You can tuck into starchy foods such as cereal, bread and chips – and counteract some of the negative effects by drinking green tea at the same time.

That’s because an extract from the tea has now been found to reduce the amount of carbs that you absorb during digestion.

Hurrah! Starch is the most common carbohydrate we consume, and the likes of potatoes, rice, bread and pasta all contain large amounts.

Led by Jaroslaw Walkowiak of Poznan University in Poland, the researchers found the dose of green tea extract decreased starch digestion and absorption compared to a placebo group.

“This plant extract is widely available, inexpensive, and well tolerated, so it has potential utility for weight control and the treatment of diabetes,” researchers said afterwards.

They added that it was important to have several cups a day in order for the process to prove effective.

And plenty of A-listers are already in on the act too: Lady Gaga is said to be drinking up in the run-up to her forthcoming wedding, while Kendall Jenner said last year she was downing "like 12 cups a day".

Several years ago, Victoria Beckham was among the first wave of celebs who was reportedly staying slim by regularly consuming green tea.

Mark Zuckerberg and Dr Priscilla Chan are expecting their first child together, he announced today – on Facebook, of course.

The baby, a girl, will arrive later this year. 

In a picture which accompanied the online post, Mark and a radiant Priscilla can be seen standing alongside their beloved pup, a Hungarian sheepdog named Beast.

Mr Zuckerberg, one of the world's richest men with a net worth of €42.5bn, also opened up about Priscilla's three heartbreaking miscarriages. 

"We've been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way," he admitted,

In a candid confession, the 31-year-old continued: "You feel so hopeful when you learn you're going to have a child. You start imagining who they'll become and dreaming of hopes for their future.

"You start making plans, and then they're gone. It's a lonely experience.

"Most people don't discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you – as if you're defective or did something to cause this. So you struggle on your own."

However, Mark added that when he began to open up about their experiences to friends and family, he realised they were far from alone. And thankfully, he also learned that "nearly all" went on to have "healthy children after all".

Dr Chan, 30, is a qualified doctor who is currently training to become a paediatrician. She is fluent in three languages – English, Spanish, and Cantonese.

"Our good news is that our pregnancy is now far enough along that the risk of loss is very low and we are very hopeful," the Facebook CEO also said. 

"Cilla and our child are both healthy, I'm extremely excited to meet her and our dog Beast has no idea what's coming.

"In our ultrasound, she even gave me a thumbs up 'like' with her hand, so I'm already convinced she takes after me."

He concluded with: "We're looking forward to welcoming her into the world and sharing more soon when she's ready to come out and meet everyone!"

The couple met as Harvard classmates – queuing for the bathroom at a fraternity party – and dated for nearly a decade before their May 2012 wedding.

She’s the Oscar-winner who absolutely refuses to diet for Hollywood.

But, as Jennifer Lawrence proved this week, her bikini bod is probably about as close to perfection as we can imagine.

Hanging out with new BFF Amy Schumer, the pair are currently enjoying a girlie holiday away.

And in a telling Instagram snap posted yesterday to 35-year-old Amy’s account, Ms Lawrence, 24, shows once again that she is in the best shape of her life.

Creating a human pyramid with a group of ten women on board a boat, Jen can be seen at the top of the pile.

Donning a chic €275 Mara Hoffman bikini, the actress has her arms in the air – displaying off her toned tum to perfection.

Earlier on the same day, and using the hashtag #manic, Amy had posted a photo of J-Law driving a jet ski – while Ms Schumer herself rides seemingly terrified on the back.

Meanwhile, a third, earlier snap shows the same group of vacationers lounging on lie-lows in the sea.

Naturally, it didn’t take long for fans to suggest a creative Lawrence-Schumer collaboration – but as yet, there is no confirmation that the pair have anything in the pipeline.

Still, we're totally loving this celebrity friendship and reckon their profile will rival Tay-Tay Swift's squad and the Jenner-Hadid crew before long.

And despite boasting the type of figure that most women would kill for, Jennifer is a vocal opponent of the pressures and expectation young females face.

Indeed, in November 2013 in the aftermath of her Oscar success for Silver Linings Playbook (she also has two other Academy Award nominations), Jen explained: "There are shows like The Fashion Police that are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on all the wrong values and that it's OK to point at people and call them ugly or fat."

She added: "We have to stop treating each other like that and stop calling each other fat."

In landmark sentencing for this country, three former Anglo bankers have been sent to prison.

