Love Island has gotten a lot of slagging for being a vapid show about generically beautiful Instagram models riding in the sun.

However, the girls of the group took to discussing one of the biggest political issues of our time last night – so Love Island nay sayers, buckle up.

In last night's hour-long episode, student Georgia asked the girls what they thought of Brexit, before model Hayley raised some eyebrows by admitting that she had no idea what Brexit was.

Georgia gave a good go of trying to explain the concept of the European Union to Hayley, saying: ''It would mean welfare, and things we trade with would be cut down.'

However, Hayley became more confused, replying: 'So that does that mean we won't have any trees?'

Adding more confusion to the whole thing,. another one of the girls, thought Hayley said cheese rather than trees.

However, the seriousness of the Brexit situation was grasped when the girls discussed the possibility that no longer being part of the EU could make international travel more difficult.

'So it would be harder to go on holidays? Oh I love my holidays,' Hayley said.

Twitter has been taking the absolute piss out of the girls for their conversation, Hayley in particular, so I doubt they'll be living that viral clip down any time soon.

While many influencers get slack these days for contacting brands for sponsorship, companies can also end up looking foolish in their pursuit for a collaboration.

This is evident in a recent tweet post from YouTuber Charlotte Rollin.

Charlotte was contacted by a chocolate-based diet company (seems legit…) to see if she would be interested in working with them.

A post shared by Charlotte Rollin (@_charlottesweb) on

The influencer previously suffered from an eating disorder, making the potential collab pretty inappropriate for Charlotte's audience.

If the brand had done any research into her content, they probably would have known this.

The 20-year-old content creator essentially told the brand where they could shove their collaboration request, in a manner that would have had us shook.

Charlotte posted screen grabs oif the email she sent them, and frankly, we dont think she could have said it better.

'It is quite apparent to me that you have not taken the time to look at my previous social media posts or even have an idea of the type of the content I create, as if you had, you would most likely be aware that I in fact have suffered with anorexia for the past 5 years.'

'I therefore would, under no circumstances, even consider promoting a diet or detox drink on my social channels, which many follow as they also suffer from mental health issues and use as a reassurance that they are not alone in these struggles,' she continued.

A post shared by THE CHOCO DIET (@thechocodiet) on

'I find the nature of your product to be damaging, and I know for a fact that these shakes are not a healthy way to lose weight, even for those that have a genuine, non-disordered desire to do so.'

Hear, hear Charlotte!

This is definitely a moment to take note of for brands.

Let's be honest, it is very unlikely if you had a bit too much to drink last night that you will take the time to chop some fresh vegetables and make a green salad for breakfast – if you do, please let yourself known, we want to know your secret!

But if you want to feel better while getting some real tasty food in your mouth, we have the recipe you need, courtesy of The Happy Pear. And the good news is, it it vegan and it only takes 15 minutes to make.

You are welcome.

Breakfast burrito

Ingredients

For the guacamole

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • juice of 1 lime
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • a pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • 10 cherry tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon chilli flakes
  • a small bunch of fresh coriander

For the mushrooms with spinach

  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 150g oyster mushrooms, or other mushrooms
  • 1–2 tablespoons oil
  • 3 tablespoons tamari/soy sauce
  • a good handful of fresh baby spinach

To assemble

  • 2 x 400g tins of baked beans
  • 4 wholemeal tortilla wraps

Method

1. Start by making the guacamole. Peel and de-stone the avocados and chop the flesh into small pieces. Put into a bowl with the lime juice, salt and black pepper.

Chop the cherry tomatoes in half and add, along with the cumin and chilli flakes. Mash with a fork until the avocado breaks up and comes together. Finely chop the coriander (including the stalks) and add. Mix, taste and adjust the seasoning if you think it needs it.

2. Peel and finely chop the garlic and roughly chop the mushrooms. Put the oil into a medium pan on a high heat and leave to heat up. Add the garlic and mushrooms and cook for 1 minute, stirring regularly.

Add the tamari and cook for a further 2 minutes. Add the spinach and cook for a further minute, until it wilts right down. Remove from the heat.

3. Put the baked beans into a pan and heat up on a medium heat, stirring occasionally.

4. Now it’s time to roll up your breakfast burritos. Lay out one of your wraps, then, in line along the middle of the wrap, spoon on a few tablespoons of beans, some guacamole and some mushrooms, leaving lots of wrap on either side.

To roll your burrito, start by folding both ends in, then roll lengthways. Fold the other end of the wrap over or under, while tucking in both ends as you do so. Eat as it is, or put back into the pan for a minute to crisp up the outside. Make the rest of your burritos the same way.

The Happy Pear twins are back with a new book, packed with affordable, quick and easy veggie options, as well as clever meat-free versions of popular favourites and inspiring advice on how to be healthier!

This week, it was announce that Miss America will be abolishing their swimsuit section.

Gretchen Carlson announced that the move is first step to bringing the competition up to date.

However, not everyone agreed with the move, including our own Miss Universe Ireland Cailín Áine Ní Toibín.

The Cork native represented Ireland in the Miss Universe competition in 2017, and placed in the top 16 contestants.

'I have debated writing about this since I found out that Miss America will be taking out the bikini portion of their competition because I was so confused as to why would they do that and wanted to curate an honest opinion. In all the times I have had to wear a bikini for a shoot or on stage I have not once felt sexualised,' the model and pageant enthusiast wrote on her Instagram.

