If you're a fan of onions, then you'll have tried all kinds of tricks to stop your eyes from watering when you cut them.

Putting a spoon in your mouth and plonking the onion in water have all been tried and tested, but have you ever wondering why they actually make you cry?

Well, Dr Robert Rosa Jr spoke to Web MD and said that when onions are growing in the ground, they release a gas full of amino acid sulfoxides to deter critters from eating them.

So, when they onions are cut opened, they release the sulfoxides and enzymes, which create a gas called syn-propanethial-S-oxide, and that is what makes you tear up.

"It really is a complicated chemical process that creates the gas," said Dr Rosa.

"They all act as precursors that create the lachrymatory processor — or what makes you tear up.

"Your eyes have a set of nerves that detect anything that's potentially harmful to your eyes. Your eyes react to the gas that is formed, and your eyes try to flush it out with tears."

White, yellow and red onions are the main culprits as they release the strongest gas. Sweet onions, green onions and scallions have lower concentrations, which don't make your eyes water as much.

Robert warns that everybody is different, and some are more sensitive to the gas than others.

However, onions pose no threat to your vision or eye health.

"Chopping onions can cause some burning and irritation and tears. Other than that, it's pretty safe on your eyes. It's a temporary sensation with no known long-term effects, nor will it worsen any other conditions, like pink eye."

And to stop it? "I'd personally recommend using eye drops, like comfort drops, to help lubricate or rinse the eyes and dilute the gas exposure to the eyes," Dr Rosa said.

Six months ago, Kylie Jenner permanently inked her love for Tyga on her ankle. 

The reality TV teen got a 't' tattoo for her now ex boyfriend. 

Since their split, Kylie has gotten the tattoo covered up, relying on artistic expertise to transform the t into the LA sign. 

Tyga has also used his body art collection to showcase his love for Kylie, opting to get her name tattooed in bold on his inner right arm, as part of his extensive collection. 

You'd think this would be a lesson in possibly reconsidering getting matching tattoos with people, but Kylie has since gotten another new inking to match her rumoured new beau Travis Scott. 

The makeup mogul and the hip hop star got matching butterfly tattoos on their ankles two weeks ago.

Kylie is continually adding to her collection of teeny tatts. 

She has four others, all of which are red, and include a tiny heart on the back of her left arm, the word 'sanity' on her hip, the letter "m" on her middle finger and the signature of her grandmother Mary-Jo on her inner elbow.

You better be careful the next time you're throwing anything away.

Panda Waste has announced that it will fine customers whenever they throw away the wrong items into any of its bins.

The new system will be implemented next week, and Panda Waste customers are currently learning about the contract changes.

But that's not the only change to 150,000 customers' contracts.

It will also include asserting the right to enter people's homes and property to inspect rubbish, as well as fines for missing direct debit payments and adding on an extra charge is any waste is deemed hazardous.

According to 98fm, at the beginning of this year the waste collection company installed cameras onto its trucks to try catch customers out with things such as throwing a child's nappy into the green bin.

The new fine will cost customers €25.

Galway welcomes back The F Word, a feminist festival, this week for the second year. 

The festival is set to be a '5-day festival which will take place in venues across Galway city will explore some of the faces of feminism and related topics through participatory workshops, a 'Reclaim the Night' march, a day of meditation and relaxation, comedy, storytelling, music and a whole lot more.'

This will be a space for feminists and allies to come together to explore feminist issues. It will be an inclusive and accessible space for all women (both cis and trans) from all communities and walks of lives.'

We obviously have a lot of opinions!

Around 7,000 people have submitted ideas for the redesign of the Dublin Bus network.

The ideas forum went live last month, on June 6, when the NTA published the Dublin Area Bus Network Redesign Choices Report.

The NTA say it's the biggest response that they have ever seen.

NTA chief executive, Anne Graham, said: "We launched this consultation process a month ago, and with 7,000 respondents, the reaction has been very positive.

"A lot of the work we do involves consulting with the public, but we took a different approach this time around and decided to put an online survey at the centre of the process."

"This made it far easier for people to respond to, and I think that has made the world of a difference in terms of the number of members of the travelling public who actually participated in the consultation."

Yesterday evening, Rob Kardashian took to Instagram to publish nude images of his partner Blac Chyna for his 9.2 million followers to see. 

The explicit images were posted as Rob's revenge after he discovered that she had allegedly been cheating on him. 

It is revenge porn by its very definition, and American law experts say that Rob could have broken the California Law against the act. 

Two anonymous law officials spoke to The Huffington Post, and said that Rob showed 'the intent to cause serious emotional distress' against Blac Chyna by posting the pictures.

'This is sort of the classic, quintessential revenge porn,'  Carrie Goldberg, attorney and founder of Internet abuse and sexual consent firm C. A. Goldberg, PLLC told People. 

