Yearly Archives: 2016

The second episode of the brand new series only aired last night – but it appears that much of the nation is already firmly hooked on Room To Improve.

And while a week ago the hit RTE show prompted plenty #teamMotherinlaw discussion, yesterday folk were more focused on THAT concrete wall.

Given pride of place in owner Ian Callaghan's living room at his newly acquired Co Louth abode, the grey slab seemed to be loved and loathed in equal measure by viewers.

Also catching the attention of viewers was brooding British Airways pilot Ian, who bought the 1930s property last year and renovated it with the help of his girlfriend, Claire Moore.

And it seems that 31-year-old Ian is more than just a handsome face: he was hailed as a hero last year when his place went on FIRE on the runway in Las Vegas.

With some 180 passengers and crew on board his Boeing 777-200 aircraft, he and Captain Chris Henkey safely evacuated the plane when one of the engines burst into flames shortly after take-off.

Afterwards, authorities in the US praised the duo for their quick-thinking and calm demeanour.

Claire, who had been dating Ian for more than a year when the frightening incident happened last September, told the Irish Mirror at the time: "I have flown with him loads of times so I know how confident and competent he is and what he did in Vegas just confirmed all that."

Meanwhile, a cartoon depicting how each episode of Room To Improve pans out it currently doing the rounds on social media.

Created by Dublin-based artist Twisted Doodles, the illustration includes a nod to budget woes and colour clashes, before wrapping up with Dermot desperating asking: "Why don't people listen to me?"

You'd be forgiven for having some post-Valentine's exhaustion today, given how many proposals, pictures of bouquets and #blessed statuses you had to wade through on Facebook over the weekend.

But before you swear off social media entirely, we insist you have a look at this gorgeous video from Westmeath mum Melanie Ní Beolláin, which is quickly going viral.

Melanie's son Brody wanted to share a little Valentine's love yesterday, and had his mam drop him over to his girlfriend's house with some gifts in tow.

Brody dropping off presents to his Valentine… Going to be such a gentleman

Posted by Melanie Ní Beolláin on Sunday, 14 February 2016

According to his proud mum, little Brody was "so nervous" before knocking on the door, despite being with his equally adorable girlfriend for "two years."

Since yesterday, Melanie's video has had almost 3,000 views and counting. We can see why, too – we challenge you not to watch Brody lean in for a cheeky hug without shedding a few tears of joy at your desk.

Happy (belated) Valentine's y'all.

It's going to be a busy 2016 for Maci Bookout and her partner Taylor McKinney, as the pair are set to welcome a third child into their home later this year.

Teen Mom OG star Maci confirmed the happy news yesterday on Instagram, sharing a Valentine's snap with her bump clearly on show.

"#makingmoremoneys baby boy coming soon!" Maci wrote alongside the sweet photo of herself and Taylor.

The 24-year-old also hinted that her third baby could be the final new arrival for her, adding the hashtag #lastbutnotleast to her post.

And while three might be the magic number for some, Maci told MTV News over the weekend that her latest pregnancy was a total surprise.

"I found out I was pregnant with baby number three right after we got engaged,” she explained.

"It was not expected or a planned pregnancy."

The expectant mum says she has no pregnancy nerves this time around – she already has seven-year-old Bentley from her relationship with Ryan Edwards, and one-year-old Jayde with Taylor – and is excited for what's to come.

"Because it’s the third one, you know what’s going on. You’ve been there, done that a couple times now, so it’s sort of laid back," she says.

We can't wait to see Maci's new arrival!

Justin Timberlake and Alfonso Ribeiro decied to take a break on the golf course over the weekend.

The BFFs got broke out in dance during the Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament in California on February 13, stopping everyone in the crowd so they could do the iconic “Carlton” dance together.

JT and Alfonso quieted the onlookers in the middle of the game. Once the crowd were quiet, the men began to swing their arms wildly to the delight of fans.

This isn't the first time the pair have broken out into dance in the middle of a game of golf though. Just last summer they did the nostalgic dance together at the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in Nevada.

We're just looking forward to more from these two!

Today is the day of love and whether you're going out on date night, staying in and eating pizza (YES) or hanging out with the girls, you NEED to end the night with this boozy cherry hot chocolate.

Toast to your relationship or toast to being the most bangin' single gal around, either way this drink is the perfect nightcap.

