Monthly Archives: August 2015

Last Monday, US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel hosted a private stag do for the then Mr Jen Aniston-to-be, Justin Theroux.

And to keep things super private, 47-year-old Jimmy held the party in his own West Hollywood home, with Justin and the rest of his stag squad joining marking the occassion in the spectacular barn-themed bar of Jimmy's house.

However, while Mr Kimmel hosted the stag do, he did not fill in as Justin's best man: that honour instead went to tattoo artist Scott Campbell.

Unsurprisingly, BFF Courteney Cox was Jennifer's maid of honour.

The now married couple went to great lengths to keep their wedding ceremony a private affair. They even scrapped their original plans of getting married abroad for added security.

A source told New York Post's Page Six column: "Jennifer and Justin have been planning an August wedding, but it was very, very top secret. They had talked about getting married abroad, but decided on their home for privacy while allowing their closest friends to be there".

As they got married in their Bel Air home they were surrounded by famous guests such as Emily Blunt, Chelsea Handler and Ellen DeGeneres.

The couple have now travelled to the Pacific island nation of Bora Bora for their honeymoon.

We wish all the best for the newlyweds!

Taylor Swift and Lucky 13 potentially have a nasty court battle on their hands.

The founder of the fashion retailer claims that Ms Swift, 25, copied its trademark look onto a collection of cotton t-shirts sold by the singer.

Tay-Tay's lawyer tried to fight the hearing, saying that there is no way the singer could attend in person as it would impact on her massive 1989 world tour. They also claimed that Lucky 13 has been "harassing" her in recent months.

But the judge seems not to be on Taylor's side on this occassion: he ruled that the musician has no choice but to attend the hearing. She now has up to a week to confirm a convenient time.

The Californian judge explained: "Swift's schedule is not a basis for a protective order prohibiting her deposition testimony altogether. There is no evidence in the record to show that the plaintiffs have been inconsiderate of Swift's schedule.

"To the contrary, the record shows just the opposite. Nor does the evidence suggest that plaintiffs have sandbagged Swift's deposition to coincide with her world tour."

Well, we hope this all gets sorted soon!

Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Ryan Seacrest… Kim Kardashian has had some pretty epic celeb selfies in the last few months alone, but we reckon this is her best yet.

The reality star was at a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton's presidential race last night, and managed to nab a photo with the Democratic candidate herself. Barely managing to fit herself in the frame as Kanye stuck his head in the background, Kim took a quick selfie with Hillary to share with her 41.8m Instagram followers.

"I got my selfie!!! I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country! #HillaryForPresident" Kim captioned the photo of the famous trio.

The selfie wasn't too much of a surprise though, as Kim had let fans know earlier in the evening that she was hoping to snap a quick picture with presidential hopeful Hillary. "Excited to be meeting our next President tonight!! Maybe she'll take a selfie with me!" Kim wrote en route to the house of Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun, where the fundraising event was taking place.

Kim's mum Kris also got a quick photo with Hillary… this time with no Kanye photobombs.

"An Honor to meet you Hillary Clinton! Great evening… #ohjustchatting" the 59-year-old momager wrote on Instagram.

Other celebrity guests in attendance along with Kim and her crew included Jessica Alba, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson. Usher, pictured here with Scooter, also showed up for the big night.

Friday is a day for flashback moments and this one is guaranteed to be your favourite so far. Coming along to absolute destroy everyone with feelings this week is Alexandrea Owens-Sarno.

You may also remember her as Jack Dawson’s “best girl” and his second-best dance partner. Now in her 20s, Alexandrea was the child actor who stole hearts and a smile from Hollywood actor Leonardo Dicaprio when she bagged a role in block buster Titanic.

Buzzfeed caught up with the actress, who lives and works in L.A to ask her some very important questions, her answers did not disappoint.

Most notably, she also believes that both Jack and Rose could fit on the door frame.

She has also admitted in an interview with Cosmopolitan that her friends were big fans of doing the obligatory ‘then and now’ comparison any time Titanic was on TV.

“My friends asked me to stand next to the television while we were watching it so that they could compare how I look now as opposed to then.”

Another important fact we needed to know; can she still do that fabulous Irish jig?

“I think if I watched and really just dedicated time to relearning it, maybe I could do it. But you also can't do it by yourself. When you're getting, like, twirled around by Leonardo DiCaprio, you just go with the moment.”

Well, we think if Leo asked any of us to dance our moves would certainly become a little bit more inspired in the spirit of the moment.

Speaking of which, Alexandrea let everyone know that Leo was just as much of a heart throb as we wanted him to be:

“There was so much of Jack in Leo, definitely. He was very sweet; he was very goofy, absolutely adorable. He always had a smile on his face, it was great.”

She said that while she wasn’t really aware of how much of a hit Leo was with the ladies back then, she still considered him one of her BFFs. She even invited him to go trick-or-treating with her.

Unfortunately it never came to pass, but Alexandrea is still waiting for the moment he shows up on her doorstep:

“He'll be like, "You've been waiting for this for almost 20 years!"

Back in 2012, SeaWorld was a thriving theme park company with annual revenue totalling hundreds of millions. Now, three years on, it is struggling to stay afloat as attendance plummets and profits drop by 84% in a three-month period.