The move comes seven years after the financial crash that crippled the Irish economy – and five years after the Troika bailout that implemented a wealth of austerity measures. 

Tiarnan O'Mahoney, Anglo's former chief operating officer; Bernard Daly, Anglo's former company secretary, and Aoife Maguire, a former assistant manager at the bank were given custodial sentences ranging from 18 months to three years.

And the judge refused to suspend any part of their jail stints – meaning they will serve the entirety of their prison terms. 

Yesterday, all three had been found guilty by a jury of conspiring to hide accounts from Revenue Commissioners, and of attempting to conceal accounts relating to chairman Sean FitzPatrick’s brother-in-law.

They spent the night in jail waiting for today's judgement. 

During a trial which lasted two months at the Circuit Criminal Court, the defendants’ lawyers had argued that non of the former employees gained personally by their actions. 

They also said that their clients were of good standing, and had never been in trouble with the law before.

Nevertheless, O'Mahoney, 56, and Daly, 67, were convicted of knowingly giving false information to the Revenue. And O'Mahoney and Maguire, 62, were found guilty of conspiring to hide a total of six accounts linked to Mr FitzPatrick.

In response, Judge Pat McCartan sentenced O'Mahoney to three years in prison; Daly to two years, and Maguire to 18 months.

Twitter was quick to respond to the news – with many observers applauding the decision.

Judge McCartan told the court that it was clear the accused engaged in a deliberate and ongoing fraud to stop the accounts of Mr FitzPatrick from being disclosed to Revenue officials. 

He added that Anglo was a "very sick bank" which "took a very, very dishonest approach to Revenue".

The three appeared emotional throughout sentencing – and as they were led away from the court by prison guards.

Anglo Irish Bank was founded in Dublin in the Sixties and was nationalised in 2009, eventually merging with Irish Nationwide Building Society to form the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation. 

In the 15 months to December '09, Anglo lost €12.7bn. In total, Irish taxpayers' money amounting to €25bn was injected into the organisation.

Irish folk are famed for a great many great things – although whether dancing is one of them is somewhat questionable.

A wedding, on a night out, or attending a festival; the moves on offer on homesoil are less Rio Carnival, and more Roscrea carousal.

Not that we mind – because unchoreographed craic is part of what makes the country great.

However, just every so often, it’s nice to turn our hands to something a little different – namely a spot of Brazilian-inspired samba.

Last month, talented Irish-Brazilian bossa band Nova Collective hit Dun Laoghaire pier to record a video for their new single, Samba De Amor. And with the help of director Tom Speers they managed to rope in some unsuspecting locals too.

"Our concept with this one was very simple: can Irish people dance like a Brazilian?" the band said afterwards. 

Well, suffice to say we're totally in love with the results.

For those not yet in the know, Nova Collective is led by outstanding pianist Louis Ryan, and boasts a lineup of exceptional jazz, traditional Irish, classical and Latin musicians. 

Their live shows often involve more than music (spectators are always in for a treat) and they're poised to play the Sugar Club on Sunday, August 16.

We honestly don’t know a single person who has ever said ‘I like being stuck in traffic’. Traffic jams are one of the most frustrating moments in the day-to-day lives of anyone with a driving licence.

We thought trying to make our way home on a bank holiday Friday evening was a struggle, but we could hardly imagine the stress of navigating rush hour in Los Angeles. The California city is notorious for its epic traffic delays. And the heat, we’re getting fidgety just thinking about it.

However, one talented musician is trying to lighten the mood for anyone feeling a little stressed out.

YouTube star Alex Grosse was stuck in traffic when he came across the Pied Piper of L.A. The local legend was also stopped in traffic.

Instead of letting his frustrations get the better of him however, he decided it was the perfect opportunity to start something of a session.

The Piped Piper was certainly the highlight of Alex’s day, and we have to admit we’re considering keeping a tin whistle in the car to be prepared for our next big delay.

For any die-hard Game of Thrones fans who were dreading the day the HBO show announced news of the seventh and final season, there was so good news.

Producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been suggesting since the series second year that they would try and get seven years out of the hugely successful fantasy series.

This week Entertainment Weekly are reporting that programming president for HBO Micheal Lombardo might be thinking differently than the two showrunners.

“Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the conversation”, he said at the Television Critics Association’s press tour this week. So, that basically means we could be watching our favourite Mother of Dragons forever, right?

“The question is: How much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven.” He went to say that David and Dan are “feeling like there’s two more years after six.”

