A billboard near the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo has sparked indignation with a gym ad that has been called both sexist and body-shaming.

Osmo Fitness' ad features a barrel and the tag line 'This is no shape for a woman', the BBC reports.

The ad went up in a suburb of the capital last week, and ever since has been criticised on social media.

Those condemning the ad started the hashtag campaign #BoycottOsmo.

Others took to Facebook, tagging Osmo and asking them to both remove the ad and apologise for its sexist message.

Activist Marisa de Silva told the BBC: 'The ad was nothing very different from the typical objectification and sexist usage of women by the ad industry, which has been selling anything from cars to perfume by sexualising women and their bodies.'

'But this ad also attempted to body shame by dictating to women the ideal shape they should resemble, almost as though it is the sole basis of their worth.'

She and others banded together to get the ad taken down. They first called the gym itself, who did not offer to take the image down, and added that the billboard's image was not approved by the company.

The activists then reached out to Harsha de Silva, the minister in charge of the Kotte constituency where the offensive ad was located.

He assured them via Twitter, 'I asked the Colombo MC Commissioner to remove this unapproved offensive hoarding. I would not tolerate this in Kotte.'

Marisa and others had a banner saying 'no more space for sexism' in Sri Lanka's three major languages – Sinhala, Tamil and English – put up over the offending ad.

Osmo Fitness responded to the controversy, issuing an official statement on January 19 saying that they will 'withdraw all communications relating to the advertisement in question'.

They explained that the ad was part of a scheduled awareness campaign promoting an 'Obesity-Free Sri Lanka'.

The statement also addressed the offence that the ad caused, noting:

'We would like to reiterate that we did not have any intention whatsoever to degrade, offend, insult or undermine any one person or women in general and that our moral obligation towards improving the overall health of all Sri Lankans is something that we take very seriously.'

They also offered a free phsyical fitness assessment and two-week membership to any woman who came Osmo Fitness on or before January 26.

The ad is now gone, as is the banner calling out sexism.

2. An Post

Last year, An Post launched Address Pal, a service which allows you to ship items to Ireland even if the company doesn't have the option on their site.

If you register with the service, you can have the items shipped to a UK An Post address you will receive on registering.

An Post will ship all items from the UK to Ireland and customers can collect them for just €3.50 at their designated post office. Handy!

3. Parcel Motel

Parcel Motel has a similar service to An post. If you order your parcel to the Parcel Motel virtual UK delivery address, they can transfer it to Ireland for a €3.50 collection charge.

Geordie Shore's Gaz Beadle certainly did not endear himself to mothers when he leapt to his girlfriend Emma McVey's defence yesterday – and in the process insulted women everywhere.

The couple became parents less than two weeks ago, and since then, the very svelte Emma has shed her baby weight.

Emma recently shared an Insta post saying that she's back to her pre-pregnancy weight a mere 10 days after giving birth to her first child.

LINK IN BIO  I’m back to my original weight and shape in 10 days! I swapped from my energy and maintenance shakes to the fat loss ones the past 7 days so a huge thank you to herbalife…this is one of the main reasons me and @gazgshore have decided to team up with them (don’t want him having a dad bod)  I gained a total of 28lbs which was a good amount of weight for me and Chester who was 6lbs2. You all had so many questions about the shakes I posted and had throughout my pregnancy so I’ve decided to start sharing my journey with you alongside my healthy meals and snacks! THIS IS NOT A SHAKE ONLY DIET. I specifically had shakes for the nutrients and energy they gave me and of course the fat loss ones because who doesn’t want to get back to their original shape after pregnancy?!  I still stuck to a balanced diet and ate 3 meals throughout the day from @prepfooduk  follow the link in my bio to see all of the programmes including the fat loss one I’ve just done myself  SAFE WHILST BREASTFEEDING

A post shared by Emma McVey (@emma_jane1392) on

The 25-year-old attributed her weight loss to Herbalife shakes, a company for which she's an ambassador, Pretty 52 reports.

However, her post was met with negative feedback from people who thought it concerning the new mum lost weight so quickly and was encouraging others along the same path.

'I'm sorry but this is an awful thing to post! It's almost encouraging new mums to use Herbalife to try and get skinny when they should be focusing on their newborn not how much they weight! Unfollowed!' one person wrote.

A post shared by gazgshore (@gazgshore) on

Comments have now been disabled for the post. However, not before Gaz hit back at Emma's critics.

'All the negative comments are coming from people who when pregnant used the excuse to eat everything under the sun because they were (eating for two) had a kid then realised sh*t I can't shift this weight…' he wrote.

'No one is saying bad stuff to you for feeding your baby unhealthy sh*t throughout your pregnancy (take aways, chocolate, pizza) yet you hate on someone eating healthy throw there's [sic]. Jesus.'

A post shared by Emma McVey (@emma_jane1392) on

'Women I will never understand you have all lost the plot… and it's easy to lose that weight etc.'

'It's called not being lazy and doing something about it but if commenting on here makes you feel better then crack on. Rant over. [sic]'

While it's understandable to want to shield his girlfriend from criticism, why not commend other new mums for literally bringing life into this world instead of body-shaming them?

Dublin has some seriously creative street artists, who constantly battle with Dublin City Council to have their work maintained on Dublin's walls.

One half of The Rubberbandits, BlindBoy has been immortalised in spray paint on the outside of Dublin venue The Hangar.

The mural is the work of Subset, who showcased the piece on Instagram.

A post shared by SUBSET (@subsetdublin) on

Subset are responsible for many of the beautiful works of street art Dubliners are lucky enough to encounter on the daily.

Remember that epic Stormzy mural down in Smithfield? You can thank Subset for that.

And the Make Dublin Grey Again mural which ruffled a few feathers thanks to it's depiction of Donald Trump?

A post shared by SUBSET (@subsetdublin) on

Once again, Subset are responsible.

Not content with making an aesthetic piece, Subset added a quote against Donald Trump's leadership from BlindBoy which reads:

'Donny is more terrifying than a Jack Russell with human hands.'

The street art group have been fighting a long battle with Dublin City Council, who continue to paint over their art.

The council calls the art 'unauthorised developments,' and says that the work is a breach of city planning.

Head into town to see the piece for yourself.
