Meet Feminista Jones.

The author, activist and social-worker can often be found using her social media platform to discuss women’s issues, and her latest Tweet has prompted some hilarious responses.

Last Friday, she jokingly challenged her followers "to piss off a man today. Tell him you agree with his compliment of you."

Speaking to BuzzFeed News, Feminista revealed that she felt compelled to talk about the issue in a "tongue-in-cheek" fashion after hearing other women’s stories and experiencing the dynamic in her own life.

"It's not a new idea, but in my own experience when [a man] complimented me and I say, 'I agree,' they get upset."

She added, "It’s the idea that they bestow the compliment on you, and you’re not supposed to be aware of it."

"Generally we’re taught that we’re not supposed to compliment ourselves," she explained.

"When a women does that, she needs to be humble."

After the tweet was posted, Feminista was almost immediately inundated with replies from woman looking to share their own experiences.

However, Jones did acknowledge that this does not apply to all men.

"This is my blanket commentary: Just because you don’t do it or you don’t see it being done, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen" she said.

"When men go, 'Not all men,' they make it about 'I’ve never seen it, I've never done it…so it can’t be true.'”

"I’m saying to listen to what women are saying — try to understand what’s going of."

Getting cash back from your bank for shopping has to be one of the sweetest deals around, and that's exactly what AIB are doing with their AIB Everyday Rewards scheme.

To mark the introduction of the epic rewards programme for its customers, AIB revealed the average Irish adult owns four loyalty or rewards cards, proving that Irish folk want the best deal wherever they can get it.

Not that we're a nation of stinges, after all, who wouldn't want to get a little extra bang for their buck.

Close to 30 per cent of those sampled in the study owned more than five individual loyalty or rewards cards.

The lads are a little less wise to the loyalty card jive, with men being more likely to have one to four cards while most women have more than five.

One way to free up some space in your wallet and avoid carrying around all those rewards cards for different places is to sign up for the AIB Everyday Rewards scheme.

In partnership with Visa, it uses transactional data to serve customers attractive, relevant and simple cashback offers with brands such as Lidl, Topaz, Boots, H&M, Easons, Butlers, Thorntons, GAA and Elverys Sport.

This eliminates the hassle of printing vouchers, entering codes or carrying multiple reward cards.

Launch partners for AIB Everyday Rewards include Lidl, Topaz, Boots, H&M, Easons, Butlers Chocolate Café, Elverys Sports, Parking Tag, Apache Pizza and Enterprise Rent a Car, with new offers made available every week from a wide range of retailers, all matched to customer’s own shopping preferences.

It's extremely tough to get your foot on the property ladder at the moment, and rent prices in Ireland have skyrocketed in recent years.

With Irish rent prices at an all time high of €1131.00, more people than ever are choosing to remain in the familial home to save funds for the future.

RTÉ is looking for people to take part in a new series, which explores the not-so-unusual phenomenon of adults living at home with their parents.

The series hopes to explore the phenomenon of the ‘Boomerang Generation,’ which refers to young adults who leave home for work or college, only to be forced back into the nest.

This Crowded House aims to meet adults living in the family home and helping them put a plan in place to move out and live independently.

Whether they would like to rent their own place, house-share, or are seeking to buy, the participants will get expert help to get them on the right track.

The series will also explore how the parents feel about having their not so little ones back in the family home.

With nearly 1 in 4 Irish adults between 25 and 34 still living at home, the series is set to expose the social realities of living at home with parental units constantly present.

Anyone who wishes to apply can find the application form here.

Have you ever looked at the Instagrams of those girls who get paid to travel and snap gorgeous photos of their locations and been so jealous you could burst?

Well, Canon is looking for someone to fill a very unique position as it begins its search for the ultimate storyteller.

One lucky person will spend a year chasing summer across the globe in order to identify 365 inspiring stories, to help rectify the fact that the art of storytelling is getting lost in a social media feed cluttered with drunken night out snaps, selfies and hot dogs or legs holiday snaps.

A post shared by LAUREN BULLEN (@gypsea_lust) on

Canon has opened applications for one person to ‘Live For The Story.’ Applications for this role will be taken via Instagram and judged by actress, producer, musician and storyteller, Zoë Kravitz (no big deal).

The successful candidate will follow the sun across the globe, visiting destinations from Lisbon to Melbourne to Brazil, documenting their locations and experiences as they go.

