Obviously it would be wrong to tar an entire gender with the same brush, but sometimes people need a little reminder that women experience the world differently to men because of increased fears of being attacked, mugged or sexually harassed.

Statistics show that men orchestrate the majority of crimes in Ireland, and one Twitter user is asking women at large what they would do if men had a 9pm curfew.

Of course, crime would still be committed by female criminals, but the women responding had a lot to say about the freer ways they would live their lives if men we're tucked away in bed by 9pm.

At SHEmazing HQ, we considered our own answer to this intriguing question:

'I would put on my sexiest ensemble, get hammered, and sing all the way home. I would live my life without late-night fears looming over me.' – Shayna Sappington, SHEmazing writer

'I would go for a run with both earphones in and the music as loud as I wanted because I know I don’t have to keep an ear out for someone coming up behind me.' – Sorcha McMangian, SHEmazing writer

'I'd stop clutching my keys in my hand, pop my headphones in and listen to Fleetwood Mac on full volume because I'd finally feel safe walking down the road I've lived on for 24 years.' – Kat O'Connor, SHEmazing writer.

'I would stop having to worry about my little sister getting spiked when she goes out. It honestly keeps me awake at night.' – Sarah Magliocco, SHEmazing writer

It's that time of year again – The Great British Bake Off addiction is well and truly underway.

Amateur bakers around the country have been spurred on to give cake making a go, after being inspired by the weekly show.

After almost burning down the kitchen for the fifth week running, we've decided to leave it to the self-professionals that grace our screens every week.

And I say self-professionals as Paul Hollywood has been dishing out his famous handshakes this season right, left and centre.

The handshake is no longer the sacred holiness that the amateur bakers tremble and shed a tear at.

At this stage, it's almost a shock to both audience and contestants alike if we make it a whole episode without Paul extending the hand.

Rightly so, Paul has been burnt on Twitter for his looseness with his Hollywood handshakes.

The 52-year-old has been forced to defend his actions and told viewers to expect a change for the rest of Bake off.

On The Jonathan Ross Show Paul explained why he was so generous with the shake: "I've taken a bit of flack over [it]. The handshake came from when [bakes] looked very professional and they almost cross that line from being amateur to professional."

"Every year the standard has got better and better and better and this year has been phenomenal. Some of the flavours they are bringing out. Rahul's stuff has been incredible."

Thankfully, we won't have to endure too many shakes, as the celeb chef said: "you will see it happen, the handshakes almost stop. Because what I've done is I've realised they are all moving up in standard so I've got to move my barrier up so that's exactly what I do, I raise the bar and then no one gets over the top of it."

In reply to the stick he received on Twitter, Paul said: "What you're forgetting which is crucial is the general standard of baking/bakers has risen year on year… this is reflected in any praise given."

Regardless if you love or hate the handshakes – we will definitely be tuning into the Bake Off tonight and criticising cakes we could only dream of making, heavily defending our favourites and drooling over Rahul's flawless bakes.

“I really love that I grew up in such a nature based way. My mother has such a great imagination, we would go for a walk in the woods and she’d be like ‘let’s go look for fairies.’”

Julia Harley Francisco-Simoes, a stop motion animator from Boston, has some rather unique artistic influences.

“I like my art to be weird-fantasy. I’m definitely influenced by Wicca.”

As well as being a full-time art and design student, she is also a practising witch. No, I don't mean the Harry Potter kind. She's a Wiccan, a modern form of spirituality rooted in pagan beliefs.

Julia, who was born in Portugal and moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts, grew up surrounded by magic with a Wiccan mother.

“It was quite cool and secretive; she would go with her girlfriends to take part in rituals. She would always be burning sage around the house," Julia recalled.

“We would go to celebrations like May Day, and dance around the Maypole. I was never made read the Bible or anything like that. We always had spell books around the house.  I suppose that’s something that I’ve carried forward with myself into my own life.”

Founded in the 1940’s the practise of Wicca centres around traditional Pagan beliefs and the worship of a variety of deities. The Wiccan Rede constitutes as a guide for practising Wiccans, with the mantra “harm none and do what will.”

“Many of the books I’d go to about Wicca are by authors with  names like Wolfstein, Silver Wolf, or other funny and gothic names. It’s sometimes like living in a Twilight novel,” she laughs.

