We can't really think of a breakfast that is as easy to make and highly nutritious as porridge.

Oats are a great source of fibre and energy that keep us fuller for longer, and mixing things up with the toppings prevents it from ever getting boring!

To make the base of a porridge for one person, place one scoop of oats and 3 scoops of liquid (water, milk, almond milk…) in the microwave for 2 minutes, stirring halfway.

Once you have mastered this base, you can play around with toppings!

1. Cinnamon + chia seeds + peanut butter

Add the cinnamon and chia seeds to the oats before you place your bowl in the microwave, and drizzle with peanut butter before serving.

2. Goji berries + coconut flakes + milled linseeds

Once your porridge is ready, add about a tablespoon of each topping.

3. Cinnamon + raisins + almond butter

Add the cinnamon and raisins to the oats before you cook them so the raisins get re-hydrated. Add a teaspoon of almond butter before serving.

4. Turmeric + banana + almond butter

Add a pinch of turmeric to the oats before you cook them, them add about 1/2 sliced banana and a teaspoon almond butter.

5. Cacao powder + strawberries + almond flakes

Add the cacao powder before cooking the oats, then add sliced strawberry and scatter with almond flakes.

So, which one will you be trying?

The Saturdays singer Una Healy has opened up about her devastating split from her husband of over six years, Ben Foden.

In an interview with HELLO, Healy says that she's trying to remain positive, despite her life being "turned upside down," and is focusing on being a mum to her two young children, six-year-old Aoife and three-year-old son Tadhg.

"My life has been turned upside down," she said. "I’m taking each day as it comes and just being there for my children."

Since news of their separation emerged, Healy hasn't spoken of the reasons for it (though it reportedly is due to Foden being unfaithful), but now says she's trying to make the best of what is a turbulent situation, channelling her energies into her family and songwriting.

She's also opted for a more visual change, and dyed her auburn hair blonde. Channelling SJP in a moving-on-from-Mr-Big kinda way or simply wanting a different look, the timing surely isn't incidental.

"I’ve had the same colour hair forever and just fancied a change," she said.

The 36-year-old says the support she's received from family, friends and fans has helped her push through and refocus – the couple were due to move their family to New York so that Foden could take up a new job with Rugby United when news of a 'scandal' was reported and he flew to New York solo while Una returned to her native Tipperary.

"They’ve been rallying around when times are tough," she continued. "I’ve been sent letters that are really supportive, too. "Life is tough, but you’ve got to keep a positive attitude. Time is a healer as well. Someone told me: 'Don’t look back; you’re not going that way.' These words inspire me, as does the famous quote of Winston Churchill: 'If you’re going through hell, keep going.'"

Her focus now, she says, is firmly on her family and children, who she says, she's incredibly lucky to have.

"I'm so lucky to have them," she says. "I never feel lonely or alone. They’re lovely company and have brought joy into my life. The most important job for me is to be the best parent I can and to provide and look after them. They’re my priority."

You can usually tell that the seasons are changing simply by glancing out the window or at the calendar on your phone, but another sure fire way to discover that Autumn is in full swing is the announcement of Lush's Halloween collections.

Arguably their most hotly anticipated of the year, the Halloween collection is one of the cutest and most innovative skincare and toiletry projects of the season.

The new line has just landed – and to be frank, it's looking spookier than ever.

Ectoplasm Shower Cream is top of the list, thanks to it's neon hue – very reminiscent of a recent Kim Kardashian wig.

The shower cream has refreshing, aromatic notes of grapefruit and litsea cubeba, an Asian evergreen shrub also known fondly as 'mountain pepper.'

The cream also comes packaging free, in the form of one of Lush's naked shower gels, however if you do opt for the plastic bottle, you can always return it to Lush to be recycled.

Recurring Halloween classics like the sparkly pumpkin bubble bar, cat-shaped Bewitched bubble bar and the Monster's Ball bath bomb are also making a return – and they're all available online now.

Ariana Grande has been through hell this month, after the news of her ex-boyfriend Mc Miller's untimely death broke.

The singer has been taking abreak from social media since his passing, but just took to her Instagram stories to broadcast a new member of  the Grande family.

It seems that Ariana and her fiance Pete Davidson have adopted a little pig as a pet.

The little bacon bundle is potentially the cutest thing on the internet right now.

However, Pete and Ariana are believed to be in New York at the moment in their new apartment – and pigs are on a list of exotic banned pet animals in the state.

With micropigs being a recently popular pet choice, they are not banned, but it is not clear whether Ari and Pete's piggle is a micropig or just a baby piglet.

Eva Mendes has opened up abut her family life with partner Ryan Gosling and their two daughters.

The stunning couple, who have been together for seven years, are parents to four-year-old Esmeralda and two-year-old Amada.

The 44-year-old may be tight-lipped when it comes to her children but she did reveal how she felt about going back to work.

''I’m just obsessed with their children and don’t want to leave them. They are still very small,'' she said

And super cute!

''Of course, my life is not all balanced. It is important to have support. I have my family, Ryan’s family, and their support has been invaluable,'' she continued.

