Crown and Stranger Things to the number one spot.

There are so many things we love about the show, from Chandler’s witty sense of humour to Monica’s immaculate apartment- can she come over and clean our houses, please?

Some episodes will have you doubled over with laughter, whilst others will warm your heart. Some might leave you feeling pretty emotional and others will actually teach you important life lessons.

Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, Ross, Monica and Rachel took their final bow in 2004 when The Last One Part 2 aired, but the show has only strengthened in popularity since we waved goodbye to the gang.

14 years on from the final episode and the show is just as popular as ever. It’s easier than ever to tune into the show with never-ending episodes on Comedy Central and the entire 236 episodes on Netflix.

The show's charm, humour and loveable characters make it easy to watch again and again, but there’s also a scientific reason behind our love for the sitcom.

Author Neel Burton told Huffington Post: “Nostalgia can lend us much-needed context, perspective and direction, reminding and reassuring us that our life is not as banal as it may seem. It also tells us that there have been — and will once again be –meaningful moments and experiences.”

Now that we know watching Friends is good for us we’ll be binge-watching the show until we’re old and grey.

Could we BE more excited?

Get ready to cringe!

The excitement is doubled when your friend ties the knot and asks you to be part of their special day as a bridesmaid.

Courtney Duffy had booked flights and bought the jumpsuit that bride-to-be and friend Alexandra had chosen for her bridal party.

Courtney made every effort to be a part of her friend's big day as she would be flying across America from her college to the venue and back again in the same evening of the nuptials to make her evening university classes – if that isn't dedication, we don't know what is.

However, Alexandra wasn't so convinced and via email she informed the college student that her role as bridesmaid would be given to another friend.

The awkward email opens with Alexandra saying: “I’m so glad to hear you booked your flights.”

“I have a massive favour to ask you though – and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to ask anyone – but I need to ask you to relinquish your duties as bridesmaid.”

The email then goes from bad to worst as the reasoning behind her axing was her lack of participation in the day-to-day planning of the wedding.

“The whirlwind nature of what your travel has become just won’t work with the duties as a party member,” wrote the bride-to-be.

Alexandra added, “I am so, so sorry!!”

Courtney explained that she had missed the bachelorette trip and pre-wedding prep, in addition to flying home on the big night because of her commitment to her MBA in the American college, Dartmouth.

If you didn't think things could get anymore awkward – think again – the bride proceeds to ask for the jumpsuit to be returned so the friend replacing her could wear it. (CRINGE)

Closing the email Alexandra said: “Please don’t feel like you’re letting me down…I am asking you to do this. I love and value your friendship so much…”

As the realisation kicked in of the email contents, Courtney turned to Twitter and sent a screenshot of the email to Jet Blue airlines in a bid to get her flight refunded.

In the since deleted tweet, Courtney explained:  “Booked my X-C flights for a wedding, then was asked ‘to relinquish’ my “duties as a bridesmaid” so another girl could fill in and wear it. I am laughing and crying and must avoid this wedding at all costs. Pls help?”

Jet Blue heard her cries and the student won't have to fork out in cancellation fees and will receive a voucher.

The airline didn't stop there and extended their gesture of goodwill with offering the two (ex) friends a chance to clear the air and smooth over the situation with a future girls' weekend on them.

No doubt the free trip was a lovely touch, but the Internet just wasn't having any of it.

Twitter users suggested that even though it was a lovely thought, they think Courtney is better off without the bride.

"Very nice of Jet Blue – but can Courtney take a nice friend?" asked one.

"I mean, this is very sweet, but what if she doesn't want to patch up this friendship? I certainly wouldn’t," tweeted another.

"Very sweet but Courtney needs to ditch that friend. Courtney needs a trip with a real friend. I suggest Jamaica," added a user.

Courtney was clearly overwhelmed with the response and issued a series of tweets:

"Wow, did not expect this response – clearly the situation resonated. Thanks @jetblue for providing the refund I was hoping for, and thanks to everyone for chiming in with well wishes, humor, and even devil’s advocacy," she wrote.

"Weddings have gotten totally out of control – this is about more than just an email. I’m hoping this thread reminds future lovebirds and bridal parties to keep their feet on the ground," she added in another tweet.

Call us bitter but we hope she didn't return the dress and she's sipping cocktails on that tropical islands sans the bride.

Are you one of THOSE people? The person who still watches the Friends repeats on Comedy Central because it is pure telly gold. Sure, years after it was actually on the air we could see it had more than a few issues; Ross still being a Class A jerk (they were not on a break and Rachel deserved better), some gags that weren't exactly PC and diversity in casting? Yeah, there was none tbh.

