The mini backpack was a must have accessory in the 90s (bonus points if it was fluffy or faux quilted Chanel) and fashion's obsession with the 90s has yet to wane.

The mini backpack has made a triumphant return for the new season, and the smaller and more detailed the better.

Penneys, €10

From metallic hues to heavy embroidery, there is a baby backpack to suit everyone (unless you need to carry loads of bits around, in that case stick with your hold-all tote).

While these bags are teeny they can definitely fit more than a clutch, so if you need a choice of lipsticks on a night out, a mini bag could be the way to go.

Fjallraven Mini Kanken €69.95

While they might look dinky, the bags are pretty utilitarian.

This mini version of the trendy Fjallraven Kanken is sturdy while still being cute AF.

New Look€24.99

Minimalist stylings will always be chic, so opting for a classic, streamlined mini backpack is the safest way to rock this trend.

Parfois, €29.99

If you thought the shade camel was gone the way of the camel coat, you'd be wrong.

Camel is a classic, and this faux suede bag from Parfois has festival season all over it thanks to it's versatile shade and the addition of that edgy chain detail.

Missguided€22.50

As long as their are flannel lovers out there, the grunge trend will never die.

This ring-pull and zipper embellished backpack will add edge to any outfit.

ASOS €26.67

Leopard print has pretty much cemented itself as a fun but classic print, ideal to spice up your life with if your wardrobe consists exclusively of neutrals.

Boohoo, €22.00

Pastel pink has become one of the most beloved shades for spring, so incorporating this pale rose piece into your new season wardrobe is one way to nail two trends at once.

Plus, this Boohoo bag definitely has room for all the essentials.

 Skinny Dip London, €42.67

Opting for a novelty bag is one way to draw attention to your new accessory.

This fluffy, furry piece from Skinny Dip London is absolutely gas, but in the best possible way. We love it.

Parfois, €34.99

Another festival essential, this faux leather drawstring backpack is the perfect size for all of the essentials when heading into the main arena.

While festival season may be a while away, there's no harm in getting a head start on outfit planning.

Juicy Couture€419.99

Feeling splurgey? This mini Juicy Couture piece literally has Cher Horowitz written all over it, and what's a 90s trend without a Clueless reference?

But as IF we've got the cash for this gorgeous bag at this stage of the financial month.

There goes our social lives….

If you are thoroughly lacking a signifigant other and have accepted the fact that no amount of Tinder swiping will cause you to acquire one before the big event, then it's time to gear up for Galentine's Day.

Galentines Day involves eschewing the shackles of romantic relationships and celebrating the annual day of love with your besties.

But what to do when the restaurants are full of PDA-offending lovers and Instagram is full of pictures of Mchael Kors bags with the hashtag best boyfriend ever?

1. The ultimate girls night out

A photo posted by modàfashion. (@glamxmoda) on

An obvious choice but a complete classic.

Get your unattached ladies around for some predrinks and make some cocktail recipes you found on the internet, then paint the town red.

Everyone will be out for the shift, so if that's not your style, cackle in delight as you rebut the advances of the opposite sex. Or get the shift, you do you, girl.

2. Have a date night with your favourite actor

Not literally unfortunately, George Clooney will probably be busy with Amal.

But settling in for the night with a handful of movies featuring your ultimate thespian crush is the next best thing.

Don't forget to stock up on popcorn, pizza and wine so you don't have to move for the night.

3. Fifty Shades of Grey

Just like last year, the new Fifty Shades of Grey instalment is out around Valentines Day.

There is no better way to spend an evening than giggling at a rude movie with your best friends, and the experience will only be heightened by the fact that the cinema will be full of fellow females laughing at the cheesy romantic film. If BDSM can be considered romantic.

Booking in advance is probably a good idea, as cinemas can get pretty busy on V-Day.

4. Laugh until you cry…

…instead of just crying.

There are plenty of comedy gigs going on every night around the country, so if you and your girls need some cheering up on Galentine's, then a comedy show is a good way to get the laughs going.

Plus it's Valentines Day, so the comedian will probably be taking the p*** out of couples and romance to please your bitter, single heart.