Although she is not exactly new to motherhood, Eva is still finding her feet, especially with two little girls.

''I’m still new to the game. I feel like in a way it makes me care less because of priorities obviously but at the same time it makes me care more.'

She continued, ''Even if I’m not with my kids, I’m always representing them. It’s always on my mind. I’m somebody’s mother and I need to act accordingly. There’s an intense amount of pressure that I feel but it’s good pressure.''

They seem like such a down-to-earth couple – and they're both so gorge too…some people get all the luck, huh?

What did Jack have to say about all fo this?

The 22-year-old explained, ''we met in extraordinary circumstances and had an amazing time getting to know each other, both whilst in the villa and outside of it but our lives are currently taking us in different directions.''

“We will remain friends and I will support her in whatever she does. I wish her all the best. See you soon surfer girl!”

It all sounds very mutual and happy so who are we to judge?

Although, what's that saying – things come in threes?

Right, Jack and Dani, if you're reading this you better not be getting any ideas..

We all like to think that we are generous people. But when it really comes down to it, how many of us would be willing to put our money where our mouth is?

It's an interesting concept, are we really as generous as we think we are? How many of us are truly generous people?

Generosity can be measured in many ways: how much time we give to others, how much money we give, and how we can help people in other ways.

Overall, generosity is how much of yourself you give to others, be that time, money or anything else. You go out of your way to help others and care for their needs. Let's look into this further and see how generous we really are.

Source: Pexels.com

What Does Science Say?

Let's start by looking at the science behind generosity. Acts of generosity are, in fact, proven to make us happier. A study from the University of Zurich showed that those who gave to others triggered a happier brain response as opposed to those who gave to themselves.

They were given a sum of money and one group chose to keep the money for themselves, while the other chose to give their money to others.

The study found that areas of the brain which are responsible for generosity and happiness had high levels of intensity in the participants who gave money to others. This result remained the same with higher and lower amounts of money given.

In fact, these neural responses stayed high even when the money was just promised to others! Helping others with even the smallest amount makes us happier people.

Maintaining generous habits could also make us happier in the long run. Another study on altruism has shown that older people who have lived a generous life have better health. It reduces stress levels and can even be as effective as lowering blood pressure!

So being generous doesn't only make you happier, it makes you healthier too.

Source: Pexels.com

How Generous Are We, Though?

Now that we know that it's scientifically proven that generosity makes us happier and healthier, how many of us are actually doing it? Interestingly, evidence shows that people who are richer are less generous when it comes to money.

A study from Queen Mary University of London has shown that people with 'high status' contribute less to group efforts than those with 'lower status'.

In their study, participants were asked to play games for real cash prizes. Some were given a 'lower status' and others were given a 'higher status', and these would signify the wealth of the participants.

In the games played, participants would decide how much money they would keep for themselves and how much they would donate to the group amount to be shared amongst participants.

It found that overall, those with lower status would contribute a higher amount to the group amount than those with higher wealth status, despite the fact they had less to give.

Furthermore, those who earned a higher status label due to sheer luck while playing would go on to put less in the group amount and keep more money for themselves.

A survey conducted by Wink Bingo has shown that those who play games for money and win an amount of £50 would be unlikely to use their earnings charitably.

33% said they would save the cash, 19% said they'd use it to buy something for themselves, and a mere 2% said they would donate the money to charity.

However, the results also show that those who have more money are more likely to give their winnings away, contradicting the first study.

When asked about what they would do if they won £500, participants said that 34% would use it to pay off debts, 32% would treat their loved ones to a nice meal, 29% would buy gifts for their loved ones, and 6% would donate it to charity.

Are Women More Generous Than Men?

When it comes down to gender, who is more generous? Research conducted by the University of Zurich has found that the female brain responds more positively to selfless acts and the male brain has a stronger response to self-serving acts.

The study included sharing money amongst participants of 56 men and women. Neuroscientists found that areas of the brain responded to reward signals very differently for each gender.

Women were naturally predisposed to having stronger reward signals for kind acts of giving more money away than men.

However, scientists then went on to give medication to prevent dopamine from being released and continued the experiment.

It found that when on this drug, women were actually more selfish with their money and the men were more generous with giving their money away.

However, in the Wink Bingo survey, 4% of the men who won £50 would be more likely to donate some of the money to charity, whereas only 1 in 255 women would donate some of theirs.

But when the money was increased to £5000, 4% more women than men said they would donate some of their winnings to charity.

Age plays a factor too, as another study has found that 84% of baby boomers and women who are older would be more likely to donate their money to charity as opposed to men of a similar age.

Source: Pixabay.com

Overall, generosity is a very interesting and diverse thing. The amount of money we have plays a huge factor in how generous we are, and strangely enough, those with more money may be more likely to save their cash than give it away.

But it's not as clear-cut as that, gender and age have different attitudes towards generosity with money too. Perhaps we aren't all as generous as we like to think we are. But we can all make a conscious effort to be more giving.

After all, a small amount can make a big difference, and it does make us healthier after all!
