Pop culture Halloween costumes are always all the rage every year.

I mean, who wouldn't love getting all dressed up as your fave movie character/social media star/gas meme?

Some of these costume ideas are so 2018 and others are pure classics.

So maybe chuck that weathered witches hat in the bin and forget about those shitty devil ears and embrace something a bit more quirky…

1. Mia Wallace

This is an iconic look, made famous by Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, this look is an easy one if you're in a bit of a last-minute dither. Short black wig, slash of red lippie, white shirt and black trousers and of course, the ciggie for show. Now al you gotta do is the twist with someone dressed as Joh Travolta's Vinny.

2. Any Riverdale character

This cringe-fest on the CW has given us so much Halloween inspo. You could be Betty Cooper – tight high ponytails and granny clothes, or Veronica Lodge – a sixteen-year-old who goes to school every day in a short Blair Walforf-eque dress, heels and a string of pearls.

Jughead Jones is easy – plonk a hat on your head and write 'Southside Serpent' on a black leather jacket. See? So many ideas.

3. Mamma Mia!

It was the movie of the summer and you could literally wear something sparkly and say you're one of the characters. However, if you wanna channel Young Donna, think 1970's bohemian style – floaty dresses and flowy skirts, lots of denim and wedge sandals. Don't forget to lash on the jewellery as well and voila.

 4. Cher Horowitz

She is and always will be a Queen of pop culture. Clueless gave us Cher, the spoilt rich LA kid embodies all that is 1990's teenage hood fashion. So break out that checkered yellow two-piece you must have somewhere and dig up a phone with an antennae. As if!

5. Carrie

One of the most famous gals in cinema horror, bullied teen Carrie White after she gets pigs blood dumped on her is a timeless nod to pop culture.

Get a white/pale-coloured fancy dress, a sash saying 'Prom Queen' if poss and a plastic tiara. Then just go for it- slather the fake blood EVERYWHERE. The messier the better.

6. Ariana Grande

The undisputed Pop Queen of 2018.

This gal has been through a lot so pull that hair up into the highest ponytail possible, slick on that eyeliner and channel the 'God is a Woman' vid.

7. Steve Harrington

It wouldn't be Halloween without a Stranger Things reference, now would it?

King Steve, Hawkin's resident babysitter, is an easy one – '80s-inspired tight jeans, a grey windbreaker, yellow gloves and whoosh up that hair with some major hairspray. Baseball bat with nails optional.

8. Michael Myers

This one ahs been popular since the first Halloween movie came out in 1978, however in honour of the final and fab Halloween movie being released this month, we had to include the serial killer that's slashed his way through the teenage babysitters of Haddonfield.

9. Sabrina the Teenage Witch

Although we love the '90s Nickelodeon version, thanks to the Netflix reboot Sabrina might become a Halloween staple costume again.

10. Hormone Monster from Big Mouth

If you haven't seen this f*cking hilarious Netflix show, then do ASAP.

The Hormone Monsters Maury and Connie have quickly become TV show classics and it's so easy to be them this year – all you need is some fake fur, a big wig and some horns.

12. Meghan Markle

It wouldn't be a 2018 Halloween if you didn't see at least a handful of Meghan costumes around.

You can do wedding Meghan were she looked like a Disney princess or Royal Tour Meghan…we'd go for the bride look tho. Classy and fab. Kinda like her.

There is nothing traditional (or healthy) in a spice bag, but we can't help but love them. Along with pizza and burgers, this tasty dish is among our favourite takeaway options.

With his book Fakeaway, Chef Adrian shares his own version of some takeaway classic so we can enjoy them without the guilt.

Chef Adrian's version of the spice bag uncovers the whole truth about what goes in this dish – but it's much healthier than the original…

THE SPICE BAG

"The latest trendy thing to eat across Ireland is the spice bag. It’s sold in Chinese takeaways, but was invented in Ireland. With this dish, it’s all about the spice mixture. Here’s my version."