'I have felt confident, strong, beautiful and empowered! I as a woman shouldn’t have to feel ashamed of my body and whether I want to wear something fully covered or a regular bikini I shouldn’t have to feel ashamed or judged for what I want to wear. I feel the days of the bikini section objectifying women is outdated, women today want to embrace their bodies on stage and feel strong and empowered when stepping on stage because of the hard work they have put into their fitness and health.'

'Who ever said you can’t be sexy and intelligent? I feel that removing the bikini section from Miss America is one I don’t understand as a pageant perspective but Miss America has always stated they are a scholarship program NOT a pageant therefore they have different values, focus and goals for the women who compete.'

'I personally don’t follow Miss America as much a I do Miss Universe but I feel that if it is in line with their core values to take out he bikini portion than so be it.'

'They are evolving as a new brand and with a new board of management I feel they need to figure out what is the new Era of Miss America and this is one of their new ventures.'

'Lastly I feel that regardless of what we wear on our bodies we are INTELLIGENT, STRONG and AMAZING women! We need to end shaming women for how they want to be perceived.'

Back in November, Cailin also hailed the bikini section as a segment that celebrates diversity and confidence.

'So many people criticise the bikini section of a pageant and say it’s “old fashioned” I don’t think so not even remotely,' she wrote at the time.

'Bikini isn’t judged on your physique it’s judged on confidence and how you are in your own body regardless of your shape or size it’s about being confidently beautiful no matter how you step on stage. Not one single woman in @missuniverse was the same shape, size or nationality as another and to me it is amazing to step on stage and be so proud of my body and how hard I’ve worked to understand it as a whole.'

'I am comfortable with all my lumps, bumps and scars and so should everyone else when it comes to their body, it is so revitalising to show the world I am who I am regardless of what I’m wearing.'

Last month, Ireland voted to repeal the 8th amendment to our constitution which makes abortion in this country illegal.

Since the referendum vote, the Government has been debating and discussing the best ways to introduce the full spectrum of reproductive rights into our health care system.

However, one retired priest and author of God Sense or Nonsense Fr Con McGillicuddy took to pen to paper to detail how he felt that mother and baby homes should be reintroduced as the alternative to abortion in Ireland.

A letter sent in to and printed by The Kerryman local newspaper was photographed and shared on Twitter

'As an alternative to this recurring problem may I suggest that the Department of Health provide an alternative to abortion. It could do so in this affluent age by providing assistance to the women so afflicted – like finance as well as medical and psychological aid.'

'In bygone years a cash-strapped government relied heavily on nuns to labour in mother and baby homes on frugal subsidies to care for mothers and their infants. Health standards were very sub-standard then, resulting in high mortality rates for infants and mothers.'

'The Department of Health could now provide mother and baby homes, with all services included, emphasis on privacy for the women, or provide services for the women who opt to live on their own.'

'When their babies are born, the choice would be to retain their babies or place them for adoption.'

'A practical and beneficial spin-off would be that infertile couples could adopt 'unwanted' babies in Ireland, sparing them the ordeal of travelling abroad and having to cope with intricate legal restrictions.'

'Politicians should consider and debate this alternative, as our government seems to be completely fixed on abortion.'

His letter has caused uproar on Twitter, with many hoping that the piece is a work of satire.

However, Fr McGillicuddy is known to spend his spare time penning letters to newspapers in a bid to 'uphold the Catholic faith.'

'It’s like going back in time reading the letter! Decades of abuse – physical, mental, sexual and deplorable treatment of women and babies,' one Twitter user wrote.

This week, the survivors of the Magdalene Laundries united in Dublin to be honoured at Áras an Uachtarán and the Mansion House.

Many of the over-200 survivors, now aged in their 80s, faced brutal, horrendous treatment at the institutions.

'The treatment of vulnerable citizens in our industrial and reformatory schools, in the Magdalene Laundries and in Mother and Baby Homes represents a deep stain on Ireland’s past, a stain we can only regard today with great shame, profound regret and horror,' President Michael D Higgins told the women.

'It is sobering to consider that many women were also victims of the cruel and degrading regimes of Industrial or Reformatory Schools before being referred to the Laundries, and so many were intimidated into a silence by the abuse of authority of one kind or another,' he said, according to The Journal.

'Ireland failed you. When you were vulnerable and in need of the support of Irish society and its institutions, its authorities did not cherish you, protect you, respect your dignity or meet your needs and so many in the wider society colluded with their silence.'

Many have called for the suffering of those in mother and baby homes and other Catholic institutions be commemorated historically in a museum.

Ok, so at this stage we know that Post Malone is no stranger to unusual body art – but his latest face tattoo might just be the most bizarre yet.

This week, the rapper debuted a new piece of ink that manages to be both outrageously obnoxious and extremely relatable at the same time.

A post shared by Chad Rowe (@chadrowetattoos) on

Yep. Those are the words 'Always Tired' tattooed under his eyes – and honestly Post, we get it.

In fact, the message seems to have struck a cord with many fans, with one Twitter user even admitting that while he thought the tattoo was "positively ghastly", he wholeheartedly agreed with the sentiment.

Chad Rowe, the artist tasked with tattooing Post Malone and his crew, described the experience as "one of the most surreal moments of my entire life."

"I had the absolute honor to tattoo @postmalone and his crew, and even had the man himself TATTOO MY HAND," he wrote.

"I really don't even know how to explain the entire situation. So if you want to hear the story message me to book your next tattoo or come into the shop.

"Thanks again to everyone in the Post tour. I love you guys . And thank you to everyone who follows me in my journey. You make this possible. This is life-changing."
