Some women in the public eye achieve phenomenal success, yet still, end up infinitely tied to a narrative that reduces or demeans their accomplishments.

Actress Jennifer Aniston is one of these women. It doesn't appear to matter that she is one of the most prominent women working in Hollywood, one of considerable influence; the media seem fit to think her worthy of nothing more than tabloid fodder.  This is the woman who was left "broken-hearted" and "childless" after golden boy Brad Pitt "dumped" her for Angelina Jolie (she had the last laugh though) and then again with her ex-husband Justin Theroux. "Poor Jen!" is what the world cried. Alone again. And still with no children.

It never gets mentioned that it was perhaps Jen who chose to end her marriage to Theroux or, her decision to not have children – something that has stigmatised her for her entire career – was due to deeply personal reasons and not because she was selfish and career-obsessed.

In a new interview with InStyle, she addresses this obsession by the media, in her most candid interview yet.

"It's pretty crazy. The misconceptions are "Jen can't keep a man," and "Jen refuses to have a baby because she's selfish and committed to her career." Or that I'm sad and heartbroken. First, with all due respect, I'm not heartbroken," she said.

The fact that women are expected to make marriage and children a priority in life is something that the media – and everyone else – latches onto, particularly if they decide to reject this route in life. Aniston identifies with this stereotyping, and says that the insensitivity in such assumptions makes it even harder for women to tell their own story.

"Those are reckless assumptions. No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me. They don’t know what I’ve been through medically or emotionally. There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods. Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do?"

And by keeping this "Poor Jen" narrative going, all we are suggesting is that she has failed deeply in some way. Remembering that we don't know anything about the ins and outs of the circumstances that lead to her marriage ending or her decision to not have children, no paper seems to ever suggest that this is a woman taking charge of her own destiny. The headlines suggest that she is a very rich and famous spinster, and to reduce her accomplishments to this is deeply insulting.

"Women are picked apart and pitted against one another based on looks and clothing and superficial stuff," she continues mentioning sexism in her industry. "When a couple breaks up in Hollywood, it’s the woman who is scorned. The woman is left sad and alone. She’s the failure. F that. When was the last time you read about a divorced, childless man referred to as a spinster?"

"In my personal experience, I've been treated worse verbally and energetically by some women in this industry," she said of her experiences with harassment in Hollywood.

In an elegant op-ed in the Huffington Post last year, she also addressed this topic. “We don’t need to be married or mothers to be complete. We get to determine our own ‘happily ever after’ for ourselves.”

But even though she keeps saying it, we keep dismissing her. We keep demeaning her worth, her accomplishments because she lacks a ring on her finger or a baby and those (admittedly adorable) Instagram announcements that come with them.

Jen deserves better. She doesn't want or need our sympathy. She doesn't need us to obsess (because it's generally women that do, not men) over whether she'll return to Brad to mend her supposedly broken heart (she won't). What she needs is to be recognised as being a woman whose life accomplishments are worth more than who she decided to marry.

She thrived when her supposed golden boy and Prince Charming disappeared; she never needed rescuing.  And she doesn't need anymore I'm sorrys.

In Friends, Phoebe and Rachel nearly lost their minds when Monica let them decide who would be her maid of honour.

The pair lied, auditioned and did everything in their power to win, but in the end, Rachel proved that she would be the perfect maid of honour for Monica.

And it looks like Jennifer Aniston has followed in her character's footsteps as the actress is going to be former co-star Courtney Cox’s maid of honour.

Courtney is set to marry Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid in the coming months. The actress gushed about Jennifer admitting that she "wouldn't want to walk down the aisle" with anyone else.

It is understood that the pair has grown even closer since their time on the show: “Courtney and Jennifer are as thick as thieves and they have got even closer in recent months,” a source shared.

They added: “Courteney wouldn't want to walk down the aisle without Jennifer by her side. They have a very strong friendship."

Courtney has been a huge support to Jennifer since she split up with Justin Theroux back in February.

Their friendship has only grown stronger since the end of Friends in 2004.

Courtney and Johnny McDaid are set to have two wedding ceremonies, one in Derry and another in California.

It is understood that the ceremony in Northern Ireland will be a “simple and stylish” affair, and the Malibu ceremony will be far more “lavish and posh.”

Courtney and Johnny will reportedly tie the knot this July.

We all know that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are a notoriously private couple and we would like to think that we respect that.

Though, we have to admit that we do lament the lack of cute couple selfies of the pair.

We don't know if we will ever see what Jen wore on her wedding day but at least we got a cute snap of the couple published by Justin on his Instagram.

It looks like the gorgeous couple are hitting the slopes for the festive season as the two are kitted out in ski gear. Justin also encourage his fans to remember to give to charity this festive season.

While Jen does not really engage in social media, Justin jumped on the Instagram bandwagon only three weeks ago and now we finally have a snap of the newlyweds together.

Justin and Jen tied the knot last August in a small and private affair at thier Bel Air home where they could control the event meaning we got NO images of the dress.

And while there is very few other pics on the account, there is a sexy snap of a lady from the back who looks suspiciously like Jen.

We can only speculate that this is perhaps a throwback picture to the red Valentino gown that Jen wore to the Oscars in 2013.

Either way, we hope we get a lot more snaps of our favourite Hollywood couple if not a sneak peek of their wedding day.

We've all fallen victim to the odd beauty blunder (hello old school photos).