Most Wiccans believe in the Horned god and the Moon Goddess, who can encompass hundreds of deities across a range of cultural backgrounds, from Greek and Roman, to Hindu and Egyptian, to African and Celtic.

“Which tradition you follow largely depends on where you’re from,” Julia explains. “Since we’re from Portugal I would follow the European traditions. Like warding off the evil eye.”

Many Wiccans pick a deity to follow in their everyday life, however this is not always the case.

“I don’t follow any particular deity, but when you do you try to emulate their values and what they stand for in your own life.”

When one says that they are practising witch, it can be all too easy to picture broomsticks and cauldrons. However this is not the only misconceptions Wiccan’s like Julia face.

“Most people associate Wicca with Satanism, when really they’re completely different.  It’s because of the pentangle. The inverted pentangle is a symbol of Satanism but in Wicca the regular pentangle represents the five elements- air, earth, fire, water, and ether [spirit].”

Spells are less “bubble, double, toil and trouble” and more along the lines of positive thinking and picturing, or manifesting, things you want to happen.

“Spells are a form of self-divination. You picture something you really want in your head and drive all your motivation into that. It’s trying to manipulate your auras and the universe to help your purpose.”

“Each time it’s worked I’ve been a bit shook, to be honest. There are spells for ill-will and blessing spells. Most of them do come back. That’s why I only do positive ones.”

“I must sound crazy,” she laughs again. “Some of them are really bizarre. Like there was one love potion that asked you to lick a spoon and sleep with it under your pillow.”

Many Wiccans employ the help of herbs or crystals, Julia herself recommends placing clear quartz stone on the forehead to help with migraines.

Fancy a little bit of magic in your life? Julia has shared two of her favourite potions that can be made at home, black cat not needed.

"Love Tea: Drink this tea from a pink cup before a date, or if you are just casting a love spell- You can also use this to soothe a broken heart.

Steep 2 tsp of the blend in 8Fl. oz. (250 ml) of hot water for 5 minutes. Use 2 tbsp crushed rose petals, 2 tbsp dried lavender buds, seeds of Vanilla pod or 1/2 tsp of pure vanilla extract.

"Relaxation Oil: Can be burnt in an aromatherapy lamp, or applied to the forehead or in a bath:

"1 fl oz. (30 ml) almond or jojoba oil, 3 drops of lemon balm, 3 drops of lavender oil, 3 drops of passionflower oil and one drop of rose or rosewood oil."

However, Julia won't be making any big batches of spells any time soon. She's far too busy working on fantastic album covers, sculpture, commissioned illustrations and music video- which you can check out here.

Fancy trying out a bit of witchery for yourself? Julia recommends stocking up on reading material such as The Witch's Journal

While you may never have gotten that Hogwarts letter, that doesn't mean that you can't embrace a bit of magic.

Fans freaked when Westlife announced their massive comeback concert set for next year.

They will be taking over Croke Park and embarking on a UK and Ireland tour as well.

But many were disappointed when it was revealed that Brian McFadden will not be joining the boys for their revival.

And now we finally know what’s been holding the 90's superstar back.

Brian recently divulged that he has a new passion taking precedence over his previous singing career…

Dance.

The talk show Lorraine stated that he will be joining the cast in the upcoming season of Dancing on Ice.

“Will Brian McFadden be flying without wings when he takes to the ice? He's the fourth celebrity to be confirmed for this year's Dancing On Ice.”

The former Westlife member replied with a video saying, “Yes, the news is true. I am going to be doing Dancing on Ice 2019. I’m very excited.”

Brian went on to explain how serious he is taking his new role, training as often as he can.

“I’ve already been practising out the back garden on me rollerblades, and me mammy says I’m a one-man Torvill and Dean.”

Joining him will be TOWIE star Gemma Collins, Eastenders’ Richard Blackwood, and ballroom dancer James Jordan, best known for his time on Strictly Come Dancing.

Brian’s announcement has sparked mixed reactions from Twitter users, some giving thumbs down and others celebrating the “brilliant” news.

Nevertheless, it appears that Brian has found a new calling, and we will just have to wait and see if his hard work has paid off next year.

We've heard it time and time again.

