Yearly Archives: 2016

Summer is jam-packed with gigs and festivals – it's probably why it's our favourite season of the year (well, that and the sun, obvs).

But sometimes there's so many concerts and weekend fests that we just don't know which one (or three) to choose from.

Here, we've complied a list of the best music events on around Ireland over the next few months – ones you'll be totally devo if you miss out on them:

1. Longitude

With The Coronas, Kendrick Lamar and The Lumineers all set to take to the stage, Longitude Festival is definitely something you'll want to experience. Taking place in Marley Park from July 15 to 17, it's going to be a great weekend.

2. Groove

Groove Festival is taking place in Kilruddery House, Co. Wicklow on July 2 and 3. Between acts such as Aslan, Ocean Colour Scene and The Academic all taking to the stage, and the Celtic Kitchen dishing out some fab Irish grub, you'll be spoiled for choice at this fest.

3. Castlepalooza

This Irish independent festival will see Jurassic 5, Lynched, and Tiger and Woods playing over the weekend at Chareville Castle in Tullamore, so it's something that's not to be missed. Throw that in with good July weather (fingers crossed) and it's a dream come true.

4. Electric Picnic

More acts have just been announced for EP including Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, The 1975, Nas and Joey Badass. Taking place in Stradballay in 63 days (we're not counting.. *cough*), this year's Picnic is looking epic already.

5. Shemazing! Gig with Róisín O (obvs)

Yes! We are hosting our very own gig that's definitely not to be missed. With Róisín O headlining on the night – and loads more acts to be announced – it's going to kick off July with a bang. Just keep your eyes peeled, you have no idea what we have in store *mischievous face emoji*. You can get your tickets here.

Congratulations to Simon Delaney! The TV presenter has just announced he's become a dad again.

The Saturday AM co-host took to Twitter last night to announce that he and his wife, Lisa, have welcomed their fourth child into the world.

The proud parents had a baby boy and named him Lewis.

Simon tweeted a photo of his gorgeous little lad and wrote: “Allow me to introduce Lewis Delaney, who arrived tonight at 7:53pn. Mam and Baby were both amazing!!” Aw!

However, while most new dads spend the first hours with their bundle of joy, Simon had to get back to business this morning to present Saturday AM alongside his pregnant co-host Anna Daly.

Congratulations Simon and Lisa, we hope all the health and happiness for their little one.

Farrah Franklin, the lesser known Destiny's Child singer was arrested during the week for public intoxication.

Farrah was a part of the girl group before they really became famous, and while being arrested, she allegedly told the police that she should have "downed" more alcohol, according to TMZ.

The site claims that the former singer got into an argument with a male friend around 3am on Thursday outside a gym and when the police turned up she said she was not ready to go home.

They noticed she was clearly drunk, and when asked how much she had, Farrah replied: "Not enough."

She was then arrested for public intoxication and she was also in possession of a small amount of cannabis.

The bail was set at $250, but no one has bailed her out yet…

Amber Heard has filed another lawsuit in relation to Johnny Depp's legal battle – but now, she's filing one against his friend.

E! News has confirmed that Amber has filed a defamation lawsuit against one of Johnny's closest friends, comic Doug Stanhope, after he wrote an article for website The Wrap, where Doug claimed that his BFF is being "blackmailed" by the actress.

"Amber Heard filed a lawsuit today in the Arizona Superior Court for the County of Cochise. The defendant is Doug Stanhope, a resident of that county," Amber's counsel told the site.

"The Complaint alleges that Stanhope is a close friend of Johnny Depp and, as part of a coordinated effort, wrote a highly defamatory article about Ms. Heard, filled with completely false, highly defamatory and very hurtful statements.

"Ms. Heard seeks the maximum possible jury award, and will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the lawsuit to Chrysalis, a domestic violence shelter in Arizona, in an effort to counter the setback made to women by the defendants' defamatory article and related wrongful acts."

We can see this getting very messy.

In even more sad celebrity break-up news, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have decided to call time on their relationship.

The actors both absolutely shocked fans when they made the announcement on Instagram on Friday.

They both shared the same message on the photo-sharing app, saying that after 6 years they've decided they're just better off as "best friends."

"After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship," the former Disney star wrote.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realised more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another.

"Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years."

We're so shocked and sad by this.

Marnie Simpson is not one to mince her words but the controversial Geordie Shore star's comments landed herself in trouble this week with none other than Made in Chelsea's Lucy Watson.

After being involved in a pretty serious body-shaming war with Celebrity Big Brother contestant Jasmine Lennard earlier this week, Marnie wrote in her Star magazine column that while she once wished she was as thin as the Made in Chelsea girls, she's now glad that she's not that skinny.