Game of Thrones fans all around the world are certainly rejoicing. But what about any of those with a soft spot for Jon Snow?

“Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Um, yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, Jon Snow is indeed dead," he said.

It looks like any hope those with a thing for curly haired Northmen was dashed then and there. However, Kit Harrington has been spotted out and about in Belfast with the rest of the cast recently. It is Game of Thrones after all, pretty much anything can happen in Westeros it seems.

Other news from press tour related to questions surrounding a possible prequel to the series.

Michael said that as of yet there had been “no discussions” about such an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s work but he is open to doing anything David and Dan want to do.

She captured everyone's attention when, at the age of 16, she married 51-year-old Hollywood actor Doug Hutchison in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas.

Now aged 20 – and still with Doug despite several temporary splits along the way – Courtney Stodden has overhauled her appearance.

Once an aspiring pop-star, she has more recently stated that she believes acting is where her talents lie – and certainly her Instagram account proves she is a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe's style and appearance. 

However, while Marilyn was curvy, Courtney's breasts are entirely OTT. In fact, they appeared bigger than ever in one post made – and then swiftly deleted – earlier this week. 

Wearing a light chiffon shirt and pouting for the camera while holding a pink smoothie, Ms Stodden's chest seems disproportionately large; something which wasn't lost on commentators who spotted the snap before it was removed. 

Shortly after her marriage, the reality TV contestant denied that she'd had plastic surgery – insisting that she was entirely natural. However, two years ago at the age of 18 she decided on a breast augmentation to further boost her bust.

Eventually opting for a DD cup – a significant increase given her petite height (she's 5ft 4in) and slight frame – her husband fully supported her decision.

However, if her recent Instagram posts are anything to go by and she has indeed gone under the knife again, this time seemingly choosing an even larger cup size.

TMZ reported earlier this year that the young woman was shopping a sex tape to the highest bidder.

Described as a "solo effort porn video," in it Ms Stodden can be seen in a bubble bath splashing in water.

Mr Hutchinson does not appear in the footage, which was eventually released on several adult entertainment sites.

She and her husband split after just two years of marriage, with Courtney reporting that she wanted to "experience other men," but they reconciled last year and have said that they plan to renew their vows shortly.

Earlier this month tensions between Kerry Katona and her husband George Kay seemed to have reach a breaking point as it was reported she had ordered him to leave their home.

However, just this week it seemed that Karry, 34, had changed her mind about the pair’s situation. George was seen arriving at their home with what the Daily Mail says was “a tonne of luggage”.

The duo rent a home for €5,000 a month which Kerry reportedly kicked her third husband out of when he was failing to support the family.

On Friday Kerry was seen out and about wearing her wedding ring and just two weeks ago the Sunday Mirror reported that Kerry was hoping to clear the air with George as she found life too hard without him.

The couple married in 2014, this being Kerry’s third marriage it appeared that was eager for her and George to give their relationship another try.

At the time the paper reported an insider had said: “She isn't in a great place. They had a terrible in the last few months and did nothing but row.”

 

Kerry was also concerned about her children seeing the pair fighting. She apparently then felt she had no choice but to get George out of the house. The source added “she’s at breaking point.”

On Friday Kerry was at the opening of Virtuoso restaurant and looked anything but a heart broken woman as she appeared to be all smiles for photographers.

The former I’m a Celebrity contestant has already been married twice and is mom to five kids. Molly, 13 and Lilly-Sue, 12, who were born when she was married to Brian McFadden, she and second husband Mark Croft also had two children Heidi,8, and Max who is 7.

 Her youngest child Dylan-Jorge with husband George arrived shortly before their wedding last year.

We know that setting your alarm that extra 10 or 15 minutes early can be kind pretty painful. Nobody wants to get up any earlier than is absolutely necessary, do they?

However, as it happens, you might be seriously missing out if you’re inclined to keep pressing that snooze button until the last possible second.

Herbal Essences conducted a survey on women across the U.S and found that those who woke up earlier in the morning to hop in the shower said it changed their day in a positive way.

Also, and here’s what really made us think twice about this early bird business: people who wake up earlier and shower are more confident.

Apparently something as simple as a morning shower can help you feel more attractive and relaxed. So, now we know what Gigi Hadid and the likes are up to at the crack of dawn.

Researchers in Scandinavia have also discovered that cold showers in the morning can help you shed a few extra pounds if that’s what you’re after too. Elite Daily reports that it was discovered “that bodies exposed to cold temperatures increase the metabolic rate of brown fat fifteen-fold, which can help you lose 9 lbs a year if sustained.”

