Yearly Archives: 2016

She's the former Miss Ireland who's already courted attention from the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Kris Jenner (not to mention Instagram playboy Dan Bilzerian).

And now 24-year-old Holly Carpenter has caught the eye of another mega-star… and this time it's none other than Oscar winner Jamie Foxx.

Despite being close to a year old, once again it's her hilarious "What she's really saying on SnapChat," blog post that has everyone talking.

Mr Foxx, who has some 9.4million likes from fans on his official Facebook page, this morning shared an article which details Holly's now famous observations – but he's certainly not the first celebrity to laud the Dublin model's sense of humour.

Ashton Kutcher did the same last October, while Kris Jenner got in on the act in January.

Furthermore, back in the autumn of 2014 she and social media lothario Dan Bilzerian shared some flirty private messages on Twitter in the aftermath of her split from rugby star Cian Healy.

"I was delighted to see Jamie share the post," Holly told SHEmazing! this evening.

"It's nearly a year old now and has also been shared by Kris Jenner, Ashton Kutcher, MTV and E! News.

"It's a bit mental but it's great to see they all appreciate the Irish sense of humour of slagging ourselves."

Ms Carpenter is currently dating Coronas frontman Danny O'Reilly and the duo recently enjoyed a romantic mini-break to Kerry.

Our summer calendar is already filling up fast with plans for festivals, weddings and barbecues (yes, we're being highly optimistic about the weather), but one weekend we're keeping free is June 16 – 19.

Taste Of Dublin returns to the Iveagh Gardens for four days this summer, and it looks set to be quite the event.

Like last year, the gates will be open until 10.30pm on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so you can really soak up the last of the sun's rays while trying food from some of the capital's best restaurants. Plus, there are heaps of new hands-on demos and masterclasses on offer this year, like O'Briens' Wines tasting sessions.

This year's festival theme is 'Homecoming,' so expect lots of seriously tasty Irish food.

There'll be live cooking demos…
Nevin Maguire, Kevin Dundon, Richard Corrigan and Kevin Thornton will all be cooking up a storm, as well as Anna Haugh, a former head chef for Gordon Ramsay; plus Cathal Armstrong who has cooked for Barack Obama among other big names.

…And you can get tips from the experts for FREE
If you're not content with sitting back and watching the masters at work, book yourself in to one of the free Electrolux Chefs Secrets masterclasses – interactive cookery demos where you'll get the chance to try your own hand at making each dish.

Plus, you can try a wine masterclass
For the 11th year running, O'Briens Wines will partner with the Taste Of Dublin crew – and this year they'll be offering wine tasting courses as well as selling drinks as usual.

Or just kick back with some bubbly
While normal ticket prices start at €15, you can nab a VIP ticket from €35, entitling you to fast track entry, access to the Champagne Taittinger VIP Suite, plus a complimentary glass of Champagne Taittinger or complimentary Taste Brew beer.

Here's all the ticket info
Advance tickets are currently on sale for €15 – €25 depending on the day and time slot, while VIP tickets run from €35 – €54. Tickets will also be available on the door each day. Child tickets are €12.50,  or €14 on the door, though under tens go free. You can book online here.

Penneys has gone global over the last year with stores opening up in the US, Spain and most recently France. With level upon level of immaculately arranged clothes and accessories, beauty salons, phone charging areas and entire walls of cosmetics, these are no ordinary Penneys stores either.

After every new megastore opening we've lusted over the pictures on Twitter and Snapchat, all the while wondering when our humble Irish stores would get the same uber-glam treatment.

Well, it seems we didn't have long to wait, as one Penneys branch in the heart of Dublin has just re-launched after a major image overhaul. The re-design was done in stages over the last six months to avoid having to close the store entirely, so if you've been battling with hoarding and closed-off escalators whilst shopping there recently, that's why.

So, does the O'Connell St branch compare with the amazingness that is Primark Madrid or Boston? Let's take a look…

The shoe area alone looks incredible…

And we've got our very own Penneys-tastic map of Dublin…

Plus this EPIC make-up wall…

Oh, and a bikini wall too…

Plus a tech accessories wall for good measure…

And in true Penneys style there's still heaps of bargains…

Yup, we're sold.

