10 amazing uses for baking soda

It’s time to pull out that lonely container of baking soda from the back of your cupboard and put it to some good use.

Unclog your sink
Got a clogged sink? No problem. Pour your baking soda down the drain and leave to sit for about an hour before pouring boiled vinegar on top.

Freshen up stinky carpets
Sprinkle a little baking soda over your carpets and leave to sit for about a half an hour. Vacuum it up and voila, a nice smelling room.

Brighten your whites
Add a cup of baking soda into your next wash for bright, fresh smelling clothes.

Clean your grout (the bit between your tiles)
Cleaning your grout can be impossible but not when you have the aid of a little baking soda. Rub a little onto it, spray with water and leave to sit for ten minutes. Scrub away with a toothbrush… an old toothbrush.

Chanel is the latest brand to find inspiration from the mundane task of grocery shopping and supermarkets.

Moschino did something similar with their fashion week collection, featuring a Tony the Tiger and Chocolate Digestive’s handbags. Was there a memo we missed out on?

Chanel turned Paris’ Grand Palais into a hypermarket for their fashion week yesterday – however the clothes didn’t reflect the inspiration, thankfully.

On another note, it would appear a certain Kendall Jenner is mixing with the big names as she walks Chanel’s catwalks.

Yes, Chanel! Can you get any bigger than that? Kendall has definitely proved she belongs on the runway at these recent fashion weeks.

We are glad her controversial family name hasn’t stopped her becoming a successful model.

We’ve all been there before, waking up with a hangover from hell and claiming that we will never drink again, only to be in the same boat the week after. And it looks like we’re not about to change.

According to recent research, hangovers neither deter you from drinking nor encourage you to drink more. In fact, the hair of the dog is not as popular as it may seem.

The research analysed the drinking habits of 386 young people who each had to complete a three week drink diary. This resulted in 2,276 drinking episodes and 463 hangovers.

Thomas Piasecki, lead author of the study said: “Drinkers do not seem to be bothered that much by the temporary discomfort of a hangover, since it does not get them to delay their drinking in any meaningful way, and since other studies show that young drinkers often perceive hangovers to be neutral or positive experiences.”

He went on to add: “Experiencing frequent hangovers is a warning sign that should probably prompt you to reflect upon your drinking”.

The Canadian singer was reportedly frightened by a fan trying to get on stage while she was performing one of her biggest hits.

The song in question? “I’m With You” – maybe she is just really sick of singing that tune.

When Lupita Nyong’o, walked down the carpet at the Oscars 2014, she wowed the crowd with her beauty.

As always, the 31-year-old looked stunning as she flaunted a beautiful blue gown and lit up the place with her natural glow.

Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about that head band.

Despite her effort to style up her hair, that band really didn’t do her any justice.

It was certainly a miss for us!

71-year-old Jessie Webb has been looking after little George since he was born, having previously had the role of nanny to William and Harry when they were younger.

However, while William and Kate want her to continue, extra help will be brought in for their tour of New Zealand and Australia – and possibly on a permanent basis.

During a weekend press briefing outlining the itinerary of the family’s trip, the couple’s secretary listed the names of people travelling in the royal party and concluded: “a new addition to the party is, of course, Prince George’s nanny.”

While the identity of George’s new nanny is still unknown, The Daily Beast reports: “[she is] believed to be English, in her twenties and already well-established with the family at Kensington Palace.”

Rihanna is well known for her outrageous Instagram posts, between flashing her bum to striking pretty seductive poses; however, the latest one is a top contender for bizarre photo of the year.

The We Found Love singer posted a picture of herself getting ready. Nothing unusual there we hear you say, but the Diamonds singer is casually standing in a barely-there dress doing her make up while two guys do something – we’re not sure what – to her bottom half.

In fact, one guy is even lifting up the back of her dress and seems to be having a very good look at her backside. Followers of the singer’s Instagram account even questioned what he was doing. One wrote: “What is he doing in the Back?!” while another wrote: “Is he trying to smell her fart??? Lol.”

The 26-year-old left it up to her followers’ imaginations to figure out what is going on and simply captioned the photo: “…”

If you want to look shine-free this summer, it’s important you regulate your beauty routine. Although blotting paper and mattifying primers help, there is a lot more you can do to prevent a midday shiny face.

Keep these pointers in mind the next time you want to buy new products:

Use an oil regulating cleanser
A cleanser with ingredients like salicylic acid or purifying clay help clear pores and control oiliness.

Use a toner
Since harsh ingredients get rid of natural oils and cause your skin to produce extra oil, use a natural toner with tea tree oil or calendula extracts.

Clay mask
Use a clay-based mask once a week to shrink pores and regulate oil control.

Exfoliate
Not only does it get rid of the dead skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin, but it also makes the oil-controlling products you apply afterwards more effective.

Primer
Look for a translucent primer that is suited for your skin type to use under makeup or on its own.
