When it comes to hangovers, we have the memory of a goldfish.

Mornings spent begging for a bucket are quickly erased once the next big night rolls around.

Afternoons spent slumped in front of Netflix pale into insignificance once talk turns to the newest cocktail.

And then the hangover hits again, and we're stunned that we failed to learn our lesson… again.

With more parties than you can shake a stick at on the horizon, here are five things that will DEFINITELY help you power on through.

1. Take a shower.

When your mouth tastes like a carpet and you can barely lift your head off the pillow, the idea of crawling into the bathroom is far from appealing, but it helps so much we could weep.

No one's asking you to shave, exfoliate or apply a hair mask, but simply wash off last night's makeup and throw some shampoo into that bird's nest.

Life lesson: No one has ever felt worse after washing themselves.

2. Get dressed

It can be tempting to stay in your pyjamas (that's if you got into them in the first place) but fresh, clean, and most importantly, comfy clothes will do wonders for your fragile state of mind.

Pull on a hoody, slip into your softest sweat pants (the ones with the soup stain that you can't get out) and haul out your fluffiest socks.

Life lesson: Your biggest hoody will be there for you long after everyone else has left.

3. Avoid social media

If you want to feel worse about yourself then by all means scroll through a newsfeed which documents other people's early morning hikes, festive brunches and smug work-out sessions while you huddle on the couch.

Stick your phone in another room for at least a few hours until you're ready to face the hell that is other people.

Life lesson: Smug Facebook posts never have, and never will, improve a hangover.

4. Get some fresh air

Whether it means walking to the end of your back garden a few times or hovering on your balcony for twenty minutes, a good blast of fresh air will genuinely make you feel better.

This does not mean you should embark on a hike or even attempt anything as challenging as a brisk walk, but it does mean you must leave your blanket fort for at least twenty minutes.

Life lesson: Your blanket fort will always be there when you get back.

5. Order your favourite takeaway

We'll be honest – the thought of our favourite dinner gets us through even the most hideous of days, so a takeaway is always a good idea when you're too fragile to operate a toaster.

Today is not the day for calorie counting, food guilt or embarrassment; you order what you want, when you want and enjoy every damn morsel.

Life Lesson: Eat pizza.

Around 2,500 people queued for Christmas food parcels at the Capuchin Centre in Dublin in freezing temperatures this morning.

The queue, which began before 8am, stretched down the street and around the corner and included elderly people and children.

The shocking number of people on the breadline was no surprise to Brother Kevin Crowley, who runs the centre.

“Last year we gave out about 2,500 parcels but this year I think it will probably go over 3,000,” he told the Irish Times.

“It is shocking, but I am not surprised. What is really appalling to see is the number of children coming here, mothers with children."

Each person in the queue will receive two blue plastic bags, one of perishable foods like bread and milk, and one of imperishable items like tinned beans, tea and sugar.

Yesterday President Michael D Higgins visited the Capuchin Day Centre to commend the volunteers packing the parcels for their hard work.

Ah, Niall… we've all been there.

We used to want to defy our mothers when they told us to wrap up or not sit on the ground, because guess what? We'd catch a cold. We didn't listen though, and it seems like Niall Horan didn't listen to his mammy either.

The singer shared on Twitter yesterday that he has a chest infection, writing: "Get a chest infection Christmas week …. cool cool cool ……. not ideal."

And he then followed it up with: "Should have listened to my mother years ago when she said 'don't go out with wet hair or you'll get pneumonia' (sic)."

Yep, like most of us Niall, you should have listened to your mammy. But, while Niall was suffering with is cold yesterday, he also posted a rather heartwarning quote about Ireland:

G'wan Nialler.

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus are having a family orientated Christmas this year, with Liam heading to the Cyrus residence for some quality time together.

The couple were joined by Miley's mam and dad, Billy Ray and Tish, as well as her siblings Trace, Noah, Brandi and Braison. And of course, a few furry friends were added to the mix.

Jesy Nelson has been keeping her love life under wraps after a well publicised split from fiancé Jake Roche in November.

However, the star has now been linked to a brand new beau, Bradley Churchill, by eagle eyed Twitter fans.

The pair were allegedly set up by Jesy's bandmate and bestie Perrie Edwards who is currently dating footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a close friend of Bradley's.

The two couples are currently in Paris, and were spotted sight seeing at the Louvre.

The group was spotted by fans who took some selfies with the Little Mix singers, and Jesy's new squeeze Bradley uploaded a snap to Instagram.

Who knows, maybe later they will put a love lock on the Pont des Arts bridge!

Lucy Hale is facing a potential legal battle after a gossip site posted two topless photos of the star on their webpage.

The site, called Celeb Jihad, is renowned for posting nude, stolen images of female celebrities.

The site describes itself as covering "explosive celebrity gossip from Islamic extremists."

The page uploaded two screen shots of topless photos, which the Pretty Little Liars star alleges were stolen from her phone by a hacker.

This would mean that the photos were obtained illegally and legal action could be taken against anyone who publishes them.

The website is known for "exposing" celebrities and is also considered to be a porn site.

Lucy's legal team have sent a letter to the site requesting the removal of the images.