The main reason? A controversial 2013 documentary called Blackfish, which outed SeaWorld for cruel treatment of its orca whales. Blackfish alleged that the sustained bad practices contributed to the death of three people.

Accusations of bad treatment include claims that a number of calf whales were separated from their mother and sent to other parks while still dependent, that the whales were deprived of food to ensure they performed tricks on cue, and that they were drugged to keep them stable when angry or anxious in captivity.

In one particular incident, an experienced female trainer at SeaWorld Orlando, Dawn Brancheau, was killed by killer whale Tilikum after a show in the park's famous Shamu Stadium. On another occasion trainer Ken Peters was almost killed by dominant female orca Kasatka when she repeatedly dragged him down to the bottom of the pool during a show by holding his foot in her mouth.

Luckily he survived, and his testimony featured in the 2013 documentary.

The company has three parks in the US – one in Orlando, Florida, one in San Diego, California and one in San Antonio, Texas.

As well as the drop in attendance, SeaWorld's operational costs have soared in recent years following a huge PR and damage control campaign. Sea World CEO Joel Manby blamed the drop in profits on bad weather conditions and what he called "continued brand challenges."

Speaking about the company's "reputational" campaign, he said, "We recognise that fully resolving our brand challenges in California will require sustained focus and commitment to correct misinformation."

Preparing for your driving test can be a most stressful time, that’s a well-known fact. There’s a lot of pressure building up to that all important day.

One thing you probably don’t realise if you’re attempting to get your hands on one of those all-important pink licences is that the stress can take its toll on your nearest and dearest too.

Which is apparently exactly what happened yesterday to one unfortunate soul.

According to a report in the Irish Daily Star, an incident involving a man and his female relative required Gardaí to arrive and diffuse the situation.

A source told the paper the man “went ballistic and arrived up at the driving test centre, where he issued threats to staff.”

The young woman had left the centre without any fuss after failing her test and apparently it all kicked off when she told the man her unfortunate results.

“The threats were fairly heavy, as the staff were frightened by them and immediately rang the gardai."

The particular centre in Tallaght is actually one of the busiest in the country. The waiting list there is reported to be 11 weeks long. Well, we understand it can be a bit of a pain playing chauffeur to your family and friends but this takes it to a whole new level.

The Independent reports that after the gardai were called the man then left the centre, but not before causing a serious scene.

Following his disturbance the centre was forced to cancel any tests yet to be taken on the day. So therefore creating more delays for anyone waiting to retake their test? Not a good start to the weekend for some unlucky Dubliners.

In one of her latest Instagram posts Nicki Minaj can be heard calling out a man trying to sell fake Minaj merchandise.

Consider this a fair warning to anyone out there with a few extra concerts t-shirts knocking around. If they have Nicki’s face on them then you better hope they are the real deal. She does not take this kind of thing lightly it seems.

The non-nonsense Anaconda singer does not approve of this man’s attempts to earn some cash by selling fake T-shirts with her image on them outside her concerts.

Earlier today she posted the video of the man holding several of her Pinkprint album tour t-shirts while standing on the side of a road.

The 32-year old asks the man what he thinks he’s doing with the fake merchandise and goes on to enquire a little further while she’s at it.

Can I have a shirt? When u drive past a person selling your stolen t-shirts on the highway. #ThePinkprintTOUR

A video posted by Nicki Minaj (@nickiminaj) on

“Can I have a shirt? Where did you get those shirts, sir?”

Clearly he was not expecting to pump into the hip-hop star, naturally his next move was to whip out his phone to record the whole incident.

The icing on the cake was that fact that not only did a car of screaming and crying Nicki fans drive past seconds later, but apparently the man then posted his snap of the incident on line shortly after.

Ah the glorious freedom that is moving away from home.

Whether you’re heading off to college or just finally managed to figure out how to fund both rent and your wardrobe essentials, there’s nothing quite like that first big move.

If you are in fact heading off to embrace the college experience and find yourself wondering what will happen on the big move-in day, here’s a little break down. Fair warning: sometimes Hollywood lies to us and it’s not all amazing parties and tanning on the roof, this is real life and someone will have to hoover eventually…

Disney, Super Mario, Adventure Time and of course Superman, Batman and co… when it comes to big kids' toys, we just can't help ourselves sometimes.

So we were chuffed to hear about a new store opening in Dublin, catering to city centre shoppers of all ages who are looking for something a little different. Ireland's first Zing Pop Culture store will open this Saturday August 8th at 16 Henry St, on the first floor of Game Stop, selling toys, retro merchandise, collectibles, clothing and much more.

SHEmazing! stopped by for a sneak preview yesterday and of course hung out with a few of the "staff members" like this Star Wars Stormtrooper who simply refused to say "cheese":

A recent UK survey showed that women have overtaken men as the most prolific gamers for the first time, with females accounting for 52% of people playing any form of video games last year.

However the store doesn't just cater to those with an interest in gaming – if you're keen for a dose of nostalgia or just want to pick up a gift with a difference, you'll be in heaven here.