'Those who think they have what it takes to inspire people to find their own stories can apply by sharing their most memorable summer story on Instagram with the story behind it (no more than 50 words), tagging @CanonUK and #LiveForTheStory.'

A post shared by Brooke Saward (@worldwanderlust) on

'Submissions will be judged on a number of elements including storytelling ability, visual appeal, originality and inspirational qualities.'

'The successful candidate will be required to travel the world chasing summer in order to identify 365 inspiring stories throughout the course of the job.'

'The role is all expenses paid and, of course, offers a holiday allowance of 365 days per annum.'

This literally sounds like the ultimate dream job.

Zoë Kravitz said: “Summer is a time of spontaneity and living in the moment.'

'We want to encourage people to live every second to the fullest, because it’s then that the best stories can happen.'

We volunteer as tribute!

Abortion pills bought online can provide a ‘safe and effective’ outcome for women who wish to have a non-surgical termination, according to a new study published in the British Medical Journal.

The study was carried out by a team at the University of Texas who, along with online group Women on Web, analysed data from over 1,000 women in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland who had sought to terminate unwanted pregnancies through the use of abortion pills.

After seeking follow-up information from over 1,000 women in Ireland, researchers determined that 95 per cent of those who took these abortion pills had the desired result.

Each of these women had previously purchased abortion pills online through WoW, and reported back on their experiences.

78 per cent were under seven weeks pregnant, while the remaining 22 per cent were seven to nine weeks pregnant.

According to the study, 'self-sourced medical abortion provides a vital alternative to dangerous methods such as using sharp objects or noxious substance.'

93 women out of the 1,000 surveyed experienced symptoms which required them to seek medical attention, and 87 of these women actually did seek medical attention after taking the pills.

'No deaths…were reported by family, friends, the authorities of the media,' the study authors wrote in the British Medical Journal report.

The purchase and import of abortion pills is currently illegal in the Republic of Ireland, as well as in Northern Ireland.

However, recent developments have been made thanks to the Citizens' Assembly and the work of the Repeal Project, with calls for the 8th Amendment which prohibit abortion to be changed or abolished.

'Often media reports in Ireland imply early medical abortion with pills is unsafe – this study shows that that simply isn’t the case,' said Abortion Rights Campaign spokesperson Linda Kavanagh in a statement.

'In countries where medical abortion is legal, women are largely unsupervised while taking the pill.'

'In the UK for example women ingest the first pill at an abortion clinic, but then go home to have their abortion.'

'Our governments continue to shirk their responsibility to women despite having a clear mandate to introduce proper abortion access North and South, following the results of the Citizens’ Assembly and various reports by human rights watchdogs,' she continued.

'Our politicians are happy to outsource their responsibility to other countries and organisations that provide the abortion pill illegally.'

'Our current laws are irresponsible, cowardly and lazy. If the physical and mental health of women on this island is being put at risk, it is the fault of our legislators – and not these pills which have been used safely, in both supervised and unsupervised contexts for almost 30 years,' she concluded

Everyone is entitled to freely practice their religion, or lack thereof, but there often comes the question as to who is right.

While this may be a question which never cohesively gets agreed upon, studies on the differences between atheists and religious folk have been conducted to answer other questions, and there is one answer which stands out among 63 studies.

According to multiple experiments, atheists are more intelligent than religious people.

A meta-analysis, which is a statistical study that looks at the results of multiple other studies and analyses them to get a conclusive result, was done using the results of different 63 studies.

This analysis showed that people who have a devotion to religion have a lower association to intelligence.

The meta-analysis defined intelligence as 'the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly and learn from experience.'

Miron Zuckerman, Jordan Silberman and Judith A. Hall conducted the study, which proved that the association between the two concepts was strongest among university students and weakest in kids and teens.

The study speculates that the reason for the association with intelligence and religion in university is because atheism might be considered to be a form of nonconformity in societies where the majority is religious, with more intelligent people being drawn to free thinking.

There was also a stronger association for religious beliefs than religious behaviour, so people who follow and appreciate religious teachings but don't practice were seen by the meta-analysis to be more intelligent.

Ageing was another interesting aspect of the study, as with age comes a boding sense of ones own mortality, which can lead to a deepening of religious beliefs.

The study showed that in the highest intelligence bracket, those in the age group of 75+ still did not show a significant increase in religiosity.