'Rob has made the work of a prosecutor or a victim's attorney quite easy so far as to even post about the very motive behind his outrageous act of posting these private and nude photos of his ex.'

'The allegation of infidelity does not give someone the right to seek revenge in such a devastating way.'

Instagram quickly removed the images and disabled Rob's account so that he could no longer post. 

He then switched social media platforms, going to Twitter, where he re-uploaded the images again as a series of tweets. 

Revenge porn was made a crime under the California Penal Code in 2013. 

The law states that private images should remain private and not be distributed.

Over the course of the last thirty minutes, Rob Kardashian has posted multiple intimate shots of Blac Chyna on Instagram in a move which has led many to question Rob's current state of mind.

After claiming that the mother of his baby daughter, Dream, has been cheating on him, 30-year-old Rob uploaded photos which featured Chyna in various states of undress.

In addition to these graphic uploads, Rob went on to upload footage which shows Chyna before undergoing weightloss surgery which he says she denies.

"Everyone wonders how Chyna lost all that weight after the baby and she lies to everyone but no I'm such a great Husband that on our anniversary I paid 100K to do this surgery to get all everything fixed as much as they could," he wrote in the controversial upload.

"And then guess what she did after she was all healed when I was by her side the entire time. She left me and my baby which she had out of spite to get back at her other baby daddy. I can't believe u would disrespect me like this."

Rob's decision to circulate nude images of his partner coincided with claims that she abuses alcohol and drugs, with one of Rob's post alluding to the quantity of alcohol she ordered to her home recently.

"U will never see Dream again unless u stop the alcohol and drugs and cocaine and X ad E. lol. That's called a party pack," he wrote.

Twitter has wasted no time responding to Rob's shocking uploads, with many condemning the reality star for his deplorable actions.

Just days after it was announced that Bravalla – a music festival in Sweden – would not be taking place next year, support has been shown for the creation of a female-only music festival.

Bravalla, which hosted 45,000 music fans at the end of June, is the subject of a police investigation after authorities received reports of four rapes and 23 sexual assaults.

Commenting on the cancellation of next year's event, organisers said; "We have seen sexual assault at our and other festivals in recent years, and it is a huge social problem that affects every part of our society."

"We are working actively to eradicate the darkness. But some men – because we are talking about men – apparently can’t behave. It’s a shame," they continued.

Following on from the announcement, Swedish radio presenter and comedian Emma Knyckare suggested the creation of a female-only rock festival.

Sharing her idea on Twitter this week, she wrote: "What do you think about putting together a really cool festival where only non-men are welcome, that we'll run until ALL men have learned how to behave themselves?"

After receiving support from social media users, the DJ confirmed that plans would be put in place, writing: "Sweden's first man-free rock festival will see the light next summer."

According to The Independent, Emma teased plans, writing: "In the coming days I'll bring together a solid group of talented organizers and project leaders to form the festival organizers, then you'll hear from everyone again when it's time to move forward."

Swedish authorities have received reports of similar assaults at other festivals in the country.

In the aftermath of a violent altercation with Stephanie Davis, Jeremy McConnell has revealed that the former Hollyoaks actress is pregnant.

Jeremy, who is the father of Stephanie's nine-month son Caben-Albi, has spoken out about the brawl which led to Stephanie's arrest in recent days.

According to numerous reports, 27-year-old Jeremy insisted the fight took place after Stephanie revealed she was expecting again.

"She just told me that she was pregnant. I was pretty shocked as it wasn't planned, but to be honest I was excited," the former Celebrity Big Brother star said.

"She told me that she was going to have a scan at the hospital later that afternoon. The pregnancy was not planned and given our history together took me by surprise. I was pleased, but still in a bit of a shock."

Jeremy went on to explain that his surprise over Stephanie's decision to smoke and drink inspite of her pregnancy led to the altercation in Enfield. north London.

"We were in the pub and having a few drinks. I had two or three and so did Steph which I thought was off as she was pregnant. She was also smoking and I told her a pregnant woman should not drink and smoke."

According to the Dublin-born reality star, Stephanie flew into a rage after she returned to the hotel they had chosen to stay at.

"When she came back to the hotel room she just flew at me. She was screaming and shouting and being abusive. She would not listened and for five to ten minutes just kept screaming at me.' 

Jeremy explained that Stephanie attacked him with a wooden post from the bed, but he refused to retaliate.

"But I swear I never laid a finger on her. I do not hit women and do not hit pregnant women. I did not touch her. Any marks that she has on her are self inflicted. I did not lay a finger on her.' 

24-year-old Stephanie was brought to hospital after being bailed from Enfield Police station while Jermey suffered a broken nose, fractured eye socket and concussion during the alleged assault.
