Yearly Archives: 2016

Long before the new look Toblerone sent social media into meltdown, the folk over at Nestlé revealed that they would be replacing Quality Street's Toffee Deluxe with a Honeycomb Crunch.

"We wanted to celebrate Quality Street’s 80th birthday by introducing the first new sweet for nearly a decade," they explained back in September.

"We did extensive research and found that the Honeycomb Crunch was the most popular option for a new sweet and that many people felt there were enough toffee based sweets in the collection so the Toffee Deluxe made way."

Twitter, unsurprisingly, wasted no time venting their anger over the decision with like-minded chocoholics who couldn't fathom a festive season without a mouthful of toffee.

And while the good folk behind the Quality Street sweet have actually agreed to include the chocolate one last time this Christmas, the Twitosphere still isn't having it.

Basically, if they can't have it all year round, they don't want it at all.

The following is an extract from Peter Varga's Humans of Dublin.

Drawn from the archives of the incredibly popular online blog, Peter Varga's Humans of Dublin gives a voice to the people of our capital city.

A collection of portraits, memories and snapshots, Humans of Dublin provides a thought-provoking insight into the Irish capital and its vibrant and diverse inhabitants.

Pictured above is Aoife who shares her story of bereavement and reconcilIation.

Two years ago my mam passed away suddenly, just a couple of days after her 45th birthday.

The last thing she said was, ‘Night, Aoife, love you,’ and by the time I got downstairs to say goodnight she was struggling to breathe. I remember just feeling numb and afraid.

I’ve always used my work as a coping mechanism, and I don’t think it’s fully hit me yet, as all my energy has gone into my work.

Being an illustrator has become a full-time job now. I finished college in June just gone and had a lot more free time on my hands to think about everything, which was tough because I always pushed my feelings to the side.

After having time to think, I made the decision to set out for my biological father one last time. I had been looking for 17 years with only his name to go on, so I decided to contact an agency to find him, and they did!

I travelled to the UK with family and I got to meet him for the first time in my life. As soon as I saw him, I knew it was him. We had the exact same eyes and smile, and were both lost for words, so just hugged for ages.

We got on great and spent the day together sharing stories and catching up. Leaving was really tough, though – he had explained to me he has a problem with drink.

Hopefully us getting in touch will give him the strength he needs to get help. It’s the beginning of a new chapter for the both of us.

Peter's Vagra's Humans of Dublin is available to buy now.

The Kardashian family are known for their penchant for luxurious designer goods, and real furs are a staple in the famous family' collective wardrobe.

Kourtney, Khloe and momager Kris were targeted by an anti-fur rally as they attended the Angel ball in New York last night.

The reality TV super stars have regularly been criticised by anti-fur lobbyists and animal rights group PETA in the past.

The protesters shouted "how many animals have to die you pieces of s***," and particularly targeted Khloe, as they screamed "shame on you Khloe Kardashian."

Protesters also held up signs that read: "Kardashian fur scum," "'F*** fur" and "stop wearing fur! Fur = violence."

This is not the first time the Kardashian family have been the focus of an animal rights group.

Back in 2015, Kim was confronted by a group of protesters in New York at a book signing for her pictorial tome, Selfish.

In 2012, Kim was flour bombed on the red carpet by a suspected PETA activist.

Khloe publicly withdrew her support for PETA back in 2012, citing at the time that she could no longer support an organisation that condoned "bullying."

Lindsay Lohan may have forfeited her Mean Girls crown over 12 years ago, but the troubled actress seems to by paying homage to Katy Heron with her latest social media comment.

Ariana Grande was clearly loving her look on the set of Hairspray when she snapped this selfie with co-star Dove Cameron.

However, Lindsay was far from impressed with the young singer-turned-actress.

30-year-old Lindsay took to the comments section to tell the songstress that she wears "too much make up."

The star was wearing a pink and black cat eye and pale pink lipstick, similar to her usual classic make up look.

To make sure she got her point across, the Freaky Friday actress also commented on two other snaps of the singer to reiterate her point.

Ariana fans have gone en masse to Lindsay's Instagram page, bombarding her page with comments like "too much crack," "too much botox," and "too much surgery."

While the fans are engaged in a war of words, both stars have remained silent on the issue so far.

Lindsay recently caused an internet frenzy after a video of her speaking outside a Greek nightclub revealed that she's adopted a brand new accent.

From unicorn makeup brushes to unicorn beanie hats, the mythical equine characters are certainly having a moment.

Our most recent obsession? Unicorn nail art.

The magical trend is taking over Instagram, with the site boasting almost 15,000 tagged snaps of pink, sparkly fabled fingertips.

The look involves creating a feature nail with a raised spiral design, just like a unicorn horn, before layering on the glitter and pastels.

These nails are the perfect remedy to winter's dark and subdued nail shades.

The results include an amazing set of envy-evoking nails and an influx of Instagram likes – what's not to love?

We're dying to try the trend.

Christmas is a-coming, which of course means love, togetherness and busting a hole in our debit cards with a spot of online shopping.

And talking of online shopping, we’ve all been there: that feeling of blood-run-cold fear when you realise your dream dress doesn’t ship from the UK – even though you’ve committed to it, you’ve imagined yourself as a new woman in The Dress, your life NEEDS this dress.

Noooo!

So of course you desperately try to remember if you know someone living in the UK, in the vain hope you can get it delivered to their gaff.

Well ladies, consider this cruelty a thing of the past with the brilliant new service AddressPal from An Post.

AddressPal basically becomes a UK address for you, so you can get stuff delivered to Ireland. You simply sign up, and AddressPal will post you a card printed with your unique address. You then grab the unique address and pop it into the address form when paying for your item.

Your package is then delivered to your chosen Post Office in three to four working days – for you to collect within five days.

Genius, right?

And if you thought this service was going to cost you an arm and a leg you would be wrong, because all packages under 20kg (and 72cm X 31cm X 25cm) are just €3.50 to deliver.

Oh, and even if the online store does deliver to Ireland, AddressPal is a nifty way to avoid paying the more expensive European or Irish delivery fee. Yeow!

Victoria's Secret was lauded in recent weeks after they released images of a model whose stretch marks hadn't been digitally removed.

And while the general public applauded the brand's decision to showcase women with the same physicalities as the rest of us, that doesn't mean everyone is as impressed by their own tiger stripes as they are Jasmine Tookes.

So, it's no real surprise that a tattoo artist who manages to conceal stretch marks with the help of a tattoo needle is currently blowing up Instagram.

Rodolpho Torres from São Paulo amassed a following of more than 1.2 million after he began uploading footage which documented his approach to stretch mark 'removal'.

As stretch marks are physical evidence the skin has been stretched due to weight gain, weight loss or pregnancy, Rodolpho can't magically remove them but instead matches his ink to his client's skintone before filling in the contours.

And while Instagram users may be fascinated by Rodolpho's technique, a dermotologist named Dr Doris Day has warned the public that this particular approach is not without its risks.

"The risk is, if a tattoo is done by someone who doesn't understand how to treat skin, you can end up with a scar, and a potentially worse problem, especially in an area that's already thinner and missing some of the essential elements of skin," she explained.

Something tells us his 1.2 million followers won't be deterred.

However, while she was coy about revealing her son's name after his birth, the Hello singer did open up about motherhood before saying that while it is tough it is "the greatest thing [she] ever did"

Just two months ago rumours started to circulate that she would take a 10 year hiatus from touring to spend time with her son.