5. Pamper day

A photo posted by L U N A (@nocomay) on

While this one is the ultimate cliche, getting a mani pedi with your best friend and then heading home to veg out wearing face masks is a pretty relaxing endeavour.

Meet up after work (V-Day lands on a Tuesday this year) for some evening treatments and then relax and reminisce on the ghosts of boyfriends past.

After all, sometimes romance can be fleeting, but your girls are there for life.

Today, the issue of sexual consent will be brought before the Cabinet.

Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald will seek Cabinet approval to define sexual consent in Irish legislation for the first time ever.

She will present a memo to this morning’s meeting outlining the inconsistency in Irish law and how she would address it.

The changes will include a definition that a person is incapable of consenting to a sexual act if they are asleep or unconscious.

This includes those who are unconscious due to intoxication, and those who are mistaken about the identity of the other person.

The changes to the law will also stress that a person cannot consent if they are being unlawfully detained, if they are unable to communicate due to a physical disability or if consent is offered through a third party.

A Department of Justice source told the Irish Times that the provisions would provide additional clarity for the legal system in sexual offences cases.

They would also serve “ as a clear reminder to those who would take advantage of persons who, in particular circumstances, are unable to consent.

The Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill, is due to be debated in the Dáil on February 1.

Nail trends come and go, and after a few seasons of extreme looks like fur nails, knitted nails and the flip manicure, we're ready for a more subtle way to express yourself using your nails.

Wire nail art is the minimalist, futuristic manicure of our dreams, and the artistic look is high on our must-try list.

The trend comes from the entrepreneurial Unistella nail salon, which is renowned for its revolutionary nail looks.

The look varies from creating aerodynamic arched tips, cuticle embellishments and artfully crafted all-over designs.

"When you make neon signs, you have to bend the wires to make certain lettering," Unistella owner Eun Kyung Park explained to Marie Claire.

"It's one long wire that's bent to create and connect the letters. I thought this was really cool and since nails are an accessory, I wanted it to be used for expression. Like rings."

Using painstaking precision, Park contorts the thin wire to her every whim using a tweezers and a hell of a lot od dedicated concentration.

This look is best lest to the professionals, but if you're doing it DIY, it's important to remember to give the wire a perfect finish so it doesn't snag on clothes or damage your skin (anyone who took metalwork in school can attest to this).

While this look may be a little high maintenance, we're dying to try it out.

Today, Apple released security updates for all its most popular devices, and it would be a pretty good idea to go update them ASAP.

While Apple releases updates to its operating systems with small fixes on the regular, the latest update might be a little more important.

Wired discovered that each operating system’s fixes in the latest update makes it harder for hackers to “execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges,” meaning that it will provide greater protection from hackers trying to take control of certain operating systems.

“It can add files, delete files, or execute any actions,” JP Taggart, senior security researcher at Malwarebytes told Wired

“Want to record conversations and forward them to someone else? It can do that. Want to instal additional malicious software? It can do that."

"Want to uninstall programmes on the affected phone? It can do that. Want to hide these actions, programmes and files from the user? It can do that too.”

The operating updates are not exclusive to the iPhone, but also the iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Apple computers.

The new update covers 13 security loopholes in the Apple software, including new protection to prevent malicious web pop-ups.

We're heading to general settings RIGHT NOW.

We all began 2017 with the best intentions in mind, but at this stage our chaste new rules are wavering.

Today is the day that the world collectively looses it willpower and breaks up with its new years resolutions.

January 24 is the day we are most likely to throw it all away, so if your resolution is on the outs, just know that you're not alone.

Whether it's working out, ditching the takeaways or quitting smoking, a combination of frustration and boredom can make today the toughest to get through.

Counselling Psychologist Aisling Curtin has dubbed today "turnback Tuesday."

"Research shows that about three and a half weeks in, that's when were at the most danger of breaking resolutions or breaking any new habit or pattern that we want to engage in that's overall healthier and better for our overall wellbeing," Aisling told Today.FM

So stick to your guns today, or that bikini body/organised house/dry January could all come crashing down.

Then again, you can always just start again for February.

Two Aer Lingus employees have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a €18 million human smuggling ring.

The operation was uncovered after the Special Detective Unit the Garda National Immigration Bureau discovered that Aer Lingus employees were smuggling immigrants into the country through Dublin airport, according to the Independent.