Thanks to various diets such as Atkins and Paleo, it has become more and more common to hear your mate say, 'I'm cutting out ALL carbs this week' when she wants to lose a few inches.

Of course, most people give up within a few days (or hours) because bread and pasta… glorious.

However, a new study has revealed that pasta isn't that bad, and can actually help you along the way to becoming a healthier person.

Department of Epidemiology at the Institute for Research, Hospitalization, and Health Care in Italy analysed the eating habits of 23,000 people.

Out of all the participants, they found that those who ate pasta regularly had a reduced likelihood of being obese.

"Our data shows that enjoying pasta according to individuals' needs contributes to a healthy body mass index, lower waist circumference, and better waist-hip ratio," George Pounis, the author of the study wrote.

Taking a line from the Mediterranean diet, which has been proved to be one of the healthiest, pasta is a "fundamental" part and cutting it out to lose weight is not the "correct attitude."

Well, pass the Carbonara then.

By Kate Brayden

When Peter Cattaneo’s 1997 film version of The Full Monty came out, it was a breakout hit for the way in which it struck a chord with its irrepressibly English humour, and the way in which it captured the deep feeling of shame which overcame men in 1970s Britain who were rendered unemployed by Margaret Thatcher’s closure of the steel factories (seen in Billy Elliot also).

Making over $250 million in the box office, it was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed for its original storyline, self-deprecating script and unique take on masculinity during the 1970s in the UK. It went on to receive four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, and took home the gong for Best Original Musical Score.

So it certainly has a lot to live up to, to say the least.

David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers are now touring around the UK and Ireland with their own stage version of Simon Beaufoy’s original play, which has won the UK Theatre Award for Best Touring Production, and is definitely worth the viewing before it finishes its final ever run in 2019.

It stars Gary Lucy in the protagonist role (played by Robert Carlyle in the original flick) who has previously been seen in British television roles on East Enders, Hollyoaks, The Bill and Dancing on Ice. Lucy steps into the part of Gaz, an irresponsible but lovable Sheffield lad who has the slightly deranged but hugely entertaining idea of creating a striptease act when him and six other steelworker friends lose their jobs.

Out of work and impoverished, Gaz is desperate to get some cash fast when his ex-wife threatens to take full custody over his son, Nathan, played brilliantly by Fraser Kelly.

The acting dynamic between Lucy and Kelly is striking, with their relationship both heartwarming and comical as Nathan shows far more maturity than his father, and even claims to be the manager of the strip group.

Each character has a shining turn, from Horse the oldest man being the best dancer despite an arthritic hip, to Lomper’s adorable, vulnerable character who is introduced at the start through a suicide attempt (how they made this funny I have no idea.), each man gets to show his talent and charm throughout.

The sense that the men really do have nothing to lose adds a sense of poignancy to their humour, and it’s impossible not to root for them. Kai Owen steals the show as Gaz’ best friend Dave, who takes a fair amount of coaxing to get up onstage, feeling inadequate and overweight in comparison to the other men.

I also wanted to hug Lomper throughout, Joe Gill shines in the role and captures the dopey but affable depressed character who finds his only friends in the strip tease group. Andrew Dunne plays the role of the ‘Conservative’ Tory Gerald who becomes on a level playing field with the lower class men when he also joins the turbulent world of unemployment, and later becomes their dance teacher, as well as their friend.

The class issues are mainly played out through his character, who Tom Wilkinson famously portrayed in the film. There is a clear divide between the snobbery of the Thatcher’s middle and upper class Conservatives, and the more impoverished Northerners, the resentment of her is made apparent throughout. Another important aspect of the work is the sense of emasculation through the loss of their jobs.

Each male character has his own insecurities which he must face, among them are medical problems, lack of body confidence, unsatisfied wives, an angry ex-wife and hidden sexual orientations. Father’s rights, impotence, mental health and working class culture.

The levels which the men will go to for his own feeling of pride and masculinity are what unify the six men, and they get through their own struggles through their friendship and strange sense of empowerment which they achieve through taking their clothes off for a lot of screaming women. Seems legit.