Serves 2

  • 2 chicken breasts, sliced into small strips
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • 200g ground almonds
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • Sliced red and green chilli (optional)
  • For the chips
  • 4 medium-sized Maris Piper potatoes, washed
  • 2 sprigs of rosemary, chopped
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted

For the spice

  • 2 good pinches of sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  •   ½ teaspoon chilli powder

1. Preheat the oven to 200ºC/400ºF/gas mark 6.

2. To make the chips, slice the potatoes to whatever thickness you like. Sprinkle with the chopped rosemary and sliced onion, coat with the coconut oil and bake for 35–40 minutes. Make sure you mix all the ingredients with your hands before cooking. If your tray isn’t non-stick, use some greaseproof or parchment paper.

3. To prepare the chicken, place the strips into the beaten egg. In a separate bowl mix the cumin and ground almonds, then place the chicken strips into the mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. If you find they aren’t fully coated, go back and dip into the egg and then back into the ground almond mix once more.

4. Place the chicken onto a baking tray, put it in the oven and bake for 20–30 minutes.

5. Mix the spices together in a small bowl. Once cooked, combine the chicken and chips and then from a height sprinkle the spice mix over them, making sure to coat both the chicken and chips.

6. I recommend serving this in a bag or wrapped up in some newspaper, with a sprinkling of red and green sliced chilli.

Louise Sheehan, Clarins Fragrance Group National Trainer, shared her top tips for making a fragrance work for you, and gave her  expert knowledge on how scents really work.

Let me set the scene… you are perusing through a beautiful fragrance hall, something catches your eye, you stop and pick up the bottle that drew your attention.

Usually, we either smell the nozzle or take hold of a blotter nearby and spray this fragrance onto it, right? If we like it we will usually dose ourselves all over and ask questions later… We promptly make up our minds based on what we smell in that very moment.

No one can convince you to like a smell you don’t or vice versa. So, when you find a fragrance you truly LOVE, like all relationships of love, there are rules of engagement to be followed. Patience is what my mum always told me to have and when it comes to perfume timing it is everything.

The initial spray of fragrance is merely embarking on your fragrance journey – but like all first impressions, it can stop you in your tracks if you don’t like it. However, you should remember the first impression a fragrance is fleeting, usually lasting only several minutes.

This is the first of the three levels of scent, called Notes, within all fragrance. You are smelling the Top Notes when you first spray the bottle. Fresh notes of citrus heritage are the most popular for the perfumer to use like bergamot, orange, mandarin, lemon, lime and basil.

So, when you are invited to “give it a few minutes “or “take a walk around and come back in an hour” by the consultant in the perfumery department – it’s not because they want you to leave, it is all about what comes next after the initial first spray.

The Middle Note, or as I always loved it being referred to as, the “heart of the fragrance” lingers with us a lot longer. Usually these notes are more expensive then our top notes, they give us more of an idea of how the fragrance wants to be perceived. If you like florals the heart notes of gardenias, red roses, peonies or jasmine would be heaven to you. Heart notes can last up to an hour on the skin.

The Base Note or lasting impression of the fragrance is usually what we really love and how we remember a fragrance. This is what you smell on your scarf or his shirt the next day.

These notes are the most expensive for the perfumer to use, as they last the longest amount of time on our skin. All notes can be mixed up, a perfumer can mix woody notes with florals, range from patchouli and vanilla to oud and vetiver in their fragrances.

I loved when my mother baked sponge cake – so for me, vanilla will always be my most beloved smell. Everyone has a smell that can transport them back in time to their childhood or family home. For me, even Christmas morning had a distinct smell that I can remember of hot chocolate and cinnamon. Smells are memories. So, fragrances really are powerful.

Doesn’t it make sense for a beautiful way to capture the memory of your wedding day in its entirety is to give it a unique scent? Scent the room you get ready in with candles, scent the church with diffusers or even more candles? Adorn yourself with a new scent you have taken time to choose? Every time you wear this fragrance you are brought back in time to the happy day.

My top tip of how to keep a scent on your skin are very simple… layering. It is by no coincidence that fragrances have their own complimentary lines (shower gels, shampoos, body creams or lotions). Well-hydrated skin will hold onto a fragrance best, and I mean hours longer. I have heard so many tips along my travels but the easiest way is to start is in your morning shower with the fragranced shower wash, then apply the body cream or lotion.

Body creams are always more hydrating than a lotion but take longer to be absorbed than lotion, so it is down to texture preference and how long you have before you need to get dressed. When ready, you simply spray your perfume and you are done.

