Yearly Archives: 2016

Michella Obama and Kate Middleton are two of the most stunning, smart and elegant women we've ever come across, so it's safe to say we ALL want their beauty secrets.

Well, the FLOTUS has spilled the beans on the advice that Kate gave her earlier this year.

According to Michelle's make-up artist, Carl Ray, Kate recommended Biotulin Supreme Skin Gel, which is a non-injectable, organic Botox for your face.

Carl told Celebrity Style: "Michelle Obama has been using this organic Botox gel regularly on the recommendation of Kate Middleton."

"The effect is unbelievable. This gel contains spilanthol, a biological local anesthetic that is derived from the extract of the plant Acmella oleracea.

"Biotulin, as this gel is called, smoothes wrinkles within just an hour."

One hour?! We're definitely on board!

If there's one thing that Bruno Mars won't accept, it's accusations that he lip-syncs when he takes to the stage to perform.

After appearing on X Factor last month, the Locked Out of Heaven singer was subject to criticism that he had mimed 24K Magic – something which he adamantly denied during an interview with NME this week.

Sounding pretty outraged by the speculation, Bruno said he can take most things that are thrown at him over the course of his career, but he won't let this one slide.

“I was reading something about me miming. Which is… well, you can say anything you want about me or my music, or make any kind of joke you want, but that to me is like, well, I’m going to get extremely insulted.”

Reflecting on the rumours that circulated following his X Factor performance, Bruno sounded genuinely insulted by the public's perception of  his performance.

"You have no idea how hard we rehearse. Just seeing that, it blew me away. Like, ‘What are they seeing? What do you mean!?" he asked.

The singer, who is due to play Dublin next year, insisted that the idea of lip-syncing is not something he would ever accept from himself or anyone else.

"Never! I’ve never lip-synced. I could have a 150-degree fever and I’ll still be up there, singing live. That’s our profession. That’s what we do.” he finished.

Right, now let that be the end of it…

When it comes to the Kardashian / Jenner sisters, there's absolutely no doubting that Kendall is the most enigmatic.

Admittedly quite shy, 21-year-old Kendall doesn't tend to share as much as her siblings either online or through interview, so we were fairly stunned that she decided to take part in Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.

The notorious Late Late Show segment is James Corden's method of getting his guests to reveal as much as possible, and in fairness to Kendall she actually played ball… for the most part.

While she decided to drink bird saliva rather reveal who her least favourite member of Taylor's squad is, the model did admit that when it comes to her nieces and nephew's names, she definitely has a least favourite.

Oh, and when it came to ratting Kylie out? Kris actually INSISTED her daughter down some clam juice and stay loyal to the Kardashian family values…

Fair play, Kendall.

At this stage, a good 50 percent of articles online are telling us that we've all been doing basic tasks wrong our whole lives and pronouncing words incorrectly, too.

Let's be honest, most of it is BS, but this one has taken us by surprise.

You're not alone if you were a major fan of Roald Dahl's books when you were a kid, but apparently, we've been pronouncing his name wrong for years.

His name is Norwegian, and for fans that have been saying Ronald like 'Row-ald' or 'Roh-ld', it couldn't be more different.

In a video that has surfaced online from 1961, Roald is seen hosting a TV show called Way Out, and in the intro his name is said like this:

Surprised? It's actually pronounced 'Roo-al'.

The author was born in Cardiff, Wales, to Norwegian parents, however, both ways of saying his name have been accepted over time.

The Daily Record reports that the University Of Glasgow is offering a new course called ‘D’oh! The Simpsons Introduce Philosophy’, taught by university tutor and philosophy fanatic John Donaldson.

"Matt Groening, the man behind The Simpsons, was a student of philosophy, and that comes through in each episode" Professor Donaldson told the Daily Mail.

"The Simpsons is a very sophisticated work of popular culture, with a broad scope and depth, and is full of philosophical themes."

The day course, which is scheduled for January 14, costs €35, and offers it's students a masters doh'gree in The Simpsons philosophy on completion.

The news of the course comes after The Simpsons essentially broke the internet when it came to light that they had predicted the presidency of Donald Trump, along with predicting the spread of the Ebola virus and 9/11.

"Post-truth" has been named as Oxford Dictionaries' word of the year.

The word saw a major spike in use in the wake of the Brexit vote and Donald Trump's presidential bid.

The adjective describes circumstances, usually political, where emotions win over facts and structured reason.

The word soared in use by around 2,000% since last year, the Oxford Dictionary said.

According to the BBC, Oxford Dictionaries' Casper Grathwohl said post-truth could become "one of the defining words of our time".