The stage version was different to the film in the way that it appeared to be marketed towards a female audience, rather than male. The film had a grit and more subtle sense of humour about the actual nudity than the show itself, but the atmosphere of the Gaiety and unabashed excitement of every woman in the theatre made the cast light up. Songs from iconic acts like Hot Chocolate, Donna Summer and Tom Jones frame the quick and colloquial witty script, and the set was excellently transformed from a steelyard rehearsal space to a bar to a Conservatives country club in seconds by the backstage crew, and the cast moved effortlessly around it. Its not surprising that the 2018 tour is directed by a former Full Monty 2014 cast member, Rupert Hill.

There was enough X-rated jokes to last the entire year, which took a little bit away from the important underlying themes of the script itself, but you couldn’t help but laugh throughout despite this. The comic timing was on point, the music was perfection and the individual stories and humour of each character really made the audience believe in their friendship.

They were honestly having the time of their lives onstage, and the audience couldn’t help but join in. We also got a great element of audience participation for the finale, which was hilarious until I realised that I was sitting with about 500 squealing women and my elderly father, who was supremely uncomfortable, but seemed to still enjoy himself.

He needed a pint after…but still. He had shown me the original movie back in 2002, when I was far too young, and I had to repay him by taking him to see the stage version.

In my defence, there was far less nudity in the film, I swear.

Shoutout to the woman beside me who stood up and squealed when they threw their tops into the audience and grabbed the sweaty tank top from my grip (I caught it out of instinct okay!!! I wasn’t reaching…)

Overall, 10/10 would recommend to a (probably female) friend.

The cynic in me will whisper that it isn’t as good as the movie, but that would have been next to impossible.

It adapts excellently to the stage, and retains most of the same hilarious humour and touching themes. Whatever you do, just save yourself the awkwardness and don’t bring your dad. Trust me.

One Direction: love them or hate them – you can't deny how bloody catchy their tunes are. Plus, the lads are very easy on the eye.

And there's some good news for fans, it seems that we could be bobbin' along to some new beats.

Liam Payne was asked if there was a possibility if One Direction could reunite and he replied:“There is, definitely.”

Now, before you start the fan girl screaming – Payne has indicated that it could be a while away yet.

So we could be growing beards by the time they take the stage.

“I think it would be nice if we could get back together, but we’ll see. In time. All in good time,” hinted Liam.

But of course, he couldn't say what it was in relation to – SOBS.

One Direction broke fans hearts around the world when they announced a hiatus in 2015.

Though we'd love to see some new music from the group, we are remaining sceptical – each of the boys have done very well for themselves since their break.

It's almost time for the second royal wedding of the year!

Earlier this year Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Eugenie was  engaged to her boyfriend of eight years Jack Brooksbank, The couple reportedly met in Verbier, Switzerland in 2010.

A statement from the palace said: "The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Eugenie to Mr Jack Brooksbank. Her Royal Highness and Mr Brooksbank became engaged in Nicaragua earlier this month."

When is the wedding – and where?

The wedding is on Friday, October 12th and the couple's choice of venue is the same as that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle –  St George's Chapel in Windsor.

Will it be traditional?

Not exactly, if reports are anything to go by.

New reports are emerging that the nuptials will be a "two-day celebration with a funfair-themed party" which is a break from the traditional royal wedding that we've seen before.

If rumours are to be believed, it would appear that the couple has gone down the same route as David and Victoria Beckham by hiring the same party planners as they had for their wedding bash in 1999.  In another break with tradition, while Royal weddings are usually a one-day event, Eugenie and Jack are reportedly planning a second-day event for the Saturday which will have the funfair.

And in a modern twist, Princess Eugenie proudly announced that her and her fiancée, Jack Brooksbank, are making it a priority to have an eco-friendly event.

Any other details?

It has been reported that some of the bridal party have been decided on.  While some, like Princess Charlotte, are unsurprising others include Teddy, four, who is the daughter of Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field.

Details have also surfaced about the Princess' dress. it's very likely that Eugenie will be wearing a dress by one of her favourite designers Erdem, if reports are anything to go by. Eugenie has already revealed that she has chosen a British-based designer, and speaking on the One Show following her engagement, the royal gave a hint about what sort of dress she'd like to wear. When asked if she would prefer a meringue or straight gown, she replied: "Maybe a mix of both. Can you do that? Is there such a thing? No meringue shoulders – that's a little bit out of fashion – maybe it's in fashion now? We'll see what happens."

Will the wedding be televised?

We can't wait to see it all happen!
