Facebook is soon going to add an option for you to encrypt your messages – i.e. make them completely private.

The new 'secret conversations' feature means that nobody else but the sender and the receiver will be able to read the texts as they will be locked by a password.

The user will also be able to set a timer so they can control how long the messages remain private for.

Facebook said: "It's also important to note that in secret conversations we don't currently support rich content like GIFs and videos, making payments, or other popular Messenger features."

So essentially, just basic texts and emojis will be private.

The new feature is currently being tested and Facebook is looking to roll it out to all users by the end of summer.

Facebook can be a minefield at times, and with so many changes happening on social media lately, we honestly don't know if we're missing out on something or not.

Well, it turns out we are. Our messages. Not all of our messages, but some of them at least.

As it turns out, there's another secret inbox folder on Messenger, and you could be missing out on loads of texts.

It kinda works like a spam folder on email, but if you use your Facebook for business, you might have many unnoticed messages:

When in the Messenger app, head into Settings:

Then, select People and then Message Requests:

Now, click See filtered requests:

And there's your messages:

Simple (but Facebook probably should have told us about it)!

Facebook always seems to hide little things for us, only for one person to figure it out and then the whole Internet turns crazy for it.

And the latest secret game is no different. But, if you're worrying about lengthy cheat codes or hidden entries, fear not because this basketball game is pretty easy to get into.

Once Facebook has ensured you've downloaded their latest version of Messenger, all you need to do is send a basketball emoji to a friend.

Yep, it's that easy – but be warned, it can become addictive.

Soon we'll all be on Messenger just to play games and not to…erm, talk to our friends.

Social media strikes again.