Ryanair have taken the opportunity to take a shot at the rival airline, posting a series of tweets that most Twitter users found to be in poor taste.

Making light of the controversy, the first tweet says that their seats are "cheaper (and more comfortable) than Aer Lingus' catering truck."

This comes after sources told the Independent that each person wishing to be smuggled into Dublin can pay anything between €10,000 and €30,000 to be helped enter the country illegally.

Another tweet shows a mock-up of an Aer Lingus catering trolley with human hands and feet sticking out.

The captions reads "Smart Immigrants flies Aer Lingus."

The tweets have caused outrage online, with people claiming that Ryanair have gone too far with their notoriously tongue-in-cheek communications. Some have even branded the tweets "racist."

Labour leader Brendan Howlin also weighed in on the controversy, tweeting: “Unbelievably cheap shot from Ryanair. Low standards, made simple.”

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "While everyone loves our low fares, our social media posts may not cater to all tastes."

The two Aer Lingus employees, along with the man being smuggled, will appear in court today.

For over a year now, Donald Trump has been the butt of nearly every joke, ever.

Yes, the bronzed businessman has found himself trending more times than a Kanye West rant.

So while we’ve becomes slightly desensitised to the punch lines, we still can’t help at least smirk anytime we hear a real knee-slapper.

This is one of those times.

Thanks to Neil Hardcastle and his word wizardry, we found ourselves in hysterics today after stumbling across his genius Facebook post.

Reworking the lyrics to our all-time favourite theme song, The Fresh Prince of Bell Air, Neil managed to sum up over a year’s worth of Donnie jokes in four glorious verses.

Referring to the 45th president of the United States, Neil eloquently dubbed Trump “the p**ck with the ridiculous hair” and it really went downhill from there.

Brilliant!

We all have the same fear: going to hair dresser for a trim and leaving virtually BALD.

This should no longer concern you ladies, because there is a way to be rid of those horrid split ends, while maintaining your lengthy locks.

Hair dusting is a new Internet sensation, and it is absolutely excellent.

The process is achieved by snipping the very bottom of each hair strand, which removes damaged split ends, without chopping inches off your hair.

However, while this technique is fabulous, it's also extremely time consuming… which is why it is not widely practised.

We would definitely spend a couple of hours getting a trim, if it meant we could keep our length.

January is a grim month for most of us and if you're a bit short of cash it's even worse.

But before you start contemplating selling a kidney or returning all your Christmas pressies… have a read of these six handy tips – they'll definitely see you through until payday.

1. Sell some stuff

Most of us have a few gadgets we don't need or clothes we don't wear anymore. Adverts.ie and Donedeal are handy ways to get rid of your old stuff and earn a few quid in the process.

Phones, laptops and cameras in particular are always in demand.

2. Get your five a day on the cheap

Check out the various supermarkets' offers on fruit and vegetables. With fresh fruit and vegetables for as little as 59 cent per packet in Aldi, we've never had such a good incentive to eat healthily!

Don't forget frozen vegetables too, these are usually cheap and can be used in stir-frys and soups.

3. Treat yo'self ..for free!

Dying for a treat but don't want to get into debt? Dig out those loyalty cards and see if you've any freebies due. Whether it's a free latte or a new nail polish, we could all use a pick-me-up in January.

Oh and that supermarket coupon booklet? Your new best friend!

4. Don't hibernate, get out there!

Get creative with your social life. Trips to the pub, cinema and that new foodie place are out until February, so make plans to get outdoors with your friends and family where possible.

Walks in the park, hiking in a scenic spot or a free exhibition won't cost a cent!

If it's lashing out, a movie night with homemade popcorn is a good compromise.

5. Stick to your resolutions

If you're struggling to stay off the fags or have a sober January, remember how much money these bad habits are costing you!

Stay strong and you'll have more disposable income at the end of the month.

6. Plan your next paycheck

We hate to preach but if you start a budget for next month now, it'll prevent you overspending on payday and ending up back in the same position.

Yes, it's been five weeks but no you're not a millionaire all of a sudden. Exercise restraint now and you'll thank yourself for it later.