The word is a far cry from the 2015 word of the year, which was the laughing face emoji.

How times have changed.

"Post-truth" beat out words such as "adulting", "Brexiteer" and "woke" to claim the top spot.

Danish word "hygge", was also a front runner, which describes a distinct Danish cosiness and contentment.

Collins Dictionary named "Brexit" as it's word of the year, with "mic drop", "snowflake generation" and "JOMO" (the joy of missing out) making special appearances.

From growing up in Dundalk – to living in New York and being compared to Irina Shayk and Megan Fox (there is definitely a similarity), Sarah Tansey is one of Ireland's most successful models.

Sarah Tansey

And if her name isn’t familiar (or isn't familiar just yet), her gorgeous face certainly is: she has appeared on the cover and on the pages of major glossy magazines at home and abroad, as well as in high-profile fashion campaigns across the globe.

Indeed, her Savida for Dunnes Stores range campaign is nothing short of a nationwide head-turner.

Sarah Tansey

More than just a pretty face, the 28-year-old brunette is also a qualified pharmacist – having studied at and graduated from the Royal College Of Surgeons in Dublin.

Sarah exclusively told us that education was extremely important to her while growing up; “I was very focused on my academics all through my teens and getting enough points in the Leaving Cert for pharmacy was a priority."

Still, having not embraced the world of modelling until the grand old age of 21, Sarah admits she was a relative late-comer to the catwalk game.

“In the fashion industry 21 is considered quite old but for me, I think it was the right time” she now reflects in an exclusive chat with SHEmazing!, adding that she spent her time on shoots when she wasn’t in lecture theatres and labs.

The 5ft 8in beauty adds: “I got into modelling through acting; my mum and I have always shared a love of theatre. Be it performing, working backstage/front of house or being in the audience we were always involved in something with local theatre/musical groups in Dundalk.”

Since starting her modelling career seven years ago, Sarah has been through a world wind of success and travel.

Highlighting her favourite moments, Sarah told us: "I think signing with Wilhelmina Models and moving to New York was the most exciting. Signing with Models1 in London and moving there was another thing I never thought would happen."

Sarah also told us about the highs and lows of the modelling world, citing the quirky locations and amazing clothes as some of the best bits of her job; "although it is a job, there are some really unique experiences that come with it."

When we asked Sarah what the future holds, she simply said that she's enjoying life and is "open to seeing what comes along."

Keep killing it girl!

Whether you've endured your own one or witnessed someone else's, awkward dates are not something any of us are strangers to.

So, when one woman happened to overhear a conversation taking place between a couple on their first date, she felt compelled to share the awkward with everyone.

(If she was going down, she was taking us with her, basically.)

And Twitter is having a field day.

We'll let Kelly Fine take it from here.

The Stone Leaf on Lower Leeson Street has announced that, if Ireland win, pints are on the house.

If the boys in green are victorious, the bar will hand out free booze for a full hour. Handy, yes?

But be sure to book a table, as it'll probably be bursting out the door with people.

And what's more? Fans can continue to celebrate late into the night in The Amber Rooms which is in the basement of The Stone Leaf.

Well, we know where we'll be this weekend.

There are days when fitness bloggers inspire us to work out and there are days when their perfectly sculpted pictures appear anything but achievable.

This week, fitness guru Ashlie Molstad achieved widespread Internet fame when she challenged this perception of unattainability by revealing the difference posing can make to an Instagrammer’s physique.

Placing an image of herself standing upright while tensing her muscles alongside a photo in which she is sitting in a relaxed position, the 31-year-old perfectly demonstrated how one body can shift from sculpted to seemingly untoned because of differing angles, even when dressed in the same clothes.

In the accompanying caption, Ashlie (or @FoodieGirlFitness) pledged that her followers will always be shown both her “posed, put together, professional side” and her “not so flattering sides”.

“Contrary to what society has taught us to think, our worth isn't measured by how many belly rolls we have, or how many dimples on our booty, or how much jiggle hangs out on our arms,” she wrote.

“Loving ourselves exactly as we are is hard.  Because we've been told for years that we're not good enough until we {insert any of the thousands of ideas of perfection that has been fed to us over the years}.”

“But I call BS.  I say that the real magic happens when we embrace who we are, at every angle and size.”

Demonstrating that the Internet cannot get enough of the authenticity it is so commonly criticised for lacking, Ashlie’s post has been liked 164,000 times since it was uploaded on Friday.

Among the post’s 9,000 comments, one inspired follower wrote: “This is exactly what young girls need to see!  And even at 25 I needed this reality check.  Thank you so much for being brave enough and posting this.”