Post boxes in Dublin are causing a stir: they've been swapped from their usual emerald green to a shade of shocking red.

But before you assume that the British are taking over – it's now been confirmed that the colour change is to mark the forthcoming 1916 Rising centenary.

An Post made the changes under the cover of darkness last night, with Dublin commuters being greeted by the transformation this morning.

It's all part of the plan to bring us all "closer to the streets of 1916 Dublin".

"At various locations across Dublin, painted red post boxes become beacons for the events they witnessed a hundred years ago," An Post has revealed.

Red post boxes can currently be seen on Grafton Street, at the Royal College Of Surgeons, Mount Street, Dun Laoghaire, and Liberty Hall.

Four more will emerge next weekend, with the final one cropping up at the end of April.

All of them represent a fascinating "lesser known" story of the Rising – like the one of the 12-year-old boy shot stealing an orange on Grafton Street – the details of which are available on 1916.anpost.ie

Twitter was predictably bemused in response, with many users praising the decision. Others, however, were less impressed, likening the move to vandalism.

There are going to be some very disappointed tourists hanging around Temple Bar this Friday, longing for a pint of Guinness only to be told they've come to the wrong place.

As us Irish folks know all too well at this stage, Good Friday is the only day aside from Christmas Day when pubs must close and alcohol is unavailable to buy.

Of course, as with any rule, there are a few ways to bend it – but only a few, mind you. If you don't fancy panic-buying at your local off-licence this Thursday and can't bear to finish out the week without so much as a (responsible) sip of wine, try one of these options…

Have a flutter on the dogs

Harold's Cross Greyhound Stadium is once again offering full bar facilities for anyone booked in for a restaurant package. So head along for a night of betting and a few pints. Generally there's a minimum group size of four, and you'll need to get your reservation in fast by phone or online.

**IT'S A GREAT FRIDAY EVERY FRIDAY**If your looking for something fun and Irish to do on a Friday Night in Dublin,…

Hop on the boat… kinda
If you've spotted the La Peniche restaurant-boat docked on the Grand Canal, this Friday would be a good time to check it out. La Peniche offer a three-course dinner cruise for €42pp at 6pm or 9pm including a glass of Prosecco, with a bar serving wine, beer, Guinness and more once the boat is moving. A three-course lunch option is also available for €35 if you want to catch some springtime rays as you eat (and drink).

Catch the train
It's legal to purchase alcohol on a train or in any train station bar, provided you can show a valid Intercity ticket. So take a road trip somewhere while enjoying a drink… or stay in Dublin and head to Madigans in Connolly Station.

She already has five children from three different fathers, but Katie Price doesn't want to stop having babies.

She even admitted today that she wants to make a reusable pregnancy test so she doesn't have to fork out cash whenever her period is late.

The 37-year-old joked about the imaginary equipment while appearing on Loose Women today.

"What I should invent is a pregnancy test that you can keep reusing, instead of paying ten pounds for a new one. I might stop having all them babies then."

However, despite her best efforts to remain coy about her joke, fellow host Andrea McLean couldn't help but say, "it's not the pregnancy test that you need… It's a condom, love."

Katie was clearly blushing but saved herself by admitting she wants more children.

"I'm going to keep going until the doctors say I can't have any more. I need that newborn again. I absolutely hate being pregnant. But I still want more," she said recently.

Katie already has Harvey, 13 who she had with Dwight Yorke, Junior, 10 and Princess, seven, with ex-hubby Peter Andre and Jett, two, and Bunny, 19-months-old, who she has with her current partner Kieran Hayler.

This family had a great idea of setting up a group chat on Whatsapp so new mother, Teresa could keep her loved ones informed of the birth of her child… Except it didn't exactly go to plan.

Various numbers were added into the group text and when her baby was born, she shared a photo with everyone.

But before she could go any further, a stranger wrote back to the message: "Congrats lol but I think someone got the wrong number."

Busy with the joy of being a new mum, Teresa didn't exactly notice the text at first and continued to text the weight of her newborn.