But, it was of its time. We loved it then, we still (or, for the most part at least) love it now and to fuel our obsession with too much coffee and Joey's love of not sharing food (sometimes, being selfish is worth it) Penneys have just announced a new Friends-themed collection.

OK so, we hate to be the barer of bad news, but it turns out we've all been singing the Friends theme song wrong for our entire lives, and we only have ourselves to blame.

The downright shocking revelation came during last night's Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway finale on ITV, leaving many viewers questioning whether or not their entire lives were just one big lie.

Broadcasting live from Universal Resort Florida, Declan Donnelly and his co-hosts Stephen Mulhern and Scarlett Moffatt welcomed a musical guests, The Remebrants, to preform their most iconic track, and theme to the hit 90s sitcom, I'll Be There For You

Now, we have to admit, after hearing the song a million times throughout our countless Friends binge-watching sessions, we thought we had the lyrics down to a tee.

Wrong.

Taking part in a live competition, one woman (and the entire nation) was left absolutely bewildered when she end up missing out on a prize for getting the words wrong.

It turns out the song lyrics don't actually say "when the rain begins to FALL," but rather, "when the rain begins to POUR" – mind blown.

The segment sparked a huge reaction online, with many viewers taking to Twitter to share their shock.

At least we're not the only ones.

This might make me sound like a total aul wan – but I bloody love a good board game.

I spent my childhood playing Pay Day, Cluedo and Monopoly, and it was a great time in my life, let me tell ya.

Anyway, mny penchant for board games became even more obvious when I discovered that Monopoly are releasing a Friends version.

Yes, really.

The classic game is being twisted into a version that is perfect for anyone obsessed with Friends (Us).

Play as either Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Joey or Chandler by choosing one of the exclusive tokens which are iconic to the gang; will it be Rachel’s handbag, Ross’ dinosaur, Chandler’s sweater vest or even Phoebe’s acoustic guitar?

AMAZING.

As you pivot around the table you will be taken down memory lane of the best memories from Friends.

Get this brilliant game here for a reasonable thirty quid (it is a collectors edition, to be fair).

For too long now, we've been teased with rumours of a Friends reunion and while we've learnt not to get our hopes up too high, it still hurts when one of the stars says it's never gonna happen.

Matt LeBlanc, a.k.a Joey Tribianna, has made his feelings about the possibility of a reunion very clear, and honestly, we're heartbroken.

Speaking to the Mail Online, the actor said "I don't want to do it – simple."

Ouch.

He went on to explain hor the show was about a finite period in the lives of six best friends trying to find their way in the world after college, and to revisit the characters now just wouldn't be the same.

He added: "People want to know what happened to them. But it was about a finite period in a person’s life after college, before you settle down and start a family.

"To go back and revisit all these years later, well I don’t know what the story would be now. They would all have moved on from that period so it just wouldn’t be the same."

"Put bluntly, I don’t think anybody wants to see an old Joey having a colonoscopy."

Em.. we beg to differ, Matt.

And just to really rub salt in the wound, Matt concluded by saying: "Normally I’d never say never, but in the case of Friends I would definitely say never."

It's iconic. That violet hue adorning Monica's apartment's walls in Friends is simply unmistakable, yet also puzzling.

Often we find ourselves pondering one question during the unending reruns of our favourite sitcom (and no, it's not 'Were they on a break?'): why purple?

Yes, we love it, but it's definitely an unusual choice. Were the set designers big fans of grapes? Did they get a discount on that particular paint? Colour us intrigued!

Finally, all has been revealed. Set designer John Shaffner, the mastermind behind Monica's enviable apartment, spoke to Great Big Story about his colour choice.

"Everybody was really anxious," the accomplished production designer said of his paint decision.

One of the biggest reasons he chose that bold shade of violet was because it helped show the sitcom's personality.

"Colour is really important in establishing the show identity," he said.

John, who has also worked on the likes of The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, said that he thought the hue would help hook viewers.

"When you switch to Friends, you saw that it was purple and you stay tuned," he noted.

Colour choice isn't the only challenge a set designer faces, though. John observed, "One of the responsibilities of a production designer is to look into the future."

One such crystal ball moment was when he included the mystery door in Monica's apartment, which wasn't opened until season eight to reveal an overstuffed closet.

"We put a door all the way up this hallway and we really didn't say where it went to. I said, 'Why don't we just wait and see where the story is taken?'" John recalled.

And we were so happy to see where it went! Monica is totally the type of person to be ashamed of a messy closet.

Reflecting on his work, the Emmy Award-winner said, "I am so lucky that I got to design Friends."