I did say “spray” and not spray onto wrist and smush your two wrists together thus actually burning through the fragrance molecules and destroying the fragrance journey. NO STOP THAT.

It is a myth that rubbing our wrist together after we spray or doing any rubbing at all of perfumes helps them stay on our skin any longer. The opposite is actually true.

By doing this you race through the top and heart notes of the fragrance and even distort the true scent of the fragrance. Don’t get me wrong, I understand how hard this habit is to break. It will take willpower to resist the smush, most of us have done it so many times and are therefore programmed to do it, but it’s like applying your lipstick before your foundation, it just doesn’t make sense.

I remember helping a bride choose two different fragrances for her wedding day. This wasn’t unusual – a lot of brides choose one fragrance for the day and then want a different fragrance to wear for the night, usually a sexier scent. You can even choose to gift the bridesmaid party with a fragrance that compliments your chosen scent for the day.

However, this bride had different thoughts. She explained to me, she would ask one bridesmaid to spray from her from top to toe but only on the front on her dress. Next, she commanded her second dutiful bridesmaid to spray her from again top of head to the hem of her wedding dress from behind.

Why?? Wait for it…. This bride wanted to greet her guests when she walked down the aisle to her soon to be husband with the perfume that she wears every day, her signature scent. But once married, she wanted her guests to smell the now married version of herself with a completely new perfume as she walked back down the aisle arm-in-arm with husband. Talk about breaking rules eh?

I appreciated the vision she had, she asked did I think she was crazy? I called her idea genius and told her I had heard all genius are supposed to be little bit mad. I will add this bride wore black, this is probably the only reason I didn’t feel the urge to object, if this bride had chosen any other colour the risk of the perfume actually staining the dress would have been sky high.

My last tip comes from my favourite perfume creator Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler who created the fragrance cloud for his iconic and ultra-feminine Angel Perfume.

First you spray in a full circle movement your fragrance and then you walk through it, adorning yourself with your fragrance. With 26 years’ experience creating fragrance masterpieces, I trust his advice.

Explosive devices were discovered in mail sent to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

The Secret Service said: “We have intercepted two suspicious packages addressed to Secret Service protectees”.

According to The New York Times, these protectees were revealed to be the former president and secretary of state.

One of the IEDs (improvised explosive device) was sent to Clinton’s home in New York while the other, intended for Obama's residence, was intercepted in Washington DC.

They were discovered by technicians who regularly screen mail the former US official's mail.

“The packages were immediately identified during routine mail screening procedures as potential explosive devices and were appropriately handled as such,” said The Secret Service in a recent statement.

“The protectees did not receive the packages nor were they at risk of receiving them.”

The incident comes just days after a pipe bomb was found in liberal philanthropist George Soros' mailbox at his home. He is often publically criticized by right-wing groups for his leftist views.

Officials were able to interfere and dispose of the potentially harmful device before it detonated.

There has been no official connection between the bomb sent to Soros and those mailed to Clinton and Obama.

CNN headquarters were also sent an explosive device in the post which was intercepted by technicians before any harm was done.

The Today Show claimed the package was labelled with the return address of a prominent Democratic official, clearly a phony sender chosen to make a political statement.

More on this to come.

The Friends star told People that the word husband is just “a label”. What really matters is their devotion to one another.

Love is all about quality time and the gestures ones show each other, according to the happy couple.

In fact, that is how the pair plan on spending the holidays this season.

Courteney’s 14-year-old daughter Coco will be joining them for a fun, family Christmas – a tradition where the three “hang out, sing songs, play music, eat and drink…and be together.”

Courteney and Johnny are still as head over heels as when they first met and are prioritising what really matters in their love life.

Kate Middleton chose a special tiara to wear to the banquet with the Dutch royals

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands invited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to The Netherlands State Banquet.

The event was held at the lavish ballroom in the Buckingham Palace and many well-known guests were in attendance, including Prime Minister Theresa May.

As usual, Kate looked stunning in her classic choice of an Alexander McQueen gown, pastel blue with a mermaid cut.

But it was her jewellery that was the talk of the evening.

She wore the Lover’s Knot tiara, a favourite of Princess Diana’s, atop a sophisticated swept up hairstyle with the late princess’ matching earrings as well.