Head buyer Emma O'Nolan filled us in on what it's like to have the dream job of selecting what new pieces to buy in each season. From the Minions to Game of Thrones, we'd be pretty happy if we got to check out new toys all day too.

Emma's personal favourite item in the new store? The plush Anger teddy from Disney's Inside Out, which she's already planning to go see in the cinema a second time.

MD of Game Stop for Northern Europe Niall Lawlor says the new Zing Pop Culture venture could be the first of many for Ireland… and Europe. "We started with Henry St, as the Game Stop here is one of our most successful stores, and we will probably open one in Cork as well in the near future," he explained.

"Eventually we hope to roll the Zing Pop Culture name out across Europe."

Zing Pop Culture might be new to these shores but it's already a hugely successful chain in Australia, where there are 400 Game Stop stores and a large number of standalone Zing Pop branches too.

If you're interested in checking out what's on offer, head along to Zing Pop Culture's Grand Opening tomorrow August 8th from 11am where Darth Vader himself will be on hand to welcome everyone for an in-store breakfast. Plus there'll be a €25 voucher for the first 40 customers… and lots of prizes up for grabs too. See you there!

There’s no doubt that once you embark on a journey to a fitter and healthier life the advice just starts rolling your direction from everywhere. It’s fantastic to have support if you’re attempting to overhaul your lifestyle, strength in numbers can be a very real sentiment.

However, in all of the tips and tricks handed out, there can sometimes be a few duds. We rounded up a list of some of the most common fitness myths that you can take with a pinch of salt.

If it doesn’t make you sore it’s not working.

Who made this What are you talking about? Burpees are FUN!! …. right? right !? www.kaylaitsines.com/guides

“Learning how to balance high-intensity workouts with moderate and low-intensity workouts is a crucial skill for creating a balanced, sustainable program,” says Jonathan Angelili, founder of TrainDeep.

Ab workouts will get you that coveted 6-pack

Nope. Trainers and nutrition experts have been telling us for years that you can’t choose where you will eliminate body fat. If you’re aiming for a flatter and firmer midsection, you need to revaluate your diet and incorporate high intensity interval training.

Never eat before a workout

Obviously tucking into a four course meal right before a long distance run isn’t going to end well. But you do need something to help fuel you through your exercise. Experts often suggest something like wholegrain toast with nut butters, or a banana if you fancy.

Cardio is essential no matter what you’re end goal may be

In fact spending hours on the treadmill can be counterproductive. Short bursts of high intensity workouts have been found to be more effective when it comes to fat burning.

It’s healthy because it’s gluten free!

This trend can be misleading, just because something is free of gluten does not automatically mean it is healthier. In fact you could end up creating an intolerance to gluten that you never had to begin with, which is not going to help you get fit, explains fitness blogger and personal trainer Aj Odudu.

No more carbs

No more fun. “Low-carb diets are only effective (and safe) for couch potatoes. Once you throw strength training, cardio or any type of sport into the mix, carbs become essential. Without them your workouts will suffer,” says fitness expert Jason Ferruggia.

‘I just want to be toned, so I can’t lift weights.’

Andrew Read of breakingmuscle.com explains why this phrase needs to disappear:  “What people really mean, in my experience, when they say ‘tone and shape’ is that they want to lose some body fat and make their muscles firmer.”

Stunning supermodel-of-the-moment Gigi Hadid is due to appear in court to testify after it has been revealed that a stalker attempted to break into her Manhattan apartment. The man in question is also accused of attempt burglary.

Indeed, Marcell Porter allegedly attempted to access the model's apartment at least five times.

A spokeswomen for Gigi told Vogue Online that it was reported that Porter arrived at Ms Hadid's residential building on June 25 looking for the model and socialite and told a member of staff: "I'm paramilitary and I saved her life before.

"She wants to marry me and have my kids".

The stalker didn't appear in court this week as the first hearing took place. Doctors have found the man to be mentally unfit, meaning that if he is found guilty it's likely he would be sent to a secure facility rather than prison.

The model is currently working in Australia as part of her new role of brand ambassador for designer giant Guess.

A day after Mr Porter was arrested, Gigi put her New York apartment up for sale. We don't blame her after what a scare that must have been.

Just when you were getting the hang of those pesky new lotto changes, they have announced that next month they are bringing in even more changes.

In addition to adding two extra numbers to the selection grid which means that your odds of winning have been altered. Significantly. Once upon a time you might have thought that it was bound to be your turn to scoop up the jackpot.

Now you might be waiting quite a while; customers have a one in 11 million chance to win.

Not only that, but the price is set to increase as well. Next week the usual minimum play will jump from €3 to €4 for two lines.

This would mean that your usual two line quick-pick (or the ‘lucky dip’ as some are known to call it) will come to €5.

We can see many a shop assistant being inundated with queries over the coming weeks. Remember when they started to introduce the seasonal Winning Streak tickets?

The National Lottery have announced the changes today after researching lotto plays and stated their findings have indicated “it’s time for change”.

You will have some times to prepare yourselves, and make some allowances for you budget if you’re a regular customer. The first Lotto draw with the new prices and numbers will take place on 5 September 2015.