This comes after Emma Watson's lawyers filed a successful cease and desist case against the site, after images of her in a sheer top which exposed her nipples were uploaded to the page.

The images have since been removed. Here's to hoping Lucy's lawyers get the same result.

We'd barely gotten used to the idea that they were dating when recent reports claimed Vogue Williams and Laurence Fox were no more, but it looks like Laurence has nothing but good wishes for the Irish star.

Rumours that the pair were an item began swirling in recent months when the Irish TV presenter was spotted holding hands with the British actor, with numerous publications claiming Laurence had 'genuinely fallen for' Vogue.

Commenting on the burgeoning romance at the time, a source close to the pair said: "It’s very early days but both Laurence and Vogue consider themselves an item. They’re enjoying spending time together and have had some great nights out.”

Unfortunately, it looks like the good times recently came to an end for the pair, but Laurence is determined to keep thing amicable and recently referred to Vogue as his 'mate'.

"We're just really great mates. We have always just been good mates before meeting on Bear Grylls: Mission Survive and we continue to be really great mates," he told MailOnline.

38-year-old Laurence, who this year divorced Billie Piper after nine years of marriage, added: "There's nothing else really to say, but we're just great friends."

Turning his attention to the festive period, Laurence revealed that he doesn't have any big plans, saying: "I've got a feeling it might be quite a quiet one for me."

"I've never really been a huge New Year's Eve fan so it isn't going to be the kind of celebration that it's been in the past."

Unless your family is the type to hightail it off to sunnier climes a few days before December 25, chances are you'll be having the same Christmas as your neighbours… and their neighbours… and their neighbours.

The same dinner will be eaten, the same conversations will play out, and the same arguments will be revisited year in and year out, and while we wouldn't have it any other way, we often find ourselves wondering if this really is the case with all families.

Thankfully for us, comedy act Foil Arms and Hog have assured the public that this is, indeed, the sitch nationwide, and it's time to accept it… and embrace it.

So pull up a seat, ladies, and watch 'your family' in all their glory.

While we might (sadly) live in the muggle world, that doesn't stop us wondering what Hogwarts house we would have been sorted into, had we been granted the gift of a Hogwarts letter on our 11th birthday.

Seeing as we don't have access to Dumbledore's Sorting Hat, we'll have to opt for another method of house allocation, and what better way than a nice relaxing bath.

The Sorting Hat bath bomb is officially in existence, and we couldn't be more excited.

The bath bomb is the brain child of Harry Potter fan Rebecca Lynn, a very crafty Instagrammer who spends her spare time making amazing bath creations.

A video posted by Brittany (@brittany_bibliophile) on

The Sorting Hat bath bomb is an enchanting concoction of shea butter and grapeseed oil, which will not only make your skin silky smooth but will also give you a hint as to what Hogwarts house you are destined for.

The bath bombs are a nondescript white, but once you drop them into your bubbling bath they turn your bath water a vibrant shade, revealing your house colours.

The shades are true to the novels, with red for Gryffindor, blue for Ravenclaw, yellow for Hufflepuff and green for Slytherin.

The perfect gift for the Harry Potter fanatic in your life.

In a move which has infuriated Twitter users this week, Harry Styles decided to showcase his brand-new sheepskin coat, and ultimately incurred the wrath of countless Directioners.

After spotting the singer-turned-actor rocking the Yves Saint Laurent number, animal right supporters wasted no time calling Harry out on his fashion faux pas.

Taking to social media to highlight the issue, one member of the public wrote: "You should watch a documentary or read an article about how fur is taken away from animals. Then I don't think you would buy it."

According to FarFetch website, the pricey coat is made of 100% sheep skin / shearling, and yet despite this, some die-hard Directioners refused to to believe Harry would wear it of his own accord.

"I don't believe Harry would actually wear fur. It just doesn't seem like something he would do," insisted one Twitter user while another disbelieving fan verified the details before expressing her shock online.

 Your move, Harry.

Janice Dickinson is a fashion industry veteran, having began her career back in the 70s and racking up 37 Vogue covers during her career.

The supermodel was one of the most famous faces in fashion during the 80s, the golden age of supermodels.

Known for her fiery personality, Janice has a rather controversial opinion about today's models, particularly Kendall Jenner.

A photo posted by @pop_cultured_ on

"We had to work on our own merit. They’re not models! They’re reality TV stars!'' said the industry veteran.

"I don’t think she’s a supermodel, I don’t. … Give me a break,"

"You think that’s supermodel? That is not a supermodel. She can’t beat me. She can’t. Apples and oranges" Janice told AfterBuzzTV's The Tomorrow Show.

It wasn't just Kendall who was in the firing line, as Janice didn't hold back when it came to discussing big sister Kim.

"Kim Kardashian made the cover of Vogue which made me want to vomit. It was crazy," she said.

"You know modelling is extremely hard work. You have to have perfect proportions. The Kardashians do not have couture proportion," she finished.

Yikes! It looks like Janice seriously dissaproves of reality TV stars-turned-models.

However, with Kendall appearing on the list of the world's highest paid models, and raking in about €4,000,000 per year in modelling contracts, we doubt she will pay much heed.
