Chelsea Manning will be released from prison today after serving seven years

Chelsea's intended release date was set for 2045.

In one of his final acts as president, Barrack Obama reduced the US Army private's sentence.

She was sentenced to serve 35 years in 2010 after she leaked over 700,000 secret governmental and military documents and videos to Wikileaks.

'I can imagine surviving and living as the person who I am and can finally be in the outside world,' Manning said in a statement.

'Freedom used to be something that I dreamed of but never allowed myself to fully imagine.'

Manning made multiple suicide attempts while in prison, along with a hunger strike against the lack of medical care and disciplinary measures she faced.

Her mother has also released a statement, saying: 'I am so proud of Chelsea and delighted she will finally be free again.'

'Chelsea is so intelligent and talented, I hope she now has the chance to go to college to complete her studies, and to do and be whatever she wants.'