Cold showers are also better for you than that morning coffee too. The freezing cold ones, you know the ones that make you wonder if your skin is still attached, are a psychostimulant. Which means they have the same effect as caffeine.

There is also research that shows how it is possible to actually feel happier simply from having morning showers without all that steam. 

The Commonwealth University School of Medicine found that short cold showers can stimulate the brain’s blue spot which is the primary source of noradrenaline — this can help chemically mitigate depression.

So, we might be giving the snooze button a skip in the future.

As granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, Zara Phillips is used to a life in the spotlight.

And while she certainly seems to lead a relatively normal existence with her former rugby player husband, Mike Tindall, and their toddler daughter, Mia Grace – earlier this year she experienced some of the downsides of fame.

In January on a Sydney beach dressed down in shorts and a t-shirt, online commentators called her 'chunky'.

Meanwhile, just last month, the 34-year-old was at the receiving end of numerous pregnancy rumours. Wearing an ill-fitting yellow shift dress to Royal Ascot, the resulting photographs seems to show the hints of a baby bump. 

Such was the fervour, in fact, that her publicist was forced to issue a statement saying that Zara was certainly not expecting.

It didn't help, of course, that at the time a streamlined Duchess Kate was looking incredibly slim mere weeks after giving birth to her second child, Princess Charlotte.

Indeed, public comparisons between the two women was almost inevitable. 

But while Ms Phillips, an Olympic silver medallist, has never seemed like the type to get upset over the odd bit of bad lighting and or bad angles, turning up at the K Club in Kildare yesterday, she nevertheless looked incredibly fit and slim.

Wearing a tiny black playsuit and black strappy sandals, the mother-of-one looked stunning posing alongside Mike.

The high-profile duo jetted into Ireland to attend the swish Marks & Spencer Ireland Marie Keating Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic. 

Now in its 16th year, the event is definitely one of the highlights of the golfing calendar – and certainly always attracts an A-list crowd. 

Raising much-needed funds for the cancer foundation, the likes of actors Dougray Scott and Stephen Graham, rugby legend Shane Byrne, and former footballers Ian Wright and Ronnie Whelan were all spotted on the famed Kildare course. 

Also in attendance was Ronan Keating and his fiancee Storm Uechtritz, Keith Duffy, who brought along his handsome son Jay, stylist Suzanne Goggins, and Chanel marketing manager Ciara Hughes Dunleavy.

Guests enjoyed a drinks reception followed by a four-course meal in The Arnold Palmer Room with wine and champagne from M&S. 

Entertainment was provided by comedian Stan Boardman and singer Cole Page. 

Brothers Ronan and Gary Keating also hosted an auction with items such as golf merchandise signed by Rory McIlroy going under the hammer to raise funds for the worthy cause.

It seems like only days ago that reports were coming in that Kate Moss and her rocker husband of four years Jamie Hince were headed for divorce.

Rumours started to circulate that the pair were no longer living in wedded bliss when they hadn’t been seen together anywhere since April.

It doesn’t appear to have taken very long for Jamie to get over his relationship with Kate. The Sun reports that Jamie was spotted looking very cosy with Vistoria’s Secret model Jessica Stam.

The 46-year old guitarist with The Kills and the 29-year old model looked to getting very close after the band played a gig in Hollywood. The duo were spotted outside the club hugging and Jessica was definitely not shy about getting up close and personal with the rocker.

A source told the paper: ''Jamie was carefree and in great form. Jessica made straight for him and they appeared to be very close and friendly.” Jessica is a big fan of the band according to her Instagram account couldn't wait to see them play live.

Apparently Jessica, who is 12 years Kate’s junior, was “very flirty” and “cuddly” with Jamie. The paper also says that: “One clubber said party-loving Jessica reminded them of Kate — except for the age difference.” Outside the club the pair were seen chatting and smoking together.

The pair did leave the party together but it doesn’t look like there is much hope for Jamie and Kate reuniting anytime soon.  The source has claimed that:

''She made sure they got close before she went home at the end of the night. Kate will be devastated to see Jamie moving on with a younger version of herself.''

The pair do look quite similar and there is speculation that the marriage between Kate and Jamie had come under strain due to his close relationships with other women.

A friend of Jamie told the paper “she’s always been jealous about his female friends and he was sick of it.”

A source close to Jessica has denied the pair are a couple but she is “a big fan of The Kills and was enjoying hanging out with Jamie.”
