The story of Cystic Fibrosis campaigner Orla Tinsley is one that captured my heart, as well as the hearts of the entire nation. Orla shared brave updates from her hospital bed as she waited for a lung transplant in New York for a harrowing nine-months.

Watching Orla’s journey unfold from the screen of my iPhone was surreal. I constantly checked her Instagram for updates, hoping and wishing she would receive that life-saving double lung transplant.

She finally had her operation in December 2017 and will now share her story in an honest and raw documentary on RTÉ One tonight.

Orla Tinsley: Warrior will give a truthful portrayal of life on the transplant list. Orla will remind the world of just how important being an organ donor is by sharing her story.

You won’t understand how valuable the organ donor card that is stuffed in the back of your purse is until you hear stories like Orla’s.

The documentary will remind us of the potential lives you can save by simply carrying an organ donor card.

There was a point when Orla was put on life support at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. The inspiring activist wanted people to see every aspect of her journey. Despite her deteriorating health, Orla continued to let the cameras document her life, even though there was a chance she may not survive.

Speaking of the documentary, she shared: “My dream is to raise as much awareness about organ donation, transplant and CF as possible.”

“It was extremely important for me to continue this in the most challenging time of my life. I share my transplant story in the hope it will help others going through transplant or situations like it all over the world,” she explained.

Orla hopes her documentary will encourage people to become organ donors. “I owe all things to my donor who has given me a second chance at life.”

Orla Tinsley: Warrior will air on RTÉ One tonight at 21:35.

An Irish campaigner for cystic fibrosis has received a call for a life-saving double lung transplant after days of waiting on life support.

Orla Tinsely, an Irish journalist who lives in New York, had received six previous calls about potential transplants, however all six donors were found to be unsuitable.

The 30-year-old shred the news on Twitter this morning, writing: "This morning we got a call but I wanted to wait. Well, here it is, Lucky Number7.  I’m not afraid.. Please send love, prayers and best wishes. Double lung transplant is a go! Love love love."

Twitter users were quick to offer to wish her with a number well-known faces offering their support.

An active campaigner for CF and organ donation, Orla called on the public to carry donors cards.

“Please carry a donor card and let your family know your wishes. Then you can live life and give life. Up to 8 people can be saved. I am currently on life support fighting intensely,” she said.

Orla's tireless campaigning led to the opening of a dedicated cystic fibrosis unit at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin in 2012.

Triona Priestly’s wish was granted this afternoon after her idol Ed Sheeran, called the 15-year-old for a chat.

Triona from Dublin is battling the final stages of cystic fibrosis and revealed that it was her dream to talk to to her favourite singer, Ed Sheeran.

Triona’s family and friends rallied around to try and get in contact with Ed which resulted in #SongforTri trending on Twitter.

The campaign was definitely a success as the Give Me Love singer made Triona’s wish come true by contacting the teenager today.

Sheeran spoke about his interaction with the teenager: “I managed to get in contact with Triona. It’s so sad.”

Orla Tinsley, Triona’s friend spoke of how much Triona loves Ed Sheernan and how much a chat with the singer would mean to her.

“Her brother told me she is not afraid.  Colm says she interrupts his guitar playing regularly to show him Ed Sheeran things. She loves music and acoustic guitar. ‘It does something to my heart.’”

We’re delighted to hear Triona’s wish came true.