She said: “I tweeted when I was pissed that I was jealous of the MiC girls’ thin bodies, but actually I don’t think I’d like to be that skinny."

Before adding: “Lucy Watson looks like a skeleton.”

Lucy then took to Twitter to call Marnie up on her comments.

The slim brunette – who is a proud vegan – tweeted the geordie saying: “yeah you look great! Shame you then had to go and insult my body to make yourself feel better.”

Marnie quickly tried to defend herself by saying it was only an opinion but seemed to make the situation even worse by adding: "But if u wana be nasty I can be nasty too."  Oh, dear!

Eventually Lucy pointed out the irony of the situation by tweeting: “Girls think it’s out of order for someone to call them fat then go around publicly calling another girl a skeleton #StopBodyShaming.”

Given that neither reality star is known to back down, we doubt this is over.

Really sad news this morning, ladies. World famous boxer Muhammad Ali has died at the age of 74.

Mr Ali passed away after a 32-year length battle with Parkinson's disease.

The legendary boxer died with his family at his side last Friday. He was rushed to hospital the day before as he complained that he had difficulty breathing.

Muhammad's spokesman said last night: "After a 32-year battle with Parkinson's disease, Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening."

Muhammad's family would also like this let his fans know that his funeral will be held in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. They also thanked the public for their support now, and through the years.

Zac Efron is usually hot not matter what he does. But his latest look is certainly not impressing us. At all.

The actor shared a picture on Twitter today, and we have to say, his new hair is looking particularly like Justin Bieber's old mop (which we kinda hated as well) before he got dreadlocks.

The 28-year-old was visiting a school and playing with kids in the picture, but unfortunately the focus was mainly on his head.

Imitation is the biggest form of flattery, right? But, maybe both men should have steered clear from this do'.

Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio has been linked with a string of beautiful women in the recent past, but apparently the latest woman to catch his eye comes from our side of the pond.

According to The Sun, Leo has been jetting back and forth across the Atlantic in order to spend time with British model Roxy Horner.

On Tuesday the pair were spotted hanging out in London's Tape nightclub and later continued their night out at the Chiltern Firehouse – where they were also seen back in February.

A source told The Sun: "Leo didn’t leave Roxy’s side. After the club they headed to the Chiltern, where a number of onlookers said the pair looked extremely cosy together.”

They added: “Roxy is a really sweet, caring normal girl. She’s naturally stunning and she has a lot in common with Leo. They’re smitten and enjoy spending time together."

Suggestions of romance between the Wolf of Wall Street star and pop sensation Rihanna have also been circulating in recent months – although there has never been any confirmation that the pair are actually an item.

It has also been alleged that the 41-year-old was seen flirting with model Kendell Jenner at Cannes Film Festival last month.

Well, all is not well in Spice Girl land.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Mel B has totally dismissed claims made by Victoria Beckham which suggested that her microphone was turned down during gigs.

However, Mel was quick to add in, "She wishes it was turned off!" Ouch.

Scary Spice also addressed Vicky's "diva" behaviour back in the day and her previous comments that she had the "last laugh" in the group:

"We sung live, and we wrote and recorded all our music together live and we performed it live. It wasn't turned down."

Conflicting views, so?

Mrs Beckham previously told Claudie Winkleman at Vogue's 100 exhibition: "They used to turn it off and just let the others sing. I got the last laugh – and now my mic is well and truly on, finally."

So, about that Spice Girls reunion? Yeah… we're doubting all the members will attend now…

One of the world's most recognisable models put her fame to good use this week as she was revealed as the face – and body – of the first ever 'I'm Not a Trophy Campaign'.

The campaign is being run by the I'm Not a Trophy organisation which aims to raise awareness of the fact that a variety of endangered species are still being hunted by poachers.

A series of six images were posted to the group's Instagram account yesterday which all show Cara posing with nothing but animal imagery covering her body.

A photo posted by I'm Not a Trophy (@imnotatrophy) on

Each of the images shows a different endangered animal and is branded with the words "I'm Not a Trophy".

The model – who is an ambassador for the animal rights group – was introduced to the organisation's founder Arno Elias through model friend Suki Waterhouse.

Cara told MarieClaire.com: "I was introduced to Arno’s work after falling in love with the images he did for my friend and fellow model Suki Waterhouse."

“Suki put us in touch, and before we knew it we were in Paris shooting together.”

The 23-year-old says she's passionate about animal rights and is honoured to be part of the campaign: "I'm extremely proud to act as inaugural ambassador for the first-ever, international I'm Not a Trophy campaign, a cause that not only benefits endangered species, but empowers women as well."

So not only does the Suicide Squad actress look the part, she genuinely believes in the campaign too.  Go Cara!