Before anyone could answer, the random texter said that he and "the boys" want to come and take a picture with the baby.

Other members of the group then copped on to what went wrong, but the stranger had the best response.

They asked for the room number of the hospital and actually turned up with presents for Teresa and her baby.

The story is going viral on Reddit and we can see why. This totally made our Monday a lot better.

Kris Jenner usually takes some style inspiration from her daughters – but we're thinking this time she took some inspiration from her grand daughter, North.

The LA Fashion Awards were hosted last night and the momager turned up with her beau Corey, dressed in a very weird tutu and polo neck jumper.

Now, those items of clothing will look weird on anyone, but then she sported the get-up with black heels decorated with bows and stars.

And fishnet tights… What??

On the other hand, her daughter Kim was dressed to kill; showing off her post-baby bod in a sequin dress and red strap shoes.

We know a tutu looks super cute on some people (ahem, North), but maybe leave it to the young ones, Kris.

*Competition closed – Congrats to Sarah Leddy*

Hurrah! The weather is finally getting a bit warmer and we're gradually transitioning into a spring wardrobe.

So say goodbye to dark and dreary colours and say hello to big, bright hues and pastels – for your nails, that is.

Many of us let our poor nails go over winter with the weather making them brittle and sore. But, with Sally Hansen's new Complete Salon Manicure nail polishes your nails will look better and stronger than ever.

You need to be in it to win it though, so head over to our Facebook or Instagram page to enter. Good luck!

Tanned, toned and smiling – yup, we reckon Britney Spears' image overhaul is just about complete.

The singer has been working hard on her figure over the last couple of years, and while her steady weight loss and increased muscle tone has been clearly visible for a while now, it's her latest Instagram snaps that really hadve us taking notice.

Just weeks after sharing two "mini music videos" showing her dancing in a black two-piece, the mum of two posted some altogether more relaxed photos yesterday – and there was no hiding those abs.

One such photo shows Brit standing on a golf course with her "little munchkins" – her niece Lexie and nine-year-old son Jayden. Wearing a pink crop top and bright blue shorts, the singer looks tanned, athletic and – most importantly – happy.

So what's Britney's workout secret? Well, there's no quick fix it seems. According to the woman herself, it's all about hard work.

The singer combines short, high-intensity workouts with cardio classes and – of course – high-octane dance rehearsals when she's working.

"I like my workouts to be effective in a short amount of time. I start with 20 minutes of intense cardio – usually running -move on to light free weights, body-weight exercises such as pushups, squats, and sit-ups, then finish it off with a stretch," the singer told Women's Health last year.

Often the mum combines two workouts in one day – going for forty laps in the pool after a Totally Drenched class at her local gym, Drenched Fitness.

"I love this class. It's high-energy and combines treadmill work with circuit training. Being in a group setting pushes me to work harder," she says.

Ever come home from work after a long day and just want a hug? Or maybe you're having a lazy weekend and just want to cuddle on the sofa and watch TV? Either way, cuddles are the best and we want them all the time.

Unfortunately, we can't have them all the time because that would mean we'd need our mother/BFF/lover by our side at all times. *Sob*

So, when we came across this Free Hug Sofa, we completely lost our minds.

The squashy chair can offer you all of the warmth and cosiness that cuddles give – without a person moaning that you're holding on too tight.

It also has extendable arms for all the free hugs you can take.

The Free Hug Sofa was designed by South Korean designer Eun Kyoung Lee, but unfortunately (brace yourselves) it's not available to buy.

Eun created it for the A'Design Awards but we're optimistic it might go into production… Hopefully.

Facebook always seems to hide little things for us, only for one person to figure it out and then the whole Internet turns crazy for it.

And the latest secret game is no different. But, if you're worrying about lengthy cheat codes or hidden entries, fear not because this basketball game is pretty easy to get into.

Once Facebook has ensured you've downloaded their latest version of Messenger, all you need to do is send a basketball emoji to a friend.

Yep, it's that easy – but be warned, it can become addictive.

Soon we'll all be on Messenger just to play games and not to…erm, talk to our friends.

Social media strikes again.