But if it makes you feel any better – so have some of our biggest celebrities.

Major female stars like Jennifer Aniston, Lauren Conrad and Olivia Wilde spoke to InStyle magazine and shared their worst beauty fails of all time.

Olivia Wilde

“When I was 5, after watching my dad shave, I took his razor and shaved my face—including my eyebrows. You look like an alien without eyebrows,” she told the magazine. “Then, in my mid-teens, I plucked them to create that sexy Kate Moss arch. I regret it because I damaged my follicles, and now it's hard for me to grow thick, bushy brows.”

Jennifer Aniston

"I can't even call it a risk, it was just bad judgement! We used to shave our heads just right above the ear, and now I'm like, why did I do that?"

Margot Robbie

"I got a short crop and everyone at school actually thought I was a boy," she told the magazine. "That was traumatic. I never forgave my mum for that. I am scarred by those memories!"

Lauren Conrad

“I thought you were supposed to match your eyeshadow to your clothes, and I was just sort of playing around and figured it out along the way.”

Vanessa Hudgens

"I went through a stage where I had burgundy hair, which was frightening, and I had light brown hair with light blond highlights. It looked so bad! My friend said it looked like I'd dipped my hair in ashes."

We were really hoping that the entire cast of Friends still hung out together in coffee shops and each other's apartments, but the fact that some of the lead cast members were not invited to Jennifer Aniston's wedding shows otherwise.

Jennifer got married to Justin Theroux at her home last Wednesday in front of 70 guests, but Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer were MIA.

Matthew and Matt confirmed on Monday that they were not invited to their co-star's wedding and it seems they didn't even know it was happening.

Matthew, who played Chandler for ten years, told Entertainment Tonight "I was surprised, I didn't know about it." But despite not receiving an invite he went on to say that he was "very happy for them."

As for Matt LeBlanc, he also expressed his well-wishes for his former co-star saying "I wasn't there, so I wish her the best."

However it seems the girls from the television show were reunited as Matt explained that "The girls were there. You've got to have the girls there."

Despite the invite snub, there are no hard feelings between former colleagues, as the guys said the wedding reception "was small", hence why Joey, Chandler and Ross were not there to complete the Central Perk gang.

"Everybody is okay," said Matt, giving a shout out to his pals Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow.

Although the actors were not invited, the wedding was not short of several A-list celebrities. Orlando Bloom, Chelsea Handler, Tobey Maguire and Howard Stern were all in attendance, with Jimmy Kimmel officiating the ceremony.

Last Monday, US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel hosted a private stag do for the then Mr Jen Aniston-to-be, Justin Theroux.

And to keep things super private, 47-year-old Jimmy held the party in his own West Hollywood home, with Justin and the rest of his stag squad joining marking the occassion in the spectacular barn-themed bar of Jimmy's house.

However, while Mr Kimmel hosted the stag do, he did not fill in as Justin's best man: that honour instead went to tattoo artist Scott Campbell.

Unsurprisingly, BFF Courteney Cox was Jennifer's maid of honour.

The now married couple went to great lengths to keep their wedding ceremony a private affair. They even scrapped their original plans of getting married abroad for added security.

A source told New York Post's Page Six column: "Jennifer and Justin have been planning an August wedding, but it was very, very top secret. They had talked about getting married abroad, but decided on their home for privacy while allowing their closest friends to be there".

As they got married in their Bel Air home they were surrounded by famous guests such as Emily Blunt, Chelsea Handler and Ellen DeGeneres.

The couple have now travelled to the Pacific island nation of Bora Bora for their honeymoon.

We wish all the best for the newlyweds!

Following weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced yesterday that they were splitting up after ten years of marriage.

Considered to be one of Hollywood’s strongest couples, Ben and Jen are only the latest in a long list of celebrity relationships that have caused us some serious devastation.

We still sometimes can’t believe Brad and Jen just didn’t make it. What even is love?

Every time a celebrity couple goes through a break up, we all cry with them. However, clearly some are just more devastating than others.

In particular, these break ups are still a little hard for us to talk about. No, time hasn’t healed all wounds unfortunately…

Britney and Justin

The double denim duo broke our hearts in the 00s. He was her first kiss, ever.

Brad and Jen

Everything is fine, until that Friends episode comes on and we have emotional flashbacks to the devastation that occurred ten years ago.

Orlando and Miranda

Maybe all hope is not lost, seeing as Orlando has said to the press “we’re not friends. We’re family.” We’re not crying either.

Reese and Ryan

They met at her 21st birthday party (nwwaaa!) in 1997, got married and had two children before splitting up in 2006. We’re still haven’t found two blondes pretty enough to replace them in our hearts.

Ashton and Demi

It doesn’t matter that he and Mila just had a baby, we’re still not convinced he and Demi really called it quits. Why would they do that to us? Why?

Rachel and Ryan

Everything about The Notebook makes us cry, then we pulled ourselves together knowing they were happy in real life. Remember the MTV Movie Awards? Yeah, us too. Then, in 2008 they broke our hearts and we’re still not over it to be honest.

Selena and Justin

Shattering our hearts not just once, but twice. The Baby singer just can’t seem to get over her either with rumours circulating his new single, Where Are U Now, is full of messages about his former love. It’s like standing outside someone’s window with a boom box, if you’re a 21-year old millionaire.