Ingredients:

  • 2 measures of vodka per cup
  • splash of cherry juice
  • hot chocolate mix
  • whipped cream
  • cherries for decoration

Method:

1. Prepare your hot chocolate mix as usual.

2. When slightly cooled, add in vodka and cherry juice. Stir well.

3. Dollop with whipped cream and cherries, and serve.

Simple! And maybe you can use the whipped cream for something else later… (wink wink).

Stephanie Davis seems to already be well in with Jeremy's family.

The pair have been together non-stop since their stint on CBB, and now they are in Dublin.

Jeremy brought Steph to his hometown for V-Day where he introduced her to his family, and Steph seemed pretty overly chuffed about it.

She wrote on Twitter, "On way to Dublin with me new amazing perfect imperfect family. Buzzing!" and added a whole load of emojis.

There seems to be no stopping these two! And let's be honest, who would have guessed they'd stick together after the show.

World renowned chef, Marco Pierre White's estranged wife Mati Conejero has been charged with attacking her own sons, the Daily Mail reports.

She told the online mag, "There are two charges, one is one son, and one is the other. I'm not speaking to the press. When the time's right I will."

Mati was arrested in September on suspicion of bodily harm after her sons, Luciano and Marco Junior made an allegation of assault.

Luciano, 21 and Marco Jr, 20, are both models and also appear on the London social scene quite often. The couple also have a 13-year-old daughter, Mirabelle.

It is now requested that she makes a court appearance at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on March 7.

For legal reasons, the details of the assault cannot be released to the media.

We all know Jennifer Lawrence is the ultimate BFF, and she showed it last night by rocking out at Adele's concert.

The actress turned up with Emma Stone (#Goals) and while Adele sang Rolling In The Deep, J-Law totally rocked out.

But, Ms Lawrence wasn't the only celeb at the show last night.

Yep, see the man rocking out with Jen on the left? That's Woody Harrelson. And it was also rumoured that Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry enjoyed a date night there, too.

Gwen Stefani is the woman to watch at the moment.

Not only has she spent the last year being a kick-ass coach on The Voice, she's also getting ready to debut her new album AND she's found love again with Blake Shelton.

But the band that made her, No Doubt, has indefinitely replaced her with a dude.

Yep. Who's going to sing Like A Girl now, huh?

The guy they have replaced her with is frontman to screamo band AFI, Davey Havok, reports Billboard.

Davey, along with the original band members, Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young have already recorded an LP and are looking around for labels to sign them.

We don't know about you, but a Gwen-less No Doubt sounds sorta weird. We guess the truth will be told when they release new music.

Fine Geal TD Alan Shatter believes his campaign posters are “being sabotaged”, because apparently, cable ties are being cut on them so they fall down or are blown away by the wind.

It is claimed that a campaign poster was retrieved from the garden of one of Alan's team members and they said it is clear the ties were cut, as holes were not torn into the picture.

Mr Shatter said that it is “unfortunate that at least one if not more of my political opponents have no respect for democracy and appear intent on sabotaging my election campaign”.

"I believe we should never give in to bullies or prejudice," he added. Sorry about your posters, Alan!

In a world full of girl power, we're not really sure what Kanye was thinking writing about Taylor Swift.

When songs dropped from his new album T.L.O.P. last week, much attention was put on the tune Famous.

Why? Well let's just say he rapped about a certain pop star – and not in a good way.

"I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why, I made that bitch famous / God damn / I made that bitch famous," the in-debt superstar said.

And as you can imagine, Taylor's squad totally hit back, with Selena Gomez taking centre stage.

"Everybody has their own opinion," she said on SiriusXM Hits 1. "At the end of the day, you can just do what you do."

"She's killing it and she kind of always has been," Selena added.

So, go home now, Kanye.

Well, we can say goodbye to sweets as we know them because a major change is about to happen.

A press release was issued by parent company Mars, Inc, which said that all artificial colours will be removed from over 50 of the chocolates, gum, foods, drinks, and confections that the company makes.

They are replacing them with all natural alternatives that the company has to source with the help of its suppliers.

So, that means M&M's, Snickers, Wrigley's chewing gum and Skittles are all about to change.

It's a good thing that artificial colours are becoming a thing of the past, but the same issue happened with an American cereal brand, and let's just say, it looked very different, indeed:

But don't run out to your local shop and buy a lifetime stash of Snickers just yet. The change is going to take up to five years to complete, so we still have loads of time to munch down on our goodies.