The results of the study have caused a heated debate on Twitter, with those who hold deep religious beliefs finding the conclusion to be insulting.

'Nobody becomes smarter by becoming atheists. A brain does not grow just for abandoning religion,' said one.

However, others feel that the results of the study are accurate.

Public service announcement: buying smashed avocado on toast is the one thing standing in your way of owning your own property one day.

Sounds unbelievable, right? Well that's probably because that statement is from an interview with a slightly misguided millionaire who thinks brunch is the root of all financial evil.

Australian millionaire Tim Gurner was on 60 Minutes in Australia , and had some choice comments about the millennial housing crisis.

The real estate mogul was asked if he felt that millennials may never get on the property ladder, to which her replied:

'Absolutely, when you’re spending $40 a day on smashed avocados and coffees and not working. Of course.”

'When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn't buying smashed avocado for $19 and four coffees at $4 each.'

'We’re at a point now where the expectations of younger people are very, very high,' he continued.

Twitter has been responding to Tim's oddly specific millennial complaint.

'Wonder how much smashed avo on toast 34k from a relative would buy…' said one.

It is undeniably tough to get on the property ladder these days, and there are many factors that contribute to this.

Tim may have had a point that saving small increments eventually adds up to a nice, mortgage-friendly nest egg, but don't go blaming the culinary delight that is smashed avo on toast.

May 4 saw Ireland's biggest, brightest and best influencers take to the Mansion House in Dublin for the inaugural SHEmazing! Awards.

James Butler was up against fierce competition in the Man of the Year category, but walked away with the title on the night.

'I was shocked when I got the nomination because it's unusual not to be nominated for something social influencer related, obviously it's unusual to be nominated for anything, so it was cool to be nominated for something other than that, and I was in great company so I did not think I would win,' he said.

A post shared by James Butler (@james_patrice) on

'I was thrilled (to be nominated), and then to win on the night was just fab, I think it took me a while to get up off the seat,' he exclaimed, recalling the moment he was named Man of the Year at the SHEmazing Awards ceremony.

James has enjoyed a hugely successful career in the areas of Irish TV and social media influencing, taking up a unique space in the industry thanks to his hilarious, creative and entertaining content.

Not just one for Snapchat, James kicked off his social media career by starting a style Instagram, posting outfits and style inspiration, before he decided to start a blog on the subject.

His blog was a hit success after much hard work, and led to opportunities with brands and TV shows like Ireland AM's blogger style-off segment and Xposé fashion reports.

A post shared by James Butler (@james_patrice) on

As his following built up, he started doing more TV bits for RTE, including videos for First Dates and covering the Rose of Tralee for their Facebook Live.

'It hasn't been an overnight thing, it was lots of little different things that just came together, and thankfully worked in my favour so far,' he said.

Discussing his influencer success, he said: 'Not everyone will like everything, so the key is to keep ticking away as you are but keep an eye on what your followers like.'

A post shared by James Butler (@james_patrice) on

'A bit of a cliche, but take each day as it comes as they say, and don't ret on your laurels and become too complacent.'

The influencer industry has a reputation for being highly competitive, thanks to the thousands of influencers and micro-influencers who all share a space in a now saturated online field.

However, James hasn't found that the social media movers and shakers he has encountered entertain that kind of attitude.

A post shared by James Butler (@james_patrice) on

'I would say it's quite supportive and I say that because I think the reason that influencers might be where they are is because they're not like other people.'

'Those that try and copy wouldn't do as well because why would people want to work with someone that there already is a version of?'

'There isn't really the room for any bitchiness because it doesn't really get you anywhere. Just be sound, that's what I say.'

A post shared by James Butler (@james_patrice) on

The avid Snapchatter cites the career opportunities awarded to him with help from his following as one of the best perks of the job.

'The best part is the opportunity that it leads to so it's led to a good bit of TV work for me, brand work, fashion work that I might not have gotten if I didn't have a following that I have, it's opened doors.'

Unfortunately, there will always be those who seek to demean and troll influencers who put their personal lives online.

A post shared by James Butler (@james_patrice) on

'Because you do expose yourself to so many thousands of people, you might get some smart comments here and there, luckily I don't get too many, but you would get the odd one about your appearance or your weight.'

'But they're one in a million. You just need to forget about those, maybe be angry for 30 seconds and then be like "ah feck it they're saying it behind a keyboard they won't say it to your face."'

Hear, hear, James, hear hear!