The tiara is over a century old and was often the Princess of Wales go-to choice at royal events.

According to The Court Jeweller, the tiara was originally commissioned by Queen Mary, who had to give up one of her own tiara’s for its making.

Diana inherited the former queen’s love of the piece, who wore it during Queen Victoria’s coronation.

When Queen Mary died in 1953, she passed on the tiara to Queen Elizabeth II, who then passed it on to her daughter-in-law Princess Diana.

Clearly, the Lover’s Knot tiara holds much sentimental value for Kate and she was honoured to adorn it at the royal banquet.

It is sweet to see the Duchess of Cambridge carrying on her late mother-in-law's legacy and making this small tribute in her honour.

Kendall Jenner has found herself in the midst of controversy again.

This time, it all started when she wore an afro for a photo shoot with Vogue magazine.

The 22-year-old model posed for the photos alongside model Imaan Hamman as part of a series in the November issue of the magazine and online to honour the 15th anniversary of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.

Kendall is seen wearing an afro next to Imaan, whose hair is straightened.

Followers quickly slammed the images, taken by fashion photographer Mikael Jansson, in the comments, with people to asking why she had been cast instead of a model whose hair was naturally styled like that.

Fifteen years and 150 finalists later, the @CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize has created global stars, local heroes, a must-watch New York Fashion Week, and, most important, a true sense of community among designers of all ages and backgrounds—all with differing aesthetic and commercial aspirations—who communicate, collaborate, and essentially care for one another through the fun and not-so-fun times. Laura Vassar Brock—one of the founders of 2016 #CVFF winner Brock Collection—says, “We spoke to a few friends who had gone through it, and they all said the same thing: that the Fashion Fund is a life-changing experience. And indeed it was!” Tap the link in our bio to learn more. Photographed by @mikaeljansson, styled by @tonnegood, Vogue, November 2018

One wrote, ''why did you use a white celebrity for this shoot instead of a person of colour who rocks this hair naturally'' while another said, ''African Americans were forced to straighten their f$$ing hair in America in order to get jobs.''

Another said, ''if you wore your hair natural it had to be cut short. Hell, the military only allowed dreads two years ago. So GTFOH with 'Blacks straighten their hair'. If we weren’t forced to, I can only hope we wouldn't it! It’s appropriation!"

Vogue has issued a response to this backlash, stating how they were supposed to evoke a nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of the early 20th century.

They said, ''the image is meant to be an update of the romantic Edwardian/Gibson Girl hair which suits the period feel of the Brock Collection, and also the big hair of the '60s and the early '70s, that puffed-out, teased-out look of those eras.''

They continued, ''we apologize if it came across differently than intended, and we certainly did not mean to offend anyone by it."

However, not everyone had a problem with the hairstyle.

One person wrote, ''I see a teased hair waiting for a beehive! Thatz all!"

Another said, ''all the anger about this is nonsense. Even if the intent was to be an afro its hella not! Look at our black kings and queens and google what an afro looks like! Angry for nothing."

What do you think – massive overreaction or fair enough?

Bedtime just got more fun.

It has been revealed that actor and all-round babe Orlando Bloom is the latest star to read a bedtime story for children's channel CBeebies.

The 41-year-old will be reading the bedtime tale of We Are Together, by Britta Teckentrup, on the channel.

He gushed about how excited he is to do this for the little ones (and us obvs).

He said, ''children light up when being taken on imaginary adventures through storytelling, and it helps their creativity grow.''

The story will celebrate love and friendship, something that the Pirates of the Caribbean star has said is so important for children.

"Through my travels as a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador I've met children in countries all over the world, and witnessed firsthand how storytelling between adults and young children helps cement their bond."

He's the latest in a long line of stars to read a bedtime story, including Dolly Parton, Tom Hardy and Chris Evans.

The episode, which will air on November 9th, is one of two stories that he has recorded for the show.

Ewan McGregor delighted fans earlier this year when he gave a reading of Everybody’s Welcome by Patricia Hegarty on Friday.

He said, ''it's such an honour and pleasure to join an incredible list of actors to read a Bedtime Story to children all over the UK.''

If the stream of A-List actors to read keeps going the way it's going, we'll be tuning into CBeebies full time, wbu?
